HOW TO EXECUTE:
Please extract the .tgz in the place you want, for example in /home/user
Open a terminal and type the following:
>[email protected]: cd "THE PATH WHERE IS THE unltlauncher.sh FILE"
>[email protected]: bash ./unltlauncher.sh
If you extract it in /home/user/unlt, the path to the .sh must be /home/user/unlt
so you have to type:
>[email protected]: cd /home/user/unlt
>[email protected]: bash ./unltlauncher.sh
Note: If you're running on a 64 bits OS, please install 32 bits libraries. If you're running on Linux and you didn't configure UDEV rules for your device, please run the script with superuser permissions (sudo bash unltlauncher.sh)

NOTE FOR THOSE WHO DOWNLOAD unlt200.sh instead of the actual unlt201.sh: Please download unlt201.sh because the toolkit will not work on Nexus 10 if you are running unlt200.sh. The new version has the new CWM recovery.

Is there anyway this can be used with windows? I am not familiar with Linux but I've been looking around for a windows version of the nexus 10 toolkit

I'm wondering this too. I know that virtual machines can be touchy, especially when USB interfaces are involved, so I don't want to try that. Maybe a regular live DVD, or we could use the Wubi installer for ubuntu? I don't know if it's possible to install 32 bit libraries on a live DVD... but I guess I can just download a 32 bit ubuntu image if I go that route (if I can find a blank DVD somewhere!)

As Komodo said, a virtual machine is not recommended for running programs which involve USB interfaces.
Try running Ubuntu from a 32 bits Live CD. But I really recommend to have a Linux OS on hard drive.

There does exist a Toolkit that peforms the same functions as this one but it is meant solely for the Galaxy Nexus. It works on Win xp, Vista, 7 (both 32 and 64 bit versions). I have used the Win 7 64 bit to unlock and root my GNex.
Check my signature for the link to mskip's GNex Toolkit. mskip is an incredibly helpful person, maybe you guys can persuade him to alter his Toolkit to mirror tatelucas' [OP] Toolkit functionality.
As far as Linux is concerned, I am an old history prof. who has learnt linux myself. It is by far the easiest OS to get into but requires patience to learn the command line structure. I run Mint Maya on an old Windows xp box (secondary machine) to tool around Linux and it functions much better than the OS it originally came with.
Good luck.
I am going to try this on a friend's Nexus S (crespo) on Mint Maya and will report back. It should work as Mint takes off of Ubuntu.

has anyone confirmed this to work on Linux? or does it still need to be tested? Im running Ubuntu live cd right now because i wanted to try it, but because i am not familiar at all with linux, i wiould really prefer not to be the guinea pig.

Well, if the 32gb variety ever comes into stock again somewhere I'll be using this...

Got to the part where you choose automatic or manual and then it does nothing... I press a then enter and nothing happens.

This would work on all distros, unless something really bad is in the script.

Will running this script wipe my device?
I have all apps and media in their places and would like to avoid the setup again.

This script does multiple things depending on what options you select. Unlocking does wipe a device. The only other option here that does, I beleive, is flashing the factory image.

DELETED

everything is working great in Ubuntu!! any chance for a factory/stock 4.2 for toro though?

Failed on Nexus 7, android 4.2.1
Hi, just to let you know that this fails on my Nexus 7 (groupee) which has been upgraded OTA to 4.2.1 (not sure if this is a contributing factor though)
When I try debug it, it's clear that it fails to flash the CMW.
FYI, I was finally able to root my Nexus 7 using this : http://www.androidng.com/root-nexus-10-on-windows-osx-linux - I know, it's for Nexus 10, but amazingly, it works with my Nexus 7 too
Hope you find it useful.

[GUIDE][ROOT][Mac][Linux]Epic 4G Touch Root on Mac or Linux using Heimdall!

Video tutorial:
For those of you who want to root your Epic 4G Touch on a Mac or Linux, you can using this open-source tool called Heimdall.
Here's how to root your Epic 4G Touch on Mac or Linux.
Step 1. Put your Epic 4G Touch in Download Mode by holding down Volume Down button and Power button together for about 10 seconds then hit Volume Up button. Connect your phone to your computer via a USB cable.
Step 2. Go download the appropriate binaries for your Mac (OSX) or Linux 32-bit or 64bit at glassechidna.com.au
Get the file with "Binary" or "Binaries".
For Mac, you will get a .DMG file you can install and for Linux, you will get a .deb file you can install.
Install these files and open up a command prompt and type:
heimdall
You should get a bunch of syntax stuff, if so that's good, you have heimdall installed and working.
Step 3. Go download a rooted kernel, I recommend Zedomax Epic Touch Kernel v3:
Download Zedomax Epic Touch Kernel v3
*Note - You can also download any other kernel .tar file of your liking.
Step 4. Browse to the directory you've download the tar file by using command "cd":
cd /home/myusername/Downloads
Step 5. Untar the tar file:
tar xvf SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v3.tar
Step 5. Double-check you have a zImage file in the directory by typing:
ls -l
Step 7. Type the following to flash:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage
Step 8. Reboot and you can check that you've rooted your phone by going to Settings->About phone and see "ZedomaxEpicTouchKernel" in Kernel version.
Also you will see a new app called "Superuser" in apps.
Congrats, you've been rooted with a Linux or Mac.

Did this yesterday on MacBook Pro, 64-bit. Works as advertised, pretty simple. One quick tip, don't need to unpack the tar in heimdall; a double-click will do the trick... just gotta remember where you put it (and make sure you're in the right directory).

nice, thx for the cool tip bud.
just got my phone yesterday, and, was hoping that soon there would be a solution for us mac users..this looks great!
just a quick question; anyone who has used this, does it bork anything like wifi or bluetooth?
thanks again!
All I did was flash zedo's v3 kernel and everything still works. I'm actually getting better battery life, faster 3G and can now bench 450 lbs.
Nobody can make any guarantees, though... you know how it goes.
wow, benching 450 after flashing a rom is most impressive!
I'm having some issues with BT now, and its important for me for it to work; thats the only reason I asked..
This seems like the easiest root method I have seen for any Android phone, especially for a mac!
thanks

450 is really good, did rooting get you that energy?
LOL!
BTW, can you use any other recovery on this phone, or just Clockwork?
thanks!
So, heimdall is basically just an open-source implementation of tarball flashing with Odin? Very cool!
Also, would you mind listing MD5 or SHA1 checksum values for the kernels/etc that you post? Wouldn't want to flash anything corrupt...
EDIT: Nevermind, I went to actually download the file and the MD5 is right there! Thanks.
Thanks for all your work!

Odd... Heimdall Frontend never liked Odin tars when I tried it. I admit I didn't put too much effort into it - I'm a commandline kind of guy.
On Linux boxes the frontend and commandline utility are installed separately - these instructions work if you only have the CL utility but not the frontend.

Yup. Heimdall is a lifesaver for kernel developers... Some people actually add the following to their kernel build scripts to autoflash.
Code:
adb reboot download
heimdall flash --kernel arch/arm/boot/zImage
Too bad you guys don't get SGS kernel flasher.
FYI a piece of advice from the Infuse community to the developers here - I strongly suggest having Odin-flashable dumps of a stock system and cache filesystem image made available. Having gtg465x's Ultimate Unbrick has been a lifesaver for the Infuse community - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112555
You'll probably see less of me around here as time goes by - I originally stopped by because a rant on an Engadget thread made me curious, and it is really interesting to watch the first few weeks of development bringup for a device. I still remember the excitement when Rogers released the Infuse with Gingerbread... We had an army of AT&T users ready to walk the Rogers owners through anything needed to get good device dumps.

Just flashed the stock kernel with Heimdall, still have root, no CWM (running some tests).

Nice, i feel the same way when i can get a new kernel working/compiling. But no, i cannot bench that much (yet), working on it.

I installed 1.2.0 before 1.3.0, so I'm not sure if 1.3 installs the binaries.
Put your E4GT into download mode and plug it in. Run terminal and type "heimdall detect" (or it may be "heimdall --detect"). I don't think you need to be in any particular directory to detect a device. If it detects it, then the binaries are installed and you can flash a monkey to your device if you have the proper setup.

Okay, so I'm going to step in and go somewhat around the purpose of this thread.
I also use linux.
Code:
Linux tango 3.5.0-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jul 29 21:59:24 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Still, while the sauce is available, some won't never go through it. I think you should make perfectly clear that people should understand the full manual process, go through it a couple of times before using a toolkit, whatever the operating system is. Perhaps even code snippet the used commands for each toolkit option. Even more transparency.

Sorry for my English. Let's see if I understood what you meant. You're saying that it would be great if I can explain in the thread what I'm doing in each line of the code, so the Linux users (included you) can understand how the script is working. Did you mean that?
Thanks a bunch! I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CWM and it worked perfectly.

Thanks. Going to root my wife's Australian Galaxy Nexus, hoping it fits GSM (haven't researched her phone, too busy with my devices heh). I've been using Linux since pre 1, probably 20 years now? So nice I don't have to resort to a windows install for Android stuff.
Big thanks if this easily does my wife's phone so I can spend less time using hers ha. Much prefer my HTC one x and xoom.

I have a few questions though because I am new to the Galaxy Nexus.
Q. When unlocking the bootloader doesn't this delete all data from phone?
Q2. If unlocking the bootloader doesn't delete my data, will rooting my phone delete my data?

Yes, I'm sorry that unlocking the bootloader will delete all your data. Please make a backup of your personal stuff before running that option.

You're welcome guys! Please ask me any question or make me any suggestion if you want. I'll be here for answering!

Root your device EASILY! [CASUAL] [Linux] [Windows] [Mac]

Ok guys, I've been putting work into CASUAL for Windows and Linux. Mac is still experimental. Here's how this works: I'm comitted to providing an easy way to root your device and you provide me with feedback, positive or negative. All I'm asking for is if it worked or where it failed and what type of computer you're using.
Introduction
This root method should be about the easiest one ever created. You launch the java JAR file and click "Do It". CASUAL will take care of installing drivers, runtimes, providing clear and easy-to-understand instructions. I want this to be easy and if there's something that can be improved, let me know.
Instructions
Click here and make sure Java is up-to-date (not JavaScript that you hear about all the security vulnerabilities, Java).
Download and launch CASUAL
Plug in your device
click "Do It!"
note: if it asks you to install drivers, you want to do MSM8960.

Conclusion
Again, this is a test of CASUAL. I want to improve it. I would like your help in getting feedback to improve the Cross-platform ADB Scripting Unified Android Loader platform. I need to confirm that this works on all operating systems.
Test list:
Crossed off means it was tested.
High Priority OS's
Windows 7 -32 bit
Windows 7 - 64 bit
Windows 8
OSX Lion
OSX Mountain Lion
Debian based Linux 64
Debian based Linux 32
Raspberry Pi running Debian based distributions
Low Priority OS's
Windows XP 32
Windows XP 64
OSX Tiger
OSX Leopard
OSX Snow Leopard
Releases
CASUAL R302b - Initial release
CASUAL R306b - fixed freezing on Linux64, needs retesting on Windows and Mac.
CASUAL R308b - fixed freezing on Windows by reorganizing data collection. This may be an error on Windows Java where reading Error Stream too quickly causes a crash.
If you find a problem, or even find a solution, please let me know. I am subuscribed to this thread.
Very Nice my friend will have to try this if my wife lets me root her Galaxy AT&T:good:, Do have a question does this trip your counter like Odin one Does, Also i see you got Windows 7 64 bit cross off i only use 64 bit on Windows 7 will this work on 64 bit?

Yes. It will trip the flash counter. This is part of the Loke daemon on the device and I cannot change that. You can use Triangle Away to remove the counter.
I'm crossing off operating systems which have been tested. As feedback comes in, they will be crossed off or have a note put by them until the next release.

Any plans to incorporate flashing a custom recovery at some point?
Sort of a one-click tool to take from stock to ready to flash a ROM?
I'll reflash stock, and give this a few run throughs on Win7 x64,
let you know if I have any issues.
Re: Root your device EASILY! [CASUAL] [Experimental]
Used this on win 7 32. Worked perfectly no problem. Thanks a lot. Helped me in a huge way.

Thanks! Crossed off the list!
I should also mention that you don't need to be stock. You can be rooted. The test is complete when you see Chainfire's CFAutoRoot.
new version available. Verified on Linux64. Should be working on Windows but needs testing. Mac needs testing.
Again, you need not be stock to verify everything works.
Windows 8 32bit is a no go. It hangs at checking device. I let it sit for about 10 minutes.
And as for windows 7 32bit also hangs on checking device but also tells me my device isn't paired right? It tells me to wait for onscreen instructions on my device that say to allow this computer and it doesn't ever pop up.

Ok, the freezing issue should be fixed.
I belive i have found an error in the Java language which I've isolated to Windows only. It appears to be an actual Java error. If you start a process, open a buffered reader to the process' STDERR and STDOUT, then immediately attempt to readLine from STDERR from a process which does not have a STDERR stream, it will halt the application and never finish the operation. I worked around this issue by reading STDERR after reading STDOUT. Line 131 addresses this issue https://code.google.com/p/android-c...ide&path=/trunk/GUI/src/CASUAL/Shell.java#131
@Mod's
IMO this thread should become a sticky so it doesn't get pushed back. Hope I'm not out of line.

Heimdall requires a generic driver, (WinUSB / libusb0 / libusbK), normally installed by Zadig.exe when your phone is in Download mode.
This shouldn't affect your device in normal (Android) mode, only in Download mode. If your having to reinstall drivers in normal mode you're doing it wrong, you installed the driver while your phone is in normal mode.
Because your phone has a different PID when its in Download from when its in normal mode (the driver from download mode can't be loaded in normal mode), thats the only reason I can think of why that would have happened.
Using USBDeview, (with your phone unplugged) remove all "Samsung" Drivers then next when you plug in your phone Windows will install the correct driver from the inf store.
Confirmed working on Windows 7 64bit....just used this to root my girlfriends GS3... thanks a bunch!

That's not a virus warning. Thats a legitimate warning. Its telling you that you have an incomplete download.. i.e the archive is corrupt. Redownload the toolkit and try installing it again. Make sure the file size matches what is posted on my webiste, or hashcheck it. Use a good browser and a stable connection to download files.
Edit: I see the virus warning now as well. Yes, that is a false positive, and you should report it to your AV provider - they will review it and add it their whitelist database - I have done this with many AV providers, but its difficult to keep sending them stuff for every release. But my original statement stands.. it looks like an incomplete download as well.

My wugfresh won't restore my nexus to stock. I am trying to restore factory 4.2.1. It goes through all the steps and completes but I still am booted to my custom rom. My sdcard was wiped so I have no stock ROM to restore from recovery.
EDIT: Updated Wugfresh and it works again!

Hey Wug, thank you the response and thank you for taking the time to build the app, folks like you willing to put time into this stuff is a great thing. I worked through the driver install (both automatic and manual), and the troubleshooting, but didn't have any luck with the gui. I ended up tracking down manual root instructions and was able to get the phone rooted. Rooting my galaxy nexus was a lot easier than I remember rooting my Fascinate was.
Cheers and thanks!

[Release] JOdin3 CASUAL Cross Platform and Web-Based Flashing For Samsung Phones

JOdin3 Web Browser Based and Offline flashing tool
This is the official support page for JOdin3, a CASUAL-X project. JOdin3 allows you to flash Odin files on Linux, Mac and Windows. It is powered by CASUAL and @Benjamin Dobell 's Heimdall tool. Using the power of CASUALcore, LibPit and Heimdall, it enables flashing of Odin files in the same manner you'd expect from the offical Samsung Odin tool.
Read more: http://casual-dev.com/2014/01/04/jodin3-web-browser-or-offline-flashing-tool/
Website: http://Jodin3.casual-dev.com
Download:http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/JOdin3
Never download from anywhere except the link above. I won't have the CASUAL name tarnished with malware. Also, verify that your download has the proper signatures with the "jar-signer -verify" command.
Easy flashing
We expect this to be relatively trouble-free. However, there are some stumbling blocks. First, JOdin3 requires a PIT file, which can be automatically obtained, but it requires a device reboot. Jodin3 will walk you through this process. On windows, drivers should be auto-installed. On Mac, Heimdall will be auto-installed. On debian-based Linux, Heimdall will be automatically installed and you will receive in-app instructions on all platforms.
With that said, 99.9999% of problems should be solvable with the simple troubleshooting guide below
Troubleshooting Guide
Mac: Visit the Heimdall Website and install the packages for your distribution, then reboot: http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/
Linux: Visit the Heimdall Website and install the packages for your distribution: http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/
Windows: Put your device into Download mode, install this driver and reboot. http://android-casual.googlecode.co...ALcore/src/CASUAL/resources/heimdall/CADI.exe

Truly an honor working with you Adam

Greetings,
I haven't had a chance to use JOdin3 yet. I am super excited and hoping it will help get my bootloader unlocked. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get there after taking the Dec 20th OTA. The forums seemed pretty barren for those with bootloaders still locked =/. Plus, the Note 2 is old enough now that I am guessing support is falling off.
Just a two, hopefully helpful comments:
It appears the JOdin3 link on the bottom of the post on the homepage has a typo. It is currently "jodin.casual-dev.com" which 404s.
Another smaller but possibly still important issue is: the link on casual-dev.com to this post "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49133090" doesn't appear to be in an <a href> tag.
Thanks for all the hard work!
Edit: I tried to follow the youtube tutorial and JOdin seems to think my pit file is corrupt. I also tried to create a pit file manually using Heimdall and still had no luck. I suspect it is due to me having taken 4.3 OTA (I605VRUEMJ9). I was able to get root using safe root ("Based on the CVE-2013-6282 exploit by cubeundcube"), not sure if that helps. Also not sure if it's relevant but, while I can get recoveries installed but, on reboot phone complains and i have to flash stock to continue.
I had to lit. download odin for every flash... this should end the days for that. Great! thanks @AdamOutler and team. A compatible odin, I wonder how this works with models like galaxy wonder etc.
Thanks for your hard work. So is Odin opensource ? How did you accessed to download mode protocol ? Really interesting..
Hey guys, nice work. Now I once thought about something like that, too, but I had another idea: Maybe it would be somehow possible that you don't need to download a firmware but just paste a download link or something like that in jodin3 to flash it. Just a crazy idea
Gesendet von meinem SM-N9005 mit Tapatalk
I use a Mac and only heimdall is available on it. It was very difficult to use and odin was not compatible with it. But now with JOdin3, I can easily root and flash my devices. A huge thanks to all the developer team.

No way, but Heimdall is an >90% perfect implementation of download mode.
It also requires manually matching partition image filenames to partition IDs or (in the official GUI version) loading a package -- both require a little manual work to convert from Odin format: this tool is an alternative UI that does the conversion on the fly!
first of all HAPPY NEW YEAR TO @AdamOutler

Its exactly what it sounds like. You go to a website and flash your phone. If you want, you can download the app and use it like that.
The difference: This works on Windows, Linux and Mac. This works from a website or a download. This will auto-install drivers on all platforms except Mac ( @Benjamin Dobell needs a Mac Developer ID signer). This is a self-contained single-file executable. This provides better errors and will troubleshoot and fix problems for you. This is a single file rather than multiple ones. This provides way more detailed logs rather than a simple failure like Odin. And its open source.
Its not all roses though.. This can only flash a single device per-start-button-press and not 8 like Odin. Heimdall also has a problem with extremely large files like Note III system images.

What an accomplishment! Brilliant work guys!
As a Ubuntu-Linux user I was waiting for an easier solution for flashing our Samsungs. This will be awesome. Thank you for the fantastic work.
I have an updated Ubuntu system with:
java version "1.7.0_25"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.3.12) (7u25-2.3.12-4ubuntu3)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)
But upon launching JOdin3 I get this message:
"This application requires a newer version of the Java runtime"
Is this a known problem?
(I'd prefer not to install the Oracle version ... if this is indeed a solution for this, hopefully temporary, problem)
Thank you so much.
