froze touchwiz with Titanium backup now my phone wont boot past android is updating - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I accidentally froze touchwiz with Titanium backup and now my phone wont boot past android is updating....starting apps screen. I the thought that if I reloaded the latest jelly bean through odin that it would fix the problem but it didn't as I am still stuck on the boot screen after re installing.
anyone have any ideas?

Go into Recovery by using button combos and factory reset it....

Yeah that's what I was thinking but was hoping that there was another way to get back into Titanium and unfreeze touchwiz. I was just playing around with Titanium and froze touchwiz and forgot to unfreeze before rebooting.

You could try to install full firmware package using ODIN. It should over-write everything (i.e. unfreeze touchwiz).

That's a good idea but I already did a factory reset.
I would have preferred to try your method first but its not the end of the world as I have stuff backed up it was more about getting everything set up again which is a pain but again not the end of the world. Thanks for the idea though I will keep that in mind if I ever do something stupid like this again

On the future, keep a second launcher installed and this will never happen again. Unless you freeze both launchers

I just went through this. And maybe this will help the next person searching for a solution.
I froze touch wiz in Titanium and could not boot. So I went to Google Play on my desktpop and logged in. Then installed "Smart Launcher". I had no idea if it was installing or not but on Google Play on my desktop it said "installed" so i did a battery pull and restarted into Smart Launcher. Then rebooted again to get the prompt which launcher Iwanted to use and I chose "touch wiz" and "don't ask me again"

thanks

[Q] Titanium Backup, does it actually work?

I had a rooted Hero before this and now I have rooted Continuum...I've hit "Problems?" and downloaded the busybox update.......I select Force Remove App.....Titanium Backup says my phone will restart twice....but it only restarts once, and the program I'm trying to remove is still there. I get no error messages.
I had similar experiences on the Hero. What am I missing? I would really like to get rid of this extra crap Verizon put on my phone.

I will say this once, and only once. Do not uninstall bloatware.
If you do delete it, you will not be able to get any OTA updates, but yes it does work. You can ask around, there a few people the deleted it, and they were stuck on DJ20 for a while.
Rather than uninstalling bloatware, why not just freeze it with TiBu? It will have the same effect, but then, you just need to thaw all the bloat when an update is released, and then you can update, and just refreeze whatever is there that you don't want again.
I am an idiot. I finally realized what I've been doing wrong with TB. I was always long-pressing the programs in the backup/restore view. It brought up a window of options but never what I thought I should see. Quick tapping an item is what I apparently NEVER thought to do until now. What an imbecile!
By the way, the freezing suggestion is nice, but you have to pay for the app to do that.
Thanks to the dev work, I'll revert to my former method of backing the whole ROM up with CMR and flashing a new clean ROM.
thanks for the responses

"unfortunately, android keyboard has stopped."

I got this error when I tried to install Smartr Contacts and took it off my phone. It keeps popping up and freezing the system...i tried to restore titanium backup android.keyboard but to no avail. Can someone please tell me what to do other than restoring a backup? Are there any other processes I can try to restore?
Phone was bought and rooted and worked on from yesterday til today it is an ICS samsung galaxy s3 att i747
Only happens when Android keyboard (as opposed to swype/samsung keyboard) is selected?
Fix anyone?

Flash this http://db.tt/3i5sQZ5V
Just ignore the text its made of another 1 of.my zips lol.
Tried to flash kb.zip... failed
tried to force stop, clear data/ cache/davlik failed
I might just download a copy of a custom keyboard (keyboadr pro) from store and load the ics keyboadr on keyboard pro...a little more customizable too.
Reading about the error I foudn that it might have to do with the kernel (as opposed to the rom). So I wouldn't jump the flashing the restore bandwagon so fast

Surprised its failed worked ok for me. Id say you definately dont have To restore a backup. If you can still navigate the system installing another one should work.

Since a few people ran into this issue I would leave the Samsung keyboard out of that Turboslim script. It was the only keyboard along with voice that worked. I would get the same error off of different ones in market. What is it that messes up those keyboard but not the Samsung one is the question.
I put on AOKP last night so this isn't a worry for me right now. If you have the samsung keyboard as standalone and can post it as an apk or zip, it would be really nice for those who are faicng the same dilemma and fall upon this thread or for when I go back to that rom

[Q] Arghhhhh, TouchWiz Messed Up

I had LauncherPro running and used Titanium backup to freeze it. Now I cant use my Note coz it just keeps telling me that the TouchWiz is stopped and then the screen blacks out. Cant even get to Titanium Backup to unfreeze it.
Please help to either unfreeze or to reset in some way back to anything that works.
You could try installing another launcher via the play store website. It'll get pushed to your phone providing it's got a network connection.
I'm not sure if you can unfreeze an app via adb, if so you could give that a go.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
cant go to playstore or anything else on the note. can't change home screens, cant open an app either. can only use the hardware button to shut down. the touch screen is giving a stopped message when i unlock after boot and when I ok the message the screen blacks out. the message comes back in a few seconds but I can only ok the message and then the screen blacks out. CLOSED LOOP.
I meant go to the play store on a PC, it will get pushed to your phone over the air.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I deleteed TouchWiz launcher with Titanium and now I don't have any FCs or problems with my Nova Prime launcher.
The white LauncherPro installed over the air from my pc but it didnt help as I dont have a way to activate it on my Note. Would need to see the screen to go into settings to activate it.
I'll have a look at adb even though I am quite sure it will not have the unfreeze option. Maybe I can reset to factory or similar.
Any other ideas are welcome.
It should have detected a new launcher and given you the option to select it, try something like GoLauncher (different from Launcher Pro you installed).
I'm still trying to think of ways to do it without resorting to wiping the phone.
If I do I'll let you know.

Just use odin to flash a stock rom. Or wipe your phone from the recovery.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
You can just reflash the to stock again.
i tried the go launcher and it worked fine but the ended up with google play and titanium backup missing among the installed apps so couldnt unfreeze LauncherPro and the if selected TouchWiz was still messed up. I finally gave up used adb to reboot into cwm and reset to factory.
Really confusing the TouchWiz is still an issue after the reset. and can't do any action on the phone. Looks like I will have to flash back to stock unless somebody can come up with something else otherwise please point me to where i can find the stock rom and flashing instructions.

I had a similar problem as the OP and though this thread didn't really help me, I figured I'd post what wound up working for me.
For starters, I was going to follow what was recommended on the Titanium Backup FAQ Item#21:
titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-troubleshooting.html#frozen-too-many-apps-now-cant-use-device-to-launch-TB
However, I wasn't in front of my computer and I didn't want to be phone-less all day, so I tried to find some work around to get where I could unfreeze the important apps in TB.
My main problem was that I couldn't access any apps due to the fact that the home page would immediately fail and give me the "Touchwhiz Home has stopped working" error.
I still had partial access to the phone in that I could still access the pull-down menu.
Blocking mode was enabled so it showed up in the pull-down menu and I could click on it and then get into my phone settings.
I tried going through settings to get to TB and while I could get to the Application Manager, I couldn't directly launch it from there. I force-closed TB and rebooted the phone...big surprise, nothing changed.
I figured wiping Dalvic was worth a shot too (from CWM), but that didn't have much of an effect either (though it did force an app update on reboot).
Anyway, since I still had access to the pull down menu and notifications, I decided to see if I could txt myself a link (from another phone) to the TB googleplay location since you can launch the application directly from the Play store. Well, I got the txt, but I couldn't open it due to a "messaging has stopped working" error every time I clicked on it.
Since I got the notification, I knew information was still obviously getting to my phone, so I figured I'd give it a try via gmail since it is less tied to the phone launcher than messaging.
Sure enough, I got the notification and I was able to open gmail from the notification. Clicking on the googleplay link in the email successfully launched the Playstore. From there I was able to launch Titanium Backup and unfreeze Touchwhiz Home.
Hope this helps someone else, I was really not looking forward to doing a complete wipe and re-install of my whole phone.
This simple jumping around to get to TB does obviously require that you can access your notifications and that you have them turned on...otherwise you're still screwed.
If your phone is rooted and you have a custom Rom on, just Reinstall the Rom again without wiping anything through recovery. It will bring back the touchwiz launcher without touching your data. It might reset your app settings back at least all your contacts, messages, etc will still be there.

Severely handicapped my OS

Hello,
I should mention I'm running the dark_hd CM9 rom, rooted S-OFF.
So earlier today I was in the bootloader and accidently hit Clear Storage. It brought up a black screen with an image of an open box and then my phone rebooted normally.. fat fingered it somehow. Oops.
Upon loading the OS it immediately asked me for my Google info and I knew something was wrong. All of my apps icons are there on the launcher screen, however none of them are installed except for the basic apps. Also, when I tried to install Titatium Backup again, it says 'Unfortunately, .. has stopped'. I tried to reinstall a few more apps and each one says 'Unfortunately...has stopped". Before I restored, I wanted to see if I could get back some of my data and make a fresh Titanium backup of it all.
I have a few apps like a a logbook program and my Heytell conversations that I would like to see if the data is still there before I do a full restore or a wipe. Is there any way I can fix this "Unfortunately" error? Also, if I do a restore, will my app data be saved or will it revert back to the info that was there when I did the backup? Thanks.

So you hit factory reset from the hboot menu? You could check /data/data and see if the settings for your apps are still there, but i doubt it. You should also check /data/app and see if the apps apk is still there. If it is there, delete it and then try reinstalling it again. If you do a backup, it will restore the data that was backed up. You can do an advanced restore and restore everything except data.

Did you have any apps moved to sdcard? As it almost sounds like that could be the case if some of the data for the phone like the launcher homescreen data is still intact but the apps were on the sdcard which would be part of storage.

I'm sorry it was CM9. Fixed. I had CM10 on the brain as I was getting read to flash the Pons CM10 ROM. I didn't have any luck recovering any of the data so I just wiped it and flashed a new rom. I was able to run Titanium and recovery the data but I still lost some since my last backup. Thanks anyways.

[Q] My SGS3 stuck in bootloop

Hi all, i really need help here. I search through forums but still cant get any solution.
I rooted my s3 earlier today and freezing some stuff using titanium backup. It work fine until suddenly it got restart automatically. After that, i got stuck on the "Samsung" logo. I do not install any custom rom as i'm noob to all these things. I froze those apps and some bloat stuff according to some list i got from the internet.
What i can do to get my phone running back without losing any data? I forgot to back up using clockwork after i root my phone.
Please help!!!!!!

You can still backup now (if you have a custom recovery installed. if you don't, then i think there are some clockworkmod Odin flashables available, no idea where). Then when you erase, and boot up next time, use titanium to open the nandroid backup (because it can do that, as long as you have the full version, which you can just find cracked versions of), and it will add the whole nandroid backup to part of the "backed up list" in titanium. All the data should be preserved too (I don't rememebr if it also takes the cache).
and just a question to devs, is it even possible to cause boot loops by freezing bloat? I have never had such issues. I even froze my browser, the calendar, file manager, clock, and nearly every app in a clean AOSP build (did that for a benchmark once), and it hasn't bootlooped. Think there is something else? Some other factor?

I have never seen or heard freezing bloat to cause boot loops. He froze something he shouldn't have. Try Odin back to stock then re-root or leave stock. Don't do things you don't understand.
It sounds like you froze something you shouldn't have like this poster said. Before freezing in titanium always make a nandroid backup and do a quick Google search to make sure it's safe to freeze.
