Help my nexus become a phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello guys,
I have bought my galaxy nexus yesterday and it is working really great. But to my dismay,it has almost non-existant speaker volume.I don't know about my incoming messages and I miss all my calls because I cannot hear the phone ringing. This phone is running stock jelly bean 4.1.2
Now my question is probably already answered in this forum, but I get confused with so many solutions.I am willing to root, unlock and what not if someone can give me the correct instructions.I just want my phone to have audible speaker volume for sms, calls, movies and songs.
I would prefer that my phone remains as stock as possible so I can recieve the OTA updates too,so please avoid telling me solutions that involve custom roms.If custom rom is the only solution tell me how to have ota updates too.
Thanks in advance

without knowing how loud it is, it is possible there is something wrong with the speaker. you should verify that it is functioning properly before rooting it and playing with custom roms. Mine is currently stock and volume is great imo

Thank you for your reply, really appreciated.
Well I can't think of a way to accurately describe how loud it is,lets say I have the loudest ringtone that I play both on my neo v and nexus. It makes me jump when it rings on neo v.But on nexus its like a whisper,
About playing with custom roms,I specifically said in my original post, that I don't actually want custom rom solution.I wanna stay stock for ota updates

Why not root and install a custom recovery(or boot it) flash the volume fix and see if that helps?

Hi, I got a G2 yesterday =] I have a couple of questions.
I rooted my phone and put the cyanogen rom on it and it works fine but i dont understand whats so great about it. I liked the Stock one better. So I wanted to know whats the best rom out right now.
Another question is how do i properly Unroot the phone if i want it dead stock again? I didnt think about unrooting before i rooted =/.
Aaaaaand my last question. I want to have music controls on my locked screen so i can just hit the lock button once and be able to control the music. Is that possible?
Thats it for now. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

1. cm has settings and more control over what the phone does. go back to stock if you like - try enomther's official (search for it)
2. read the wiki on how to unroot your phone. (seach for it - or look up)
3. music controls in cm settings....
4. search before you post your next question.
Dang fast reply. My bad. and thanks a lot.
I would try a sense ROM it makes Android way better in my opinion. Stock is great and all but it all depends on what you like :]

Are you running a stock ROM or a custom? If you're running custom, which ROM?
The stock one still E29.

Oh, not sure on that, I don't know how much control you have over a stock ROM but since you're rooted there might be some apps in the market for volume control.. If you are intent on remaining with GB for awhile you might look into a few GB custom ROMs that might help the volume issue.
Check out Rujelus22's Blu Kuban for Gingerbread, also Calkulin's GB ROM and PhantomHacker's Blazer ROM which seems to be real popular with the GB crowd.
Thank you. I want to put cm9 on here as my first room to try. Think that might help?

It might but be sure and do your homework. Read both cm9 threads thoroughly. There's one here in the general forum and of course the one in the Developer's forum and always ask questions before you take any step you are unsure of.

Speaker volume is very low in Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean

Hello Guys,
Can you guys please go to the following link and star that problem, to see if Google can do something about correcting this issue.
this low volume is the biggest complaint about staying stock.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35084
Why not just use Franco kernel and use volume boost... I just hate filing complaints.
-tapped from my paradigm Franco kernel Galaxy nexus
I have the same problem with a nexus galaxy with jellybean 4.1.1
I found a soluction in web that talk of change a string in system\build.prop
"ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps=" and change its value to 10.
But my problem is that in my build.prop the string there isn't.
How i can solve the low volume on my nexus?
Volume+ (volume boost) don't work, it crash at start
Bump!
If any of you guys have time, please Star that topic.
I know it can easily be fixed via rooting the device or what not.
But i'm kind of over the whole rooting scene in a way and just want to stay stock.
but it bugs me that if my nexus is in my pocket or if im not in a quiet room i can barely hear anything.
i also emailed the google play support team, hopefully they will reply.
i've owned way too many google devices for them to just ignore us like that.
best believe if this issue is not resolved via software update, sad to say but i will be switching over to ios.
reply back from Google Play.
I guess they cant do anything about it.. This sucks.
Hi JC,
Thanks for your response back. I can understand how annoying it can be to
experience low volume on your phone device and having to wait for the
development team to come out with an OTA to fix the issue. Unfortunately,
this information isn't available to us since it's being handled by the
Android development team. I recommend you report the issue directly to the
development team. Here's how you can report platform bugs:
http://developer.android.com/support.html
There is also a chance that the issue might be something Samsung might be
able to either repair or perform a replacement for; depending on how long
you've had your device. If you'd like, you're welcome to give us a call
and we can see if this will help. I'm providing a link to our click to
call below:
http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/request.py?contact_type=contact_policy&policy=hardware
If you have any other questions or concerns, please reply back to this
email and I'll be happy to help further.

Jay

If you are just referring to Music / Video audio volume you might want to check out this app.. I haven't tried it.. I'm running CM10 which sounds great...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost&hl=en
I can understand the stock mentality but with a couple adjustments you will get a better than stock - stock experience...
Personally If I wanted to stock-ish, I would flash the stock rom, root, install trinitystable35 kernel, install trickster mod, adjust headphone volume only and then set superuser to deny any root attempt by default without a prompt...

If you wanted to add that to your build.prop, you could download Build Prop Editor from the Playstore, create a key named ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps, and give it the value 10. At your own risk, of course.
Do they even test this stuff? It's beyond unacceptable to have a speaker this inaudible. Makes me want to throw my phone every time I try to watch a video.
I added my two cents to the link.

Download to computer. Extract with 7zip. Move entire media folder to sd and replace/merge current media folder. Might get warning staying device cannot play some files. Ignore. They work.

Weird. I have better than average volume on everything and haven't modified anything other than putting CM10. Might it be a specific version?

i have updatet to 4.1.2, still the same Problem, shame on google, that's a basic functionality !!! i have tried everything ... it's on ebay now
A simple app from a Play Store does wonders, if you don't want to unlock your phone.

Cyanogenmod is the Way...
I also has got version 4.2.1 and I stock ROM is just fine for me, I never liked CM, but I have got root. A have got problem with volume too, do not hear SMS in my pocket at all.
I did not find the solution, Volume+ boost app still do not work with JB (hopefully will work soon) and Speaker Boost still "stop working", even the old versions.
So, do you know any other solution?
JB 4.1.1 Low volume issue resolved - at lease for me
i had the same issue when i upgraded my stock S3 to 4.1 -- the speaker volume was very low in Nav and music players.
Increasing the "Media" volume fixed it for me.
click on the volume button (up or down) and then click on the settings icon at the end of the slider. Now slide the "Media" volume to the highest.
Everything is back to normal -- in nav audio and speaker phone etc.
If you have not already tried this, you can give it a try ... it might fix it!

I have upgraded to cm10.1 with jb 4.1.2.....I did the nightly builds for 01-02-2013...
the volume is horrendous.... even worse than stock. I don'tknow what else to try. hopefully it will be fixed in the next night builds......full speakerphone volume soundslikeit's coming from the headsetat full volume.... and the headset volume at full is barely audible even in s quiet room. I turned on the boost in strings but it did nothing. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

also....just curious.... is it normal fir cm10 to take up about 6gb of internal memory? I tried clearing everything out buteven after a clean install that is what it takes up.

[Rom][Kernel] [Firmware]at&t i747 2 way call recording

Hello everyone im new but iv been using the site for about 2 years. So for the past 2 years iv gotten all my answers from reading but this issue has me stumped and i see so many different people working on it. So can anyone tell me the best way to go about getting my phone to record calls. when i had ics it worked fine but only recorded one side of the call but i was able to get by with that. it would be nice to have both sides but idk if this phone is even capable of it? so when it was working on ics i used third party software now that my phone updated to 4.1.1 none of the apps work but it see i now have the option in the dial-er , i downloaded the root media scanner to stop the error but it still doesn't record. so should i go back to a ics rom and look for a kernel that will record both sides and use third party software or should i use a jellybean rom with the new dial-er record built into it. it also has the settings options to automatically record all incoming and outgoing but it wont work on my stock rom or kernel? also i would like to overclock and i dont think my stock kernel will support that either. im rooted with cwm recovery installed. has anyone Finely gotten to the bottom of this issue?

[Q] ║ Handset Sound Problem - WFS ║

Hi all,
I just realize that my phone's sound is too low while I was talking with somebody. I can't hear the people who talks with me on phone. I have to use speaker to hear them. When I get on the bus and if someone is calling me, I feel the hell I'm using infrarom now and I tried others (cyanogen etc.)
Handset sound is better on infrarom. What do you suggest me to do? Is there any rom with good handset sound quality?
Another problem is touch menu buttons are not working. Is there any setting to turn it on? Or any rom suggestions for it? Otherwise I will begin to sorrow for that

our phone has already low sound
but if you think your phone's sound is very low change rom.
and about touch buttons it possibly rom problem..so i advised you to install stock rom for while to check that your phone has software issues or hardware issues.
like in stock rom you will face these all problems meaning that's hardware fault..if everything good in stock rom..you good to go..then try another roms of your like:good:
