Droid DNA all the way. I want one so bad. The question is really wether you want sense or AOSP.

Just my opinion....go Nexus. No more waiting for mythical updates :/
I would expect the DNA to be just like the Inc2.....the best device upon release, but a year later its a forgotten device. Nexi are guaranteed 2 OS version updates.

The thing i want the most is alot of dev support like the inc2 had but i heard that the DNA might be like the Rezound on the support end.

Understood, although, the Rez didn't have nitsuj17. The DNA will.

I'd wait and see if some devs hop on the DNA...

Well, I guess i'm gonna go with the Droid DNA, I'm sure it will have great dev support seeing that TeamandIRC has an unlock on it already

I need way more than the 16 gigabyte it comes with.

Well they both don't have microSD slots so you would have to spend more for the 32gb nexus
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...

I ended up buying a Nexus. I never have really cared about the latest or greatest spec'd phone, but updates and roms are what make a phone in my opinion. I previously had an OG droid which was awesome for that. I was kind of let down with the inc2 since I got it late in the game and most developers had jumped ship already. The Nexus has a great community behind it with fast updates. Feels like home again.

I recently had a Dinc2 and bought a GNex outright for 200 new. Best decision ever.
I wont buy HTC ever again, just because they dont update phones as fast. I dont know how much longer the GNex will be supported, but at least it officially runs 4.1.1 and there is no need to hack bootloaders and such.
I also prefer AOSP and love that there is minimal bloatware on the phone.
The DNA is new which is nice, but no sd card (probably all phones will go to this setup) and no removable battery. On a 4G phone? No thanks.
Oh, and I kept my unlimited data...which I dont even use that often (maybe 1 GB) but I dont like Verizon telling me to spend more and get less.

This screams me. I just wish there was a newer phone like the Galaxy Nexus.
I could go on and on about how I feel about Android phone hardware...but that is for another place, another time.

(I'm not attempting in any way to hijack this thread)
A lot of people have posted their upgrade decisions with reasons in this thread.
I've started a thread over in General that is similar to this.
It can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017081
I would appreciate if you could post your upgrade decisions there.
I want to 'index', if you will, upgrades from the Incredible 2.
This may help people with their decisions.
Also, congrats to OP on his/her new phone!
Thanks,

Yeah, I dont even care if the device is a year old now. When I got my Inc2 after its year old date it was still...slow. Just not a sense fan, but the phone was free...so I win. lol.

Once the Thunderbolt comes out are we still gonna get luvin from the devs??

I rooted my phone a few months back and now I seem to flash a new rom every day. I was just wondering since the new hotness, HTC Thunderbolt, is coming out in a few months, will the devs continue to support the Dinc??
I had a DX and swapped it for a Dinc specifically because there is much more dev support.
Thanks!
I don't think you have anything to worry about for a while. I believe the higher cost of 4g service will possibly delay the move of some people to a 4g device.
I'm excited about the first thing to come and that being the porting of the thunderbolt rom and it's Sense 2.0 to devices like the DInc. I would have to imagine that with the dump of the Thunderbolt being dropped a few days ago that it is already going on behind the scenes. I am a Virtuous user myself and I remember RMK stating that his next big change would be when such a rom dropped, so that he could incorporate the new sense.

The G1/Dream came out 28 months ago and it's still being supported by developers--even though it's been superseded in every possible way by almost every Android device that's come out after it.
That said, as long as the Evo is supported and/or Koush has a DInc, there will plenty of cross-flashing material for us anyhow--I wouldn't worry about it!

I'm happy with my Incredible and it will stay in the family - I'll let my wife and daughter duke it out and winner takes it <grin>. The Incredible is a very capable smartphone and it will be that way for a while. I have faith that the devs will do what they can to support it.

I'm not really a dev but i'm a theme designer i guess that wouldn't fall under dev lol
anyway, i'll be making themes for both devices (as seen in my sig)
not to mention since skin.apk's would be compatible with both devices thanks to the new Sense 2.0 it will make them universal across all Z/HD/ThunderBolt ROM's

Worth it?

So I've been debating between the galaxy nexus and the razr maxx. I can't find a good deal on the maxx so I found a deal for a new in box Gnexus for 400 bucks. Do you guys think its a good deal or should I wait for something better? Btw im coming from a bionic.

I think that its worth it to go for the gnex. Its a slick phone, has many great features, and has the best devs (in my opinion)

Three words about Motorola phones:
Locked. Bootloaders. Fail.
That is all
Terminators run on Android
Oh yeha. If you can live with a locked bootloader, ok.
As long as motorola keeps closing the bootloader i will never buy a motorola phone again.
For me the gnex is a dream of a phone. I can live with it for the next 2 or 3 years.
My Milestone was changed after a half year to the Galaxy S.

have you tried flashing diff basebands? I had that issue with the shipped baseband of KK1 i think it was and i flashed different ones until i found one that held a steady signal for me. I think you should give it a try before you jump ship.
If you are going to purchase an Android device, this is the one to get.
Do you guys think Motorola will unlock the bootloader now that google will buy them out? Cuz then id go with a maxx if this does happen.

Google buying Motorola will have no immediate effect on devices. Especially on devices that have already been released. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting Google to force Motorola to unlock bootloaders.
Even in the future, they've said they're not going to influence Motorola, and let them run on their own. Although I doubt this, their indication for the immediate future is that they're not going to do anything to them.
i traded my gs2 att version for a Motorola sim unlocked sold it second day the boot loader locked that not good i buy a gnex happy with it

i would recommend this one, don't have any probs with the signal or anything, i been wanting a nexus device. I've had the motorola atrix(the first one), and it was a frustrating with the lack of updates, and lack of dev support. I can easily see myself having this phone til my upgrade comes(or even longer) and i just got on a plan with verizon in december....

I was ONE click away from the One X but...

I chose the galaxy nexus. And I'm very very very excited. At the end of the day you just have to be happy with your purchase. When the galaxy nexus first came out, I was like wow I want this phone so bad but I couldn't justify buying it since I had a galaxy s 2. Then I wanted a galaxy note but deep inside I really wanted a nexus but went for the note. Loved it a lot! Then sold it to get the One X buy deep in side again the nexus man I'm telling you I had to have it and I was one click away to buy the one x but then I went with my gut feeling and bought the nexus. I think I'm destined to have this phone after all this time. I'm so excited, I could care less about specs right now. I'm planning on getting the Galaxy s 3 when it comes out also and I'll keep both but I think the nexus is a must have. Very excited to say the least. WINNING!!!!!!!!!!! Splash!
nice, however if i was you i would have bought the one X today. sure the Gnex is awesome but its about 6 months old already and the one x would have been a better purchase

Well it is newer, and it is better. I would rather have the One X, as long as it's unlockable/rootable and I could put stock ICS on it. Then it would be a very awesome phone. As we've seen from the Galaxy S (and even the Galaxy Nexus actually), having a Nexus phone doesn't even mean you get updates first and/or in a timely fashion anymore.

Most people upgrade their devices to get the latest OSes. HTC devices are stagnant.
So that point is moot.

Having to jump through loops to unlock/root it and not having a pure stock ICS ROM available for download is a pretty big point not making it better in my book.
Sure it looks nice, build quality seems very good, too. Quadcore is probably not yet the wisest choice for a smartphone, as it is not really necessary and eats a LOT of battery.
Just because we had to wait a few months for the update this time also doesn't mean it will be always like this in the future.
First gen dual cores blew.
First gen anything has issues. Time will tell with quads, but it will not even remotely shock me if issues show up.

And then the devs struggle to figure out how to get AOSP to work on the phone while they wait for manufacturer's source: the months of waiting for AOSP to be (fully) functional on a non-Nexus device are enough to turn me off "upgrading" no matter how good a phone looks. The fluke/perfect storm of getting AOSP to run so easily on the SGS likely will never happen again.

And it wasn't easy at all for the Fascinate. jt1134 had hell with that device. I know you were speaking of GSM devices, but I figured I would toss that in there because anything CDMA or LTE is going to be 50-100% longer than it takes the GSM counterpart.

WAYNE?! :banghead:
that bootloader issue is the same that me and many others had when the first atrix was released, it was annoying seeing others flashing roms and i'm stuck with a great phone with potential but a locked bootloader. Then by the time they finally unlocked the bootloader most devs/users had abandoned the device and it hardly got any support. But anyways, i kept my Nexus(that i bought a month after launch) and bought an iphone 4s about 2 months ago, i love it, its a great device and iOS is a lot better than what people been saying about it, but after flashing JB then trying AOKP milestone 6 made me realize how much i miss my Nexus. The SGSIII was never a factor to me(i really don't like the design, plus touchwiz is not one of my favs coming from a SGSII to a Nexus). Also another small reason that i decided to try the iphone is because every phone will get the latest update(unless it's outdated like the very first iphone) and that plays a huge role when i buy phones due to the fact i would like a phone that'll get the latest updates or at least great dev support, cause i wouldn't wanna have to buy another phone due to the fact that it won't be getting upcoming updates, or the devs abandoned it......

Not disagreeing about going from gs3 to gnex because I did the same thing, but you can absolutely put apps in folders on the gs3. You just can't drop an app onto another on the home screen, you have to hit the menu button first and then create a folder into which you can then add any apps you want and then rename the folder.

Dont kid yourself with the whole my iphone will always get the latest updates stuff. Sure you will get an update, but that update will only give all the new features and bells and whistles to the newest iphone. I have owned several iphones and the problems with their updates is that they design them to be compatible with all the phones but that doesnt mean they run great on all the phones. I remember when i had the Iphone 3g and they came out with the 4.0 update, it made the phone so unbearably slow that everyone with that phone had to revert back to 3.0. Apple even just announced that the 3gs which they are still selling in stores wont get most of the features of the 6.0 update.
just saying how i came back to the Nexus too, its all relevant to the topic

A Nexus plus $280?
Not a bad payoff there.
I love my nexus but having owned a 4s out of morbid curiosity for a whole 2 weeks I have to say if I could have 1 thing iOS has on android it would be the ability to back up my phone like they do. I know we have tools and various apps we can use but that's the one and only thing that impressed me was to be able to back up your phone wipe it, and restore everything with one click. Other than that there is no way I will ever own another. They are worse than a Motorola on Verizon.

i kno that, i'm not the type that would hold on to a phone that long to be that far behind as a 3g, i was saying in general, compared to android which is not always guaranteed an update, and no i'm not bashing android, i been using android since the G1 and definitely a huge android fan, just wanted to try something different for a change, but u do have a point though

What factors made your decision to go back to the Nexus?"
Honestly the single biggest reason I switch back was because the lock bootloader and no jelly bean . I figure by the time the update jelly bean there gonna be released the galaxy nexus 4 and a new os or update anyway. 2. i hated S voice. 3.the size difference between 4.65 and 4.8 I just hope it's 3 was just too big and the nexus is felt better my hand . The nexus just felt better and the texture as well. 4. I know I only had it for a day but I just didn't like the physical keys, I love the on screen keys. 5. I think it's a better looking phone.

Lol I called out that you will start seeing people coming back lol!
good move........

Well, Just bought myself a Galaxy Nexus

Finally. I ordered a Galaxy from EBay and now I have to wait 5-6 days for it to come. So I was wondering what has happened in the Galaxy Nexus community.
Oh I got the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (Toroplus I believe)
Also I was wondering if there were any good fast and stable Jellybean Roms.
So glad to become part of the Nexus Family.

how much did you buy it for? i looked at ebay and buy now price is 50-100 bucks more than what the play store offers
right now im on the amaze 4g.. and the development is horrible... it has good hardware but oh my lord HTC refuses to release kernel source for the darn device. i dont know if HTC does that for the rest of their device ughhhhhh so im reluctant to buy another device from them. should i join you fellow gnex owners?
what device did you come from? ive been looking through the dev thread for the gnex and paranoid rom looks very enticing.

Make the switch, you won't regret it. The specs on the Nexus are not only better (aside from camera and lack of sd slot) but development is light years ahead of the Amaze. There will of course be a new Nexus in the next 3-4 months, but it won't be $350 that's for sure. I came from an Amaze, and a T-Mo S2 and don't regret it one bit.

I come from the Evo 3D, came to Galaxy Nexus due to HTC not releasing the Kernel Source. Now development is dead. Oh and I got it off of eBay, it cost me $255USD with shipping. Clean ESN, light use, comes with everything that comes. The headset, the Charger, everything.

im not surprised with what you just said..
ugggghhh its just so irritating. they release phones with awesome specs but then you cant developed for it....
i hate it when people say "oh we'll get the latest update from cyanogen xx.xx...."
which is BULL****... considering half the time cyanogen wont ever be as refined or close to being complete on said device considering the lack of kernel source/lack of support from the manufacture... people buying non nexus devices are just being delusional. i have come to that conclusion. maybe manufacturers need to beef up the specs of their nexus device in the upcoming years
i believe the only non nexus device that i believed had a blossoming of development is the T-mobile G2\htc vision (i personally had that phone and had lots of fond moments flashing roms in)
other than that nexus all the way. i just wish htc makes the next nexus or there would be 5 of them in the future
HTC is becoming like Apple at the moment... Their One S .. non removable battery and no SD card slot.. and They won't release their damn Kernel Sources.. they discontinue any device and take a whole lot to update them. Not to mention that if you ask and tell them that there is something wrong with your device they say "Hello we are sorry to hear. If you want to try to stay up to date and see if your phone will be able to be fixed join our completely ****ty Twitter or Facebook, because we don't give a **** about you guys, you gave us money , we don't care and we just want to get more popular."
Their support is ****.

Have to disagree with you on the "blossoming of development" part.
Have had the captivate. Which to this day. Is still going strong. And had a jellybean port before the gs3.
I had the epic touch 4g and the att gs2. Which are both still amazing phones going strong. And I am now onto the gs3 which isn't even 2 months old. (U.S release) and the number of ROMs and support for it is overwhelming.

You guys are making me inpatient. My Galaxy Nexus won't be here until 5-6 days. So all this reading is making me happy and impatient. I really want the Galaxy nexus :'3
I actually am getting a nexus on Tuesday, coming from a Droid Incredible which has working ports of - Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.
Its a device that won't die with great devs still, sense 3.5 roms were last developed by Newt/Joelz/Wildstang/Puremotive.
We had an amazing dev and community spot, its dying down as others are upgrading.

Yeah, I can see most people getting a Gnexus are HTC.

High development and seems to be a great and strong community plus the nexus will be my second android phone.
I don't wanna say the nexus is the pinnacle of android phones per-say but its the one fellow nerd lovers and rioters alike will rejoice in a happy community thanks to Google and Samsung.
I honestly cannot wait to start enjoying this phone! Its big enough for my hands, my 3'7 incredible.. my hand swallows this phone and I needed a big phone.
Ahh I'm ecstatic!!!

+1 on that bro, I can't wait for it to be here. And for fun's sake I even spent all night watching an Unboxing video. The only time I have ever touched the Galaxy nexus was in a Sprint store. I looked at the Gnex Screen, then back at mine. Mine looked ****ty compared to the Galaxy Nexus' Gorgeous Screen Resolution. It looked so beautiful. Messed with the UI and felt so smooth. And that was ICS. They say Jellybean is 5x Better than ICS. The moment I get the phone I'll root it and install a good JB Rom.
What's a good Sprint Galaxy Nexus Jellybean Rom?

I don't know about the Sprint variant but with the Verizon version I have had great luck with Euroskank CM10 ROM.

5 days to go
I also noticed that the people in the Nexus Community are cheerful and don't throw you off for saying something wrong. They're actually polite. Some people in the Evo 3D threads answer questions with sarcasm. As if they're perfect.

For your first jelly bean ROM I recommend going with Bug less Beast. I'm running it right now and it is as stable as anything and I'm about three releases behind (7/19 version.) Its my first rom and its making me a root believer!

I just got a nexus today the unlocked version. I'm debating whether I should root it since I have the stock jelly bean. I came from an iPhone 4s. This will be my second android phone though . My first was a skyrocket. I'm liking what I see so far though.
Of course you should root! The development is astounding I personally have spent many hours molding and tweaking mine and loved every minute of it. We have some of the best and most generous devs in the world
