I changed mine to a sound clip that says "ouch"

What exactly does it modify?
I'd like to include it in a ROM release, credits to you of course, but I'm curious what it alters...

it alters the sound file in /system/media/UI/
believe it's an .ogg file, all the UI sounds for your device are found in there, you can modify/cut mp3's, convert them, then name them the same as the the one you are trying to replace and there you have it, a new UI sound for the same function.

Nope .. it is the seccontacts.apk that sound comes from ..
None of the /system/media/UI sounds is for the keypad sound
That would be to easy ...

^yeah, this.
Trust me, I tried everything to remove that crap on my old releases. I had a feelign it was in Sec_Contacts.
Why not make the change a flashable zip instead? If its just for UVDLJA, it'd be much more simple to release the modified Sec_Contacts, would it not?

Well this does the same thing .. just uses adb
It replaces the apk sets permissions and reboots phone.
So I guess both would be ok. This way is more fun!

haha, yeah, I just ran it and saw how it worked.
Regardless of the method, thank you for the work!

Well I stand corrected... I guess that makes sense that the app itself would have its own sounds included within the apk... just like any other app!

By the way, didn't work for me (stock JB). It replaced SecContacts but it was no longer present in the drawer and trying to install it via rootexplorer only failed.

Pretty sure its deodexed. Many of us wont be able to use this because we are using custom roms.
I know you can reodex, but im betting most wont bother with new releases every day.
If I may, id suggest making a deodexed flashable that the devs can use in their roms. If they apply any mods to the contacts app, and then someone flashes your mod, itll revert the other back to stock. If a dev mods yours instead, then the users get the best of both.
I would like to try yours, except two things, im always deodexed, and I never connect to the computer unless I have to use Odin. Almost everything else can be done either on device, or through wireless.
Nothing against what youve done though, so please dont take it as anything more than suggestion. It is always cool to show different ways of getting things done! I just think a lot more people could enjoy this if it were deodexed and recovery flashable.
Whatever you decide, good job on this! Ive been wanting to do the same ever since I got this thing, I just keep getting involved in too many other things!
Cant stand water drops when dialing! :what:

Sorry...I wasnt very clear.
I flashed the beep hack... THEME went away but had the beep hack sound. Reflashed the theme, but the beep hack sound stayed and had the theme came back. Wish there was a way to try it out.... but I have the beep hack sound on the phone. There a way to get the waterdrop sound back then i can test it out

I'm a little confused to what this mod does or why its necessary. If I understand correctly it removes the water droplet sound from the dialer. I don't have that sound because I turned it off in settings. Can't you just turn the sound off in settings?

You're welcome, and I responded to you in that thread, its slightly different since you are using sense roms.
kkz thanks i reply back on the other thread
its a sense rom so you have to have the sound named SPC_animation_final(.mp3) and it goes into system\customize\resource.

[MOD] Phone.apk without increasing ring - KL1

Hey guys, I'm back!!
Sorry it took me so long to return, I was busy enjoing the summer... and that comes with a price as well... juggling work and vacation. It's been crazy with me at work as well so that didn't really help...
Anyways, for those who don't know me, I did the non increasing ring mod for the Galaxy S i9000, and now I'm here to do the same for the SGS II. My previous work is found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759537
Info:
Get rid of the increasing ring when someone calls you. As long as I can remember, most samsung phones had this "feature" where when you receive a call, the ringtone will gradually fade in to the volume that you have set. This mod will get rid of that annoying fade-in and allow your ringtone to play at the volume that you set it to!
REMEMBER~! Your phone needs to be deodexed for this to work!!! Also, this mod is version specific! Only use the modified APK with the same deodexed ROM. You have been warned.
Instructions:
MAKE SURE your firmware is deodexed and you are using the right fix to the proper firmware!!
1. Put the phone into "Flight Mode" either by holding power while the device is on and selecting Flight Mode from the submenu, or by selecting Flight Mode from the Settings menu.
2. Use a terminal, or root explorer, or any app you want to copy Phone.apk to /system/app/. Make sure the file is Phone.apk instead of phone.apk. Some people copied it as phone.apk (lowercase P), so make sure its Phone.apk. --(If you still get a FC, don't worry, just proceed to step 3.)
3. Reboot the phone.
OR
if the file has CWM in it, just use CWM!
-YG007
Update:
Here is the latest mod for XWKK5, CWM!!
Update: 12.17.2011
Here is the latest mod for XXKL1, CWM!!
Enjoy!!
Hi, thanks for your work.
is it a multi-DPI version ? (principaly for the dialer during a call)
odex version KH3
Install via CWM
EDIT: Removed.
thanks a lot man
Thanks man.
But what if I want to do the opposite:
I have a ROM in which the ring is not increasing, and I want it to be increasing?
When I'm at work I don't want the phone to make too much noise while ringing,
and I usualy answer pretty quickly, before the sound gets louder.
In case I don't hear it, it will become stronger in a few seconds...
Can I just copy a Phone.apk from a ROM that has't passed this modification?
Where can I find such a deodexed KH3 Phone.apk?
Does it have to be deodexed?
Thanks.
Hi. I know that you'll say I am an idiot but stock rom is deodexed, right?

EDIT: Silly me... Odexed Phone.apk does not that fix because it is untouched Samsung's official,
hence it has this rising ring feature already.
Right...?
Thank you very much, was waiting for this mod for many weeks
Worked like a charm with manual method.
Thx for your work, YG007 !

Hacked FM radio?

A couple of roms have a hacked fm radio that works on low battery and without the headphones.. any separate APK. That can we download and install. (Or flash )?
You need modified services jar not an apk

I got it to work with the help of Pmtr3 dev and simplelife for the awesome beats . Awesome beats didn't make any difference in sound until I added bravia engine into system/etc and buildprop edit. it definitely makes my phone sounds better.
This is what I did to get it to work on Cmenards rom.
I downloaded Pmtr3s jedi x rom. Using root explorer, extract Be_photo & be_video from system/etc then copy those 2 files and paste it in system/etc(make sure you change permission on both of the files). Then extract build.prop, look for the two lines
ro.service.swiqi.supported=true
persist.service.swiqi.enable=1
Copy that and paste it in your build.prop.
save and reboot.
maybe other ppl will have a better and easier way to get it to work but thats how I got mine to work. if you need more help, pm me. I'm a noob at this , so what I explained my be confusing .
Thank you for the help. I copied those two files and modified build.prop and changed permissions. There must be something else missing. Is there another build.prop for beats maybe?
On a side note, how do I confirm bravia engine is actually working?

[MOD] Remove Location Icon ( UPDATE: 12/17/2013)

Since there was not one posted i decided to post a Remove Location Icon flashable zip file for those who just decide to stay stock de-bloated.
The update script is by andybones, and i modified the apk.
This will work with stock, and deodex, roms as long as you have no other modifications are made in the systemUI.apk
I also included the stock file as well.
Flash in recovery and wipe the dalvik-cache, reboot, SUCCESS !
There are Three files. The Remove_Location.zip will work for both odex and deodex roms.
For odex roms it deletes the odex file and replaced it with a deodex version. It will work just fine don't stress out about it....
The other two are stock deodex and stock odex. If you want to go back make sure you use the right one!
UPDATE(12/17/2013): I added the 2.10.605.1 update mod..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48592241&postcount=31
UPDATE(11/21/2013): I added the .15 update mod as the systemUI.apk is not the same for that update .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47683138&postcount=28
UPDATE(10/16/2013): I Fixed the code so as the Beats icon is not " floating in space " as someone so put it.
Please read here before flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46812076&postcount=24

I corrected this problem, and the code is now fixed !
Is it still a blank icon that just now AFTER the Beats icon, or is it really space freed up for other notifications?
I don't have that behavior myself on my device after flashing as seen in the posted screenshot. Anyone else ?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
Edit:
Note that even though the modification to the systemUI.apk smali code should set the icon to a with of zero, the actual location of those icons are in the same file
Those were technically removed on my first attempt, which yielded the blank space between the beats icon and 4G symbol or whatever else. That b/c I didn't take into account the smali code in systemUI.apk
Now on my device theI just applied the systemUI.apk modification which just set the width of the ' clear ' location icon to zero which made the space disappear. I have tested this several times by replacing the original systemUI.apk and systemUI.odex files and then re-flashing the modified one and it functions as shown in the OP screenshot.
I also compared the MD5 checksum with the one I flashed vs the one I downloaded from here in case i accidentally messed up and they are identical.

I was going to say, that those status bar mods are not stock
The SystemUI.apk holds some of the icons for the statusbar, and the systemUI.apk hold the codes that control the blank space between the 4G icon and the beats icon that is where the blank space was.
Those are the files that were modified by me, the first being accidental leaving the space between the beats icon and the 4G symbol, and the later resolved the space
Either way, I had the space previously with your first mod and flashed the updated zip and the space is gone. Thanks for the fix!

I like the clcok and battery mods there. I wish there was an easy way to do that while keeping the stock ROM. there's no custom ROMs for this phone yet that I've fallen in love with. Bone Stock was good for a While, but even that one I found myself going back to true stock ROM and just debloating it myself.
