Back to Stock Rom Without Odin - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

Hello, this is my first thread here. I want to share my experience using android lol. I'm a noob, so this is maybe for noob too .
If you always changing your rom only to test or whatever, you may have to go back to stock rom via Odin. So, here I will tell you how to go back to stock rom without Odin .
Click to collapse
First, you need to be on stock rom, then go to cwm, then backup your fresh stock rom.
Now, try install a custom rom with custom kernel inside it. Then you want to go back to stock rom. Follow this.
Go to your stock rom files (PDA...blabla, MODEM....blabla, CSC....blabla), and open your PDA..blabla using winrar or whatever and extract the boot.img inside it to your sdcard. DON'T PUT IT IN A FOLDER.
Next, you need to download SGYbiCWM.zip below. Then, go into cwm.
1. Wipe data then make sure that system is mounted (look at mount and storage).
2. Install zip from sdcard and choose SGYbiCWM.zip
3. Then go to backup and restore - advanced restore. And restore system, data and cache from your backup of stock rom. (Don't restore your boot.img because you may get failed to restore boot.img of your backup of stock rom.
4. Wipe data again then reboot.
5. If stuck, try reinstalling SGYbiCWM.zip from cwm then reboot.
I'm a noob, so please guide me if I'm wrong. And, sorry for bad English .

does not restore the kernel & init_rd. So SGYbiCWM does it manually.
But remember, under some kernels like MT 2.0 even SGYbiCWM does not work, so to restore a stock kernel under such circumstances you must issue the "dd" command inside SGYbiCWM manually in a root shell, or maybe as a script.
In fact, you may find a root shell script more handy than SGYbiCWM or CWM backup/restore.
instead of restoring cache you may want to wipe it. restoring sd-ext never worked here, so link2sd is problematic.
to sum up: in this menu :
, read:
the advanced nandroid restore of
boot.img kernel
cache
sd-ext
is of almost no use in this version of CWM for SGY. see attached screenies for advanced restore in CWM

Yeah, I have tried restoring stock kernel in merruk latest kernel using SGYbiCWM one day and it seems like failed/ makes me bootloop
Sorry for bad english

Hey can I use this to install the new kernel like white kernel without restoring the backup

Guys I installed cyanogenmod 7 (1.8)by whitexp successfully with white kernel 1.0.
Before installing cm7 I backed up my stock rom using cwm.
To install white kernel I used madteams cwm. Now I want to go back to stock rom from phone itself as I don't have a PC right now to use Odin.
I tried to install the stock kernel (boot.img) using sgybicwm.zip but wasn't successful.
And when I try to restore my nandroid backup through advanced restore >>restore system,
It says md5 mismatch...
Please help friends..
EDIT: got back to stock by odin..
I just did a silly thing while using odin..
First I selected all the three files and hit on start.
Everything went fine but there was no progress after that checking and files ok message that comes in left corner message box.
I waited for 10 minutes but no progress was showing on phone also, so I disconnected in between.
Well I was lucky that my phone booted up.
I tried another odin file and it worked.

yes, but maybe you want to install stock kernel (using SGYbiCWM.zip) before installing a custom kernel. then you can use the SGYbiCWM.zip to install a custom kernel in a stock kernel. Just put the custom kernel boot.img on your sdcard (not on a folder).

did you use madteam's cwm? on this method, the cwm used is cwm_bla_bla.zip, so maybe you will try using it

about your problem, the pda or modem file is on your odin flashable files and not on your cwm backup files. You just only take the boot.img from pda files. Then, you flash it manually using SGYbicwm.zip, then restore the backup from cwm. Read the post carefully

ODIN
well, being able to reflash without the help of a PC & ODIN is a huge advantage.
So I believe flashing with SGY only and w/o ODIN is the easiest way to flash. But ODIN has extra capabilities of course.

[Q] Bricked Samsung Galaxy W (GT-i8150)

I soft-bricked my galaxy and there's no way to fix it, help! Okay, this is a what happened, I installed a custom ROM which worked out perfectly well until one day all applications started force closing for apparently no reason so I reboot and got stuck in a boot loop. I can only access download mode, recovery is out of the question. I tried to flash back to stock with Odin and it "passed" but the screen was just blank. So, I removed the USB cable hoping it will work and it got stuck in another boot loop. I tried everything that I could have think of but nothing works. It seems that I'm not the only one and is common for Galaxy W devices. Please help!
Also, in the worst case how do I send it back to Samsung? I mean, I know how to but will they fix it?
Location ?

dont worry , you can just flash it again. A new stock ROM would do. Its no problem.

did you full wipe before flashing stock rom?
what stock gaming rom, it is full recovery?
you may can try:
- flashing again cwm using odin,
- if succesfull, boot to cwm, format data and cache, except system
- try reboot normally.
- if failed, format everything, except your sdcard,
- flashing stock rom using odin, (better use stock rom provided for your country), use original stock rom, not modified rom ! with size more than 350mb, its contain recovery, baseand and everything you need. of course your cwm will be replaced after. you can flash again cwm after your phone boot normally.
good luck.

When I did the ''IV. Accessing ClockworkMod Recovery'' , I tried to backup my phone, but there wasn't enough space to do it, so I pressed ''reboot'' and this happens, it goes through the samsung and galaxy w logo, but after that the screen just turns black, this happens every time when I try to turn it on. I can access the clockworkmod recovery.
I have tried to ''wipe the cache partition'', ''wipe data/factory reset'' and wipe ''dalvik cache'' but it doesn't seem to work.
What should I do, I don't want cyangenmod after this haha I just want to know if there is a way to get the phone working.
Any answers would be appreciated

Some wrong sequence there :
Forgets the steps as per attachment.
In assumption the CM9 ROM.zip is in your SD Card...
Boot to CWM
Locate the CM9 ROM using and remember the location i.e. External SD etc
Now under Advance...Format all folders clean (not the folder containing the CM9 ROM)
Wipe / Format / Cache etc = the usual
Wipe Dalvik
Fix Permission
Flash the CM9 then GAPPS
Reboot...:good:
No need to back-up once you have used CM9...you will never go back to GB
If you insist on back-up just move all your treasures in your PC 1st, best to format the SD Card then move the ROM.zip to it

[Q] How to back up stock rom ?

Hi guys,
I got my Gio back from repair, after I bricked it with ROM Manager. I have now been trying a lot of different CWM's, but none work with ROM Manager on my device. Now I have decided that I don't really need ROM Manager, but I would like to have CWM recovery, so I can back up my ROM before installing anything else, and still be able to go back to my stock rom a bit faster than the whole procedure with Odin.
My stock rom is S5660XXKTK_S5660XXKT6_S5660COVKS1_HOME.tar.md5
I have tried different versions of CWM Recovery, including this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650. Since I am on stock rom, I have installed the versions cwm-5.0.2.7-ext4+rfs-odin.tar.md5 (installed with Odin) and signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4+rfs.zip (installed from stock recovery).
In both cases I can make a backup, but I can not restore it again. Recovery fails when it is trying to format the system partition - and after that, of course it is back to Odin and the stock rom !
If this is a kernel issue, can you recommend another kernel that will work ?
Hope somebody can help me with this !
Its impossible to restore stock ROM backup from CWM . Whichever CWM u use to backup u can't restore or neither flash it so u will have to use Odin to flash stock ROM. The reason is that when u flash CM9 or any other ROM it changes ur file system to ext4 and stock ROM is RFS file system.

Thank you so much - I think I have spent 50+ hours to get this working. At least it's nice to know, that it was not me (or my telephone) that did something wrong.
Now I'm looking at Adrenaline, to see if it can become my new "standard system".

[HELP] Can't boot to recovery - Stuck from first Boot Screen

Hi Guys,
I don't really know what happened to my Note 2. I'm just browsing photos then suddenly it froze and restarted but it is stuck at the FIRST boot screen:
Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-7100.
There's 2 boot screen right?
1.) The white text on black background, 'Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-7100"
2.) Then the animated Samsung logo.
I'm stuck at the first one.
I tried to access its recovery (press and hold - volume up button, home button, power button). It just boot again to screen 1.
I can only access, Odin mode ( press and hold - volume down button, home button, power button).
I tried to flash it using Odin with official samsung rom, but no good. it still boot and stuck at the first boot screen.
What should I do to have a recovery mode? I don't mind if it's official samsung or a custom one. :crying:

Thanks a ton ! Your method worked like a charm... Was so scared that I might have bricked my phone... Successfully flashed CWM and then decided that I would never change out from CWM.
I flashed CWM and Wiped cache and then did a restore from a Nandroid Backup and .... phew.... the GN2 is back rocking !!!!:good::good::good::good:
Iv been having similar issue.. I always use odin mobile for flashing zip files or updates kernels etc. Under rom manager I can flash latest cwm recovery but then when I push power button and select reboot into recovery the phone reboots but gets stuck in a bootloop I can then boot into download mode using 3 button combo but thats all I can do. I have to reflash cf_root file which solves the problem and brings the phone back to life.. can anyone shed some light on this issue. Im paranoind about trying to boot into recovery incase it keeps happening as I dont want to have to keep reflashing. This is my current set-up

i have the same problem, do you mind please provide the solution step by step? i'm very fresh in this thing.. thanks!! :crying:
I just had this issue an hour ago. The phone, however, has been acting up for the past month. Random freeze in normal use and esp when browsing the web. I always have to hard reset the phone and it has been working until an hour ago. It was a freeze so i thought oh this BS again, and hard reset the phone. Then, the phone would be only stuck in the white "Samsung" screen... My first priority is keep all the data, so I was wondering after flashing the CWM and wipe the cach and dalvik. Is it necessary to wipe data for this to work? I do not want to lose all the data. The only thing I ask for is to get into system somehow, get all the data i need onto the SD card, and i can do whatever to my phone afterwards...
I think i'm ****ed. In odin it says no PIT partition. I found a lot of others having this issue, and Doctor says that this is called SDS (sudden death syndrome) ... It is a bad day and **** my life.

same but bigger problem ..
Hello.. I have the exact same problem but what happened with my GALAXY NOTE 2 GT-N7100 that I was charging it while suddenly a some writings in french appeared on screen and I could only click on something was written down the screen and I guess it meant to reboot the phone, I unplugged it and pressed that thing down the screen and my phone automatically restarted and froze at the 1st logo screen ( the one with black background and white writings ) .. I plugged it to odin but every time I try 2 flash a custom firmware it fails and says ( re-partition failed ) in odin... Itook it to many ppl and no one could fix it, they told me that it's ( sudden death ) but I dont think so because I think that sudden death happens automatically and the phone doesn't start at all ( mine happened after clicking on that french thing and it's stuck on 1st logo screen ) and they told me that the boot files are damaged and I the only solution is to change the mother board which will cost me about (370 $ here in Syria ).. and I can't access recovery mode to wipe dalvik and cache.. can anyone help me please ? And I couldn't understand maheshhtc way to fix this.. please help me asap...
Please help me too... I'm sorry but trying to flash CWM, I'm getting a No PIT error.... and then it fails right there
guys im trying to install CWM through ODIN, but its not working.
it says setupconnection, and after a while it shows FAILED.
im having same problem, and I know i can solve it by flashing custom recovery, but just cant do it.
any help?

thanx man... ur this post saved me a headache and a possible heartache

[GUIDE]Switch between any roms without flashing stock ....

Well I saw many people complaining that there sgy entered a bootloop after flashing a custom rom
Most of the time this is mainly because u have flashed a rom with different kernal over an existing custom rom .. this results in boot loops. To avoid this some instructions ask u to flash stockrom via Odin first... but then AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT
So here is a procedure to install roms like that vithout having to flash stock via odin
Remove and insert battery
Boot to recovery (volume up+power+home)
Clear data and cash in stock recovery
Flash cwm
In cwm go to mounts and storage
There format system and cash and data (do not format SD)
Go back and clear data and cash in cwm (just in case)
Go to mounts and storage and mount SD, system, cash and data
Now go back and choose install zip from SD
Choose roms zip file and install it
Have patience it might take 5-6 mins or even more
If u follow this method of formatting system etc u can flash any rom no matter wat from u r currently using (no need to flash stock before flashing another from )
That's it
Thank if I helped

Yeah I am sure bricked my phone while derping around with Hyperion
Then searched SD but there no Hyperion7.zip
So flashed jellyblast
then saw it was right there in SD
so again went to recovery and flashed Hyperion just clearing data and cash
Got bricked again
Realized different kernels so have to flash stock rom
But I was in bed while doing this and was not in mood to do all that
So I just tried the above procedure cause I thaught formatting all that would probabally erase kernal too
it worked
Re: Switch between any roms without having to flash stock ....
Well it worked not only for me see this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37238321
Re: Switch between any roms without having to flash stock ....
Oh another thing
Data and cash will automatically get unmounted once upon format them
Up have to take care to mount them again may be that's y it didn't work for u
In my procedure I have asked to mount them after formatting... to avoid just this

Re: Switch between any roms without having to flash stock ....
I don't have a PC for 6 month, i always do like this. During these time my device got bricked two times only and flashed stock ROM via odin with my friend's pc .this happened while playing with different kernels. And today also i changed from jb to hyperion...no problem.
and in between formating we have to mount every thing.
PRESS THAT THANKS BUTTON IF YOU THINK IT IS HELPFUL....
Yes, it really worked.
I havent tried switching from the other kernels but so far I tried it on savie's, hells' and kuro's kernel.
Works no issues m using this for a lot of time now

That is the usual method
It won't work if two roms have different kernels
That's y some devs ask u to flash stock before flashing their rom
Eg Hyperion

Dude if u were on stock rom .. u need not follow this procedure
Read the title properly
Remove u battery .. reinsert it then hold up+home+power to boot into recovery...
Wat do u mean u were on stock rom and tried this method ... u need cwm to do this
OK if it still doesn't boot into recovery
U have to flash stock via Odin
Next time read instructions properly ...
IF U R ALREADY ON STOCK ROM THERE IS NO POINT IN USING THIS METHOD
PLEEZ GUYS FOLLOW THE STEPS IN EXACT SAME ORDER OR U WILL 100% GET UR PHONE BRICKED I ASSURE U THAT ...

(Q)Installing S3Rx (From the start)

Well, first let me say this, I am a complete Noob flashing Roms and that stuff
I would like to install S3Rx (Dont want Cyanogenmod or any other roms, I just want a modified stock rom) as I am running UVUENC2 unrooted and that is the only rom with support for it. Could you please answer me this questions?
a) I have downloaded the rom already (The 4-5-14 build based on UVUENC2) how can I root and install CWM or TWRP? (Previously had an Ace S5830M)
b) Will I lose my network or something like that? Do I have to flash a modem or something like that?Do I have to make a backup of some files for having a smooth experience (I dont need to backup apps, got the phone yesterday)?
c) How can I install it correctly? Previously I just wiped cache, data and dalvik cache, do I have to make more wipes?
Well, thats it, thanks for your help
a. You Flash CWM or TWRP using Odin. Then Flash S3RX that you have downloaded. This process does not need Root. (Yeah Surprise!)
b. Don't think so. Make sure to follow all the instructions in the S3RX thread to the letter. Do make a Nandroid using CWM or TWRP you flashed. Do so before flashing S3Rx. Also make a backup of your NV Data. Search this forum for instructions to NVBACKUP.
c. You need to do Factory Reset then flash the Rom then wipe Dalvik and Cache.

Well it is way easier than I thought, thanks Perseus71! Only thing I dont like about this rom is that it is WAY too big but I can solve that in Aroma Installer. Could you please post a link for steps about how to backup NV Data or EFS Folder? The ones that I found are difficult and I want to get this done with as fast as I can.
EDIT: I found an easy tutorial made by member <:GeeK:> it is in the i747 section but it will work with the T999 right? Also, I have to restore it like he says AFTER I flash the Rom? Thanks for your help
Using Terminal Emulator enter this.
su
reboot nvbackup
Done!

I don't have root Access, I only flashed the recovery as Perseus71 told me to. I tried that in my old man's International Galaxy Note (which is rooted) and it told me an error NVBACKUP not found
The note is older and it may not be an available function. Only do this if you find confimation in a devices forum. It was tried on a Note3 and it hardbricked! Once you flash your rom you will be rooted. That's when I suggest you run this. Itll back up your nv data on-device, so don't expect to see any output to sd. But it will auto restore if corruption is ever detected.
