[KERNEL] StarKissed Kangerade [4.X / Dual-Boot / uBoot][01/04] - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

This kernel is about customization. I found many strong points in the kernels I tested before starting this project, but couldn't find that one that combined them. This is my attempt to do so.
This thread is not directed to the elite few, so there is no need to put on your fancy hat when you enter. Relax and enjoy your device.

Only tested for 4.1, I haven't tried it on 4.2 but it does NOT include the sdcard binary that was causing so many issues.

Any plans on making it for 4.2?

I based from the 4.1 branch and I haven't looked into the differences since I have no real interest in 4.2 until it is a little more polished. If there is any chance of mixed compatibility, then I would most likely do it. Right now I am trying to find some patches to make wifi a little less garbage. I can get "good" signal from my Evo3D in my back yard from the router at the front of the house. I barely get any connection 4 rooms away on the Nexus. That can't all be hardware.

Things may finally start moving a little faster. I believe I finally have the Mac compiling the kernel instead of passing the job to Linux through SSH

Me too... Want a 4.2 kernel

i already have CM9 installed on my old I9000
is fun to play around with, but not ready for prime time, because a lot of the Android Market apps that i use on a daily basis are not compatible yet with ICS
so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

eehhhhhh... what does that has to do with getting a new hardware?
the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. Also this is my first Samsung smartphone I am hoping Samsung does a little better than LG when it comes to updates and support for their phone. The g2x was a nightmare thank God I had one of the few g2x's that did not have all the bugs.

This thread is a fail. What does Nexus S development have anything to do with the GS2 ICS rom? They are entirely different chipsets.

Thanks. Added to my feed for updates.
It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

Franco kernel on Axi0m Crossbreed question

I have a semi noob question. Axi0m Crossbreed (and other Kang ROMs) has an over clock and under clock setting.
But so does the franco kernel updater.
My question is, which takes precedence? Or will they auto switch to match? I don't want to over clock using the Franco updater if the ROM will take precedence.
Also, similar question about Franco updater and volume plus. Will one take precedence or will they both increase volume?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I would think that both are making the same modification to your phone. Therefore changing one would affect the other. If in doubt, set both the same or only use one.
This question doesn't belong in the development section. It will probably get moved.

Better rom?? His ROM is sick. AOKP on top of 4.0.4... can't get much better than that. Battery life is the best!
Awesome way for everyone to avoid his question!
To the OP, it depends on which one is set at boot. Whatever one is set at boot will take precedence. However, if you have them both set on boot (this would be bad) you could have tremendous issues.
If you want to run the kernel stock (like Franco intended) then don't do anything and if you want to flash Milestone 2, do it through the app or manually and don't set anything and it will run stock OC'd speeds with the stock governor.

Wait.. if u have an lte gnex, this could be your issue since the sprint and verison versions get 3rd party ports of the i9250 version.
Anyways, I use miui and, while there is some interface lag compared with aosp, its still a great ROM. Aosp is hideous IMHO, especially since 4.2 came out.

Noup. Im using the OFFICIAL for Gnex MAGURO, build by Xiaomi (The one found HERE). Im flashing 3.1.11, which is the latest according to that site. Using TWRP to flash. Might been a bad download, if you insist that its working fine for you, but i did a little research, and some people were complaining about the same bug, so i thought that it was the rom, not me.
EDIT: Just checked, and i highly doubt its a bad download because MD5 matchs with the one posted on the site.

Ok, got MIUI to work. Seems like its not a good idea to flash the ROM and GAPPs on the same go. I had to flash rom, boot the phone, set it up, go to recovery again, and flash gapps, after that, everything seems to be working fine. Even the browser. Seems like that was the key.

While I can't talk on xperia, nexus devices will always have the most support because they are made to be tweaked and tinkered with by developers. I don't think it's a fair comparison. I'm happy with the amount of work, mods, tweaks etc for this phone and it does continue to grow everyday. Besides that, the community is incredibly nice and helpful - as many have stated it's like a family - I'm more than satisfied with it and I'm sorry if you don't feel the same way.
EDIT: What I do wish was updated is the main forum, where it shows all the sub forums and has a link to roms, kernel etc. Under kernel it only shows Neighborhoodhacker's kernel. Atleast Vanir was added under ROMS. But there is so much more than what that main ls970 page shows if you just go into the sub forums.

You got it.
If you've been following any of the threads in the "Development" and "Original Development" threads, then you should know that we need to use KK versions of the recoveries. TWRP 2.6.3.3. has the "potential" to brick your phone, but has been working well for most. If your worried then use CWM 6.0.4.5 or.6. You can find those here. http://downloads.codefi.re/shelnutt2/freegee/LG-LS970/
As for the Rom's, here's a list of links to them. Anywhere from 4.4 to 4.2

Omni 4.4.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48905859
Vanir http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49213482
Just to name a few.
On the Kernels, you'll need to dig through the last few pages of those threads to find those. They are all be developed and fixed daily. As are all the ROM's.
I can't really tell you which one to use, as they all have their perks. My preference is PSX, Vanir, and Liquid when it comes out again.
All the ROM's and Kernel's are being developed for all versions of the OG, so make sure you read which one you need for your phone. For the most part, use ??????spr, since I assume you're using a Sprint version.
Like I said earlier, read the last few pages of the Rom's you're going to try. If you have any questions about them...ask. This forum is very helpful.

Only got the grouper few days ago(for a bargain price as spares or repairs as it would not boot i might add) so havent messed too much with it, im running pheonixos currently as its quite cool to use.
Planning on overclock as just a start on the light but im going to look in next couple days at weather i can merge the galaxy light kernel stuff into my preexisting sources for s5mini since they are the same cpu

Hey steve,
Be awesome if you do manage to bring a custom kernel with oc/uv and deffo adding f2fs that mite give me the chance to port stuff to device been looking at s3mini and 5mini seems most are using f2fs in kernels clueless to making kernel never looked into honestly but if you do have time and complete this can you send me PM please and also permisson to use your kernels in my future builds for this device.

There's different software. The T399 is a T-Mobile phone with Jellybean, the T399N is a MetroPCS phone with KitKat.

Yeah, I think so.
thats great, on the positive side it looks like samsungs kernel devs have at least some common sense, my sources for the s5mini already include nearly everything to build for both variants of the light so expect kernel to test soon
