[Q] Does the AT&T Note 2 support 42mbps on T-Mobile's Network? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Does the AT&T Note 2 support 42mbps on T-Mobile's Network? Do both Note 2's have the same radio; or is T-Mobile's radio on the Note 2 superior?
According to Anandtech; both AT&T and T-Mobile variants have similar internals' If they have identical internals how come the T-Mobile one can do more 3G bands and 42mbps 3G? Does this mean that an unlocked AT&T variant can work on T-Mobiles 42mbps too?

The ATT version does not have the 1700 band that TMobile uses on most of its network. So for the most part no.
TMobile is refarming its 1900 band to 3G though in limited areas. If you are lucky enough to be in those areas, then maybe.

It's not even about the bands is it? ATT Note just doesn't SUPPORT DC-HSPA.
I'm on Bell which one of the couple carriers that also offer 42+ Mbps on compatible devices and just in a quick speed test, not reaching double digits which is usually typical when bandwidth is available.

Correct me if I'm wrong, are the LTE radios on both the TMobile Note 2 and AT&T Note 2 exactly same hardware, by Qualcomm? I can't seem to verify, since the T-Mobile's Note 2 is pentaband

Its silly, because the article on AnandTech makes it seem that both T-Mobiles and ATT's radio antennas are the same, but they are not.

Thought on 4g signal strength

Im not a cellular network engineer but I have some experience with corporate wireless networks. We are in the midst of the holiday season and people are crowding around shopping areas, buying their first 4g device, and Verizon is still building out their LTE network. I wonder if towers are load balancing users based on increased density.
Increased 4g subscribers
A still growing network
Maybe Verizon is getting to a point where they need to play catch up.
Today I was in a shopping area where I'd normally get -75 db on LTE. I got -102. I drove across town where there were far fewer people and got -74db. I had no problem maintaining this signal strength inside our local Kroger.
Let me know your thoughts and remember its not fair to compare a CDMA signal strength to LTE signal strength. They are different broadcasts and frequencies. Since (as I believe to be true) LTE can hold more clients per tower Verizon may not have LTE on every tower in LTE coverage areas just yet. We are still in the deployment.
maybe it was -76 but you get the point.

Xperia SL crappy speeds on tmobile

I can only pick up HSDPA where I live, are these speeds normal? They seem pretty low to me. The SUPER low ones are Edge. I really wish they would hurry up and finish their restructure.

I agree, I'll actually get complete service dropouts in Houston on my acro s.
Sean
The Xperia s is only 14.4mbps hsdpa
Its not a phone for downloading stuff
But you should probably get faster speeds
You need to get a 42mbps device imo.
Even 21mbps is kinda sucky depending on networks
But I'm not from the U.S
I think the average I get from a good carrier is around 3 -7mbps and on my HTC one xl I get 7 - 10 on average. Faster upto 15mbps in dc hspda area
Isn't it more compatible on AT&T networks? Or are you in an area where they upgraded the T-Mobile networks?

I'm in an upgraded area. Before all we had where I live is edge.
What's really weird is that when I went to florida I picked up 3g, but here in socal all I get is HSDPA. Does the network use different frequencies there or something?
Houston is the same, it on their new structure but not all over.

This is in Sugar Land, TX. Looks like it does work!! Haven't done a speed test, since my phone is on a prepaid plan on 2G speeds Might be able to find someone with an unlimited plan and try to run one later!
Just wanted to share that there is finally some proof that it will work on T-Mo LTE
------Edit------
Clarification: I'm using a US Version AT&T Lumia 900 that was unlocked by an AT&T supplied code.
Not too impressive, faster than HSPA+ here. But it did just come on lol.
Did you change any setings or just insert the sim card ?

Changed my APN from epc.tmobile.com to fast.t-mobile.com, that's all. You think there was more I should have done?

no I was just curious
I also would like to say that I was so surprised when I saw LTE on my phone. Right now I'm in Baltimore and I just unlocked my L900. First I saw no bars on my phones, so I was a little scared. But after a couple of seconds I saw 4G (what was surprising enough), and then LTE. I couldn't believe. I used to have L810 in TMobile, but this was so surprising.

LTE Newark NJ

LTE WENT LIVE IN NJ @ 7:19AM AND ITS CRAZY FAST. NYC SHOULD BE NEXT IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY WENT LIVE.
I WAS doing some coding on the new AIDE app and I lost service for a sec then LTE kicked in. I been on it all day.

That's equivalent to Verizon's LTE I was getting in New Brunswick, NJ. Out in East Brunswick I would occasionally get 50 mbps on Verizon's LTE and my ex would get the same on AT&T's LTE, now that's crazy fast but still this is pretty damn good. Apparently we have it here too in Mount Laurel, NJ because the other night just for the hell of it I switched the network mode to LTE/GSM/WCDMA when I was home in Vineland just to see if I could get it and was still on HSPA. I was wondering why my signal kept dropping out on my morning commute, I just looked now and it's because I'm connected to an LTE tower but there isn't an IP address. So they weren't bull****ting 2 weeks ago when the T-Mobile rep said that we'd have it soon in NJ, even though Verizon has been telling me for over a year that my city would be getting LTE "soon".
Looks like T-Mobile is on a roll...

Does the bar show LTE when in an LTE area or still indicates 4G?
(I'm in Linden NJ)
(Never mind .... found a photo in another thread with the answer)

Unlocked Note II Help

Would the T889 Note II unlocked work with AT&T's LTE frequencies? (T-Mobile Version)
No, it works the other way, I.e. if you have an att note 2 (i317), then you can install aws mod to it so it will connect to tmovile lte band

Yes I have one working perfect with LTE. And I didn't do no AWS mod either. It had the original TMO modem on there and all I would get was 4g but no LTE.
So then I changed the modem to T889UVBMB4. Then what popped up when I'm in LTE area 4glte...
What modem is on your device now?
That's the question?? If stock then you should have the J2, unless it got updated then you might have the latest modem. Which is the MD1
But here's a link to where I pulled my modems from that I use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
So if your rooted just flash in recovery, the second to the latest modem release. And tell me if you get your LTE service working.
