"Not enough memory" even when I have plenty. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Since Chrome can't download ZIP files correctly, I have to use the Stock Browser. But when I download a ZIP, it says download unsuccessful. Then I go and tap on the file to see the issue and it says "Download failed: not enough memory."
I have like, 10+ GB avaliable on both my SD Card and Internal storage, so I don't understand the issue. The ZIP file is 22MB.
I am on FreeGS3 as well.

Are you running any App2SD apps? I had this issue when I was using one a couple months ago, and when I uninstalled that the issue went away.

See if you can get sdmaid installed and run the orphan cleaner i think it is called.

Did the Corpse Cleaner, didn't work.
Maybe I need to reboot it.
Got it to work after a reboot!

I'm new to rooting and just wanted to say thanks out load to u Tazfanatic. I was having the same problem today and followed your suggestion and seems to be working.
OK I spoke to soon. I was able to download a picture, but was trying to DL an app from design rift and it keeps telling me not enough memory. As with the original post I have plenty memory. I downloaded SD maid and did the corpse cleaner. I'm to much of a noob to start deleting stuff without guidance. I'm running the newest version of The People's ROM. I hadn't had this problem that I know of prior. Again thanks for any help that can be yielded.

Did you install any app to alter sd storage?

All I've put on here is our normal root apps...cwm ROM manager, superuser, titanium backup. I put root app delete on here and now sdmaid. I've also noticed that I'm not able to delete a file from my folder even from my sdcard I can't delete music. Says delete failed. I tried to even use sdmaid to delete an old folder that I noticed I didn't have anymore and tells me it failed I need root. Lmao I'm rooted.

Pictures, personal files, backups, your rom zip etc...
Check your back ups you should never have more than one or two back up nandroid those take huge amount of space.
Just keep in mind anything on storage is either important to you personally but not to the phone, there won't be any system files necessary to the operation of the device.

Did you flash recently and resyore with tb? Wonder if tb corrupted something which it has been known to do.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

I did flash and downloaded tb.I did a backup, but didn't really understand how to do a restore from tb. I also did a backup on clockwork mod. I didn't care for the ROM I flashed so we flashed tpr. When it asked for apps to dl I put tb as a backup app. I still couldn't figure out how to restore from tb and hit backup again. So I'm thinking tb is my nemesis here.

Try uninstalling TB then install the app you are trying to install. To use TB there is a box in the top right hand corner with a check mark that is your menu. And welcome to the TPR family.

[Q] If I put all my apps on my SD card using this method, what are the downsides?

I have a rooted AT&T Galaxy Note II.
Found this article on how to flash the phone so that apps can be put on the external SD card rather than the internal.
It looks easy. Could probably do it in under 5 minutes. The benefits, it seems, would be enormous.
Here is my major concern....
When AT&T pushes the next major update (I already have Jellybean 4.1.2), it will erase the root.
When that happens, will my phone go bezerk because the apps are not where they are supposed to be by default?
Is it always possible to immediately re-root a phone no matter what update is being pushed?
Also...
If an an app has a Google Play Store update to be downloaded, will it update the app if it is sitting on the external card?
When AT&T pushes the next major update (I already have Jellybean 4.1.2), it will erase the root.
Well if you're rooted and running a custom rom its likely the developer will take the updated source and update his custom rom, so no real reason to let your phone update from your carrier. And you can turnaround and root it again anyway.
When that happens, will my phone go bezerk because the apps are not where they are supposed to be by default?
From the article it isn't 100% clear but there was a hint that said the path was being modded so I don't anticipate your phone going berserk... And to test my hypothesis I'm gonna flash this in a minute and report back.
Is it always possible to immediately re-root a phone no matter what update is being pushed?
Yes.
Also...
If an an app has a Google Play Store update to be downloaded, will it update the app if it is sitting on the external card?
Again the article only hints to this but the only real way to know is to try it out, which I'm gonna do right now.

LittleRedDot,
Wow. How cool to have you here almost "live" testing this modification.
I am not running a custom rom. Just plain 'ol rooted on Jellybean 4.1.2.
I am also wondering if I need to copy all my files over the external SD card or this modification does it for you.
Look forward to your findings and will follow your advice before trying this. May have more questions as well. Will stay tuned.
Again, the link for everyone else watching this thread.

Ok the mod didn't work for me. I downloaded the exfat mod for custom kernel cause my sd isn't formatted and I'm running a custom kernel...
It flashed fine and upon reboot the apps went through the optimization process... Then rebooted, then was in a boot loop for 3 cycles, then got stuck on the samsung screen. I had to manually put it in recovery and restore and known good nand.

Ok I ended up downloading the fat32 for custom kernel and it work, all 234 apps are installed on my external sd freeing up over 3 gb of storage on my internal sd.
Unable to post pics right now cause the server is overloaded, but I'll edit this post when it let's me. All in all I'd say my original advice is null as I downloaded the wrong file. Good find mate.

Oh...okay...so this actually WORKS.
Now the questions...
1. Did it automatically take all your apps from your internal drive (that existed there already) and moved them to the external?
2. Does it look like any future downloads I do from the Google Play Store will automatically install the app on the external card or do I have to manually move it?
You have already assured me that if a new update is pushed to my Note II that I can immediately re-root it so my phone doesn't get screwed up with the new app locations.
Thanks for all your assistance

2. Yes any updates save to the external sd card. I confirmed this but manually updating 14 apps and they all saved to ex sd

Make sure you do a backup first and download the correct file. For you, based off what you told me, would be the fat32 for stock kernel.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Are chances pretty good I'll be okay without doing the backup? I won't hold you responsible if something goes wrong.
What do you use to backup? I use MyBackup Pro, but lately it freezes in the middle of backing up. I do have Titanium Root but I never backed up with it before so I will have to try and figure out how to do it.
But again, if things went pretty smoothly for you and I can escape a backup then for me, all the better.
And yes, I was ready to do the Fat32 kernel. That is the format I erased my card in.

If I were you, before I flash anything I would download goo manager from the play store, use it to install the latest TWRP recovery, the go into recovery and do a backup, then flash this sd card mod.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
LittleRedDot,
Having some difficulty flashing.
I downloaded both Fat32 files and got the same result. An E:signature verification failure during flash.
I think the correct file I needed for my stock Jellybean was Mod file for fat32 SD card (stock kernel with init.d support)
Downloaded it to my download directory on external card.
Rebooted into recovery mode (Power, Volume Up, Home Key)
Scrolled down to Install from Download
Found the downloaded file and selected it.
That is where I get the E:signature verification failure.
Any idea what may be going wrong here?
(BTW, backed up the phone to the external drive using Titanium Root. Hope it was okay to backup everything to the same drive I was flashing the drive from)

Script manager won't work because I didn't successfully Mod the phone.
Not sure why it is not working but every time I go into recovery mode and select APPLY UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL STORAGE
and then locate the .zip file in my download directory, I get the signature failure and the update aborts.

Scarcely a day has passed since the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One went on sale, and their software bits are already floating around online. You can grab the files to get the new red SunBeam live wallpaper, boot animation, and updated camera app on your device.
The new boot animation is a group of spinning Google-color dots. It's a nice-looking animation and it's not hard to install.
Instructions :
1.Place the ZIP in SD card
2.Go to Recovery
3.Just flash it.
Bootanimation : HERE
The camera app has the updated finger-friendly setting menu, volume toggle shutter control, and probably some other tweaks, can be installed normally : CAMERA
The live wallpaper can be installed normally. The file is right here : SUNBEAM
The camera apk wont install. Does the system camera and gallery need to be removed first?

I don't want to hijack this thread but I'm new to changing boot animations aside from using an app to successfully change my boot animation a couple years ago on my Gingerbread Droid Pro.
Love this simple animation and would love to use it. Just a couple questions.
1. Can I backup my old boot animation and sound?
2. This may be silly and I see the term thrown around multiple times daily, but what does "flashing" something mean?
3. Does this animation have any sound? Not necessary just curious
4. I only want to update the boot animation an not the rest of the things. I don't want to tinker too much with my phone or I'm sure a "bricking" would be in my very near future. Does this Zip only change the boot animation?
5. Do I need to be running a custom rom or unlocked bootloader for this to work?
I am rooted on stock rom running 4.1.1.
Sorry for the elementary questions but I am just curious. Thanks for sharing!

1. Yes. You can back them up using an app such as Root Explorer or ADB. Just copy and paste /system/media/bootanimation.zip to your SDcard.
2.
"Flashing is the term used to install something on your device, whether it’s a ROM, a kernel, or something else that comes in the form of a flashable ZIP file. It is the process of applying a firmware image or a ROM, to your device and usually entails a very specific order of steps. If you don’t follow instructions, you may end up bricking your device." -Derek Scott at Android Central

3. Nope.
4. It will only change /system/media/bootanimation.zip
5. You can flash in Safestrap if your bootloader is locked. No custom ROM is necessary.

when flashing, make sure to mount system first (wiping cache/dalvik helps too).
of course you have the wrong "zip".
unzip the file on your PC, and if you can navigate via the folders to a file named "bootanimation.zip" - then that is your actual boot animation file (this file can be added by moving it via root explorer).
Awesome thanks so much!

This is incredibly frustrating.. due to my lack of knowledge I'm sure. I unzipped the file to my PC. Copied the contents to my SD card. Wiped dalvic. Mounted system (this is the only part I was unsure if I did correctly). Clicked Install. Navigated to the bootanimation.zip file. Swiped to confirm flash. Failed.
You shouldn't have had to "unzip" anything. Just install the file in recovery as downloaded.
The instructions for unzipping would only be used if you were manually installing the animation via a file manager.
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
I have tried two ways.
1. Downloaded Google_Bootanimation-flashable_zip.zip to SD. Went to TWRP. Clicked Install. Flashed it. Failed.
2. Downloaded Google_Bootanimation-flashable_zip.zip to PC. Extracted zip. Copied contents of unzipped file including Bootanimation.zip to sd card. TWRP recovery. Clicked Install. Flashed that one zip file. Failed.
The only thing I can think of that I could be doing wrong is mounting the system.
And to be clear. Last night Step 1, unlocked bootloader. Step 2 TWRP install. Step 3, trying to flash the zip. Is there a step I'm missing? I have cleared dalvic cache a few times during the trial and error of flashing this zip.
Rooted. Stock 4.1.1.

Hey is the download 100% complete? The only times I've run into the same situation is when file didn't download all the way and failed. Running root box also. I usually download to laptop then click and drag to og

I'm not sure. I started the download and then left. I'll try downloading it again and see what happens.

Yeah, that's how I do it as well.

Good luck hope that works!
Still not showing up. I'm coming from VectuS, not sure if that matters. And I've got plenty of room on my sd card. Trying to download the 6.10.13 build test.
Another update: No ROM's are showing up. I just downloaded AOKP by Spleef and dragged it to the root of my storage, went into TWRP, and it's not there. What's the deal?
If their %100 did you click SD card then put into a folder like downloads?

No. I opened the internal storage from the computer and dragged the .zip over to that.
I may try making a folder and putting them in there and see if they show up.

Also by storage you mean the internal SD card right? You can make a folder in the SD card to put it in or if you like put it on the root of the sdcard

What I don't get is that it shows that it's on the phone in ES File Explorer. (AOKP Spleef)

Sorry been eating, the only time I had a ROM not showing up in twrp is when the file wasn't complete. If its complete and on the sdcard should show no problem, let me think bout it. Does vectus ROM show on twrp?

I'm stumped now, you could flash cwm, then flash back to twrp after flashing ROM but doesn't fix. I'm sure the ROMs are somewhere in a folder. Are you on twrp 2.5? Complete downloads and hiding in download folder or another folder my guesses

How do I flash CWM? TWRP was on this phone when I bought it, and I just started getting the hang of flashing ROMs. Is it the same for recoveries?

I can find a link, I prefer twrp, before you try downloading root browser lite app (free). And try downloading a ROM again to PC or laptop.
And also try downloading straight to phone. For phone once downloaded make sure you have gapps, then boot into twrp click install, then go to downloads to see if Roma there.( if so go back wipe cache davlik data and system, then install ROM then gapps.
From laptop PC, hook up phone make sure ROMs complete. Open up SD card folder above storage then drag ROM and gapps to download and flash sorry if this is messy I'm multi tasking.....

Yes clockworkmod recovery is like team win recovery partition. I'll look for a flash able version, I've been flashing ROMs for alil while but new posting here, mostly trying to he able to post in development section to find ppl to work on rootbox started by LaSalle but he left and spleef is trying to start.
Make sure downloads from unknown sources is allowed under settings/security also.
I'll try to help as much as I can, downloading straight to phone should work with goo manager( free plays store)

That's the exact ROM I'm trying to get. I'll download goo manager and try straight to the phone and let you know how that goes.

Well, AOKP shows up in Root Browser as well. No idea why it doesn't show up in TWRP.

Its a mystery try putting aokp into a folder the looking in that folder in twrp. Also when you download root box instead of using browser for download use goo manager and it should go straight into download folder under SD card

I don't know which to download, none say LaSalle.

Just go to the root box page and download from there, when you click on the link it'll ask from like chrome, browser and goo manager....click goo manager and wait til it downloads if it fails try again

Like the link you posted in the beginning download from there, and it'll actually download to the goo manager folder

[SOLVED]Titanium backup 4.3

Hey ladies and gents of the xda community, so I installed factory image 4.3 for maguro (without g wallet) flashed my twrp 2.6 and then used the supersu exploit that was made labeled [SuperSU-JWR66N-S005-130625-1.41.zip] to root my phone, yay it worked(kinda), tried titanium backup to remove system apps like Google currents and was told could not locate apk. So I searched and searched and found this post that the same op said to download [UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.43.zip] so I flashed that.
This is what I keep getting from TB:

Is it just titanium backup? Or the root exploit?
My build is the JWR66V for maguro(obviously).
Can anyone help? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
SOLUTION EDIT : apparently it IS titanium backup. I manually removed them with root explorer (/system/app, /data/app) and it went great.

It's titanium backup use any root browser to remove the apps i assume you can get Jrummy's root browser it can remove those files, why it says it can not locate file is due to being removed once "with titanium backup" the apps are being moved to /data/app/ thats why tb can't find the apps located since its "magically moved" to /data/app/ kind of strange and i think its Superuser or App issue from Titanium backup 4.3 that isn't fully compatible
Do you guys also face issues restoring from tb in 4.3? I find that most of my restored apps with data do not work.

Did you change the location of backup folders? If so I'm not entirely sure. I used TB to uninstall apps, I usually just backup all my android/data and android/obb on my PC by copying with USB, never really liked using an app for backups. I tried on stock 4.3 and it didn't work so I just located them myself with my root file manager program.
Sorry I'm not of much help, I'll see what links I can dig up!
Thanks! Actually I need titanium backup more for restoring apps like games and kindle where I want to pick up where I left. No worries, I think it is a titanium backup problem, which will probably be gone when they update their app for android 4.3

Flashed 4.3 yakju full google image few days ago an never had problem using titanium backup on 4.3, still works fine when backing up an restoring apps like it normally would on previous android builds.

Works fine here on 4.3, titanium backup has always worked like normal on 4.3 for me an I haven't had to change or fix a thing.
Hmmm, that's weird, I also flashed 4.3 from the yakju factory image via fast boot (and wiped my data too). I also changed the backup path from 0 to legacy. Did you try uninstalling systems apps using tb? Mine will give an error and I had to delete the apps manually via file explorer.

I never wiped my data when flashing the yakju 4.3 factory image as mskip toolkit gives you the option to keep it like a normal ota would do even when flashing full factory image.

My tibu backup folder location is still in 0 location not legacy an system apps can be uninstalled an restored just fine on 4.3.
Interesting point, though i just to check and my 0 and legacy folders are still mirrors of each other (as it was in 4.2), so I can access my tb folder in either and I'm not sure if the problem is here... Actually I wiped my sd card intentionally to start 4.3 on a clean state, thought this would result in the least number of problem...

Yeah I'm not sure either, I also flashed the Google yakju with fastboot and I DID try uninstalling a system app with TB first. Maybe that created my problem. @fux0r99 that's pretty cool that nothings wrong with your setup, however WE are having something go wrong so please refrain from telling us how great yours is running.
However thank you for the folder information, it all helps!

Apparently titanium backup is trying to resolve the issue now. U can find it's test build via the link in this tweet: https://twitter.com/TitaniumBackup/status/361582620468985856
So far removing system apps works great but I'm not sure if restoring data is normal...

Have you checked to see how many NANDROID backups you have made on
your internal sdcard?
If you have made many of them, then that could be why you you get that error.
Each nandroid takes up over 3GB of space on your internal sdcard which is
where these large games store all their data during the instillation process.
The three most space consuming items are nandroid backups, movies and videos.
Good luck!
so where exactly could I find the back ups with a file explorer app?

It's usually in a folder with the same name as your recovery. Example, TWRP or CWM. If you used ROM Manager to handle your backup it's hidden. mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup
