CHANGELOG
let me know what you think of the layout and everything so far
There is something BIG coming in the next couple...weeks!
I am going to port all my animations over from the lte, one x, and rezound to the NOTE 2.

I am gonna sound completely n00bish but I am gonna ask anyways. Is there a way to flash a boot/down animation without a root?
I am really concerned of the warranty and don't wanna trade it off for nothing right now.

not 100% sure, this flashes through recovery so if you have a custom recovery then it should work

The last time I looked into this I realized that a custom rom is actually needed because Samsung handles boot animations differently
I assume the same with this?

in the note 2 they are handled by the kernel. Im going to need the correct info to be able to make this work for the SGS3... can anyone confirm stock and non stock where the boot ani locations are?

Definitely need a custom kernel for the S3, not like stock Android devices. Heck I could post a symlink on my Atrix for the bootanimations and it worked.

can some please go here: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=TeamDart

Hey man I was wondering if you'd be able to get this awesome black ops 2 boot animation working with sound? Everything needed is in this link, the animation works but have no idea how to get the sound working. Here's the link:

If it can be done great and thanks and if not no biggie and thanks anyway!

I used the method suggested in this thread, and you can manually install bootanimations.zip using Root Explorer, have to be rooted to do this though.

Yea I already know that but I want the sound that comes with it

[BOOTANIM] JellyBean/Nexus 7 Boot Animation RePackaged For One X (Not The X BootAnim)

Hi Everyone,
Since seeing it, I have been wanting the Nexus 7 Boot Animation! This is not the Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean animation, it is from the Nexus 7 (apparently, before the OTA!)..
Video is in the second post below!
I have found, resized and packaged this animation for others to use!!
It is an AROMA install...
First question asked is what is the name of your bootanimation - bootanimation.zip or hTC_bootup_one.zip - Please check this before rebooting into recovery. Look in the below folder structures to find out the name!
also it gives you options to place in your desired boot animation place
Sense - system/customize/resource
Android - system/media
Data - data/local
Please check where your boot animation is, and in AROMA choose the relevant option.
In AROMA, you can also choose to delete the HTC Bootup Sound. I still had the boot up sound, so have added the option to remove it!
Download from my site - Now live!!
Any questions, just ask!
Matt

Confirmed working on other devices too - Evo 4G LTE (thanks mattemer) and inc2 (thanks dreamkiller80) - It could also work on your device too...
Thread contents on my site now too - also a smaller HDPI 480x800 version too!
It looks very 3D!!!! See below!
Good work my friend!!!!
LET THEM TALK, ALOUD!! HTC ONE X, THE ONLY ONE. VIPERX + FRANCO KERNEL r12
Great stuff, thanks! That Bootanimation really looks great
Thanks for the feedback...
As I said, once I saw it I knew I needed it..
Hopefully it comes with my nexus 7 I'm getting

Not actually preordered mine... Will go to the shop and get it... Currys (which is part of the Dixon's group in the UK) say it is available in stock on the 19th July... So, end of next week hopefully!! Fingers crossed!

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but will this also with on the evo lte? I'm assuming so since its just an animation, but wanted to throw it out there to people smarter than myself.
Either way, great work!

Hmmm, I don't see why not... As long as you know where your boot animation is.now... The only thing that might not work is the aroma installer, as it is the larger font for larger screens, and as the calibration is to the one x screen.size...
Is the screen.size the same as the EVO 3d LTE? it could be worth a shot?

Ok I think I know what the problem is... If you could delete the hTC_bootup-one.zip from system/customize/resource... Developer of insertcoin has named the standard boot animation to something.else...

I'll give it a shot once I have a chance to look for the boot animation file. The screen is the exact same, size and resolution. I'm not on the 3d though, just the evo 4g lte, basically the same as the one x except on Sprint, so cdma. Plus a few cosmetic changes and larger battery. I'll report back with my results. Thanks again!

That's where I'm getting confused then... The fact that the EVO 3d is an older phone, where as the 4g LTE is obviously newer (since the LTE phones have only just been released)... But yes, as long as it is same screen size it shouldn't matter, it even.shouldnt matter what rom you're using...

First I would like to say thanks for the amazing boot animation it looks epic.
I am running this on my inc2 and the only issue I am having is I selected the option to leave the sound but when I boot it just stays silent, when I look through the .zip file it is just the jpg's is the sound file installed elsewhere besides system/customize/resource?

Thanks, but it is Google's animation, I just repackaged it for HTC one x...
I didn't set the script.to install the sound file, but to delete the file if it is still on the phone... I could upload the boot sound that HTC provide with the stock boot animation, but I'm not sure how will work on a different phone...? I guess if it is sense it should still be the same folder/file... I can upload the file tomorrow when at a computer if u want to try it?

Worked! I used my recovery to install, all of your scripting came up, rebooted, and nothing. So basically I went into the folder (same path on my phone and rom) and copied the name of the current boot animation, "hTC_bootup_one.zip", changed the originals name (added a 1 on the end) then renamed your zip (pasted). Voila.
Thanks again for doing this! Would you mind if I linked to this post over in the Evo forums? I'm sure others would like this. But might bring up more questions I'm sure.

I have edited the AROMA install, so the first question is "What is your boot animation named?" So if it is hTC_bootup_one.zip it will install as that, and not bootanimation.zip...
Should be suitable for all phones now running a larger xhdpi screen size!
Just gonna tidy up the OP a bit, and then upload to my server!

[FIX] Dual Core always appears to be on OR off, governors default to performance.

Maybe some of you on custom ROMs have noticed that your second core functions strange, which would also mean terrible battery life and abnormally hot phones.
Well, this is due to something causing the cores to switch governors to "performance" upon boot. The only way to fix it is from a script or other app that controls CPU. That's not all. The second core seems to not function according to specs. It will either always stay on, or always stay off. mpdecision doesn't appear to work properly.
Well, I've narrowed this down to "samsungani" and "samsungpowersound" which are located in /system/bin/. Removing these at an attempt to get custom boot animations working and to get rid of boot sounds are what's causing the funky core behaviors.
The fix is to restore the two files and chmod them 755 as well as chgrp to 2000 to get them back to the way they're supposed to be.
I'm not sure if any of this effects custom kernels but it sure does on the Stock kernel.
The file I uploaded will restore the samsungani and samsungpowersoundplay files to /system/bin/ as well as copy over silent PowerOn and PowerOff sounds.
Wow that's awesome that you figured this out. Great job!!

Sure I can provide a zip, give me a bit.
Does this do anything to the cpusleeper app (eugene)? Not the script, but the actual app for those who have it installed? Will the zip you provide defeat the need for the app? Thanks for any additional info!

Nah, the zip will only be adding those files back to /system//bin/ if they were removed, like in order to get support for custom boot animations.

Just flashed it rom definitively seems alot more responsive I was seeing the lag and just had some plain weird stuff going on glad we have a dev lime you to find stuff like this and squash it. Do we need to flash this after we flash a rom obviously your rom will have the fix so I'm not worried about it but for others who arent using your rom.
Edit: is there any way I can test to insure both cores are doing what they are supposed to be doing like an app per say

Well, it really only will matter if your current ROM includes a different boot animation and/or removes those files. In any other case, it will do nothing.

OK thanks again love the rom I know you get asked this a lot but if you ever need a tester let me know I use to test for mijuah but my son stole my s2 so I'm bored now lol.
Zip applied, and I had to duplicate the process to confirm what I thought I saw:
Been running blazer 1.6 for a few days now and I honestly don't know what (if any) boot animations are built into that rom, but in the spirit of testing (and flash addiction) I used this zip.
This is what I noticed (and duplicated to confirm)--
Chainfire's live dmesg/logcat (I used paid versions) were replaced by this zip file.
When I "reinstalled" the first attempt found no boot animation files. I attempted install again and this time it did indeed "repair" the logcat/dmesg boot screen.
This is my first dual core so I have no experience in these apps working or not on such phones.
If this is wide spread then perhaps chainfire might want to look into an update to his code, if this is specific to the sgs3 then maybe we have deeper issues to delve into.
Sprint...LF9...Blazer1.6...no other customizations

Darthstalker ROM -- All things not development related--

I figured I would start this thread so that we can move all the non-development talk out of the development section. I hope people will use it so that when something that pertains to development is talked about it will be easier to find. We can discuss what kernels gives best battery life, which ones work and which one break things. We can post about our favorite apps, widgets, wallpapers, or how the weather is outside. Maybe someone will get help on an issue they are having. We can discuss anything within the guidelines of XDA, lets just try to help keep Jovy's thread clean.
I'll start, has anyone had an issue when coming out of sleep the screen is dim and you have to go into brightness and tap it to make it work? I think maybe I set my clock frequency to low or maybe I should be using a different governor. Another issue that bugs me is when I have ripple effect set and use a black background for my lockscreen the borders of the screen look slightly grey. I have read posts about this and by turning off ripple effect the color is like it should be. I like the ripple effect and I like black backgrounds, does anyone know about a fix for this, or does anyone notice this issue on their phone.
Here's the link to the Darthstalker ROM if you read this post and want to check out the actual ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442
I am not the developer of this ROM, all credit for this great ROM goes to jovy23 and those he's listed in his OP.

Same here! I find 99.9% of ROM-related issues for us flashaholics stem from not performing a full wipe prior to a flash. I've been fully stable on every DaRTHSTALKER update, with LOTS of varying kernel testing, by using this method. Full data + cache + Dalvik wipe then flash than another cache/dalvik wipe before the boot is always a good strategy!

Much better. I guess I didn't even try the Rom tweaks on this one in the first place. Gonna see tomorrow how much better it will be. On another note, has anyone successfully connected to allshare play with another gs3? My girlfriend got hers (completely stock 4.1.1 w/no root) and everything else interacts except for that. Would like to group cast with her and I've followed the videos online to do it but our phones don't show up in each other's network, connected to WiFi of course.

I've been a fan of this ROM since the very day the version 9 was uploaded. I got my SGS3 late December (this is my first android device), tried a few ROMs and stopped on this one. (BTW: a suggestion to put a link to the DARTHSTALKER S3 ROM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442 on OP so everyone new to this knows what it is all about).
This being my first post on the entire forum I was not allowed to ask questions on the original ROM's threads (and there are at least two I am following).
Now, if you don't mind a newbie question, here it is:
I am a T-mo subscriber using an unlocked AT&T phone. Currently I am on DARTHSTALKER v9 port for AT&T (here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087164 ). As the most of you I am eagerly awaiting version X1 of the DaRTHSTALKER, but my question is: can I just flash the T-mobile version or should I wait for when an AT&T PORT is available?
Thnks.

I would pm Jovy as he would know best, but maybe someone may be able to answer the question for you. I am new to phones also and the S3 is my first smart phone. I too have tried most of the roms, but keep coming back to this one. I do know that most at&t kernels are compatible, I would want to be 100% sure of ROM compatibility before flashing, might end up in a bad way. Thanks for the suggestion about seeing if Jovy would put the link in his OP.

I had something happen last night that I've never had happen before and maybe sometime can tell me what it was. I was restoring back after messing with a few mods that didn't work and when my phone booted up in the lower left corner it said "Safe Mode". I went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, and then rebooted and safe mode was gone. What is safe mode?
Thanks,
Todd
Edit: Should have used Google first. Safe mode is similar to computer safe mode. It only loads base os to allow for removal of files. Still don't understand why it happened, but atleast I know it wasn't something bad.

I WOULD NOT DO THAT! Although I cannot answer the question directly, every carrier has modified there own Galaxy S3. They are all completely different. I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

+1. Unlocking your phone only allows it access to a different carriers sim card. It does not change the base of the phone itself. I have a Tmobile SG3 that's unlocked for my travels but any ROM I flash must be a tmo based ROM. In your case stick with the ATT ROMs so you don't end up with a brick, and enjoy this great rom
My s3 is stalking your s3....
Does anyone have a flashable (zip) stock kernel?
I have looked and looked with no luck, I mean I can always just re flash the rom, but wanted to explore other alternatives first.
Thanks for creating this thread btw.

I have noticed a while ago when I receive text notification or miss calls, when i slide on them it takes about 10 second to open. I have reflashed this ROM several times n others just to see what's up but the problem only occurs with version x...anyone else experience this? just my phone?

Well turns out these can't be used on this phone just yet.. samsung completely got rid of any reference of a bootanimation file relating to zips, they are all qmgs so until someone makes a kernel that supports custom boot ani's these can't be used
added stock nexus boot ani
Cant flash till later, but just wanted to ask to make sure, so were the bootanimation partitions/files/whatever found? so if i flash i shouldn't have any problems?
thought we couldnt flash till we had a custom kernel

just flash it and it will write the correc files, havent heard any problems yet.
Technically we can't but I spent hours (with a few others) figuring out how to, had to use a fi;e from the SGS4 but it's all good.
the files are all located in /system/bin for main executer and system/media for the animation and /system/media/audio/ui for sound
Amazing Job, just flashed, thanks for the aroma installer makes it so much easier, just to let you know, the sound off doesnt work, when booting I still get the tmobile sound.
I tried the HTCone boot you posted above

the sound off is only for the boot ani, i will eventually make a small aroma for turning the boot off sound off but won't do it any time soon until i get a demand for it. It will get done though

Can u make the BIOS with the sound if possible? Really appreciate it.. thanks a lot

[ROM][4.4] [need testers!]

WARNING: I left my phone at my dads house yesterday so I am unable to test this ROM, for all I know, this does not boot!
Only for the brave flashaholic!
Hey guys, I ported cyanogenmod 11 from d2att earlier, but I left my phone at my dads house so I am unable to test it myself.
What should work:
Data
Wifi (I believed I fixed)
Everything else.
What does not work:
I need you to tell me. (I NEED TESTERS!), until tomorrow morning when I can pick up my phone.
Legal stuff.
If you flash this, you are volunteering to be my ROM lab rat. To avoid any potential issues, I advise you all to back up your current ROM.

I'm ready too and just sent you a request.
Apologies for randomly chiming in, nor do I have the intent of taking away from the great effort set forth by yourself. But within Original Android development there is also a source build if any of you are interested after testing his out.
i want to be one of the testers i already sen the request on google drive!!!!!!!!

Wow, thanks for sharing!
I was wondering why you never made a new thread for this ROM. In my opinion, it is worthy for its own thread. I would have never known you made this ROM if you never posted your comment.
I would
I would like to help in your testing please
unable to get it to boot here
According to what I've read you need to be on CWM recovery in order to flash this correctly.

Couldn't get to install at all and even had newest recovery another new rom said needed. Go so going back to the stable rom in my signature once something makes my signature I should leave well enough alone because it is always the best DD.
Good Luck!
Guys you need CWM 6.0.4.3 or higher
