[Q] New GS3 - not getting JB update? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Had my GS3 for a few months and it's been great! So I got my GF hooked up with a Sprint GS3 as well (she loves her gadgets, too):good: but it's still on ICS and not getting the JB update from Sprint. What's the issue? Tried the system update/ reboot / etc. Hers is not rooted. How do I get it to prompt her for that update?
Thanks!

Very easy process, go to system settings, click on applications Manager. You will see tabs at the top (download, running, all). Go to the all tab and scroll down to Google service frame work, click on it and on the next screen click on clear data. Go back to system update, this will show you available updates. If you don't see it in first try, do this for few more time and you will get the JB update.

This man speaks the truth. I just did this yesterday and it started the update process on the third try. You may have to try more times than that, though.

Thanks!! I'll have her try this when on wifi.
:good::good::good:

I did this over the 3g and it works fine.

One thing to note.. You must also press force stop after you hit clear data. Wasn't working for me until I pressed force stop

This didn't work for me. I tried at least 20 times. Looks like I stay on ICS.

I have been biting my nails waiting for this update since I got the message about it. Finally got around to check online........
BAMB-updating.
Now for some free tethering to work???? Yeah I want everything.....Thanks for the tip

Why wouldn't this work for me? Is it because I'm rooted?

Don't accept an OTA if you're rooted. If you're rooted just flash a JB ROM instead. If you accept an OTA with a rooted device you run the chance of losing root.

Provided you have a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP) you can accept the OTA update and it will fail because you're not on the stock recovery. Doing this will also help to avoid the repeated OTA notification. :good::good::good:

[Q] Juggernaut v3.7 & T-Mobile Updates

I just installed the juggernaut rom by Team Kang on my T989 yesterday. I woke up this morning and found a prompt on my phone for a new update from t-mobile.
I thought I would take a look at it and went with the whole update and all it did was taking me to the recovery screen.
I rebooted and the update notice is still there. What's this about?
You should pull the file and give us the link. That would be helpful!

The thing is, I restored my phone to stock and didn't get the prompt, but get it if i go back to juggernaut

The strange thing is everyone on that ROM seem to be getting the notification. I'm stock and have tried both Kies and manually checking like a madman with no notification whatsoever.
I still have the notification and all it does is send me to the recovery screen.
this worked for me
unroot phone, use kies to update firmware to 2.3.6
There is no 2.3.7 update it was 2.3.6 must be a rom error
I install the Juggernaut 3.7 on my phone on Dec 24 and after reboot I was keep getting same message again and again for the T mobile update what I did is went to the system app and removed the asynchrony.apk and I stop getting that updates message. If I have helped you? Please don't forget to pressThank you button

You will need root explorer or ES file manger go to system and in system click on app and in asp you will that file in the bottom and remove and reboot and enjoy.
I tried es explorer and could not find the file. I'm beginning to think i'm going to unroot and then do the process all over again

Ok, this stupid update is driving me nuts!

Every 5 minutes I get prompted to install the update. I have done everything humanly possible to get rid of it (to my knowledge and of asking around). Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the update? I don't even know why there is an update when I have a custom ROM.
Rooted Phone w/Blazer ROM 1.6
I even unrooted my phone, went back installed the update, and re-rooted my phone and its still there!
I clear dalvick cache and it buys me another day or 2 before I start getting prompted again to install it. How can I get rid of it, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
And yes, i've seen other posts and did the radio change and other installs as well that were "supposed" to fix it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805618
Try the suggestion there. Worked for me.
Of course, since you're on a custom ROM though, you should make the edits yourself.
I made the change, rebooted into recovery and wiped cache partition, and no update notification since.
On my epic when I had it rooted and was getting bugged by an update (not sure if this will work on this phone) I would let install and let it fail (it was rooted) pull the battery and restart the phone and it would go into clock work and I would restart from there and it wouldn't bug me again till my next reboot.

This works for me, I kept disabling things till I found it and narrowed it down:
1. Install "system tuner" by 3c
2. Go to "Startups"
3. Scroll down to "google services framework" and tap it
4. UNCHECK anything to do with "SystemUpdateService"
update.systemupdateservice$secretcodereceiver
update.systemupdateservice$receiver
update.systemupdateservice

Well there are great apps out there, I use Voodoo OTA. And it creates a backup of your root, then you have the option to do a temp unroot so when you are doing the update OTA (only works for OTA updates), the update won't detect that your device is rooted and after upgrade complete, open up Voodoo OTA, click Restore Root and voilĂ !
This should work all of the time, but I haven't tested it in a real scenario yet.
Let me know what happens!

Hi!
I was talking about official updates only with the OTA(over-the-air/wirelessly). So if you're in USA/CAN you'll have to wait for the JB update to come over here first then get pushed out to devices, then before update sue the app.
Michael
This is awesome news. Quick question though, since I'm new to the SGSIII. If I "disabled" some apps under the application manager, can I still install the OTA when it comes around? I'm not rooted or anything, I just got the phone a couple days ago and don't feel like voiding my warranty quite yet

You dont need to disable anything. You are on stock - so wait until the OTA is released. It will inform you, and just let it download and install.

I think he was asking if he has some apps disabled, vs rooting to remove them, if it'll be an issue to install OTA. I have all the Rogers apps disabled, since I'm not using the Rogers network. I don't see any issue with the OTA working, since no system files were changed, you're just telling them to not run. Worst case, just re-enable them when you know the OTA is out, do the update and disable the apps again. That's my plan!
Just tried to update with the "check for updates" : option under settings and it didn't work. My phone is rooted, and so when it rebooted (it props for reboot and install) it went into CW and aborted install. Is there a way around this?

There are currently no methods to update using TWRP or stock recovery with root. I switched back to stock recovery from TWRP using the GN2 Toolkit, and it didn't work. I've also seen people having trouble updating even after unrooting, uninstalling Busybox, and going back to stock recovery, so we're just going to have to wait.
Decent video. For the record. You can do this without a PC (the video says you cannot). Just download the file to your phone's SD card from his link.

Can you post a screen shot of your "about phone"?
Be warned ....
Updates being pushed from ATT this time around are likely the pre-cursors to 4.3 which "will" contain knox and a locked bootloader...
If you take the 4.3 update once available ...you will lose the ability to root and more until the devs get it worked out...
That batch is likely the application updates to the rom and modem ???
But the next one is gonna lock you out...g

If it is 165 mb then it is the update from September. It has never been installed because you have a non-stock recovery. The only updates in the september updates were to apps and back end. There is no user difference due to the updated. It is not worth changing your recovery in my opinion.

UCAMH3 update is safe ...(our current update )
Anything beyond that will include knox security ...and a locked bootloader ...guaranteed.....
And you will be stuck until the devs can figure out an unlock and the removal of knox...g

Has the update been rolled out yet, or are we still stuck with the beta leak and one mod rom of it?

Isn't the beta leak by DG the finished product by AT&T (yet to be officially released)? I don't see any bugs or changes to be made to this.
Not sure ...
I'm leaning toward no...
But I guess we won't really know until it drops ...
If ever ....g

Update if you want then use 1 click to revert if its not to your liking. Skynotes update is about as official as it gets and still keep all root options

Yea SkyNote R9 N3 is awesome as ever!!! Really nice and good, I was getting fed up with R8.2 and it's constant FC's and Lags and was debating on going back to 1click, then this morning saw R9 N3 was and decided to give it a try and couldn't be more pleased...
Yes very awesome rom ive been using it for months now and with the new update its super bad in a good way lol. Only other roms I even like is Jedi x and beanstalk but skynote is my fav hands down
