You've gotta try this! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm going to risk posting in the wrong forum in the hopes of getting some more attention on this app...MyScript Notes Mobile. I followed the instructions in this thread and am totally blown away by how functional it makes the Note II. This does require root and a custom recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526433
This app vindicates every hope I had for the S Pen. I can scribble a quick note and export the text straight into GTasks, or a host of other apps. I can write page after page and then convert just the parts I want straight into text by circling it. The management of notebooks and pages is simple and intuitive. I liked S Notes OK, but this is in another class.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHHO--XZlqM
The fun part of this is the fact that S Notes is made by the same company that made this app. There is also talk that this app may show up in the Samsung app store before the end of the year, so those of you that are unwilling to root may get a version of this app, too!

Wow that's so cool I'll definitely try it
thanks for the tip!!

What's the difference between this and the same feature in s note or the feature in txt message. Does it work in all apps or something? ?

Follow the link to the video. The handwriting conversion can be real-time without writing in another area of the screen, or it can be converted later. I know it seems a small thing, but it is not.

Works great! Requires Root and Flash in Recovery!
Made my Note/S-Pen more usefull. Actually using it more than the S-Note. Thank you much for posting!

Here's a Note2 safe version of the app to flash. The only difference is that the script is modified and rewritten to accommodate the file system of the Note2 as opposed to the Xoom, which it was originally written for. Basically, this version is tested and set up for the Note2 specifically.
I need a few of you guys to test it out before I post a thread for it. This app works 100% for me.
Removed download. Visit this thread to play with the work in progress.

Many thanks! Downloaded and flashing now. Comments to follow.

Installed fine, but the wheel that you use to convert text is missing. Actually, it is there, I just cannot see it. Also, the first couple of characters are a very heavy pen weight, but then it gets real thin.
Just backed up all apps with TiBu and planning on a factory reset to try again.

It's the same thing in the Xoom version. The only difference here is the script isn't formatting your caches to yaffs.

Factory reset did the trick. The wheel is back. The pen weights are still goofy, but it works just fine. I'll keep you posted, but it is sure nice to have the text wheel back.

Hmmm... May be a conflicting lib file. My wheel isn't there either. I'm going to open a thread to support and trouble shoot it.

I don't see why this can't be a standard apk for unrooted. But then again, I just watched the video.

I wonder why we need this app if our stock Note 2 can do this on the stock keyboard?

Is this phone dead in the water?

Hey guys, I just got an S3 3 days ago, just got paid again and was wondering if I should go ahead and spring for the note 2 but everyone keeps telling me since the note 2 has exynos, it will be hard to develop for or something? I've had an iPhone for 5 years so I'm a clinical retard when it comes to android stuff. It almost seems like the people saying that are kind of jealous that they don't or can't get the note 2. I was just wondering if you can easily root the note 2 and flash CM10, because I hate bloatware and love CM10 sounds. If CM10 isn't available is it possible to de bloat it at all?
De bloating is no problem. CM10 will lose the S-pen functionality on this monster.

Thanks for the reply brother. Another quick question, I used a very easy toolkit to root my S3, I don't remember who made but it was in green text and in console. Is there anything like that available for the note 2, it was amazingly simple to use and easily un rooted my S3, I've been on Android for all of 4 days so excuse my nubishness. Lol
Right now it is a little more difficult to root than a 1 click method...but in time I bet the developers will make it happen..
MY honest opinion...get the Note II...

I rooted within 5 minutes of getting the phone, but I would imagine that this only applies if you're rooted. AT&T doesn't want you taking its bloat/spy/malware off, so I really doubt they'd let an unrooted user go through and delete the apps.
I'm waiting for the Multi-view update before rooting. Save myself from having to unroot. And as for bloatware, you can just "disable" it - without rooting.
And as for it being "dead in the water".... what you talking about? News to me...

As far as rooting goes... There is a method on here that literally takes about 3 mins from beginning to end.. very easy. Once rooted, just download and install Cleanrom Lite 1.0...this rom is debloated and extremely fast/smooth. There are plenty of sms apps that provide quick reply... gosms/chompsms/handcent are just a few. This is one awesome phone and I wouldn't worry too much about development, or lack thereof.

No need to root to de-bloat. I'm on the stock ROM, haven't seen a need to root yet.
1. Go to: "Settings | Application Manager" and swipe over to the "All" tab.
2. Find what you want gone (i.e. all of the AT&T apps) and tap it.
3. Clear data, Clear cache. Some apps might also require you to "uninstall updates".
4. Force stop.
5. Disable.
You're done. If you later want to re-enable something, scroll down to the bottom of the "All" list ... it has everything you've disabled listed there. I've disabled about 32 things that came preloaded, including almost all the Samsung cloud stuff, GMail, all the Google Sync services, all the Google additional services (apps like Google+ and Google Play Magazines/Movies & TV/Music, not Android system services), with no issues whatsoever.

Is there an SMS app with Quick Reply that preserves the look of the stock Jelly Bean SMS app? I really like the way it looks already loaded on the Note 2 so I don't want to take away its aesthetics.

yes go to setting-application manager slide to the right until u see all apps then scroll down to any app u want to debloat select then disable. Boom the app will disappear. Remember this method only disable the app if u want to delete them then need root. Learn about Odin stuff that easy for new noobs. Good luck

no lol. best reasons to root right now are good phone backups, decent file explorers, and interface modifications. There are a few other niche reasons to root but a regular user should be just fine. this phone's really good.
The Note 2 runs great without rooting.
And its nice that you can disable unwanted apps as mentioned above.
And if u dont like the main UI (touchmywiz) then just download another launcher like Nova or golauncher.
Problem with most Roms is there is usually something that doesnt work...thats just part of it.

Yes stop floundering and just root the Note. Its painless and mostly one click. With Triangle Away, you can easily wipe the flash counter if you ever need to unroot the phone and return it for warranty or whatever.
I rooted for the ability to:
1. Use Titanium Backup to backup app data and freeze/uninstall bloatware && system apps (TB alone is worth rooting.)
2. Use ADblock. (Seriously refuse to EVER look at ads on my phone)
3. CUSTOM ROMS. (The biggest reason to root. My phone has JEDI-ROM which is a BEAST of a ROM. Unlimited Multi-window with ANY app, the FORCE optimizations, and BATTERY LIFE. My N2 was getting about 14 hours from a full charge on stock rom, now it gets on average of 24-30 HOURS on one charge. I don't even charge it during the night anymore.)
ATT won't be sending out any updates for the phone until a couple of months at least. Will Multi-Window even be included? Who knows. If it is included, it WONT be compatible with any app like the modded version.
If you make a list of WHY NOT, and WHY SHOULD you root, the WHY NOT list will be alot shorter. The flash counter is really the only "permanent" change you are making to the phone that will void warranty, but like I said there is a Root method which doesnt trip the counter, or you can use Triangle Away to wipe it.
I was happy un-rooted for the past 3 to 4 weekst, but i needed root access so I could use Root Explorer to delete a file so I could get flash to work with Dolphin Browser.
Sunday I rooted and flashed Jedi 3.2 ROM. I also had to flash a different Kernel so it would recognize my SanDisk 64GB Ultra MicroSD card. Now I'm enjoying Multi-View and no bloat. Hard to say but my battery live seems improved. That could be just a matter of usage not different. Time will tell. But I'm happy I finally rooted and flashed a custom ROM.
If you need to you can always go back to stock for warranty issues, but I've never had to do that.
Sorry to ask this... but can someone just provide a simple link to a easy-to-do root method, without me having to wade through hundreds of different threads and thousands of different posts? I am very new to rooting. I've only done it once, with my old HTC EVO 4G, and that was seamless because it was a one-click root method. All of these other subsequent root methods for other phones, including the Note, seem really intricate and they seem to require tons of time I don't have to devote to reading. If an easy root method is available, with instructions, I thank anyone in advance for directing me towards it. I only really want to root for Titanium Backup and also to improve battery life. I can't get these crazy on-screen times other non-rooted (or so they claim) folks are getting, so it seems like rooting will be the only way I can dream of getting it.
I'd like the same.. simple explanation and instructions..

To root fast and easy:
Download this and extract:
http://download.chainfire.eu/280/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-t0lteatt-samsungsghi317.zip
unplug your phone for the pc,
run odin3 v1.85. click pda and then select cf-auto-root...md5
Make sure the box "re-partition" is not checked.
Hook your phone up to your usb port on your pc. wait a few seconds for that first box to turn green then click start.
your phone will reboot on its own and then you're done.
Follow this to the letter. I basically just summarized a guide i used but could not find again to link you to it.

The only reason I haven't rooted mine yet is because I am lazy...lol...lol...lol
Should you root yours...is a matter of personal perference really.Since you already know a little about it..you know what to look for and what to expect.
Do you like it as it is...or do you want to start flashing various mods & themes and different roms ?
It's no different than your S2 really in regards to this...except these run nice as they are out of the box...
I'm not a big fan of Touch Wiz...or any other skin someone has put on it...and while the virtues of the S-pen apps that come bundled with it are nice...I know it won't be long till they or some good substitutes are offered out of it as well...I just didn't buy my Note II for the S-pen...I bought it because of what it can be...and because of the hardware it already employs...Since I enjoy mixing and matching various things to make my phone unique and the best for me......rooting mine is only a matter of time..
I see a bright future for this phone and what has been done so-far is only a scratch on the surface of it...
Root it and play around with it..or keep it stock...either way enjoy it.

Rooting doesn;t seem that hard to do. What I'm worried about is how to install a custom ROM and making sure I did everything right. I feel like there's different instructions depending on the rom I see and sometimes there's no instructions at all!
I put ICS on the HP Touchpad that I got cheap but that is the extent of my knowledge on this topic. I'd really love to have Multiview because ATT can't do their jobs but I'm worried I'd screw up. Is there a detailed explanation or online video showing me how to install a rom like Jedi for example?

Google Plus hangouts video chat

The Google Plus app updated yesterday. While the update is phenomenal, one thing I've noticed: I am no longer able to make video chats via cellular data. I have talked to many other users on other carriers and it seems some carriers allow and others don't. I wanted to start this thread to both find out which carriers allow video chat through hangouts over cellular data and find out if there is a work around for us AT&T customers.

1.Get SQLight editor from the market
2. Get Root Explorer from the market.
3. use Root Explorer to browse to /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db and click on it
4. then click on “main”
5. Scroll down to gtalk_vc_wifi_only – highlight and hold

Have you ever tried Groupme? It's in the playstore.
It's not in our secmms by default. Is a pretty simple mod to do though.

Not really, the Verizon variant doesn't have the notification bubbles on the lockscreen, shutterv sound in camera app and the launcher didn't have infinite scrolling. They all got there neat little added features.

The mod to activate the ability to do group messaging in SecMms is simple, but in my experience getting it to function as it's supposed to is a different story unfortunately. With help from a thread in the AT&T section I believe I got it close, but not close enough for me to keep it.
That being said, 4.2.2 roms I believe are fine with group messaging.
Can you let us know how you did it, if its not too much trouble?

This was useful for "flipping the switch" in the SecMms.apk itself, but most of my experimenting came from pulling framework2.jar/SecTelephonyProvider.apk files from here, decompiling them, looking for where things changed (comparing a "base" version - I used unmodified Novella files as those were reported working - to the modded versions in the post), then looking at our own files, seeing where things differ between the unmodified Novella and TMobile versions, and trying to work in the changes from the OP of that thread. It was pretty close, but there was still some buggy behavior in my opinion for how I wanted to implement things (which differed slightly from the OP) - so I figured aosp mms was close enough for me and let it go lol. This is no small task - but far from impossible. For me it was a cost/benefit thing - it was costing myself too much of my own time for a benefit I could get elsewhere - but such cost/benefit analyses will vary from individual to individual

{UPDATED} Smart Remote for Galaxy S4 - RETURNED TO PLAY STORE! FLOATING REMOTE ADDED

UPDATE: There has been an update released since returning to the Play Store yesterday. The biggest things would be the addition of a floating (chatheads-esque) remote and a backup/restore option (linked to your Google account).
---------------------------------------------------------
As of this morning, 7/26, Smart Remote is back in the Play Store. No update yet, but knowing them one will be available within a day.
---------------------------------------------------------
If you, like me, have been wondering where your favorite remote app for the GS4 went and when is coming back, I just got an email from the developer.
Hi
The app is off the market because of an error on Google's part since July 2nd . It is not something that we can do and they are saying the app will be available again in about 7 working days.*
In the meantime we are working to come back with new cool features.*
If you uninstalled the app we can provide a link where you can download it and use it untill we will be back . We are also offering full support like always .*
Regards
Alina
I can't wait to see the new features. These guys have always been very responsive to user request and input. Hopefully next week we'll see is return to the Play Store.
---------------------------------------------------------
I just got a follow up email after asking if she might share what some of these features might be:
Hi Kenan,
The problem is that the competition already copied our app, and making these features public would give them a head start releasing them before we even get a chance to. Just believe us when we say that it will be a lot faster for you to access your remotes, install the app on your other devices and automate tasks.*
Thank you,
Alina
thank you for the info
I'm rather new to the s4. What did this app do?

Is a customizable app for the IR blaster. You'll be able to control most things with an IR port, from your TV to your air conditioner. For me it's completely replaced every remote in my house. Think of it as a much more handy and powerful Logitech Harmony remote, macro commands included. Plus the developers are very responsive (within a day many times) to adding devices.

I never uninstalled the app and have it backed up. I don't want to just pass out a link since the app only has a paid version. You can email them [email protected], I'm sure they would provide you with the information.

As I said, it's a paid app so I'm not going to post a download link or provide the file. If the developers want to provide one to you that's up to them. I would write them an email and ask. But it should be back in the Play Store this week.
Awesome, I'll download the app once it's back out. Let us know. Thanks

I thought I was crazy. Haha. I purchased the app, but went flash happy with new roms and didn't do a backup of it... Went to download it from the store again and it was gone! I emailed Google and got some canned response that "they were unable to refund my purchase" which wasn't what I had asked at all. Anyway, glad it's back!
Do you need to have the TouchWiz ROM, or will it work on AOKP?
