Recognized Themer, I NEED YOU - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

OK, so I am planning to release some icons for the Nexus (or any real 720p device) but I am stuck.
I used to theme for the iPhone jailbreak community, and I had been commented on how good my work is so Photoshop is a breeze for me, I just have a few questions..
1- What is the default length and width of an app, especially since it is over 300ppi? I need a base to start icons on.
2- for launchers, is there a specific way to package up all the icons and make it change the drawer icons too?
3- how can I test my icons on my own device without permanently changing the icon? (I am ROOTED)
4- If there is a tutorial on android theming, please feel free to link me?
Theming for iPhone and winterboard was easy. Package it up, name the folder, select it and it changes the icons. I am wondering if there is also a similar way.
Thanks for your time, please leave your comments on where I can get started.

Take a look at this:
http://developers.janrain.com/docum.../introduction-to-android-theme-customization/
Beamed via Nexus 4

I don't think that's what you're after since you don't seem to be looking for themeing instructions for your own app but rather for the OS. You should take a look at the Theme chooser in cyanogenmod and maybe a tutorial on how to do those themes. Otherwise you will find many aren't cross compatible between launchers so find the launcher you like the best and develop for that one specifically.

The first thing you're going to need to do is download the android SDK and apktool. You'll need an XML editor as well. Theming for android is a lot more complicated than it is for the iPhone

I'm in the same boat coming from 4 years of iPhone themeing.
I used MyHome launcher when i had a gs3 for 4 days and it was pretty easy to theme. Hoping to get MiUi rom for nexus 4 when my phone geTs delivered tomorrow.

Well if you want to mod some apps, you'll need: (not to make it from 0)
- APKtool (to "extract&build" apps) its on xda...
- Some basic knowledge, as:
· Be careful with those images with an extension like ".9.png" , you'll have to download sdk and its a lil more complex .... (sometime its ok, but others it looks weird :silly: , so you can try but always have a copy of original ) :victory:
· If you want just make icons start doin at 96x96 (xhdpi default) :highfive:

So what's the trick yo get the action name for apps to out in the XML? I found a web page that you an search and I added hulu plus icon to a theme (apktool to unpack, nodded files, repacked and then resigned with a script I found for Mac) but how do I get the right string to change the camera app that's built into cm10 ROM and none of the themes I've downloaded have changed.

RE: How to customize my phone to this extent...
Hello,
Before I begin, yes, I understand that I am new and that this is my first forum posting, please, do not judge myself.
---------------
Anyway, I'm a new to the whole customization scene. I stumbled across a website named 'mycolorscreen' (I can't link due to a lack of postings), some of the designs that our human race creates are simply beautiful... but, there is a flaw... a big flaw on my part, I have no-idea how to re-create any of them. I've been told it's simple... but I just cannot get my head around.
I am going to be as blunt as humanly possible when I say, how do I make this exact design for my device (again, I can't link the URL);
mycolorscreen(.com)/2012/08/10/wow-fantastic-baby/
I've been searching for the past hour on how-to-do-so, I now have a severe headache.
I'm sorry if there's a tutorial that has been posted already, but again, I am new here, so you'll have to bare with me.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Regards - Sgt
It looks like just heaps of Widgets added to the home screen using desktop visualiser mate. First of all get that. Then get some images you want as the tiles, and add widget

It just custom icon set and not interactive..
There is link for custom icons set in comments.
You can try launcher 7 for this type of customization.
It's all Desktop Visualizer with just different sizes & icons - nothing else.
Get 3 homescreens, set these: ://dl.dropbox.com/u/http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73796776/73796776/Screenshot W8 style.rar as individual wallpapers, using something like 'Multipicture live wallpaper'.
Download 'Desktop virtualizer' and set the widget sizes according to the size of the icons on the wallpaper. I think they'll be 1*1 or 2*2, you may need to change your launchers homescreen grid size. Then set the desktop virtualizer widgets to open the specified apps. (Set the widget that is over the 'gallery' icon to open the gallery app). Hope this helps (sorry if it didn't, PM me of you need more info/help).

Changing background on apps/widgets screens

Let's say I have a theme I really love except that the background for apps/widgets icon screens is plain black and I want background to be the same as the wallpaper. Given that there is no setting for this, I assume I will need to learn how to open theme, replace plain background with wallpaper and reassemble theme. Yes?
What are the likely names of the home screen and app/widget backgrounds and where in res would they be? They're going to be a png file, yes?
I assume with this information and Photoshop I can follow instructions in how to theme thread to actually accomplish this task.
Is there any other way to accomplish this task?
A lot of apps don't actually have a plain background. It's written in the code to draw every pixel black. So it mostly really comes down to the app developer. If it's not written in the code, then it certainly would be possible to replace the background

I wasn't being clear. I meant the background on the screens with apps/widgets icons.
Given that wallpaper png is already in apk, I'm thinking changing xml settings for background of apps/widgets screens to wallpaper.png would work...if I knew what these settings were and in which xml file they would be. The other issue is there are several versions of the wallpaper png files in the apk, with different sizes and, I think, resolutions.
It sounds like your talking about the APP DRAWER? If so then you would need to check in the xxxxLauncher.apk (this depends on anything like what firmware/ROM your using. So it could be SecLauncher.apk, ApexLauncher.apk, NovaLauncher.apk, Etc....
So depending on the launcher you would need to see if it has an option already in it or extract the .apk and look for whatever file it uses for the background and replace it with whatever you want to.
For example: Apex Launcher has a setting in Apex Settings/Drawer Settings/Drawer Background Transparency/ popup with moveable bar that will allow it to see through to whichever wallpaper you have on your home screen.
Once you figure out how/where it is located inside the .apk then make sure the wallpaper you want to use is the same pixel size. Now open 7zip and find the launcher.apk and hit OPEN ARCHIVE. Next navigate to where the background.PNG or background.jog file is. Now drag the WALLPAPER you want onto the screen of 7zip. Hit okay when it ask if you want to add it. Now take that .apk and put it back on your phone, use a root explorer and move it to system and paste it there. Now long press on it and choose permissions and set it to rw-r-r. Next long press and hit move. Move to system/app and paste. It should ask to overwrite the .apk so hit yes. Reboot phone and it should be done.
These are just BASIC HOW TOs but should help guide you in the right direction .

Yes, it is the app drawer. I'll go over your reply and parse out the details. I'm running LiquidSmooth on one S3 and Vanilla Rootbox on other one. LS came with Nova, which I disabled and installed Android stock launcher. I don't know what Rootbox is, but it seems like stock. Same theme on both. Thanks for reply.

I checked with several of the launcher devs, and they said that while their app drawer has variably background transparency, they don't support separate wallpaper background. Is that not your experience?

[WIDGET] Themed\Modified default SGS3 weather widget

This is an alpha build for testing/development by those who know the risk!
It may destroy all your data, brick your phone or make other permanent changes to your device.
You have been warned!
This widget, in its current form, was pieced together as a PROOF OF CONCEPT ONLY!
This is a themed and modified version of the stock Sammy weather widget.
It was originally the default weather widget in a ROM I was building for the GN2, now I have SGS3.
I Will Not Be Continuing Development
I Will Not Provide Support
This is a flashable zip, wipe cache
What Is Here:
100% of the PNG's from the GN2 version
100% of the XML/Layout re-writes
Whats Missing:
Support for landscape
FAQ:
Can I Use/Fix this widget as a project and call it my own?
---Not much to fix but if someone wanted to re-write some landscape XML's to match my
portrait XML's I would gladly link/add it to this post with thanks and credits to the XDA member
who undertakes this.
---Themers who like the layout but want different text ,numbers etc. may change any aspect and
repost elsewhere. Just hit Thanks.
---Devs who want to add this or a version of this to their rom may do so. Just hit Thanks.
Is this widget good enough for daily use?
---No, it has not been adequately tested and bug-tracked for daily use. Feel free to use this thread to
post bugs. I will help answer theme/dev related questions in this thread if needed (if i am able).
Will this cause battery drain?
---Not that I am aware. Please feel free to post if you experience otherwise.
Thanks:
RUJELUS22 - try his AIO script, great tool.

No problem... I think I have the main AccuWeather app somewhere too, themed and modded to match this widget. Might take a little digging, and a good half hour uninterrupted to port it over, but if people are liking the widget I could make it happen.
Might try..

GMT-6 here. Sundays are my day off work. Should* be posted by tonight.
Edit: ported now, just finished a test build... so far there is no landscape and map mode is borked.
Actionbars are back to touchwiz stock since I am compiling with the stock sgs3 framework.
Other than that fairly stable... I'll see what I can fix up before I post.

Metro Icons - applying actions to images

Hi guys,
Total android Newbie here.
Just been playing around with my Nexus 7 and theming it.
Im currently running Nova prime with minimal MIUI icons (will upload pic soon)
I like the look of some of the large rectangular metro style icons which I would like to apply to my setup. What program would be best to assign actions to the images?
I tried desktop virtualiser and it uploads the metro icons but they look pretty small and theres no option for resizing.
Any help would be appreciated
You should be able to change them using Nova.

What the guy ^ there said, plus if you use uccw you can use those images, the metro style images, as either a background or insert as an image, scale as you see fit, then add a hotspot over them and assign the click action to whatever you want. Uccw is my go to for creating anything custom

You need to choose different sized widgets when using Desktop Visualizer. The 1x1 SS one will look like a normal icon, BTW. I haven't used it for a while, but it should have worked.

(NO ROOT)Transparent/Coloured Status Bar on EMUI 3 and 3.1 Huawei Devices on Lollipop

Hey Everyone!
I've been using the Huawei P8 Lite for quite sometime now, with one particular pet peeve...
THE FREAKING STATUS BAR DOESN'T CHANGE COLORS ON MATERIAL APPS LIKE IT SHOULD!!
Hopefully when marshmallow and the next EMUI version are released for our Huawei phones, they will correct this.
But for Now, here's a working solution that will take less than 5 minutes
THE SOLUTION
Take an Image that you want as your wallpaper and put it in an image editor like Photoshop or GIMP (heres the link to the site, it's a good free editor https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ ). There are plenty of online editors to do the job too
Next, using your preferred editor, change the opacity of the image (I found that generally about 40%-50% is a good amount)
Now export/save this image as a .png Image file
Put the image on your phone, set it, and Reboot (Must reboot to clear the after image effect)
(It can be a pretty quick process!! )
Now rock your phone in Style!!!
Trouble Shooting
If you find the status bar is still not transparent enough in Apps, repeat the process but decrease the opacity while editing. It will make the image more transparent.
ALTERNATIVE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A LIL TIME TO SPARE
Follow hjthjthjt's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6/general/guide-how-to-lollipop-translucent-bars-t3232898
Though it doesn't work after rebooting, that's why I came up with this solution.
I wanna say thank you to hjthjthjt , their thread really helped. It actually inspired this alternative sollution. Thanks.
example images in the Attachments Bellow
Edited image, an unedited image, the wallpaper on my home screen
and Google Play Store to Show the Transparent/Translucent Bar.
If I helped you, Click the Thanks Button, I really appreciate it
Doesn't work for me. What theme are you using?
Edit: It works after a while and few repeats. Not sure why. Thanks though! It looks awesome!
Awesome!! I'm using the magazine ui theme, the launcher is nova launcher with the sunshine icon pack. I found it's important to restart the phone after applying the wallpaper. Gets it to work properly. I really hope they fix/change this in the future marshmallow updates. At least for now it works
It's transparent on my p8 lite.
Awesome!! @ItalianWolf are you using this method or another wallpaper/live wallpaper?

No method, i'm using the default emui theme (magazine if i remember), lockscreen and home background (i set different) are full hd images, loop screen on, home style standard.
There's another way to do this. You take your wallpaper, open it up on Photoshop or Gimp, apply a gradient on the top of the picture and make it transparent so it does not look ugly as hell. Then you apply it and reboot. That's what has been done for the EMIUI theme.
You can also use various live wallpapers.

P 8 Light works perfekt transparent. PHONE HAS BEEN ROOTED, i have FLASH THIS ZIP with "Flashify". TWRP_2.8.7.x_P8Lite_kirin_v2 Recovery.
Thanks
there is also a package for rooted phones which i have installed it but it makes most of other application ugly. (huawei application that use blurry title bar now are black and white and very ugly).
so don't try installing that. hope upgrading to android 6.0 fixes my phone.
(package name was: EMUI3.1TransucentBars)
TranslucentBar
I did flash this file (EMUI3.1TranslucentBars.zip) and P8L work perfekt. with Next Launcher 3D.
Alternative Way [tested]
Use this app called (material status bar lollipop) it's developed by {treydev}
sorry XDA won't let me post the link :crying::crying::crying:
Here U will not only have a transparent status bar also you will get a android 5.0 panel.
ps: i don't own this app and it's the first result on google play store.
