Keyboard changing to Mini-Mode - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, this is Driving me NUTS about the note 2.
I will be typing on the keyboard, and itl just switch to left or right handed mode. I then have to go to settings and disable left / right hand mode, and go back to typing.
2 mins later pressing some typing combination it does it again....
What controls this damn thing, nothing in the samsung help says anything about gestures or how it turns to small mode.
I like the keyboard and am now feeling forced to download a new one because i simply cannot be forced to go to settings and disable (left right hand mode) every 2 mins of typing.
how do fix this?

Pinch to zoom in/out.
If you pinch on the stock/default keyboard it goes into "mini" mode.
Pinch out and it goes back to normal mode.

This function "One-handed" input is activated by pinching or by the settings menu. You cannot however disable it. Weird indeed.

I've landed in mini keyboard a few times. Any pointers on the pinching, as all I end up doing is typing random letters.

Yeah they really should have made it to where you can actually disable it. I did it a couple times when I first go the phone, but then I put my swiftkey on there and didn't have to worry about it anymore.

This is so ridiculously awesome, thank you for pointing out the feature! I am finding fewer and fewer reasons to stick with the Swype Betas.

just try a few times, when i first did it, it didnt work either.
its super awkward and i wish this feature could be totally removed, i do it every 2-3 mins of typing.
i think i will be forced to dl another keyboard app.

I turned it off in settings and haven't had it happen since.

[Q] Screen too sensitive

My Acer A100 (love it to pieces) but my screen is a little too sensitive. On my A500, under Settings/Screen there is a option to change but I haven't found anything on my A100.
Any suggestion?
What do you mean it is too sensitive? I didn't know that was possible.
I find it too sensitive too. Always double typing letters with thumb keyboard and unintentionally clicking when trying to scroll. I didn't realize there was an option to adjust on my A500, but i haven't found a need for it on that tab. I've looked for apps that might help, but no luck.
I agree that the unintentional entry into threads while scrolling seems to be a reault of over sensitivity. Starts to become rather annoying after a while.

Glad to see I am not the only one. I suppose that does not offer a solution on how to make it tolerable.

One thousannd dtimes this. I could type on my trannsformmer with thumb keyboard like a champ. With tthis thing, I have to type soo painstakingly to avoid ddouble keypresses.
The above was not exaggerated for dramatic effect.
You can put a screen protector on it. That will reduce the sensitivity.
THAT. Is a good idea.
I have put a screen protector; also as suggested by Acer tech support, removed the sticker from the side. Still too sensitive for my liking.
I also find too sensitive and have a screen protector installed. I also find it hard to click on links. If there are two links close by I always click on the one that I did not intend to. Seems its a little off. Anyone have this problem?

I have had my a100 for 2 months now. I really like it but what I find irritating is the inconsistent screen response. Most of the time it is too sensitive that it toes a letter multiple times or the back button will go back more than one screen. Other times I have to hit a link or a button a couple of times before it responds. Sometimes I hit a link and a link adjacent to it will be launched. I also have problems with scrolling a it will launch a link instead of scrolling. I already have a screen protector but it did not improve things.
I was just about to start a new thread for this, but it seems like a common problem with the A100.
Scrolling through my dropbox is nearly IMPOSSIBLE, every time I try to scroll, it clicks a link.
Also, trying to long press a item can be difficult, because it will treat it like a click instead of a long press.
I was having the same problem too!
I found out that after disabling SwiftKey X tablet keyboard returned the Acer to a great state of sensitivity level.
This might be the same thing, but with another keyboard or something.
I was constantly pressing the wrong icons and doing unintentional actions while scrolling!!!
I hope this could help.
how did you disable it the swift keyboard?
Sent from my A100 using xda premium
jahciple,
You either uninstall it from My App in Market App. Or uncheck the keyboard from input methods.
I hope that works for you!
Please post your feedback and share it with us!
nm i thought you were referring to the stock keyboard.

I think the problem when scrolling and it accidentally selecting is because the touch screen loses connection with your finger and thinks you lifted it off and then touched it again. If you download multitouch vis and test touch sensitivity by running your finger from side to side that the colored dots will flicker or sometimes disappear as if you lifted yout finger off. So I think its not because its too sensitive but less sensitive. This happens more if you just lay the tablet down on a surface so only your finger is touching it. If you touch the bezel with your other hand it as you touch test with the other then it will respond better. This could possibly be grounding issue.

Definitely having this problem on mine. This is really the only issue I have with the device, and it's quite frustrating!
Same here. Sometimes when I'm scrolling on the home screen it either scrolls backwards or scroll two pages over (skipping one page). Anyone else have the issue? As for the other issues (clicking links while scrolling) I experience those too. I really love the device too. I was gonna get the Nook Tablet but I gott this for cheaper and it's just as good if not better.
Sent from my A100 using xda premium
i think we need to bring this up to acers attention. Im sure its just a matter of software update. When the original evo 4g came out it had touch screen issue where it wouldnt respond correctly unless your touching the device with your other hand. It was fixed via software update. Same thing happens with this device. Again download multitouch vis and you can test touch sesitivity while laying it on a surface while running one finger all across the screen you will see it flicker as if its not recognizing complete touch. But once you hold the device up with the other hand while touching the screen with the other then it doesnt flicker.

Keyboard disappearing lag - when in a message then pressing home

Even before flashing a new ROM I was getting this lag. When you're in a message with the keyboard showing then press home, the messaging app clears but the keyboard stays up for literally like a full second then disappears. Yet, if you are within a message and go back out of the message (press upper left) it has no issue disappearing as it should.
Any way to fix this, it's really annoying.
Had the same thing. No matter which rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yep same here...
Its about half a second lag if you actually time it. But it never bothered me at all, i'm surprised it bothers so many people. This issue was posted before too.
I dont think its a lag but more just a transition type effect issue.
It is because the keyboard is its own application. The way android runs is it shuts down the messaging app first then the keyboard second thus the lag. Manually close keyboard before exiting if it bugs you. It bugged me a lot coming from my iPhone where the keyboard is a UI element and closes at the same time. I've just learned to close my keyboard then go home.
I've had it with every Android phone I can remember having. It's not remotely an issue for me.

This. I now always press back, then home or my OCD kicks in.

Yeah, I'm having to do that too. Pretty bootsy if you ask me. Doesn't make sense why the OS can't close both applications at the same time though. Actually pressing back in the upper left closes the message and the keyboard at the same time.

When you hit back in the app it doesn't have to close the messaging app itself and just closes the keyboard app
Also, the way Android is written, is when you hit home it has to draw the launcher which is why it doesn't simultaneously close the two apps. Downside of the way android is programmed.

Anyway to disable one-handed keyboard fully?

I actually really dig the stock keyboard since it has a row of numbers (my thumb keyboard doesn't have that!), but one thing that drives me absolutely nuts is how while I am typing away I some how knock something to go into "one-handed mode." It totally throws me off. I then go to settings and manually uncheck it, but is there a way to stop it forever? lol.
Bro, tell me about it. This absolutely drives me nuts. I find that it happens when I hold the UP arrow.
Let me know if you find a fix.
Same here...wtf...I dont understand and can never reproduce the issue
Theres to places in settings that I could find that may be causing this for you.
Settings -> One handed operation
Settings -> Language and input -> Samsung Keyboard settings
I have it off in both places and its never switched once for me.
I randomly had the same issue and couldn't figure out how I did it or how to undo it. Finally, I went to settings》one handed operation, and unchecked everything. PROBLEM SOLVED LOL!!!

Both my settings have been set appropriately since day 1 (I dont like one-handed operation). Apparently, on the note 10.1, you can pinch the keyboard to change modes. Is this just a glitch in our phones because sometimes it does toggle the tiny keyboard on my note 2.
very random, super annoying...pleaseee samsung fix this issue, give us multi-touch, and pleasee autocorrect my damn messages already. those are my only 3 grievances. oh, and the slight delay with the home and/or power button when turning phone on and/or returning to home screen. am I asking for too much??
edit: fixed home button delay by disabling s-voice via double click... noticeably faster and well worth disabling
While it's not a real solution, the best option IMO is to switch keyboards entirely lol. I prefer the Gingerbread Keyboard and have been using it since my Epic 4G.

I'd be fine with switching the keyboard if I could get a number row like the stock one. I own both Thumb Keyboard and Swift keyboard and I don't see the option for either
Im so glad im not the only one this happens too I hate it but I love the keyboard with the full number row

I have unchecked everything like you mentioned. The kb still changes to one hand operation while typing.
I think to reproduce, you have to press t and v at the same time. To change it back to normal layout, press L and A simultaneously.
It does not work all the time tho.

Does anyone have a possible fix/explanation for this? It's really frustrating and would've switched to a different kb if it weren't for the number row

It has to do with the pinch shortcut to goto one handed mode.... you can do the reverse pinch to go back to two handed mode... but its hardbto do..
I guess its when two fingers hit at once and it thinks you are pinching...I hate it but can not find a.way to disable it..
Yes. Let me DITTO this. All settings turned off but it's the "pinch" gesture or whatever. SUPER ANNOYING.
Please, I need to be able to stop this completely.

I was suffering from the same issue and after reading all these posts I found that a simple pinch to zoom action on the keyboard area will quickly fix it but permanently disabling I don't know
works by pinch zooming
I can change back and forth between keyboards by pinch zooming in and out. Galaxy Note II on AT&T
Im pretty tired as well of this... you type away super fast, come too close, and BOOM the f***er shrinks... pisses me off. Try to un-pinch it 8x before it goes "oh, hey go big again..." If there were only a keyboard out there that looked stock but had the top row of numbers to switch to... I hate this feature and need it GONE!!
One Handed Keyboard
I was having a problem getting the one handed keyboard turned off. I just figured it out. Open up a text & bring up the keyboard now click on the setting icon that is next to the spacebar. Unclick the One-Handed Operation & it is done!:good:

Two isssues that are annoying me.

First the one handed operation, I try to disable it by unchecking the option but dor some reason it just continues to default to one handed operation while im typing.
Second issue is the default program option, I check always and go to applications manager but im unable to add always to a particular operation, like instragram, ie, twitter. Any help would be great.

Have you rebooted your GN2? I had a problem where the default launcher choice wouldn't stick until after I rebooted.

Try rebooting your phone, is your keyboard showing full-screen at all? It has two multi-touch gestures built in that can not be turned off, and poorly implemented to boot. Pushing your thumbs together from the outside edge to the middle will turn on one handed mode. Then from middle with two fingers/thumbs out to edge of the screen will put it back into full-screen mode. Most of the time this only happens to me when I'm typing, not when I'm showing off the feature. :silly:
How did you get your the phone launcher to stick?

Because I tinker with several launchers, I find it easiest to just use the Home Switcher app (free on Google Play).
I don't remember for sure how I got my preferred launcher to "stick", though. I may have gone into Settings/Application Manager/All, scrolled-down and opened "TouchWiz Home" and pressed the Clear Defaults button. Then rebooted. After that, Home Switcher seemed to work as intended.
I was gonna start a thread.. but I'll bring it here, i decided to use the auto screen brightness it didn't last to long.. the screen on auto seems to change brightness allot.. but with auto brightness off its fine... does anyone have issues with auto brightness on?? Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T889
The Galaxy S1 was the same way. I never use auto brightness.

one-handed go away please!

I keep typing messages and in the middle of typing, the keyboard switches to the "one-handed operation" mode. I then have to go to settings --> one-handed operation and un-check the Samsung keyboard.. This happens a lot! is there an easier way to switch back to regular or disable one-handed altogether?
Put both fingers on the screen and swipe right to left to enlarge the keyboard and left to right to minimize
