[Q] Bricked T-mobile S3 can anything be done. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok so long story short my S3 is hard bricked. This was my first try at doing my own root and rom install. Im not sure where I messed up at.
1. I got a toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
2. Backed up all system files with the toolkit, and saved pics to my computer.
3. downloaded oden and clockworks restore (cant remember the name)
4. did factory reset
5. cleared cache
6. then installed the S3 rom I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656
I followed all the instructions as best I could and it still messed up. is there anything I can do to reset it back to default??
Nothing comes on. no lights, no screen, no sound. only thing I get is if I take out the battery and plug it up i get a led light for about 12 secs.

That rom was for the SGS3 i9300--the international version of the phone, which has different hardware. There are many threads here in the Sprint SGSIII forums with warnings to not flash roms for the i9300 on our phones because doing so will permanently brick our phones...

[Q]Is there a "true" factory restore for T-Mobile Galaxy S II?

We received our Samsung Galaxy II phones a few days ago.
My wife had a Swiftkey and Swiftkey X keyboard apps in her Amazon appstore account. She installed Swiftkey X, and she was presented with an "update" that showed Swiftkey (not the X; apparently this is an issue with Amazon appstore based on Swiftkey site). Thinking that it was an update to the Swiftkey X, she apparently applied it, and immediately there were number of FC notices (she remembers seeing TWLauncher among them) and a spontaneous reboot of the phone. Then, she couldn't get online either through WiFi or 4G. At that point she gave the phone to me to fix it
Comparing her phone side by side with mine it is very clear that there's an issue with network connectivity. While mine flies through the pages, market downloads, etc. either on WiFi or 4G, hers get stock for 3-5 seconds before opening pages or sometimes just displays a "webpage cannot be found" or "connection error".
I went ahead and did a factory restore, but that seems to only delete user account, personal files, etc. if I understand it correctly. Moreover, the issue is still there after the restore. So, is there a way to restore the system files to stock as well? Can it be done without rooting, or does it require loading a fresh ROM?
Sorry for the lengthy message and thanks in advance!

Everything goes back to stock.
You need to either:
1. Root
2. Install CWM through ROM Manager
3. Flash this
Or:
1. ODIN flash CWM
2. Flash this

Thanks again for the replies. So, I'm going to have to root it and put a stock image back I gues... I was hoping that SII had a fail safe similar to Nook Color where you can easily go back to stock if something was not right.

Oh, sorry about that. I'm a newbie for the SII rooting/modding (did quite a bit with Nook Color), and I need to do some reading first.

Alright, I'm halfway through. The rooting process for the SII is little different than NC, but the principles are the same.
By the way, is it safe to assume that some conflict between SwiftKey and SwiftKey X caused the problem on her phone? The reason I ask is because I'd like to put SwiftKey X on my SII (it has multi-language support) and I dont want to deal with the same issue if it was the culprit.
I believe I did enough reading at this point
Since this doesn't involve rooting (now I understand it), I'd like to get an "OK" from the guru before proceeding with the following "as newbie as it gets" steps:
1. Install Odin (v1.85)
2. Install Kies for the recent GSII drivers
3. Make sure Windows recognizes the phone in ODIN (seeing <ID:0/004> Added!! in the message box)
4. Turn off the phone
5. Turn on the phone by holding both the Vol-up and Vol-down buttons and plug the USB cable in while still holding both buttons
6. Select volume up button to proceed to download mode
7. Start Odin
8. Check the PDA button in Odin and browse to “T989UVKID_HOME_SGH-T989user_CL594724_REV00.tar.md5” file
9. Click Start in Odin and let it flash
10. Once it completes and reboots…..
Is that it? At Step 10, it should boot into a 100% T-Mo stock, right? Just to be sure, I’ll perform a factory reset after that point and start all over with the user files, apps, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds good. But if you look in the stickied threads top of this forum the drivers for our phone are posted. No need to install kies but that does work also

The "factory reset" you used IS the fail safe. The parts that "factory reset" doesn't remove is the part that won't be messed up unless you are rooted. So I don't even know how you touched /system etc without rooting...

Just finished flashing the stock image and everything worked as expected. This was also a good practice to learn how to restore it to stock in case something goes bad.

The issue was created after installing a 3rd party keyboard and -by accident- applying an update that was supposed to be for a slightly different version, which resulted in numerous force closes and random reboots immediately. I might be wrong here, but that indicates that more than just the user files were affected, since deleting just user files via factory reset didn't help the network problem. However, flashing the stock image -without rooting- took care of the problem.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S III Rooted/Installed ROM... Now won't power on. Help!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a little help today.
I rooted my new Sprint Galaxy S III using Odin3-v3.04, and CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7. Afterwards I rebooted and all was good.
I then downloaded I9300_Omega_v6.0_XXALF6 ROM and loaded on my phone and rebooted into recovery to install the ROM. I went through the install process, selected remove bloatware and installed. When finished I checked the reboot phone and clicked finish. The phone turned off and didn't ever turn back on.
I have pulled the battery and tried to power on using recovery, download mode and just power but nothing works.
Anyone have any idea what I can do?
Thank you for your time and help.

New phone on the way!
I was able to get a replacement sent from Sprint. Had to go to a corporate store and have a tech look at the phone and they agreed it was toast...
Luckily they didn't know it was due to my failed attempt to load an unsupported ROM.
Lesson learned... new phone should be in by the end of the week.
I'll be waiting for a supported ROM this time.

Oh man tell me about it, I almost stupidly went on to the CM9 nightlies and downloaded the I9300 version before I thought to myself, "well wait a minute, that's not my model number!"
Duh, shoulda had a V8.
I didnt install a GSM rom but still managed to brick somehow. Didnt touch any system files or do anything to where i should be bricked either. Any idea when a full stock Odin package will be made? My phone has been bricked for almost 2 days now
Edit: i started a tread here a few days ago -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731416 if anyone cares to look or has any advice for me

What happened is that you flashed a rom that was meant for the international version of the S3 and your on the US version. The only fix I have found is to send it to mobiletechvideos.com. I did and they say they can fix it and maybe save my data I have on it ( I just sent it in)
My fingers are crossed for the data recovery but as far as the phone I am going to send it for a exchange anyway.
Welp, I'm sad to say I just did the same thing too. Should have read. I'm a stinkin noob at this. I installed the I9300 version on a US version phone. Has there been any more development on this? Is the hardware fried, or is there a fix through that mobiletechvideos.com that was mentioned? What was the outcome of that, Taygutta, if you don't mind me re-bringing back up a potentially painful topic?? This thread made me a little sick, since it's my brother's new phone (someone else that knew what they were doing rooted it for him but he didn't like the rom, so I thought I would help him find a few other options to try flashing.)
Anyway, any confirmation that I'm buying my brother a new phone (so I can emotionally prepare for the purchase) or are there some other options?
There's one more thing you can try. There's a little device called a USB Jig. It was made for SGS-2 to clear the yellow triangle and reset flash counts in ODIN mode. It also puts your phone in ODIN mode by simply plugging it into the USB port of a powered down phone. Once in ODIN mode, you can reflash a stock ROM, recovery, etc. You can buy these for around $20 or less on the web.
If this does not work, I'm afraid nothing will.
Good luck.

[Q] Help... MEID, BASEBAND version, etc unknown.

I have a Galaxy Note 2 on the sprint network. Yesterday someone sent me a text and i tried to sent them a text back but my phone didn't have a signal. It reset itself a bunch of times. It stopped resetting and now there is no signal to the tower. I looked on my phone and Baseband version, network, mobile network type say unknown. service state is out of service, username is unavailable. mobile network state is disconnected, my phone number is unknown, min unknown, prl version unknown, meid unknown, imei unknown, iccid unknown. device status modified.
I rooted my phone when i first got it with the method that doesn't make your flash counter go up. I had super user installed and had the OTA survival mode checked and did the OTA update for multiwindow and then lost root. This wasn't a big deal to me so I just left it alone, everything worked. Its been a couple of months and then this happened. I reflashed a stock rom on the phone and that didn't fix anything. I rooted it with the Samsung Note 2 toolkit and that went well. But it somehow got stuck on the boot screen again after a while so i just reflashed to stock.
I downloaded QPST and entered my IMEI into the nv line 550 and clicked the write NV block and returned an error. Im stuck. I have insurance and I've only had the phone a couple of months. What the heck happened? Was it somekind of wipe? I have been working on this all day and I'm going to bed now, but can someone help me out?
I would not have been so quick to start messing with qpst.In most cases where ive seen this the imei and related numbers were fine and it was a system screw up. That said,This happened to me recently and even odin wouldnt fix it. I ran THIS and it brought me back so I would try that first.

thanks. I am downloading that now and will try it and let you know. I didn't want to start messing with qpst but i saw a tutorial that you can enter your imei back into your phone with it. i got my numbers off the box and went to work. but qpst would not write the values into my phone.
when i plug the usb into the phone a flag pops up in windows and says hardware id is missing as well.

i didn't see any instructions with your post that you linked and I probably didn't use that file the way it was supposed to be used. how exactly do you use it? and when i turned my phone on it still said baseband unknown.

when i dial ##72786# it goes to a meny labeled SCRTN but is blank with no options.
at this point I used triangle away and flashed the stock rom on my phone, it keeps randomly resetting. in the setttings it still has baseband unknown. i did the ota update and the build number is JROO3C.L900VPALJC
under status, everything is unknown and at the botton it says device modified.
when i put it into download mode right now it says custum binary: no ; current binary: samsung official; system status: custom
this started when the phone just started resetting a bunch after my buddy texted me and then it didn't have service and all the values were wiped, i just want to take it back to sprint because ive only had it for a couple of months. will the above values be ok for a trip to the sprint store?

as it is, does the spring store take your phone back if system status is custom and device says modified?
b.) if i can fix it, it would be better than taking it back. everything on the phone still works, but it obviously cant see a cell phone tower or make calls. data on wifi only type deal.

I'm not familiar with that EFS issue since I've never read about it. However I would try that tar I posted as a last resort since the stock zip didn't do anything for you. The issue you're describing is the exact same thing that happened to me and that tar brought me back. And about being custom/modified it all depends on the Sprint Rep you get. Some are cool about it some are not.

the bummer is that this all happened randomly. i wasn't messing with my phone at all and it was running great then it reset a bunch of times and then wiped everything. i don't know if it would have helped, but i highly reccomend everyone backing up their EFS. because you never know when this will happen to you.
take care, thanks for the help everyone.

Galaxy s3 i9305 won't turn on after installing custom rom (AT&T LTE 4G version)

After installing the rXTREME v6.2 ROM for the i9305, I selected restart from Recovery and it never turned back on. The battery was fully charged before I installed this custom ROM.
- I have removed the battery for an hour and then tried again turn it on - no success. Can't get into Download mode using the 3-buttons.
- When I plug it into my laptop via USB I hear the 'connected sound' and when I remove it I hear the 'disconnected sound', but I do not see any ability to access the phone via Windows Explorer. The driver is found and connected too.
- I tried using Odin and it say's "Added!" when I connect, but the COM:x field is 'yellow', not blue. (Keep in mind I can't get into Download mode on my phone, but I still tried with Odin) I load the right PDA file (I9305XXBMA3_I9305MEOBMA1_I9305XXBLL5_HOME.tar.md5) and have 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked. Odin message stays on status "SetupConnection..". I've left it this way many times, one time overnight. But with no success.
Any advice??? Please help :/

You are hard bricked. You flashed an international ROM to a us phone (or vice versa, your thread title is a little confusing on what device model you have)
JTAG or send to Samsung.

I'm not sure he's hard bricked. Hard brick means no signs of life. Odin can see it, so there's obviously some sign of life. You need to find the proper stock firmware for your phone and try to flash back to stock

ODIN also detects hard bricks. It usually shows up as an unknown device with no drivers and can't be flashed. I've been there and done that with my own hard brick.
As his post says his phone won't boot, even after a battery pull and can't get into download or recovery. That would be no signs of life.
I have seen it happen too many times with people flashing international ROMs to their us devices. 95% of the time it is always a hard brick.
Unless he provides us with an update showing that the phone can boot, at all, even a flicker of the screen, its a dead phone. =/

if the phone won't turn on by any mean... you got yourself hard bricked.
people should really read before they actually flash a new rom... what you flashed is an international version.
but that's also weird... if i recall, some people mentioned when they flash international roms, they only got themselves soft bricked..

I concur. Too many people gloss over the thread to flash whatever they feel like it. (even saw people using a vzw app to unlock their att boot loader.. which isn't even locked. also hard bricked. )
The lucky few do get a soft brick. Those lucky few were able to see the Samsung boot logo though. It all depends on the ROM. For instance if you flash the international foxhound ROM its a guaranteed brick. 3 different people in a 2 day span I helped not too long ago. all flashed foxhound all hard bricks.

I really feel XDA should implement a test on reading comp and flashing basics before you are allowed access to dev forums for ROMs.

people should really do research before actually doing it in any way.
Do you get any signs of life on the screen at all? Either Recovery or Download mode? The Galaxy S3 splash screen? Anything at all?
If not, then it's a hard brick and you can get it repaired via a JTAG service (check eBay).
However, if you get ANY signs of life on the screen at all, even if for just a moment, then you might be able to repair things yourself.
innos D9 doesn't switch on properly

I'm almost certain you're in the wrong forum. What model phone do you have ? (What does it say on the sticker on the chassis under the battery ?).
Edit- I'm absolutely certain. That recovery you have is an Epic 4G touch rom. Report your OP by clicking the triangle with the ! in the right hand corner & ask mods to move it here

i look at that list of roms and my eyes cross no idea what im even looking for. the other one is asking me if im on a rom version or soemthing then give me links.
but i did notice on the bottom of one of those links is says tutorial and guides for my phone. so i clicked on the how to flash tutorial, 1st think i noticed is the link is not there for the drivers i need. link is broken
Example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274337
then on the bottom it says
DO NOT USE PHONE FOR ANYTHING BUT A RADIO/MODEM - YOU WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE ABLE TO USE YOUR PHONE FOR CALLS, AND YOU MAY POSSIBLY BRICK IT - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
i want to use this phone for phone calls and everything like i was using it before.

Hi, welcome to the Sprint Epic 4G touch section. Lots of nice helpful people here.
First, definitely try recharging your battery. Someone on here though his phone was bricked, only to find out 6 months later that his phone was shutting off on him due to a low battery.
You shouldnt have to flash it over to boost again.. cuz I dont think those things change when you flash different roms or Odin other roms.
So try downloading the one click GB27. plug your phone into you computer, put your phone in odin mode (vol down + power) and flash. it should all work.
http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=166
download the following: SPH-D710_GB27_1014481_Rooted_Nodata.exe.. this will not delete whatever is on your phone; the other versions on that page will, so be careful to choose the right one.
If odin cannot detect your phone when you connect your phone, try installing the drivers:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mau0966wf6q20m2
As i said before, You should NOT have to reflash to boost. That information is stored on a different section of the phone that does not get touched by flashing roms. But if the phone is somehow screwed up, here is the thread on flashing to boost. you shouldnt have to need this.
Current update. I did a wipe/factory reset on it. Now i have it working normally now turning off, applications ect. My phone number and misid is still programed in the phone. I contacted the guy in NY who originally flashed my phone and he said doing that reset i lost everything, and my phone is no longer flashed, anyone have any instructions or direct links on where i can go to get my phone working on my boost mobile network again?

so what did you need that is no longer working?
if your phone and MSID is still programmed into the phone, then what is missing. are you calls working? data working?
I guess factory resetting might have reset your AAA and HA... i think you could have avoided the mess of factory resetting and just flashed a rom on top and been okay.

How does a factory reset cause your phone to stop working after being flashed to another provider?
Factory reset only touches the data and cache partitions. AFAIK, everything you need is in the system partition which is not touched during a reset. Try calling the number to activate with Boost because I think "this guy" from NY is feeding you a crock of ****.

Cuz the guy in NY is full of BS and wants to scam him out of money for nothing. The only way to lose a carrier flash is to wipe out the entire NV and EFS data, not just a reprovisioning but actually blank out the partitions.
Edit: it's not even in the system partition. NV and efs reside in a semi secure partition(s) of their own. Even wiping system won't affect a carrier flash (most updater scripts wipe system when installing a rom)
