I think it's mainly because there's only one Apple phone releases a year and there's a million Android devices every year. Android now owns more than 70% market share. If the Nexus was the only Android device available, 7 in 10 people would have a Nexus, 2 would have an iPhone, 1 would have a Windows 8 phone and one 1 Blackberry. With the Nexus being the best, its retail value would be higher than the iPhone. It's not that the Apple has high resale value. It's that there's only one IPhone a year from one manufacturer and it happens to be second place in market share. Completely understandable.

Nah dude. Let's be honest here. iPhones are great devices. There's a reason why they're so popular. I do think that Android devices are much better but I used to be an iPhone owner up until the 3gs.

Exactly. That company sucks and is too high on themselves. They want to sue everyone cause they are afraid of competition. Thanks to them suing Samsung, I was stuck without a phone for 5 weeks back in August and September when my last S2 quit working and I was up in NE on the road

It comes down to the simple fact that they want to stop all competition by suing everyone because they can't innovate. And they want to charge exorbitant amounts for what they sell. Their thinking is that they should be the only ones around and you either pay their high prices or did without. They are nothing but crooks that are clogging up the legal system to make themselves richer but the moment while people have to scrape and save just to have food. My strong opinion and wish is that their stock drops rapidly and they company dies a quick death cause. That company just makes me sick.

Also, apple is good at marketing and developing a 'cult' for their brand. Additionally, their devices are simple and limited (insert vehicle comparison analogy here). I am never able to use a modern OS without getting OCD'd to skin/theme/flash/etc so no Apple for me, like most of the people here.

The iphone does not suck its a kick ass phone they also make the best tablets in my honest opinion but I will still never buy another Apple product again...i don't like how they move jobs overseas. If they kept them here they would still make a profit.. They are so big of a company that they could single handedly make a giant dent in the unemployment rate in the United States and offer many people an honest job. Instead its a game to them to see how much money they can aquire when they do not actually need it and never will. I am aware that they are not the only company to do it but it still passes me off... Yeah but apple isn't going to fail anytime soon. The company is huge and the average consumer loves their products because they are simple and they just work. If my galaxy s 4g wasnt rooted and custom rom'd then i wouldnt even be able to use it for simple tasks. The average person doesnt have the time for all that. They want something that works properly and works really good. Not everyone wants to mod and constantly theme their device every day of the week. You can do that with apple if you jailbrake your device anyways. I don't understand why do you guys take things like this so personally. So what if apple does what it does. Does it have any relevance with our life or take anything away from you? No. They aren't taking away from YOUR market share or taking away your money so why should it even matter to any of you at all. What the article fails to mention is that most of those patents could never be used to critically damage Google because Google could argue that it would destroy competition/ put them out of business/ create a monopoly. In other words, not happening.

I agree with this completely. All that would be required to stall a potential suit, is an anti-competition counter suit. Federal laws are in place to prevent power moves, like the ones Apple has been pulling lately.

I wonder if everyone in the jury owns an iPhone 4S in an Otter Box...? The thing I love most about my Samsung GS3 is the fact that it's not an iPhone.

As for the future, who knows, but this is a really big deal. With what was granted, no phone maker will come close to an iphone design again for fear of a lawsuit with now a precedent. Worst case is manufacturers start to question if Android is a viable ecosystem considering everything it runs on is probably sue-able by Apple now.
They hopefully stop with Samsung and don't go further as Sammy was their biggest threat. But they might now set their sites on HTC as well and be the final nail in that coffin.
While this is bad enough, I think the worst is because it sets a standard and Apple now has control over what we know the mobile industry today.

lol and this is probably the best reason yet to never buy anything from apple i can understand protecting your ideas but it seems like most of the stuff they didnt even come up with
this sucks. but samsung can sue, when the iphone with LTE comes out samsung can sue apple because of the patents they have for LTE. with the divisons the samsung have they eat the billions, and get the money back with the parts they make for the iphone/ipad they make.
Everyone is complaining....its actually a win! Besides apple how many phones use or are now using samsung chargers? Easiest to use...win one. And you get a samsung for how much compared to apple? With better options, root, etc.

Samsung did copy Apple and because they were to lazy and careless, they got caught. Period. Yes, innovation is often achieved on improving and evolving a product of a rival company, but you just have to be a lot more slick about it. They had emails of them admitting it.
Now Samsung will be forced to innovate even harder and this will make our Galaxy 4's even more impressive.
And Android should be safe now the Google got the Motorola patents. They should be able to force Apple into some sort of an agreement, now the Steve Jobs has passed away.
I really hope android platform and look isn't affected by this verdict.

Hopefully this won't affect the sales of the S3. My upgrade isn't until Sept 1st and I really want the S3. I hate apple so much. You should see some of the posts I wrote about them on other forums. And if I were Samsung, I would quit making Apple's screens and components for some of their devices..

I've been a long time iPhone user, since the first one, and I just bought a Galaxy s3 and can honestly say I don't miss it at all. The new one is just more of the same....
This is probably going to get locked down real fast.....but its definitely a BIG dissappointment. Some of my friends are turning into hypocrites real fast saying they'll buy it. Especially when they told me"I don't need a bigger screen, 3.5 is more than enough" this was when I had the x10, captivate, nexus s etc. iPhone users need to wake up.

I was going to reply, just this..LOL so funny. I had every iPhone ever released until 3 weeks ago, got the GS3 and i couldn't be happier, iP5 is just a minor minor revision, playing catch up to the rest of the world.
The only feature I was eagerly looking forward to in the iPoop5 was NFC, but, nope, mobile payments are now set back a few years for everyone.

Actually, what we really need would be Google Wallet support for our GS3's without the hack-around. But we know that wouldn't work with Apple since they're now Anti-Google. Forget where i saw it... think it was on the news earlier, but i like how they put it. Lol they do. They said my infuse is too big for pockets :face palm: now I just say I'm used to having big things in my pocket, but 4.5 isn't really all that large anymore. So many I sheep at my school, then again I'm at a richer private school lol they were all like ooohh ahh the iPhone 5 is the best. Then I shut them up when I told them about the gnote 2 haha.

GS3 owner can have an opinion about other products specially if they are direct competitors, it is not about making he threat about OS vs OS, but general opinions about the product just announced.

Its almost impossible to get (cheap) nfc tags in Canada. I asked a Best Buy rep at the Eaton Centre store in Toronto a couple of days ago, and he had no idea what NFC was.
I was really hoping the new iphone would have it so that it would become 'mainstream', but guess we have to wait another year now. Also, doesn't help that stupid S Beam is incompatible with Android Beam (try transferring photos to any non-GS3 phone, it will fail..till we get updated to JellyBean)

i remember reading reviews almost 'ranting' about how light the galaxy s and galaxy s ii were. people were saying 'too light', 'does not feel premium because phone does not feel substantial in hand', 'iphone is perfect with high quality weight to it', 'sometimes not sure if in pocket or not'. something along those lines.
and i read this on a youtube comment but I think it could hold some truth. could Apple have not included nfc (even if it wanted to/why wouldn't they want to?), because it already finalized its aluminum design? fail.
So I'm flipping through the channels and come across Tim Cook on ABC. And they show the Samsung Galaxy S3 commercial that shows people waiting for the iPhone. He said apple loves competition, ya right. And now they are talking about getting into TVs. Seems to me that apple is now noticing what us Android owners already know. That they where the leader in the phone bussiness but now left behind.

all companies are going to branch out into markets that they are already connected to through competition. apple really hasn't ever invented anything, they've just been extremely good at marketing. it has nothing to do with which phone is better, because there is a user for every phone, it just depends on what you're looking for. i was talking to a girl today who has an iphone and she was like holy **** your phone looks awesome. i showed her all the cool **** i can do on it that she can't on hers, and well... she wasn't impressed at all. she didn't care about rooting, she didn't care about custom keyboards, themes, etc... all she cared about was how nice the screen was, that it was bigger, and that it multitasked better, which is something that apple needs to work on and they know it. so yeah... at least the iphone can copy and paste now!

I have a friend who is a apple fanboy. He asked me to explain to him why Android is better than Apple. Spent an hour telling him what Android can do compared to apple. At the end, he's still stupid.

I theorize that apple is just were they want to be. They have their little garden and their fruit too. People are and will be sucked in. I wantedbabtablet 2 years ago but got an itouch. This was very important because I had a phone at the time that had simmilar specs yet slower than molases ona flat table in alaska! People who adopted android early on went to apple because they were fed up with bugs, slowness and the fact they werent really good. Today, this just is NOT the case but people still distrust android even in its late stage. The apple garden offers all their "speed" at a price. You buy all apple and your stuck with it, Cause its so damn expensive! Comparing android to ios is pointless in the wprld of today because the gap has been filled in with cement. I stayed with android after playong in webos and ios. Android won because I saw the potential as the specs just got more and more ridiculus and the battery finally decent enough to have a phone thats useable. If you look back at apples history you can see steve jobs saved the company. So apple being worried is plausable yet highly implausible. Theyve sols too many things to come close to finacial woes. They need an apple tv because people wanted one. So once everyones convinced they arent gonna make one, we'll see one.

Erm? Apple already has made TVs lol. And monitors for their computers. The only reason apple has so much more money and net worth is because they make 10 times the products android does.. Androids an operating system. Apple is a wide variety of electronics and software unfortunately..
I wish Apple and Android just battle it out old west style. Biggest gun (features) wins. Bringing the law into it seems tasteless. Just let the better device speak for itself.
