To any and everyone who knows how. Which way is the proper way as of Today to root the kf2? To many videos and guides they confusing me and then when I tried a method i saw on youtube it wouldnt recognize my device but then again it was for the 6.3 version I believe. I need this rooted before christmas because I'm bought it to give as a gift but without root I feel like playing frisbee #frustrated
Took me 10seconds to find this thread which works for the KF(2) (also reported for the 10.2.4 firmware)...just follow the steps (before make sure you got the right adb driver installed) and you device should be rooted!

OK so I just tried and it does NOT recognize my device I installed drivers uninstalled drivers and re installed them again AND I dl the drivers that came in the Qemu root method and like always my laptop says that the drivers are already installed and when I click next anyway it tells me I have latest version .....What gives maaaaaaan? #headache
I found that I had to plug out the kindle. Un install the device from device manager. Then with adb already enabled plug it back in. Then it should fail to automatically install the driver from there you can install.

How do you uninstall? I go to device manager and see kindle listed and adb interface below it but when I right click kindle I don't get a un install option

How I re-rooted the KF2 after much aggrivation and little sleep
Actually, I just re-rooted but, was not that simple. Had to do some manual commands using adb to push su and whatnot. Took several fails, too.
Credits to all of XDA-devs
First thing you have to do tho is: Navigate to your Android SDK folder and download the newer drivers for the KF2 then update the drivers in Windows. Launch "Android SDK Manager" then click Tools then "Manage Addon Sites". In the next window, click the tab at the top titled, "User Defined Sites". Then, click "New" and add this line:

Next: install the Gen 2 drivers and anything else you are missing from the Android 4.0.3 package.
Then: Using "Device Manager" in Windows, update the drivers for your Kindle and reboot your computer.
Then, do this: Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18
Then use this: tf101_ics_root.zip
Then download this:
Then: unzip or unrar that and take "Superuser.apk" from the system\app folder and "su" from system\bin and paste them in the
"adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools" directory.
Then while in "adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools", hold "Shift" while right-clicking anywhere in the folder that is empty and choose, "Open Command Window Here"
In the Command Window:

I had the same issue. I updated SDK, uninstalled all drivers, unplugged the fire2. Then in SDK went to tools, manage addon sites, selected user defined sites, added new and copied: http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml, then ok, close, scrolled to the botom of SDK manager, under extras there were 2 kindle fire options, I selected both and installed them, then closed SDK manager.
I wen to the folder were SDK resides, then folder: extras\amazon\kindle_fire_usb_driver and installed the fire USB drivers, then pluged in the kindle, then execute the instructions posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051270) and everything worked like a charm. I hope this works for you! (BTW this solution was developed by someone else can't remember who, but I founded it, used it and shared it).

Try removing the drivers and then installing them using the installer in the post above yours.

No ADB knowledge needed. Just follow instructions.
1. Download mini-adb Here
2. Extract that and put it on your desktop.
3. Go download HTC sync Official Page or HTC sync Direct Download and install it. If you are NOT HTC, then download whatever you need to get the drivers needed for your phone onto your PC (like samsung Kies)
4. Plug your phone into your computer and make sure debugging mode is on.
5. Now go to your mini-adb folder on your desktop and double click RunMe.bat
6. When the black command prompt window pops up, type the following:
adb devices
7. If it lists your Device, then you did it!
8. To push any file, make sure you place it in the same folder as your RunMe.bat, and the command will be
adb push WHATEVERTHEFILENAMEIS /WHEREEVERYOUWANTITTOGO
For example, to push a file called libSwypeCore.so into /system/lib/
Adb remount
adb push libSwypeCore.so /system/lib/

and you got ADB right after the installation.

When I click runme it opens for a split second and then disappears
I so wish i could of found this earlier to save me the 4 hours of WTF moments i was having.
Also beats not having to install the SDK of 31megs not counting install/setup as well.

Same boat..I saw your post on Jan 20th in the Guide for ADB thread, which is really nice..
But I got to the same point(you also outlined in that thread) of after uninstalling the previous Android usb drivers on my system, and trying to choose a specific location to look for a x86 driver, I was left with Windows not allowing me to click 'OK' to denote the USB driver folder from the Android SDK that I wanted to scan. Not sure what was up, but I was elated to see the link to this thread in your sig.

K I got it. You can only flash a radio if you have S-off.
Download the zip file for the radio. Put it into your SD card. Boot up in recovery. Choose flash zip file. Choose radio zip file. Done.
No adb required.

This archive has some kind of weird ".exe" file. What is this, some kind of balmervirus?
This is an older thread but I'm hoping someone can help me. I had adb installed on my old win7 pc and I had the my nexus drivers installed and everything was good. A month ago I got a new pc that is running win8 and I've had nothing but trouble ever since. I cannot find nexus drivers that will install on windows 8. Is anybody else out there running windows 8 that can help me? The VZW driver exe file would not even install for me and I ran it as an administrator.

I reverted back to win 7. Sorry, can't help you there bro. Have you tried downloading the nexus toolkit and installing gnex drivers using that toolkit?

Try this: In Windows 8 install the drivers with Windows 7 Compatibility checked. This did the trick for me while testing adb and rooting a samsung galaxy tab on my windows 8 x64.

LoL Nevermind I think I know why mine isn't there... I've already installed ADB from before. I shall continue on and see what happens :-D
I'm currently running Ubuntu 11.10(Without access to a windows computer to do so.) And after following the steps within the BurritoRoot I get error: insufficient permissions for device when entering adb root. I've rebooted my kindle and laptop as well as changed usb ports.
I've set it up so that it's acknowledged within /.android. Am I perhaps missing something sdk wise? The usb configuration install for extras within it says Linux isn't compatible. But any insight into this would be appreciated I'm not new to Android or adb for that matter. Things seem to be done differently for the Kindle is all.

I know I have the drivers installed the Fire is recognized as "android composite adb interface" under the Android Phone category in Device manager. But I can not get adb to see it.

and it shows no devices attached. Ive done a factory reset on the tablet just to see (knowing it wouldn't make a difference)

I did have a few minor stumbles though. It seems the newest version of the software changed the name of the superuser app but the guide still uses the old name in the install command. Once I realized this I just changed the name in the command and it went right in.
Also for some reason I couldn't select the text in the adb box on the web page so I had to enter the commands by hand. No big deal but I would have felt more secure if the commands were in simple text so I could have copy/paste them in.
Like I said though everything worked and I have the market installed now. Thanks for the hard work!

I have downloaded SDK and installed google usb drivers as well. I have 6.2.1 firmware and downloaded kindleroot_androidpolice.apk and placed on my kindle and I also downloaded superuser-2. I am not able to install the driver to the fire either. I go to my computer, manage, device manager, kindle, update driver software, browse my computer, etc. I have no INF file to choose under my .android folder.
Any help would be appreciated
My sd card is showing up as unmounted and not sure how to remount it. I sent adb remount and it didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes thank you. Moving it to the same as the run.bat seemed to have worked as it shows online now when running the Kindle Fire Utility. I switched it to fast boot but now seems to have been frozen at the kindle fire logo for quite some time now. I heard you have to switch to fastbook to install TWRP first before rooting?
I am not sure if I should attempt to somehow reboot this as it seems to be stuck at the boot up screen

If you use Linux and get permission denied ????????? at execution of adb devices, switch to su and execute:

One addidonal thing,
if you are an linux user and get permission denied ????????? at execution of adb devices, switch to su and execute:

to start the adbd in su context, afterwards you can exit to normal shell and use it like ever.
It's not as trivial as you say. I had the out of date daemon error while trying to update my phone with the 2.3.5 European RUU by football. The solution was to uncompress the RUU and replace the ADB executable and dll's with updated ones from the Android SDK I had installed. It had nothing to do with USB connections or settings. Probably the RUU wasn't prepared for Windows 7 x64 SP1... I guess.

Thank you for the nice thread, for updating it quickly and for crediting me too.
It's great when several experiences are compiled in a way that might help many other users.
That's what a community is all about.
My trick is Download Vroot on your Pc and it will install everything you need. (Might replace your current Root Manager if you don't cancel the process of it rooting.) Once you connect your phone to your pc with Vroot it's ask you to install a apk just click okay. Once you see the apk installed wait for it to get a green backrground with wire connected image. Then there you go. Sorry for my Bad English. Hope it Helps.
Since we cannot get to other sources to install an app on firetv I've been using adb and my win7 pc.
I think I saw another method posted, installing apks already on tablet. I could not find it, and I don't think it used this method. My apologies for not crediting someone else if that's what I'm doing.
I installed "AnySend" and "Terminal Emulator" using adb and pc.
I sent app via any send to firetv.
Ran terminal keyboard very helpful if not needed
Used ls and cd to navigate to Any Send dir.
adb kill-server
adb start-server
"daemon started"
adb install "side loaded apk name"
If installed "success"
ls list directory contents
cd "name" changes directory

Yeah, I saw that, but with my way I don't need a computer, just my rooted nexus 5. I thought the OP was looking for a way to do this without a computer.
Thanks for replies. I'm lazy. I see an app I want to install. I send file from my tablet to fire tv using any send. Many other programs will work I just like this one. open terminal, navigate to install directory, use adb to install. Seems pretty simple.

I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR BRICKED DEVICES, THIS IS JUST A GUIDE FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE JCASE EXPLOID.
Requirements:
Well, first of all you have to make sure that your computer have the correct adb drivers installed and you can go into it.
Debugging mode On. (Developer options, USB Debugging Checked)
Download the JCASE pwn (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53407127&postcount=1004)
Download the Adb Drivers Updated (http://www.mediafire.com/download/41lx6p71xxit1ax/ADB+Drivers_Updated.zip) Thanks to Droidextra.org, UJJWAL KUMAR.
Process:
1- With the two zip files downloaded you will unzip it in the Local Disk (C), Create a folder with a name like "Root Tool" And unzip the files there, just like these: Check attached picture.
2- Press Shift on the keyboard and right click and then "open a Command Prompt here"
3- Check if your Sony Xperia Z1s its working well in the adb typing: adb devices. If it says failed, you have to check your adb drivers, if not, you're going good.
4- So if all its going well, just type this on command prompt (Thanks JCASE)
adb push pwn /data/local/tmp/pwn
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/pwn
adb shell /data/local/tmp/pwn
5- wait for the adb to finish.
6- Unplug you're phone and restart it.
7- Install Super Su apk (Can download it from Play Store or latest Apk)
8- Open SuperSu and update binarys with Normal Mode
Now you must be Root, if SuperSu can't update Binarys try again from 2.

Sorry about that, SuperSu its giving to you this error because the rooting it's not done, please check that your phone its adb recognizable with "adb devices" in CMD, Remember to Unistall Super Su if you get the error and Reboot in order to try again.

Okay so after working at this for a couple of hours I finally got it to work. For some reason, I wasn't able to uninstall SuperSu because it had been installed as a system app and I could only disable it, or uninstall updates from it. After trying over and over, I found this link.

Here, they include the exact same method in this thread, with one extra step; creating a boot script to maintain root/system permissions. Im not exactly sure how it works, but i followed the instructions provided by the links and then, after rebooting, was able to install binaries, and achieve full root (FINALLY!!) So if anybody has the same problem I did, try this out

Nice! I'm happy To heard that! JCase said in his post that some people will have this problem to write to system, but in my case i was able to, now we have to find a working recovery in order to have a custom rom or something like that, Some people say that xzdualrecovery works for z1s, but it is in beta version, if you find something please let us know.

Not full access bootloader is still locked but you can flash things onto your phone and as well as backups. Also sorry on the phone thing.

Hey Thanks for Reply, that's the reason because i said de Final Acces, because we can acces to bootloader because branded phones can't have bootloader unlocked.:fingers-crossed:

I can't be sure of that because is a said I lose my phone, but ever when you do a official update you lose root.

I did not lose root. I check the box in SuperSU to try to retain root.
Kept root, now I just have to fix all the issues 4.4 has created.

Hello, three commands you wrote down. Do I need to write them exactly like that with a space in between each line and then enter? Or do I need to type one command and then ENTER after each command?

Hey boss, I did everything exactly as instructed and my phone has no problem being identified in adb devices but every time I run the commands I get the first 2 commands looking like it went OK but the last command just can't execute.
