This phone has been silky smooth and gobbled up everything I've thrown at it. I was shocked at how much faster it is than my Nexus 7, and certainly faster than my Skyrocket.
The only thing that drives me nuts about the processor is the wake lag every time I turn it on from deep sleep. I'll learn to live with it, but this phone would be almost perfect if that were fixed (not including software tweaks).

Yea well reducing the processor to that low of a clock speed is partly responsible for the crazy ass battery life of this phone. I'd rather have another millisecond of unlock time and gain several hours of battery life. Fine with me.

i dunno about that... the Snapdragon S4 Pro is quite a beast... it's technically faster than this exynos...
i bet it comes down to software and how well it works with the hardware

Look at the Engadget review of the Nexus 4. The note 2 (exynos) beat the snapdragon s4 pro in 4/6 benchmarks and they felt like the exy was better in normal use and battery efficiency. Just look up Nexus 4 review on engadget- Nexus 4,Optimus G, note 2 are all compared. Look at the benchmark table. Note 2 wins 4/6.

I love the power and speed of my note.... But seriously, benchmarks mean nothing to me. It's real life usage that matters. . Not an app that measures potential.

I've never seen any huge advantage of the Exynos processors over any others, mainly because they are just stock ARM designs. If Samsung wanted to impress me, they would pay for an architecture license. The A6 is pretty hard to beat, given the performance AND battery life, and I really like my S4 Pro, although it is a bit of a juice hog.

The exynos is a heavily modified arm design, and apples a6 is very very similar to it.

That's why you see iphones perform very well despite the specs looking like they are lacking. The iphone 5 after playing with it is just as fast as my Note 2 but it's only dual core and clocked much lower. RAM is also lower.

Pretty sure the reason the a6 is as smooth or smother with lower specs is due to software optimization and the fact it uses 3 core gpu ( which everyone seems to leave out when they make these statements). That is where apple has done good.

How long of a lag are you talking about? Are you sure it's not the home button lag from S Voice being enabled?

One area Apple has excelled in is GPU performance. I'm surprised Samsung doesn't push the limits in this area harder. I don't play games much myself but as you said it goes beyond just playing your favorite games on a phone.

exynos is king right now (i'm ignoring apple, since it's not apples-to-apples, excuse the pun). exynos 5 is going to be ridiculous. actually it already is, inside the samsung chromebook.

Normally id say cant wait for the note 3 with the quad xenyos 5, but im happy with the note 2, and I hope they wait a year before releasing it. No more 6 month life cycles please

No, not even close. A6/A6X are heavily modified ARM, and Exynos is just tweaked stock. Samsung doesn't have the architecture license, last I checked. Apple does.

So I bought a Galaxy Nexus earlier today...

...and I might return it. I really am not terribly impressed with it. ICS is cool and all but I would much rather have a bone stock ICS ROM running on my Epic Touch. My biggest complaint about it, besides how narrow the screen is, is that games just don't run nearly as smooth on it as they do on the E4GT. I know it has a weaker GPU, but I didn't realize it wasn't powerful enough to run Riptide GP without dropping frames all the time. Pretty disappointing, TBQH. Verizon has an extended buyers remorse period because of the holidays. I am going to hang on to it till Jan 14th and give it a serious chance but so far it's not looking good.
edit: Oh yeah, I HATE how the home/back/tasks soft keys persist even when playing games. That's the main reason why I returned my Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus, and I can't tell you how disappointed I am that they are still there in ICS.
Such a shame that the Galaxy Nexus is such a let down. My friend has one so I played around with his for an hour or so. There was some choppiness during transitions here and there. Only reason I'd pick it over an Epic Touch is because it's a Nexus device. But since it's not available for Sprint it's not a phone I'd buy.
It has the gpu of the galaxy s1, that may explain why it doesn't hum like our phone. The ti processor is very good, perhaps >= exynos but the gpu kills it.
Only thing I love is the screen (except that the on screen buttons can't be toggled) and ICS, seems like the colors are more real. In every other aspect, I have to go with the S2 (minus the tmo and skyrocket variants)

I played around with my coworker's GNex and I think its nice and all, but......
I can't stand the lack of search button and the lack of a menu button. I felt like I was using a Pre or iPhone, I couldn't find out where the flippin' options were easily (I know that most have a little menu button in the top corner, but that's not apparent to me). Try to get to settings quickly? you can't without finding that app for settings. I also found it pretty laggy compared to my E4GT.
I do like the core app GUI changes, however. Very nice. The phone itself though....meh.

You guys do realize the iphone does not utilize 4G so the processor can be the same across the board. However, android phones do use 4G and not all networks are created equal (ex: HSPA+ FOR T-mo). Hence, the different specs.

The 4 is an A2 CPU and idk what gpu its running. The 4s is running an A3, is dual core, and beefier gpu. The iPad 1 and iPhone 4 use the same CPU, that's why there are jailbreaks available for them. IPad 2 and iPhone 4s share the same CPU. Its speculated its clocked higher on the pad. There also isn't a jailbreak for the A3 powered devices. There's no difference in hardware between the carriers of the same model phone. All 4 are the same and all 4S are the same.
I had a 4S for a couple of months on sprint before coming back to Android. I did some homework before and during owning the phone too.
I understand aosp is different than touchwiz. One alternative I could suggest is to get the et4g. Root, recovery and no ciq it after updating to ek02. After that, run sprint id and choose the clean pack. That is a bare bones setup, stockish launcher, and no touchwiz. Then go into the system/app directory and do something like add ".old" to the end of the apk of the bloatware and touchwiz crap. Now you have a pseudo asop looking ROM with the bloat rem'd out.

well Apple called .5 an amazing revolution, I'm sure samsung can get away with calling .2 a big leap haha
This could be true but based upon all the "leaked" specs that came out right up until the release of the S3, this may all be speculation.

Good lord! That would be awesome. Specs would be second to none.
And also the better build quality thing. Although the SIII gave Apple a run for its money, a better aesthetics quality build could finally put Apple to sleep (not saying that's Samsung's objective, other creating quality devices.) But I still know a few Apple fanboy stragglers who still won't switch because of the plastic quality of the S3. Maybe this will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

the thing is with the build quality of samsung and apple from what i noticed is that the plasticy feel oh the phone actually makes it more durable against hard falls compared to apples iphone with its strong firm build of the device makes it more vulnerable when it comes to hard falls because the phone is actually pressurized to the point where one little fall can cause major damage to the iphone. so from that ill take a plastic feel of a phone against iphone build quality

What's a good upgrade from this phone?

I am debating whether to buy the Nexus 4 or the Note II. Yes I admire the huge screen, and really doesn't bother me. But at the same time, the Nexus has some features that the Note II can't simply offer. Things as important as updates straight from Google, from stupid little things like the notification lights. Which one should I decide?
Well, if you get the Nexus 4, it's almost the same price outright as the Note 2 is on contract. I recently switched to Straight Talk Wireless prepaid and am using the same T-Mobile network for only $45/month. So I think the deciding factor between the two phones is whether you want to stay on a contract for another two years, or explore other options.

Don't lie. NFS most wanted does NOT play smoothly on this phone. Either that or you'e completely oblivious to framerates. It runs smoother on JB ROMs than ICS ROMs.. but even then I notice frame rates float between the low 20s to low 30s and it fluctuates ALOT. I've tried this game on around 10 ROMs or so. Even with cpu overclocks and overclocked GPU speeds.
The Note 2 stays above 40 fps at all times and doesn't drop one bit. As seen in this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyg8vTbGRX8&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And this is a video of the game playing on an exynos powered GSII, and mind you the Mali 400 GPU stomps the adreno 220 found in this phone..

my girl has the S3, and it's faster than the S3. the S3 is a helluva phone tho.
never own the s3 but the Evo lte share the same cpu/gpu. This phone blows the s4 out the water. Everything is silky smooth. I have yet to come across a game that will slow this down. My Evo struggle to play even Temple Run Brave, pretty choppy at some point but not this note 2. At first when I had the Evo I thought that maybe these certain games is not fully optimized for android but this note 2 prove it otherwise.
Regarding your comment about the apple part. Wifey have iphone 5 and ipad 3 but the same games play on my note 2 is outstanding!!!
Best battery in a phone by a long shot. Don't think I have enough proof to say this before but yep apple definitely need to watch out. I'm not a fan of any brand but a big fan of great technology and this note 2 is definitely all that and more.
Wait wait, is it even a question whether this phone is faster than the S3? The Note 2 isnt just a big S3. Were talking dual core 1.5ghz Krait vs quad core 1.6Ghz Exynos. Yeah...its faster

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Antutu and Quadrant

I got to test the SGN2 last night and i have to say, I LOVE IT! I am getting myself this phone for Christmas. Anyway enough babbling...check out these scores from Antutu and Quadrant. Blew my 3D out of the water.
I totally love this phone. Running Sleshepic's ice reborn. I don't think there's anything that comes close to this thing.

I used to root and run Roms but I feel that in some ways rooting almost shortens my phones life. I bought an Evo 3D and decided not to root and the phone runs great on stock ICS. And I do agree that this phone is topdog amongst the rest. Can't wait to get my hands on mine.

2 years ago I got myself the Evo 4g, had it stock for the 1st year (because I didn't know about rooting) then I got the samsung galaxy tab 8.9. I wanted to use the tab at work & someone mentioned rooting for free wifi tether. Best thing I ever did. I got the flashing sickness. I would sometimes flash 4 to 5 roms a day. Now I have the amazing note2. Anyway, my Evo looks brand new, rooting it didn't harm it in the least. It made it a better phone. Now it's a media device. Just my 2ยข

I had my mind set on getting the note 2 ever since I heard about it, but after watching a video on YouTube that compared the note 2 and the DNA, I'm not so sure. The video ran every benchmark that antutu has to offer and the DNA beat the note 2 in almost every test by a little. Also, the DNA has a larger resolution.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Benchnarks are relative. You dont know if its been overclocked or if one has a bunch of apps or services running. You have to look at the specs and see if its better. I ran both of these benchmarks after reading this and my phone had better results several times and worse results several times.

I think you have a point. I noticed that the note 2 has a faster clock speed on it's CPU but thought that perhaps the make of the CPU alone could make a difference in performance (Intel CPUs vs AMD CPUs for example).
In regards to resolution, has anyone seen the difference between the note 2 and the HTC DNA? I don't think the video review does a good job of showing the picture quality of each phone.

I have played with both devices and while the DNA is a nice device it does feel sluggish at times especialy when hopping in between different open programs.
As for the display, its all about user preference. I prefer the Note for the vibrant colors. The DNA seemed a little crisper but it also bothered my eyes after staring at it for awhile.

Very helpful! I tend to multitask when using my phone so i'm leaning back toward the note 2, especially since it has that multi window feature.

Um, the GN2 has an s pen. Is there any comparison?

I think you're doing yourself a serious disservice if you make your decision based on benchmark scores from either one of these apps.

I believe there is a comparison between the two phones as they are both rather large phones and leaders in performance.
I personally don't consider the s pen the note 2's defining characteristic (although I can see why some would). The s pen aside, the note 2 is a beast of a phone. I think of the s pen as an added bonus, similar to my Samsung Epic 4g's slide out keyboard.

These would be the least of the things I would use to consider a new phone. I was just running these and was suprised at the score. I've been set on this phone for a while. And if I don't get it, ill probably consider another HTC. I love the sense.

I always find myself messing with the benchmark apps of Quadrant and Antutu, it does do a good comparison. And for those who say some times it is slower and sometimes higher.. When you run a car/motorcycle on the dyno or quarter mile don't you also get higher and lower results? It may not be the most concrete comparison system but it isn't garbage.(not saying anyone in HERE called it garbage but have heard it in other places). Anyways for a 7600 score on quadrant what were you running for clock speed min max, the gpu settings etc. I noticed you were on the Venum Ice reborn ROM. it is Odexed, aren't those supposed to be faster?
Also how do the fellas on top of the Antutu boards running the Gn2 run the test at resolutions of like 720x8 and other crazy res's like that?
I had a couple real low 7k quadrant runs but they got wiped flashing ROM's and not saving it. but here's what I do have.
