Working WiFi Tether for ROOT Users on the Razr M - Droid RAZR M General

So... I've been fooling around for the last 2 weeks on the JB leak trying to find a wifi hotspot app that works. I am rooted and it was still a task to find something that works. I finally have.
"WiFi Tether for Root Users" works but only with the settings set to Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) under settings>change device profile> Generic ICS/JB (wlan0).
FoxFi does not work.
Setting the entitlement check to 0 under SQLite and whatnot does not work.
Countless other apps do not work.
This wifi tether works with an XBOX so if you have 4G signal you can play online. I tried setting up USB tethering to my pc and then bridging the connection to my LAN card and kept getting an MTU error... So I tried this and it works. Currently playing Halo 4 with a 50ms ping and 30Mb/s Down and 25Mb/s Up.
As for rooting I used the "motofail2go" root exploit from someone, but you needed to go to the ASOP and download the 4.1 su and superuser.apk and replace the files in the folder so the root works correctly. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I've uploaded the right zip with the correct su and superuser.apk for the root on the JB leak for the Razr M.
I have a Locked Bootloader - Razr M with the original unlimited data plan. no tethering/hotspot 20$/month addon.

Is this intended to get around the native mobile hotspot app? Mine just turns on and turns off.

This thread says otherwise, OP (concerning changing the entitlement check)

How to know if unrevoked 3 root was successful?

I just went thru with the root process and my phone is now back on (after a big scare). What is a way that I can see if the root successfully worked? I just tried to hotspot to my computer and it picked up the wifi signal but was local only and would not connect, therefore making me think the root was unsuccessful. I have heard with root on the htc evo that you get the mobile hotspot feature for free. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot
Sprint's mobile hotspot feature will not work for free if you are rooted. You will have to download a wireless tether app to get a free wireless hotspot. Many custom ROMs already include a wireless tether app.
And you probably don't need to start multiple threads with the same issue.

[Q] Tethering issues. Please Help!

I hope I am posting this correctly. If not please forgive me in advance. My Evo (3.7 update) is rooted with Unrevoked and all Superuser permissions are intact. All my "root required" apps work correctly. My problem is that tethering will not stay connected, wired or wirelessly. I can connect and have internet access for about 5 minutes, then I lose internet connectivity although the phone shows still app running. I did not flash any specific roms, only rooted the phone because I'm okay with everything else on the phone. I have tried pdanet, easy tether, barnacle wi fi tether, and plain wifi tether. I have tried tethering different devices and still can stay connected for no more than 5 minutes. I then have to close the tethering app and restart to get another 5 minutes. Did Sprint enable something in 3.7 update that's causing this? I never had this issue on my rooted Hero. And finally, I am not in a 4g area so I'm doing this all 3g. Can anyone please assist me. I was almost tempted to pay the 30 bucks until I came to my senses!

[Q] How to evade tethering block on note 2?

Hey guys.
I'm a proud owner of a nice Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone.
I'm in the UK, pay monthly with 3 mobile.
I've rooted my phone, but the rom is still the stock one (I'm not exactly an expert and so I don't really want to mess around with it with my noobhands, the phone is costing me loads already).
After a lot of pain and sweat I managed to get USB tethering working through PDANet 3.50 with level 1 tether hiding.
Without ticking the hide option, or using any other app, or using the stock tether options, a second after connecting with my laptop (windows 7), I can't surf the internet, I immediately get redirected to 3's tether block site that tells me off, both on the laptop and the phone.
Question is simple, how to get around this? I mean get wifi tethering work without 3 knowing it.
I tried:
most wifi tethering apps on the market, rooted and nonrooted
the stock wifi tethering options, both wifi and bluetooth
changing the user string in my browser
I'm not on The One Plan, sadly, I would love to be, but I didn't know it's the only one with tethering allowed. And because I'm in a contract, I can't do anything either. 3's tethering addon is more than unreasonable - 5 pounds for 1GB. Ridiculous.
Thanks!
Dan
Edit1: Certain sites trigger the tether block and I have to restart the phone or turn on flight mode for some seconds few seconds after I visit them
bump
I found that flashing a custom rom and then activating wifi hot spot the tethering worked fine on my plan which was text 500 on 3 with 5 pound Internet add on which didn't allow tethering and got that blocking page before I did the custom rom I just used in the built in tethering no apps

I found a simple solution that worked for me on Orange UK, might work on other networks too. You will need to create a new APN and copy over all the settings from your default access point (you can't edit the default). Near the bottom of the APN settings there is an option "APN type" - mine was set to "default, supl". Add "dun" to the end of this list e.g. "default, supl, dun" and select this as the default access point.

[Q] WiFi Tether for Root Users

Anyone confirm that WiFi Tether for Root Users works on our handset (or any recommendations for Wi-Fi router) or will T-Mobile still block it?
Would prepaid make a difference? I only plan to use it on rare occasions but so far I'm not using anywhere near my 5GB of 4G unlimited data as I generally have access to fast fiber Wi-Fi..
- Thnx

Use my ROM, you don't have to worry about using a 3rd party app !

I am currently on the T-Mobile unlimited data plan (no paid hotspot add on is even available) and after quite a bit of messing around with my phone this is how I was able to get wifi hotspot working.
1.) Root your phone - http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-note-ii-xda-developer-tv/
2.) Freeze tethering provision using Titanium Backup Pro (available in Play Store)
3.) Download TrevE’s modded wifi tether app for root users http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35476525
4.) Download Hotspot Shield VPN from Play Store
*When tethering to my Asus Transformer, all I need to do is activate the hotspot and it works flawlessly. If you want to tether to your laptop or Xbox 360, you need to active the VPN first, then start the hotspot (if you do not start the VPN first you will be brought to the dreaded T-Mobile upsell page on your PC and your Xbox 360 will not be able to download anything or connect to Xbox Live). The VPN stops T-Mobile from packet sniffing, which is what causes the upsell page to being with.
Thanks JB910, I will try those steps when I get a chance but was planning this easier wireless root method instead since my handset still has the pre T889UVALL4 OTA update Exynos exploit. Also just out of curiosity yesterday I tried Hotspot Shield VPN to run alongside FoxFi which did not work as it still brought the T-Mobile page but I did run a where's my IP & it was a South Korean IP, everyone trusts Hotspot Shield VPN when it's needed (nice to read not in all use cases but still many or most cases)?
I would likely only use it rarely as a backup on PCs-tablets but am now more motivated to root if this proves workable.. - Thnx

I simply downloaded TreVee mod and changed a few settingswithin the app and it worked fine... Didn't freeze anything or need to download hotspot shield

Thanks for the screenshots as it seems you had used WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2 (defaults to Wifi Driver Reload 2) - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390208427046731813 instead of 1. I'll report back if it works for me too when I get the chance.
"There are 2 options in settings with mild enhancements

-Wifi-Driver Reload 2 - Driver reload outside of tether script. Similar to 11/18 version"

haha omg thanks so much I've been trying to figure all that out for myself
So with the help from you I was able to get it working as follows:
1) I rooted according to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37188698&postcount=28
2) Installed WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2 (defaults to Wifi Driver Reload 2) - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390208427046731813 with settings changes as outlined at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35476525 & attached thumbnails at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37109011&postcount=7 . . Once I checked the boxes next to connected authorized clients as shown in last thumbnail (after putting in Wi-Fi passwords on devices) I was able to connect 5 handy devices simultaneously (Cr-48 Chromebook, Windows Notebook, EVO 4G, someone's iPhone & iPad). Interestingly I was able to browse websites on the two notebooks running full speedtests & checking sites for about 10-20 min non-continuously before getting the http://offers.t-mobile.com/tethering/upsell.do?source=redirect which I don't think I can even add to my prepaid plan. At this point I had to run Hotspot Shield VPN to continue browsing with the notebooks at 10% speeds (mobile devices like EVO 4G & iOS devices did not need Hotspot Shield VPN to continue so could I try to changing desktop client settings in Chrome or Firefox to avoid use of Hotspot Shield VPN?? that http://whatismyipaddress.com identified this time as ISP: nLayer Communications Organization: GIGLINX Services: Suspected Network Sharing Device City: Torrance Region:California rather than South Korea when first tested Hotspot Shield VPN or T-Mobile USA when off).
Again I don't plan on abusing this rather using it as a backup on occasion as I usually have access to fast fiber Wi-Fi. Will T-Mobile further make this an issue assuming I don't abuse this on my prepaid account? -Thnx

Ok, so before I got the dreaded message telling me that tmobile knew i was tethering and made me pay for a new play that included tethering.
Are you guys saying that being rooted, I can change my plan to the unlimited, and even though tethering is not allowed, I can still do it and never worry about going over my 5gb and being throttled?

if your unlimited why are you worried about the 5GB throttle? your post is confusing... But yes you can tether without T-mobile knowing..

What I meant was, can I switch to unlimited, and even though they do not offer tethering, do it anyways so I do not have to keep my current 5gb plan that I always go over.

I thought so, I was just threatened by a tmobile rep that they would catch me lol. I am upgrading my plan to the unlimited now. Is there a simple way to do it?
If you run through a vpn they can't. It encrypts your data so they can't packet sniff.

[Q] Wifi tether without verification?

I have a T-Mobile Note 3, still using the stock rom but I have rooted it. My question is there any way to wifi tether that does not "verify" tethering status with T-Mobile?
When starting up the built in hot-spot or FoxFi a popup comes up and tethering is verified with T-Mobile.
I know, I know, T-Mobile comes with X amount of free tethering. I have 2.5 gigs of free tethering and I never go over it. However, I'm going to Mexico for two weeks and T-Mobile has unlimited free international data but no tethering. I assume the "verify" step is going to stop me from tethering.
What rooted app will allow wifi tethering for the Note 3 that does no verification with T-Mobile? I've already tried 10 wifi tether apps from the market place and none of them work on the Note 3.
Bumping as I have a similar question. With Jellybean I just froze the provisioning apk and this worked. In Kitkat doing this causes force closes.
I have a Tasker task that turns on the hotspot when my radio connects to my phone via Bluetooth. This works fine if the screen is on, but the point is to have this happen automatically. If I have to take my phone out of my pocket and make sure the screen stays on, I might as well just turn on tethering manually. The task does run as I have verified that the other parts of the task run while the screen is off.
I'm pretty sure that all the info to address this is in a thread that I just bumped a minute or 5 ago.
I figured it out. At least for my situation. I have tethering and I wasn't trying to bypass any limits. I just wanted to enable tethering without the screen being on. I modified the framework-res APK to not call the provisioning APK and froze the Tethering*.apk files.
I tried to attach the file but it is not working. I will try again later.
framework-res.apk
I also added Bluetooth tethering option.
Can you give us the link daneurysm ? Thanks!
