[QUEST] 4G LTE working T-Mobile radio/modem on AT&T Note 2 or Viceversa - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Is there currently a working T-Mobile modem that gets 3G on T-Mobile for the AT&T note 2? Instead of the typical Edge. (same as on Note 1) I have my AT&T Note 1 with 3G on T-Mobile... Any releases yet for the Note 2? I already ordered the dual sim card adapter for the Note 2...

I can't seem to get a straight answer on this either. I have been searching for 2 days now and I haven't been able to find any solutions. I have jediX on my unlocked AT&T phone with a T-Mobile sim and all I get is Edge. ive tried to put on the T-Mobile Radio and it just boot loops me.
I may have to try and find someone that wants to trade phones with me at this point.

I believe that most of the T889 roms have a radio built in.. Have you tried that?

yes i have, when i flash other roms that say the radio is included, it still shows the AT&T radio under settings>device info.
I have Jedi -X4 for Build number but,
i317UCALJ2 listed as the Baseband Version.
Model number shows SGH-T889.
if i try to flash a the T-mobile Radio, it just boot loops.

I have only just started looking into this myself and was expecting a working T-mobile radio that can be used on AT&T (or Rogers) to be floating around, considering they are all using hardware revision JRO03C.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am dealing with the same issue the other way (tmobile on att network, no lte), so if you ever look to trade, let me know.

Please clarify: you have a T889 (TMo N2) device using an AT&T SIM, in an area confirmed to have AT&T LTE service, and you're getting no LTE? Have you tried flashing the modem package off an i317 (AT&T N2) onto your device to see if LTE gets activated that way?

Did you tried *#2263# and then u can choose lte 17 for att.good look ..

I didn't try those two, but I will right now. Tried another method using a long input string, but it didn't work.

Yep the *#*#4636#*#*doesnt work on theese roms, however the*#2263# works on the x5 rom but not on the 4.1.2 lk7 roms.on theese roms u can choose lte and hspa from mobile settings but there is not lte only option.do u have a succes with the code ,by the way you can try hspa plus on 1900 mhz on tmobile card with that code too.i tryed it and I can confirm it is 21mbits for now.

TMobile Modem on Galaxy Note 2 ATT i317
I am in the same situation as the OP. Looking to flash a T889 modem onto an ATT Galaxy Note 2 (i317) similar to the solution for Galaxy Note 1 ATT (i717) users using Tmobile network (by flashing a modified Amaze? modem).
Anyone successful in getting 3g TMobile speeds with their Galaxy Note I317?

LTE should work if you do that, but make sure your IMEI is still OK, and have a backup phone if you try flashing back the T889 modem. My phone is stuck in a bootloop since trying to go T889V -> I317M -> T889V.

I have an AT&T note 2 unlocked working a T-Mobile sim and 4G has been working from the start!

Did you double check that you're in a strictly AWS area, spectrum-wise?
Oh, and quick update: I was able to get the phone to boot with the I317M modem, switch it to diagnostic mode and fix the EFS NV entries. LTE works, not sure about AWS HSPA and not in a position to test.

Hello TEKHD,
I have a T889V, but my carrier up here is Virgin Mobile Canada, whose network is technically closer to AT&T's band-wise. DC-HSPA 42 on 850 and 1900 MHz with LTE on Band 4 (AWS).
Reason I got a T889V is because I also keep a T-Mobile SIM for stateside trips, it was a bit cheaper and it leaves the door open to switching to Videotron in addition to the "Big Three".
I first unlocked the phone using the ServiceMode menu method.
I backed up /efs, and this is where I made my first mistake. I know I've been ranting about this for a few days now, you need a proper Qualcomm NV backup.
I usually stick to the Canadian ROMs as they tend to remain closer to their international brethren than the US ones, and also because they don't require tethering fixes. In this case, the T889V ROM also allows switching network modes between GSM, WCDMA and GSM/WCDMA/LTE easily.
I did modify the CSC files to remove the <CscFeature_Setting_DisableNetworkMode>lte</CscFeature_Setting_DisableNetworkMode> line in /system/csc/others.xml and even went so far as making a customized VMC CSC and reapplied that to get all the other little carrier tweaks like FastDormancy. The line is cosmetic only, as I've had it show 4G in the network icon and still get LTE, otherwise it shows 3G, H, H+ and LTE on the T889V. The other place I've seen it have an effect is in the network settings where it'll show GSM/WCDMA/LTE instead of GSM/WCDMA.
I've used Odin before, I have a download jig (two paralleled leftover 620kOhm resistors and a Sparkfun breakout board) and I've tarred my own images before with Cygwin.
To get the necessary files, I downloaded the stock T889V, I317M (Canadian LTE Note II variant, the one that'd actually be sold by VMC if they ever do.) and T889 ROMs from Sammobile.
My initial attempt to flash the I317M modem through Odin (as a standalone image) gave a fail before the phone began the actual writing process, i. e. it transferred the radio image without any issues. Later experiments show that only the T889V modem tar flashes with Odin, the T889 one doesn't either. Same goes for the whole, original Sammobile images, the modem partitions fail if you're cross-flashing.
I then used CWM with an update zip sourced here on XDA that included a "flash_image" binary to flash the 317M LJ2 modem. I used it to prep T889 and 889V zips as well. Rebooted the phone, it connected and gave me LTE, network icon and all. The before and after speedtests went from 3.5 to 35 Mbps. I did check and my IMEI showed 0 instead of, well, my IMEI.
No big deal, or so I thought, I'll just restore /efs in CWM, reflash the T889V modem and carry on. NOT.
The phone immediately started bootlooping, and the only way I initially got it to stop was to flash an N7100 boot.img. The S-Pen didn't work, nor did any networking apart from wifi. Getting QPST to talk to the phone was a bust as well; the hen and the egg.
I tried different combinations and couldn't fix the problem. (My flash counter sits well over 20 now.)
I got another poster (deeznutz1977) to send me his T889 NV backup (sans IMEI) the other day. I later had the idea of reflashing the I317M modem again, which did not boot loop after all (there may have been a matter of wiping /cache and Dalvik cache at the right time).
This time dialcode *#7284#, selecting "Qualcomm USB Settings" then selecting "RNDIS + DM + MODEM" worked. I could get the programs talking with the phone. I inserted my IMEI in deeznutz1977's backup, wrote that to the phone and rebooted.
The phone doesn't bootloop anymore, my IMEI is back, as is service on my current carrier. Plus, this configuration still works with AWS HSPA. The one catch is that bootloops resume if I reflash the T889V modem through either CWM or Odin.
I made a few more speed tests before writing this and managed to get an average 45 Mbps down and 12 up along with a 40 ms ping.
Hope that answered a few of your questions.
Regards,
Darkshado

Wow... thank you for taking your time and explaining everything... really, thank you... so you managed to completely transform your T889V into a I317M... that's why it now bootloops if flashing the original T889V... as it would if you really had an I317M... is that right?
you don't have access to a sim with the t-mobile band in order to test for just a minute?
So... here is my story... maybe I can help here with the transformation of T889 to I317 and viceversa... (or maybe an hybrid modem like the one for the Note 1)
-> I have both the AT&T I317 and the T-Mobile T889...
-> I also have both with dual sim card adapters...
-> I also have 1 Unlimited everything T-Mobile sim card & 2 AT&T unlimited everything sim cards...
I want to be able to keep the T889 with 1 sim -> working LTE on AT&T and the 2nd sim -> ready for future T-Mobile LTE...both sims in the dual sim card adapter on the same phone of course (I also want to sell the I317) just keep one universal LTE Note 2
What can I do here? Willing to sacrifice whatever I need to... in order to accomplish my objective... This will help everyone here on both carriers...
As for now... I have noted that while navigating on both phones thru the service menu... the I317 says ENS: ENABLED and the T889 says ENS: DISABLED ... searched on google... no answer.... ENS stands for? Emergency Notification System? lol
Is there anything I can do here since I own both phones... that can sort things out in order to unlock the LTE feature on the Tmobile variant? or is that something we all just have to wait for the carrier to do via OTA? Is there any modded modem that can solve this? Your I317M modem... can it do something here for the T889?
On the pictures the one on the left is the I317 and on the right the T889... both with AT&T sims at the moment of the picture. If I go outside, the AT&T Note 2 will get 4G icon (LTE) and the T-Mobile Note 2 will stay in HSPA+...
I have MTP + ADB on both phones when using code *#7284# also... is there anything useful in this code besides unlocking phone? *#197328640# ??? Diagnostic mode here... *#0*# any more codes?

i317M (Canadian) Modem on i317 (AT&T)

I have an unlocked Note 2 on Straight Talk AT&T. So I don't get LTE, and I want to turn it off. But AT&T RAT-locks their modems, so I can't. I know how to temporarily turn the RAT lock off, but all I can do is set the phone to only use HSPA+ (as in no EDGE either), and on top of that the menu option is missing for "Network Mode."
I've seen someone flash an i317M modem on a T889V succesfully (after trial and error and having to restore a QCN backup of their IMEI). What I'm asking is if I can flash an i317M modem on an i317. They're basically the same exact phone (unlike the T889/V, which is slightly different). Has anyone tried this? I just want to do this to be able to change frequencies whenever I want and turn off LTE. I hate that Samsung and AT&T locked us out of this menu. I know that all Canadian models (and the T-Mobile model here in the US) have the menu option.
TL;DR: Anyone try this?

I have the same issue.
I tried flashing the Rogers modem on my AT&T phone and it went into a boot loop.
Flashed the AT&T modem back and all was well.
What gives? If these phones have the same hardware.

Someone got an i317M modem on their T889V. They said they restored their QCN backup after flashing the modem, but it's impossible because the phone reboots like a minute after booting.

The person I'm talking about described it in a lot of detail and said in the end he has to stick to i317M modems otherwise the phone bootloops. In the i747 AT&T S3 section, someone provided a bootloader for the T-Mobile S3 (T999) and converted it to a T-Mobile S3 (with AWS) while retaining LTE.

[Q] At&t to T-Mobile

Here's the issue. I purchased the At&t s3 (SGH-I747) last year. Long story short, I wanted to go to T-Mobile prepaid with the same phone.
I purchased the SIM activation kit for $10, popped my SIM in and it worked!
Before I put the SIM in it though, I paid for an unlock code. I still have the code.
No 'Network Unlock' screen.
No prompt for my unlock code.
I am getting H+ speeds with the at&t s3 on T-Mobile prepaid without doing ANYTHING.
My question is:
Why cant I get to the unlock screen? I have tried to dial "#7465625*638*# for the prompt to popup and NOTHING.
Can someone tell me...
1. Can I flash a T-mobile rom to this phone? (every time i try I get a build.prop error, even after changing the model to the T999 and all that jazz),
so I can't install a T-Mo rom?
2. Do I have to flash a modem/radio or anything else like that?
3. Or, should I just continue to flash At&t Roms with the t-mo prepaid sim?
I have searched for a while now, and noone has my problem. I never expected to just switch sim's and it would work, so ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

since your device is still an AT&T branded Galaxy S III (SGH-i747), you must keep with ROMs designed for that phone. flashing T-Mobile branded Galaxy S III (SGH-T999) ROMs will brick your device, same thing goes for flashing modems.
just because your SIM and Carrier is now T-Mobile, doesn't mean your phone is.

Wrong. Flashing an rom meant for the AT&T variant of the S3 on a T-Mobile variant S3 and vice versa will not brick the device. APN setting may get messed up and you have to enter them manually but it will not brick the device. Flashing a ROM for the international S3 on a U.S. variant of the S3 and vice versa will brick the device.
I wouldn't recommend flashing modems between the variants of S3s, that may or may not brick the device but wouldn't try it.

If you want to unlock the S3 (you must be stock to do this, stocked rooted may work, but I'm not sure):
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone

Hello.
If you have signal then why are you trying to use the code? It is unlocked already!
im not an expert but this is what i know from reading a lot:
1.- I installed a t-mobile (t999) rom modified to work in a att s3 (i747), i think you can flash a any rom from the t999 section (i am not sure about this)
2.- Do NOT try to install a modem from t-mobile or you will hard brick your phone.
3.- Thats a good idea, do it and let me know if it works.
I used this files to convert an i747 to a t999 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771021&page=25 (read from post #246) so now i use customs roms for the t999 i did it because where i live do not have good signal, was stuck at edge and with those files now i have 3g signal.
Btw, i am in the $30 prepaid t mo plan.

That is not true. Before following these instructions ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771021&page=25 ) I could NOT install any t-mo rom as CWM verifies the make/model before installing the rom.
Hence, me having the 'installation cannot continue' build.prop=d2att.
So, now AFTER flashing the 4 files, I was able to install 3 different T-Mobile ROMS. XTREMEPERIA ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199018 ) was the only one that is giving me 4G. I know, I know, its all in the APN settings, but this is the only one that gave me truly 4G speeds with a T-Mo sim.

You are right, clockworkmod (Rom Manager) does verify, however if you select
and flash the Tmobile T999 recovery image when flashing clockworkmod recovery
all is fine.
Another thing, if you have a unlocked i747 and flash any Tmobile cwm zip file rom as
soon as it reboots and you check the network in the phones settings it will display
"T-Mobile US" and will work properly without the need of any other files or conversions.
However the Unlocked I747 will never work with Tmobile's 3G or 4G networks.

No, that is incorrect. With the 4 files I flashed, I was on T-Mobile network. It was a T-Mobile ROM, T-Mobile sim, and T-Mobile radio.

Quit saying you are using a T-Mobile radio before you help someone brick their phone. The radio files are NOT interchangeable between ANY of the US variants!

Oh, my bad. I thought 'modem' and 'radio' were the same thing.
THEY ARE!!!!
Notice in the picture how under the 'phone' tab, it says MODEM.
Yes, I flashed all 4, and now have a t-mobile setup on an at&t s3.

You need to specify that you are using an engineering image that T-Mobile used on the 747 before the T-999 was available to test the device. In general if you flash a T-Mobile radio image to a 747, you risk losing calls and data at minimum and a hard brick at worst. It is imperative to make sure to point out that it only works with THAT engineering set.

Ahh...gotcha. Thats what it states in THAT OP, I just thought that once that build was on the phone, from that point on, any T-Mo anything would work. I did have the watermark on my wallpaper, but everything else said 't-mobile'.
But, yes in general, if you flash TMO onto AT&T, there be dragons.
Thanks all, and happy flashing!
Even with that configuration, the only thing T-Mobile you can flash is recovery and custom ROMs. A T-999 baseband or boot loader could very well cause a brick. Its a dangerous hack because it has everyone confused. For all intents and purposes, it is 747 software with T-Mobile's AWS capability. In fact it doesn't even seem to have DC-HSPA, only HSPA+ (21mbps versus 42). It has the benefit of supporting T-Mo LTE though.
Awesome

It doesn't make sense for T-Mobile to refarm their LTE. The 1700 AWS band is the most efficient spectrum they currently own and the AWS spectrum is going to be the most compatible across LTE networks. T-Mobile has pretty much no chance of ever getting the 700MHz that at&t and Verizon are using.

Unlocked SGH-T999L on ATT

Good Afternoon,
I currently have an unlock SGH-T999L with 4.1.2 and MD5 baseband. My current issue is that I get 4G once I put the ATT sim card but i dont get LTE. Does anyone have configuration modification to get LTE on a LTE Tmobile phone?
Looks like you have a T999 not T999L based on your baseband.. That device does not support lte so you will not pick up lte with it

My apologies I have the MB7 baseband which is the one for the T999L
Alright, on the apn make sure it reads fast.t-mobile.com, everything else should be fine how it is.. Should pick up lte after that
Edit: my mistake, you need the at&t lte APN make sure it is the correct one

Any update on this? Just bought a T999L to use with my ATT Straight Talk SIM card, got it unlocked and HSDPA is working fine. Is not connecting to LTE though, unless I force it using *#*#4696#*#*. At that point, it shows LTE by the signal bar, but I have no data and it says "Emergency Calls Only". After a few seconds it goes back to H+ and everything works again.
I can't think of any technical reason why the phone won't work on AT&T's network, unless AT&T has blocked non-AT&T IMEI numbers?

wow sorry i took so long I just saw this... Its just the APN settings that the AlL things ATT says... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221 like post #4 I think... APN settings make sure you flash the newest modem for your service provider (modem will not change bootloader) and flash the ATT modules also..l. and Kernel depending on what phone you have and what service your using.... I now am on an S4 I337 ATT on ATT but was running a Tmobile app the Sickness , deadly venom, dark carnage.... they all work together.... just flash rom the kernel if needed and always flash modules for your baseband so if your supposed to be on NJ4 att kk 4.4.4 flash the NJ4 modules... and so on... sorry hope this helps

Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network.

I recently just got a plan on the Canadian cell service provider, WIND, on my Roger's phone. I unlocked it and make it able to use AWS bands, which is what WIND is on. The phone read WIND fine when I was getting the plan, but only a few hours later the signal died and now I'm getting "Your SIM does not allow a connection to the network".
I tried using ODIN and flashing back to stock 4.1.1, but that has not worked. I don't know what to do right now.
I also tried turning the radio on and off, and that has not worked.
I'm stumped. Can anybody help?
You have to reapply the AWS mod the moment you flash another modem.
My phone was was modded and has had SEVERAL different modems and never had to re apply the mod is a hardware firmware flash and should stick. You could try I suppose but it may b with all the ownership changes with carriers here they may have changed frequencies. Like Telus screwed 90% of Public mobile customers.
When I modded mine I went through QPST there is a thread in development.

SUCCESS:: LTE Band 17 (AT&T / MVNO) working on G930v

Hello, All.
I've successfully completed my quest in getting my Verizon Galaxy S7 to work with AT&T's primary LTE band; Band 17.
At first I was using the PE1 firmware with root. I first used Phone INFO (for Samsung) app to access the service code 2263. On PE1, only the factory Verizon-supplied bands were showing as supported. Band 12/17 were not showing in the service menu.
I took my chances and flashed the G930U firmware (found on the AT&T S7 forum of all things) and booted the phone with my AT&T SIM card. I ran LTE Discovery and achieved profit. Band 17 was working with the same signal as the iPhone 6S the SIM card came out of.
Also, the 930U firmware completely debrands the phone, which is perfect since I'll be using it on AT&T. After I confirmed band 17 I proceeded to root using the normal method of flashing the engboot and installing the root/SuperSU package per the root instructions. I did not use the Verizon PE1 debloater/fixes .zip files to make necessary tweaks, post root. I performed the tweaks manually (wifi fix, CPU governer: interactive, and SecurityLogAgent) .. Let me know if I'm missing anything in those regards please.
The ONLY thing I can't do now is view all the LTE bands in 2263 Service Mode. I get a "RAT Selection option: is restricted".. I want to see if all LTE bands are unlocked now. If you know of another way to see all the supported LTE bands, please let me know!
I now have exactly what I was set out to accomplish and it's great. The S7 is replacing my iPhone 6S on AT&T and I will be buying a Note 7 to replace the S7 on Verizon. If/when root is achieved on the Note 7 I will do the same and replace the Note 7 on Verizon with the iPhone 7 (I cycle my personal/business phones as a guilty pleasure if you can't tell already)

nice work, thanks for taking the plunge
Just did the same on a friend's S7 that he was trying to get on Cricket's LTE, as the VZW firmware kept him on HSPA+ at most. All I had to do was flash the AT&T firmware and bam, LTE. I forgot to check what band it was on but at least it's an additional proof of concept.
Thanks for the info!
Can u link that ROM
I haven't tried with Samsung, however, most phones with Qualcomm modems can be accessed via QXDM or similar PC software. Often the so called hacked HTC modem driver will allow QXDM to communicate with the phone.
There are XDA threads detailing how to access the appropriate LTE bands and selecting bands of choice using the above method.
AT&T and VzW both use bands 2 and 4, so you probably have all the bands that you need covered already.

The factory Verizon firmware did NOT have LTE band 12 or 17 unlocked so I was only getting HSPA+ with little spurts of band 2/4 LTE every once in a while with the AT&T SIM card in it. Flashing the 930U unlocked band 12/17 for me so I have full LTE coverage in the same spots where I only had HSPA+ before.

One thing to note also is that the G930U firmware auto detects your carrier settings and has you restart after first boot. I'm assuming it will unlock correct bands depending on the carrier SIM you use. The G930U firmware does NOT, however, like the Verizon SIM. Upon updating carrier settings with a Verizon SIM installed, the device will reboot into recovery. Every time you power on the device it will prompt you to update the carrier settings and will have you reboot again.. back into recovery. Rinse and repeat. I had to refresh the U firmware to get my band 12/17 back after putting the Verizon SIM in.

The issue I have is with the U Firmware. However, the method does not trip knox. Make a Smartswitch backup and give it a go. If it still doesn't work flash back to AT&T stock and restore from your backup.
OP: if you haven't been able to allow the RAT selection i'd suggest this.
go to Service mode main menu (either broadcast cmd 27663368378 or app like shortcut master), 2. ue setting > 1. setting > 1. protocol > 5. sim > 4. EF_RAT Free Supporting > 1. EF rat free supporting on (select even if it shows on)> now RAT Free Support.
Then business as usual.

Your call is being transmitted over LTE so the data reverts back to Hspa during the call. Mine does this but returns to LTE after I hang up.

Thanks for the explanation. So at this point what is the point of this method? Does unlocking the band lead to a stronger signal?

You unlock the band that AT&T primarily uses for LTE. Much more LTE signal throughout the nation on band 17.
