[Q] Whats the diffrence of the N7100 and the N7105? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im on the market right now on buying the note 2 but i noticed when searching on line for a good deal is there were 2 versions of the phone? whats the diffrence between the two? and what is the best one to get? thanks

THe only difference is that the N7105 has international Freq for LTE as the N7100 does not

The N7100 is the international model with no LTE the N7105 has the radio support for LTE. I believe both are available unlocked but the N7105 carries a $200 price premium. I just purchased the N7100 version from eBay for $550 and I plan on using it with the $30 per month T-Mobile Walmart plan. I just hope the 1900mhz spectrum is live here in Birmingham, AL so I can use T-Mobile 3G. Otherwise the N7100 usually only gets 3G on AT&T's network. I'm coming off a Verizon plan with two Galaxy Nexus' running $146 a month for 700 min and 4GB data. Hopefully this new plan will work out well so I can save over half off my monthly bill. Good luck!

[Q] Which Note II to buy

Initially I thought there were two variants of Samsung Galaxy Note 2, N7100 and N7105(LTE) but it looks like there are more.
I checked the NOTE 2 at my local T-Mobile store and it was SGH-T889.
I am planning to buy a (no contract/unlocked) Note 2 with LTE support. I can buy the unlocked N7105 online but it costs $825.
I was thinking of buying the retail t-mobile SGH-T889 for $650 plus taxes but I am concerned:
1) T-mobile support told me that I will not be able to use any other SIM.
2) Even if I get it unlocked from (cellunlocker.net), will I get any carrier LTE coverage ?
I frequently travel (international) so would like to have a Note 2 which supports LTE for multiple carriers ?
As per this Anandtech, T-mobile note 2 was unlocked and it picked up ATT LTE.
Phandroid also confirmed that t-mobile supports LTE.
I had a chat with Negrielectronics support and they informed that n7105 does not support ATT LTE.
Experts, please suggest/confirm if the t-mobile note 2 will support LTE overall ?
Thanks
LTE are carrier specific in the US. US Lte are incompatible with international Lte. That's why there are different models gsm of iPhone 5.
Buy the Lte model for the place where you spend your most time.

[Q] Which version to buy for T-mobile T-zones Users?

Hi - I have the T-mobile U.S. T-zones grandfathered plan, which phone version can I buy to get 3G speeds on that data plan?
I know Note 2 has several models. Someone told me I could use the AT&T US model if I live in a area that has been refarmed (I live in Orlando, FL).
Someone then told me I should get the Canadian model but I am having a hard time finding a site that sells the Canadian model from Wind/Videotron/Mobilicity.
Thanks
Start paying for your internet like the rest of us
Nah, just kidding. But the last time I checked on the whole "smartphones with T-zones" thing was a few years ago-.at that point, it worked with any phone that didn't need a special apn(like danger or rim devices). If that still holds true, it won't matter which model of note 2 you get. Good luck.
actually I think the frequency 1700 available for T-mobile is only available on the Canadian Wind/Videotron/Mobilicity.
The U.S. AT&T device based on what I read here works if you are in T-mobile area that is reframed.

...or international version (N7100).
I purchased the 7100 and I have T-Zones. If your in a good refarmed area you will get H/H+ I'm pulling about 5-8 Mbps here in California
Hi - how I can tell if my area is refarmed, my zip is 32828. Also, will it then stay that way, I mean will T-mobile ever change the refarmed area?
Basically am inquiring if I get the 7100 model will it be useless for me with T-zones in like a few months, etc.

I'd just get a brand new international Note 2 off eBay. I got my first one for $575 under their daily deals. Check amazon as well.
Checked into Jedi-X Academy on my SGH-T889
But I would need to know if my area zip 32828 will be fine in getting 3G, also is refarmed a temp config or will they switch.

Have Note 2, considering switching from AT&T to T-Mobile. Some questions...

As the title says I have some questions:
What are the speed differences between AT&T's net work and T-Mobile's? I've read that T-Mobile doesn't have LE yet but it is coming in the near future.
Will my AT&T Note 2 be able to take advantage of T-Mobile's high speed network or do I need to switch to the T-Mobile verions? From what I've read it seems the AT&T one has all the radios to cover all the frequencies that T-Mobile uses so I should be good to go with the phone I have now but some confirmation would be nice.
Thanks.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is much faster than AT&T's. Of course there are examples where it isn't, but it's notably faster in most every market.
The AT&T version of the Note 2 only gets EDGE on T-Mobile. You want the T-Mobile T-889, unlocked, to have a true pentaband (with LTE) Note 2.

If I remember right, the att version can get hspa+21, while the tmobile version can go hspa+42.

The T-mobile version is also LTE ready when T-mobile rolls out there LTE network this year we will get an update for our T-mobile Note 2's that will enable the LTE radio.
I do feel that hspa is fast enough though. When I'm in a good coverage area, I get about 17 mbps down and 2 mbps up. I feel that is more then enough bandwidth.
So either way 4G or 4G LTE that they are slowly rolling out. I'm happy with T-mobile's network speeds.

The truth is it really differs all over. It depends who has better coverage in your area. Because what you're looking at from the carriers specs, that is max speeds your looking at. For example I have tmobile. The max speed I could get with hspa+42 is 42 mb download speed. But in reality I only get about 14-20 average. But my brother in law who lives right next door has at&t and he only gets around 5-10 averages. You should be able to find some kind of map from one carrier or the other that will give you an idea of who is going to give you the best coverage. Or find 2 of your friends who are in the same area 1 with tmo and 1 with at&t and ask them to run speed test with their phones.

Search "AWS MOD" to make your ATT note 2 i317 compatible with Tmobile 4G network.
My i317 gets about 14Mbps on Tmobile

Yeah, I've already decied to switch to T-Mobile this weekend. I did the AWS mod. Does that mean I'll have the LTE enabled when they roll it out or will I still only have HSPA speed? From the hardware specs on Wikipedia it looks like the AT&T version has all the radio bands that the T-Mobile one does.

[Q] How to enable LTE ?

Vodafone New Zealand has just rolled out 4g lte where i live (auckland) 1800mhz. The problem is they're charging twice as much for half the bandwith !! Now i believe they're providing software updates to enable lte capable devices including my own (N7100) & am wondering if anyone here knows of a workaround to hook into the network. & also what their software update would consist of (modem maybe) ? Cheers.
N7100 does not have LTE. You will not be able to use that feature. N7105 has LTE.

Just spoke to the carrier & N7100 is good to go. Apparently they need to push something from their end to the sim & i should get a 4G connection. Any ideas ??
I got my note 2 from jb hi fi and they were selling LTE Vodafone NZ model. I can't confirm if the 4g works as I am on 2 degrees. I am pretty much sure that 4g enabled phones means LTE
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
Voda's 4G is LTE. The N7100 does not have LTE-capable hardware, the N7105 variant is explicitly for the purposes of adding LTE & DC-HSPA+ support. However, Vodafone NZ do not sell the N7100, only the N7105, so if you got your Note II from Voda directly, you're good to go.
Any CSRs confused on this hardware distinction are mistaken. There is no way to enable 4G on an N7100.
If you're lucky enough to have an N7105, then you'll need their $10 4G upgrade each month, assuming you're on an eligible plan. The $120+ plans include it. Doubt anyone will be able to authenticate onto LTE without the upgrade product, it seems pretty well secured.

[Q] Getting a Note 2, T-Mobile Monthly 4G $30 plan, which N2 model is best?

I'm going to buy a Note 2, but now having trouble deciding whether to get the T-Mobile, AT&T, or 1 of the int. models; which is best suited for this plan? I've been using it on my old phone and i regularly get HSPA+. I'll also be flashing custom roms on it, so the more populated the development communities, the better.
T889 it supports both att and tmobile lte frequencies.
