[Q] Is there any way to disable the mtp storage? [SOLVED] - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people, this is my first post here!
First, if I commit a mistake writing this, is because mi english is not very good XD
I have the ace 2 for about two weeks with hafidzduddin HD kernel on it :B
Ok, the problem is the bloody mtp, I want the classic android usb storage app, but I only find solutions for specific phones, like the SGSII or galaxy note, and, if I have a option on my phone I can't see it :silly:
if helps I have the last stock ROM from Samsung (XXLI2) and obviously rooted e.e
I want the classic usb storage because I cant move files through directories, and a lot of directories appear to be empty when I see my phone storage on my computer, for only one file, adb is good, but when i have a lot of files...
Thanks!

No way? any idea? :crying:

Hello,
If you look under wireless and network settings, and choose the usb utilities option, you should see the option for 'classic' mass storage there.

How to disable MTP?

Hey guys.
Sorry if this is a n00bish question or has been asked before but I couldn't find any answer.
Can this "MTP" thing be turned off so that the Windows detect the phone as a normal USB Mass Storage like the Android phones that I had before. (You know, roll down the notification bar, selecting Connect USB and all rather) because it seems that MTP doesn't show some of the folders. (Not to mention that you can't even customize the folders)
I`m using Android Revolution HD with the stock kernel by the way.
Thanks. Much appreciated and sorry for my bad English.

No it cannot. Not until someone creates a separate sdcard partition to be able to mount it. sdcard is simply a symlink to /data/media.

[CM9] Can we enable MTP?

Like the title, I'm asking if there is a way to use MTP in CM9 for our device, like this.
Arco says that the MTP is a problem in every Samsung device with a CM9 but for GS2 for example is fixed.
No one knows how to make it working?
Thanks in advantage, and i'm sorry if I'm in wrong section or if isn't a considerable problem
i got a bug on that.. i think it is also affected by USB tethering..
My question is: Do you really *need* MTP?
If what you're after is a simple way to transfer files from/to the SDcard, I recommend using AirDroid instead.

take a look at 'Multi mount sd' or 'dual mount sd' at store, they solve the problem alternatively to native android connection, both cards are visible either on phone or on pc

How to disable MTP?

I know there must be multiple posts on this, but after an hour, I'm striking out. I found a .ZIP for a GSII, but that did not work.
Any ideas?

SGS3 EASY UMS (look for it here [free version] or in the play store [donate version]) mounts your phone as Universal Mass Storage rather than MTP if you want that option.

Couldn't we just use the *#7284# to access the utility menu and change it that way?
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G
Sorry new to this. But would this have any negative effects if I used the above app to change to usb mass to download music from my computer? Mtp is slow and media monkey scans the whole phone before it syncs. Could I just keep it set to usb or would something not work after that?

HELP! Turn off storage: Galaxy Amp
I don't know if this is the right thread to put this but anyway...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Amp, a much cheaper, much watered-down version of the Galaxy Series, and I have been trying to enable default installation of apps to the external sd card. However, adb devices won't recognize my device because (I think) MTP storage is on.
I Have USB debugging on and the the device works fine over USB. However there is no way to disable storage from the phone's settings. It will automatically enter MTP storage on connection and I can't unmount it from the PC.
To be clear I want to disable ALL storage on the phone, not enable mass storage
Much of the menu options, style, setup, etc are similar to the s3. Any help would be appreciated.
*Also MTP is my best guess of why adb devices won't detect it, if it's something else insight on that will be much appreciated as well, thanks.

Sounds more like a driver issue to me. Click on "Drivers" in my sig and download and install the latest drivers. Then go to device manager, find where it shows your device, right click it and Update Drivers.
If that doesnt work, you can also try the UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi. Though after installing this, you may have reinstall the Samsung drivers again later in order to use MTP/UMS or Odin.
Normal operation for me, I can connect using ADB and still have access to the phones storage at the same time.
Thanks!

Thanks! This worked great! The reason i thought it was MTP is because most articles make a point of telling you to turn off storage. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place and thanks again.

[Q] Don't see my HOX as external drive after installing JB Rom

Sorry if this was answered before, I couldn't find an appropriate thread for that.
So I installed latest OrDroid 2.7.5, everything went smoothly and works fine for now.
But I have issues trying to connect the phone to my PC and access internal storage.
Once I connect the USB cable I get the usual "USB Connected - Tap to change settings". Once I press it I get the "Portable hotspot & tethering" instead of the window where I choose charge/USB only.
In My Computer it appears as Digital Camera "HTC One X", but not as Removable drive as it was before.
Any ideas how to access the storage again?
Thanks in advance
This is not specific for ordroid but
Check under
Settings
Storage
Usb computer connection ( in three dotmenu or context menu)
It should be mtp or mass storage.

Thanks, but that is also a problem. I cannot find the Usb computer connection settings anywhere under the Storage. There's no 3dotmenu or context menu available either.
Found the answer to my question in one of the ROMs thread. Can be closed.
Care to repeat it here?
sure but it didn't really solve the problem, just helped me understood what's the reason for that

will have to try on my other PC with Win7 to see if it works.
Another option - go to Recovery and connect your phone to PC. This way it appears in My Computer as HTC Storage. Not the most convenient method, but still better than nothing.
any one know of any fix for this yet? i'm on mac and cannot mount sd card other than going into recovery. pain in the ass, every time i plug it in to my dock htc sync link pops up, tried installing it it but it's ****e, still doesnt allow direct access to sd.
If its not installed it pops up as a link, if it is installed it pops up the app. pain if i only want charge.
Really annoys me when they remove common used features.
Someone at HTC must have sat and had a thought, yes they have 32gb non removable sd card but it's highly unlikely they ever want access to it, lets take the option away.
There's no 'fix' as HTC has changed the storage from USB MS for MTP - unless they change it back there's not a lot you can do
EDIT: This might help...

Thanks, may have to revert to ics then, this is a big flaw for me, do a lot of transferring files to and from sd, cant be ****ed with entering recovery everytime.
Out of curuosity, would it be the same on AOSP jelly bean roms?
Guess i could try BT transfers

you can't mount sd card while using the phone unfortunately... you need to mount it from recovery

Xperia S Deleted sdcard folder and general panic

While meaning to transfer all my junk from my old Xperia S to my laptop, I found the then foreign looking sdcard folder, empty save for another folder whos name I now forget, and deleted it, not knowing the havoc that would ensue.
The appocalypse happened as a result, and I can no longer find any of the 15gigglebytes of files I meant to back up. The internal storage says it's empty, no trace of the files in either the phone or via my laptop.
After reading through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080449 I downloaded SDmount and tried recovering the files with Recuva, but upon selecting Mount as Mass Storage in SDmount my computer won't recognise my phone at all, it doesn't react in any way once I've plugged in the usb cable, other than charging the phone.
Am I doing something terribly wrong? Is there any method I've missed? Is it possible to undo the damage by somehow restoring the sdcard folder?
Please help, I am at wits end here. It is a rooted Xperia S with android 4.1.2, my laptop is running windows 8.
I guess no,you can't recover it

Is you for real?
EDIT: I have made progress. While reading through the SDmount thread it dawned on me that I had not turned on USB debug mode. My laptop now recognises my phone as an undefined mass storage device.
Now the lingering question is, should I wait for further directive from more helpful posters, or should I give Recuva or Photorec a try?
EDIT2: Photorec is doing its magic! It's ripping files out of that thing like a snowblower. Absolutely beautiful. No pictures yet, mostly .ogg files and the five demo movies you see running on demonstration phones in stores, but it's something!
