[APP][FLIP LAUNCHER] quick app access [2.1+] - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Android devices are meant for multitasking. Some devices, like the Galaxy Note 2,
are specifically designed to launch two apps, or more, at the same time.
The Google Play Store also offers a variety of multitasking apps to allow
you to multitask on your device. The FlipLauncher app is a multitasking app
that allows you to group your favorite apps or shortcuts and access them
from wherever on your device.
get the extremely usefull app HERE
When you launch FlipLauncher in portrait mode, 6 colored bars (i use one) will appear
on the left side of your screen. These bars serve as your virtual drawer
containing your apps and shortcuts. Just swipe to open those bars.
You can set up to 4 apps or shortcuts on each bar, giving you a total
of 24 apps or shortcuts.

The app also allows you to personalize the bars on your device’s screen.
You can change a bar’s color, adjust its width, set its placement, and
set its opacity. You can even disable one or two bars. These virtual drawers
really look like the Multi Window feature of the Galaxy Note 2 but arranged horizontally.
The app also has a different layout when you hold your device in landscape mode.
In this screen orientation, 4 colored bars (again i only use one) will appear on the left
side of the screen. Each bar allows you to place 6 apps or shortcuts, giving you still a
total of 24 apps.Just like the previous orientation, you can still change a bar’s color,
transfer the bar to the opposite side, adjust its width, and set its opacity. You can also
remove some bars according to your liking.

Just got done downloading and messing around with it. A+ app. I love this app. It is so nice to be able to have all those shortcuts right at your fingertips regardless of what screen or app you are in.
Thanks for your hard work.

at first I was thinking UGH...Another Launcher. I love my ADW.. But this is is a VERY cool app. and the best part is is works alongside my ADW!!! ill have to load it up later this evening. I like a clean home screen.

I'm having issues with your app. It allows me to pull the tray out once but then after that when untouched the tray I just get a small haptic feedback and nothing else. I have to close it.
Sent from my Galaxy S 3 with Tapatalk.

Found this App, in the market. Comparative to the one listed earlier, but I find this one easier to use.

will it work alongside Nova Launcher?
i'm running nova launcher on my gNote and love it, but i'd like to have this running in addition to it. i hesitate to run two launchers at the same time, and am wondering if this hesitation is justified? (i see the comment above about ADW launcher but my question still stands if it's a good idea or not)

ok, it runs well with nova and that's good. i'm guessing there is no way to add toggles to it like for wifi, data, etc. is this something that will be added in the future?

Hey guys what launcher does everyone use? I love the app draw but with Google search and the large dock it seems to fill most the screen?

I use the standard launcher. Dont see the point in changing the launcher myself.
Adw
I'm using the above. Used to use launcher pro and this previously. This opens up a bit more screen, you still lose the top but can select no dock. I like a minimal look
Using stock atm. Have to admit laucnher pro looks awesome on the massive screen but I missed the stock app drawer eye-candy-ice-cream goodness...
I quite like that slidescreen pro but find it a little impractical.
I love the stock one, but the only thing that annoys me is the fact you can't delete empty home screens!
Using ADW Ex
ADW Ex, because I can customize it the way I want and because I can backup settings, handy when flashing ROMs and wiping data often.

Funny, thats exactly the way ADW looks like on my Transformer. Weird to have the App Drawer at the top left but I've adjusted. The developer was supposed to include options to hide the top section.
What I do, for the bottom dock, is use the Second dock. The second dock allows lots of icons. I think I have like 15 on my transformer's 10" screen. I just learned to use the built in app drawer icon at the top.
This might be awkward with 1 handed operation though.
So that strange section at the top is automatically added when you use a 3rd Party Launcher? What are the icons on the right side of it for? The one in the middle seems to be a gallery icon
ADW EX
Then go into presets, and select FAST
my goodness, this option brings another meaning to FAST!
I'm using go launcher because I didn't like the large dock and not being able to use the whole screen. The transition effects are awesome.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to post screen shots of the launchers used to give people an idea of how they look?
I'm not sure how to do it.
I go to the upload from gallery bit. it says
Upload via tap talk then it brings up some stuff with img and lots of numbers
Then I say submit and it doesn't do it?

What is this Second dock?
An app to replace the default dock from the default launcher?

I've reverted to the stock ICS launcher after trying Go, which I'd use (and love) on my CM7 Desire. I like how slick ICS is, but would love to be able to choose the number of homescreens as well have them loop. The quick and tidy stock folder system is excellent, a real shame Go Launcher loses that.
Didn't like the action bar at the top of ADW EX on my Transformer, like it even less on a phone.
Hopefully launcher devs will throw themselves into ICS-centric products sooner rather than later. The modded Gingerbread look seems so old hat now!
I prefer the stock ICS launcher.
I'd like to be able to customize the number of home screens, but outside of that, it does everything I need.
I advise Go Launcher EX! ICS+Go launcher are working perfectly together
ADW had an update yesterday. It look spretty good. Personally, I don't favor the ICS launcher...
ADW EX has been updated for ICS. Now uses HW Acceleration. No more top bar...

[HOWTO]Customize your Lockscreen with Widgetlocker

I didn't find a thread dedicated to customizing your lockscreen, tought it might be a good idea to post a quick how-to in case some people didn't know about this yet. I've gotten a lot of help from this community so I wanted to give something back, even if it's something small
So the Widgetlocker app allows you to modify your lockscreen, you can add app shortcuts, widgets, sliders, actions, change the background and a bunch of other stuff.
1. Download the Widgetlocker app.
2. Open the app, get into the "tool mode" (tutorial has a good explanation on the different modes).
3. Long press on the screen and there you can choose to add a custom slider, application shortcut or widget.
4. For custom sliders chose ICS theme to make it look like stock, then long press and click edit. You can add up to 4 different actions/shortcuts/applications.
Here are some screenshots of mine, nothing fancy, just 2 extra sliders with 4 apps each. Added flashlight and sound toggle to the default slider and weather widget below the clock.

Haven't experienced any battery drain so far. The app was a bit quirky at first but checking the "Root Helper" option in advanced settings and disabling the default lockscreen helps a lot.
Good info for those who don't know about it, gabster21. As an addition, there's eleventy billion (no, really, there's so many that they had to create a new index on Google Docs) WidgetLocker themes in this thread, with support from the dev here. BTW the dev is the always-awesome and responsive [email protected], who is responsible for Nova Launcher, which even in beta whoops the stock launcher's butt, so if you haven't already, be sure to thank hi as well as gabster21 and zHk3R.

I had a look at those earlier but forgot to add that to the first post.. done it now, thanks!
Another cool feature, useful for advanced users (especially those with root): If you go into WL's settings menu and hold the volume-down button for a couple seconds, you get an additional menu of "experimental" settings. But as the title says, they really are experimental, which means they're unsupported and may not work or even break functionality.
When the ICS slider is at the bottom it expands very small, much smaller than the stock bubble (where the selections sit). But when the slider is moved up from the bottom of the grid it expands all the way, giving a longer travel from the center before a toggle is selected. Does anyone know why this is?
EDIT: I would delete this if I could figure out how. The circle expands less because I had a shortcut on the bottom which would get cut off if it expanded more.
Hello droids
I completely forgot how to customize the maingrid of the app.
In my previous setup i had clock, battery % and (eventually) battery status charging (like gabster21 lockscreen)
I need phosphoreus, but how to config again in this way?
Thanks
Ok for now i solved by an experimental function (hold down volume button in settings menu) but i would know still how i did that customization in the maingrid...

Vertical scrolling launcher

I created some image tiles for my home screen; something similar to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",

}
However I'm trying to make it function more like the Android Market home screen, where you scroll vertically as opposed to horizontally.
I'm using Go Launcher EX and as far as I've gathered none of the launchers I've tried have the option to scroll vertically.
Does anyone know of any launchers that have that ability?
Nice!
When you manage to get that thing together i will test drive the hell out of it for you. Windows 7 themed launcher moves up and down. There may be others though so don't quote me on it

I tried Win 7 Launcher previously but you're only limited to tiles 1x1 or 1x2 & some of the tiles that come preconfigured are locked onto the screen (i.e you can't remove them).
Actually what I'm doing is nothing really more then creating tiles & placing them onto the screen. I wish though that I did know how to create a launcher, I'm just using a pre-existing one, though none have the vertical scrolling feature that I would like.
Can you decompile it make the necessary mods repack sign and test? I know I am making it sound easy. I know nothing of developing so I can be of much help.

Dude have you already found yourself a vertical scrolling launcher? I want exactly what you described. It would be AWSOME with desktop visualizer.
Please let me know
No luck as of yet. Hopefully one off the existing launchers will incorporate that function in the future
Request
Why not send out some request to the devs of some of the launchers I am sure someone can make it for you.

Well it is a vertical launcher but after messing with it for awhile it does not allow me to remove the preset icons (you can only remove ones you create) & if using tiles you cannot get them to align in such a manner that they touch end to end. I was hoping to use the launcher to create tiles of my own using Desktop Visualizer. This is what I have created using Go Launcher, just want the home screens to scroll vertically. My ultimate goal is to create a home screen that scrolls vertically & create something that looks very similar to the Android Market:
I have send an email to the golauncher developers too and vot one back. But i think it's just a standard reply so i don't expect any luck there
EL TEJANO i want exactly the same thing. I've spend so many hours on the Internet searching with no luck. It's getting frustrating. I really hope golauncher or any other good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro can add this function
So this thread is dead now?

[APP][Launcher] ICS Trebuchet Launcher

This is just the vanilla launcher from 20120617 CM9 Nightly for Tenderloin (HP Touchpad). No features has been added (yet). Incase you don't know, Trebuchet is the name for the stock CM9 launcher. See screenshots below for differences:

There should be no dependencies.
However try integrating it into the firmware (it was designed to work from /system/app)- ICS does restrict launcher behaviour if it is not a system app (like for Apex- you can't put a widget from Drawer if it's a user app)

No, it is for all screen sizes (well, maybe except qvga but I didn't test this)
Like Trebuchet Concept, Looking Forward
Once I figured out how to use it, I kind of like the minimalist approach. Dragging app icons and widgets to the screens is much quicker than click, click, find, click, ... and the widget re-sizing dot feature touted in Jellybean is already there (but can be applied asymmetrically for some strange results).
However, this thing is still primitive. No properties except wallpapers.
I put on adw (former XDA launcher) just to have a more usable system. I do not look for fancy eye-candy like go. Just some simple properties like:
Grid density--I like fitting more icons on the page (I find the adw refitting not the best so leave that unchecked).
Along with this, might need the widget auto-refit idea from Jellybean.
Number of home screens (elementary).
Last but not least, a backup and restore.
Another interesting idea I got by accident in another launcher: superimpose icon over larger widget. When clicked, takes precedence, of course. Since screen real-estate, especially in smaller phones, is at a premium, this could be a "killer."
Two bugs I found:
Possible to place two icons in same place on app bar. Embarrassing.
Widgets did not "come back" after reboot sometimes.
Got a Nice Version!
There are multiple versions around for download, without any systematic way of choosing other than: The Biggest Has More Features Implemented. I found a 10 meg version in a flash-able zip that has most of what I wanted already there!
Still needs a backup and save, and important: way of resetting as the default launcher
The general widget re-sizing works great, even re-positioning to a halfway spot so the re-sizing makes sense. Great.
Minor bugs around:
The news and weather widget re-sizing works incorrectly. ADW does it fine.
Icon label text is cut off (at least on 5-row view). Vertical padding makes it worse. Needs be tucked in closer to the icon.
I might assume that a somewhat larger apk is around somewhere with more features and fixes. Once I can get it again as default launcher, I will play with it some more.
It did not passed on my 7 inch tablet :-( There is margins at the bottom and top with a height of regular icon size.

Question Possible gestures on homescreen?

Many of us need to make use of the taskbar functionality and hence, are forced to make the switch to one UI home from our favorite launchers.
I am looking to add some homescreen gestures to quickly access apps for eg. Double tap to email, swipe up to google keep etc.
Anyone knows how closest we can get to having these gesture shortcuts using one ui?
Not a simple way unfortunately. Miss the Nova shortcuts I used to use. But the task bar is kinda worth it for me at least at the moment.
Yeah. Totally. Taskbar is almost indispensable.
I wonder why samsung didn't add native gestures to the home ui.
Check out the other thread where there's a solution identified to having both the Taskbar + Nova. I'm still sticking with One UI (for now!) because I don't want to lose the real estate of the nav keys on the home screen, Nova always refreshes/lags when you open the inner diplay, and Nova doesn't use the inner display efficiently if you want to have it mirrored on the outer display and look reasonable.
The one thing I'm missing with One UI is the gestures, for me it's more about replicating a gesture to call on Sesame Search or Finder search with two-finger swipe down, which is muscle memory for me. I have the Sesame widget on my home screen but if I'm not on the first page, then I have to go home and then click the widget - meh.
Otherwise I'm totally OK with One UI, I've managed to have custom icons the way I like and the variable grid sizes, while not ideal, are sufficient, all without the current Nova downsides on the F4.
The nova + taskbar option you mentioned is not exactly the full taskbar experience.
For gestures, use one hand operation app and have side swipes anywhere on the device.
The muscle memory thing, yeah! That's difficult to argue against.

Fair enough, works for me, after all can get to pretty much everything using sesame, but understand why. If you drag the sesame icon to a screen side and search for app/whatnot and press enter the action opens in that screen space as well.

It's just about clicks. I don't want to search for Phone, Spotify, Outlook, Signal or Camera 1000x a day , but you make a valid point too!
I've been searching high and low in the Play Store for a broad gesture app, but zero luck so far.
Camera = dbl power, can't remember the last time didn't launch cam that way. So suppose that's the one I'm using

I don't take that many pictures, i guess it's just always there (in the dock) if the phone is on so don't need to even think about it. Going to give it a try though, probably easier to get used to having sesame always in the dock and reminding myself to double-press the power button for a pic, than the alternative of tracking down sesame to find an app 100x a day!
