Copy boot.img into the same folder where the fastboot or fastboot.exe executable file is.
Reboot your HTC One X into Bootloader Mode.
Select Fastboot from the Bootloader menu.
Connect your HTC One X to the computer via USB cable.
Manually flash the boot.imgfile you have extracted earlier. Open a command prompt or terminal on your computer and type the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

as I understand from your statement that you havnt rooted your mobile and you are still at original RUU ROM, if thats true you may have 2 options only ,
1- re-install the official RUU for your device or
2-return it to the repair center

Ignore that, or any advice that says to unlock your bootloader to do so unless you already have unlocked it.
If you are fully stock and are not willing to void your warranty by unlocking or flashing anything report/return it to HTC as a fault.

Unlocking the bootloader does not, I repeat DOES NOT void the varranty, UNLESS you bought it locked to a carrier

What a ridiculous statement.
I quote the following from HTCdev...
"Unlocking the bootloader means that you now have the ability to customize software on your device. Please note that changing your bootloader can cause significant issues with your device and once you have unlocked your device, you have agreed to the disclaimer that states a change in warranty status such that in the event you render your device unusable, you are responsible for the recovery of your device, whether by repair or by other means."
Which clearly translates to...after unlocking your bootloader you are responsible (must pay for) any repairs. There is NO qualification as to whether carrier purchase makes any difference ANYWHERE in the T&C's.
There is substantial evidence ALL over the internet and REPEATED advice from ALL quarters that doing so VOIDS the warranty.

You don't need to root to flash a ROM, you just need to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery...possibly upgrade hboot.
A custom ROM will be pre-rooted.

Error : No Connection.?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759
Sent from my Nexus 4.
You could try unlocking the bootloader, root, and install a 4.2.2 custom rom. This will void the warranty but it may be the only way to fix the problem.
Update : so i went into the bootloader. And its pretty strange. Its S-OFF but not rooted :/ that is a really strange issue. Also i have noted the signals to be a bit more weaker.. Can somebody guide me from here?
Here r the pics btw

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.
Example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19911066&postcount=755
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17336292&postcount=721
just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.

[Q] So after root bootloader?

Ok so I followed 2 videos I cannor post since I am still new to root my phone. Weirdly enough it worked the first time (knowing how unlucky I am with these stuff).
So after this I learned that I have to unlock the bootloader. SO being the noob I am I went to actually check it out. What it was, not the process. I then found a rom I liked and the way to unlock the bootloader. So my questions:
1) Is there a possibility my bootloader is already unlocked?
2) In some posts I saw that the manufacturing date might make your phone hard brick. I think it was in some experia models. Does HTC Desire HD has any problem with that? Mine is : HT138RX... do I need to write the whole thing?
3) When you unlock the bootloader will the original rom work or it's just a step before you put the custom ROM?
4) once it is unlocked assuming I wanna change ROM do I have to unlock it again?
I already did my full back up so... Thanks in advance. I did a full search in the forum but couldn't find answers to these :/
The original post had also the links but since Its my first post I cant post em...

Bootloader unlock and root are separate, and you can't root without unlock or S-Off. I don't know what you did, and I don't know what state your phone was in when you got it. If you tell me that I will know how to answer your question better. All I know right now is that your phone is S-Off, meaning that you can flash anything on it.

OK, I think I understand your confusion. You need EITHER bootloader unlock OR S-Off to flash a recovery and flash root. You have S-Off from AAHK (which is now unsupported), so you don't need to (and can't) unlock your bootloader.
Now, to have root, either flash a rooted custom ROM from recovery or flash a superuser zip on your current stock ROM.

Since you are S-Off you don't need the boot.img, just flash ROM and gapps from recovery. JellyTime is AOSP, not Sense, so you do need to flash gapps. If you ever flash a Sense ROM, you don't need gapps.

[Q] custom rom install

By mistake and in order to rediscover the ruu roms,I installed an ruu rom, after I had a custom rom.
And I would like to return to install a custom rom in my dhd.
Can anyone help me with steps I need to do in order to be able to install a custom rom,I read alot of articles in this forum but still haven't got the general concept of the steps I need to follow in order.
Thanks in advance for the support.
Obviously you already had custom?
Why don't you just follow the same method you used to get the custom rom the first time?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
not to easy.....
Since i know that after installing stock rom you won't be able to get root access in your DHD so in order to use custom ROM in your DHD first you need to have ROOT access so that you may follow script AAHK2 to get root and s-off even if you get root that's fine, that install CWM recovery so that you're about to get access for custom rom installation process. But before flash custom rom take backup or your current rom its not that much require but helpful.
Once all that done. Vol. Down and PWR button will let you go in to bootloader, hit power button and then from fastboot you have to type fastboot flash boot boot.img
then press power button again to get back to hboot screen where you will have recovery option hit there and install your desire custom rom.
if S-OFF then no need to flash boot.img, since i have S-ON so i thought let's mention you about it.if you don't flash your boot.img file then either you will hang in htc logo screen or in boot loop so for S-ON flash boot.img and for S-OFF no needed.
Thanks.

Yes you may unlock or relock bootloader in easiest way how i do,just need to download one file,i know it's chinese site but you need to open it some browser where you may able to translate whole page in order to understand what those chinese letters trying to explain.
this is the site, open in any browser where language translate supports, download file worth size 17.15MB so download it and install it,Once all done connect your DHD and it should detect your phone,Once it detects it will shows your phone current display like blank screen or whatever screen you're up to. now look in that app you will find several different icon click on 4th one like first one is with some S symbol in that line 4th one you have click in there you can see several different icons. Check for lock icon with htc written just click on it,will take 1 or 2min and you will have on your phone option for choose Yes or Choose No and press power button. This by far the easiest method.
If you don't want to follow this then go with htcdev will take some time but will unlock your bootloader too.
Or follow this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133336
Enjoy. My personal advice choose the first one because it is the by far the easiest method to unlock bootloader and there are several other chinese site have made there softwares.
Thanks.

Enjoy. My personal advice choose the first one because it is the by far the easiest method to unlock bootloader and there are several other chinese site have made there softwares.
Thanks.

According to your given information I'd simply say: "Go and get you a new device!"
This shurely is as helpful as your information.
Else you'd write a few lines on what you did or what you tried to do when the 'brick' happened...

Ok, so everything is fine.
Depending on your rom (Sense I assume) you'll need to reflash your kernel or the complete "romwhichever".zip
To flash a kernel separately you need to boot into recovery and enter:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Usually you'll find the file boot.img inside the rom zip file(s) and you need to extract them. More questions?
Yes bro...can you guide me where to get the flash file

Are you using the stock rom (that came with the phone) or another one (which one)?
TWRP or CWM recovery?
Rooted (Superuser installed) or not?
Sorry asking, but that's straightforward...

i did not do any thing bro...my phone is crazy...please dont give up on me...every thing in the phone is not modified...please can you help me reflash it to stock ?!!!
If you didn't even unlock the bootloader, how could you possibly mess it up?
Is that possible?
Usually you can't bypass a locked bootloader.
So I'd suggest the following:
Boot into bootloader
Select Hboot (simply by pressing the on/off switch)
Select 'Factory Reset' by pressing Vol down
Press on/off
and wait for reboot.
Btw. did you buy it 2nd hand?

What is your recovery?
And did you try the steps I mentioned above? It's way easier to try this first instead of returning to stock, as there are no RUU's available now. The very first thing to return to stock is to find out if an appropriate backup exists here.
If not, we'll try to load and flash another rom. Search for ADB-sideload...
Do you know about ADB-shell?

Make shure to search and read for these things before we start anything...

Instructions are a bit wanky. You need to be in download mode for the instructions to work. Had similar issue.

I tried going into download mode and then doing "fastboot boot recovery.img" so that I could take a nandroid in it's current stock form before flashing the TWRP recovery. All i got was a "Start Downloading" Prompt and when I'd select it, the device kept saying "Under Flash" over and over again. Any idea of what to do or do I have to take the plunge and flash the boot with the recovery image?

you can't boot recovery
you need to flash TWRP 2.8.6.4 beta
Make a nandroid and save it to your pc
In TWRP Terminal use this command
Code:
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system /system
Reboot recovery and your ready to start flashing SuperSU / roms

do you know why this is?
Update: found the answer plus more details for the other answers above, in this thread.

8. How do I backup stock recovery prior to flashing TWRP?
You can't. The "fastboot boot" command appears to be disabled on the M9's ABOOT, so TWRP must be fastboot flashed over stock recovery. The firmware zip included in the OTA will include a usable stock recovery image. That can be extracted and flashed after stock system is restored so that the OTA can be applied.

You need to be in download mode to unlock the bootloader.
Follow this guide by KingInTheNorth to unlock your bootloader and root.
Just a small note: if you're on a 5.1 stock rom, you need to enable OEM unlock in developer options first.

As long as its not a verizon branded phone, you may be able to unlock it at www.htcdev.com/bootloader.I say may be because im not sure about a demo device, and whats different on that than a regular phone.

the difference is that i can not store any data in the phone. the app named "demo" keeps popping up automatically. and when it does my all data is gone like my contacts, messages, even the pictures.
in settings there are some option which i can not change, like i can not lock the phone or enter in the security section.
The phone is international version, i tried to unlock it from htcdev but for that u must be able to enter in FASTBOOT nd that OEM option in developer setting must be enabled. i am not able to enter any of those. No fastboot option in Settings. nd when i boot to Bootloader mode there is no option like fastboot. i hope this will make u understand what im trying to say! thannks
I dont know if its a demo thing, but general m9's dony even have the oem option in developer settings. There is no fastboot option to select in the bootloader, you just use a cmd prompt on your pc while in bootloader to type fastboot oem get_identifier token. Mabey i still dont understand.
In settings - display and gestures look for daydream and see if it gives you the option to shut it off. Or go to manage apps find daydream and see if you can disable it. I believe demo mode is part of daydream. Also may be called basic daydream. Also look for any other apps that say demo and try to disable them.
