GALAXY S2 GETS multiview before tmo note 2? Wtf.... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Wtf?

Bull****

i knew i was signing up for this crap when i bought this phone
samsung usually treats their customer like crap by not giving out updates when theyre suppose to be given out..
that was the case for sgh t989, that is the case for us, on sgh t889

It's tmobile not samsung, seems like people have to say this everyday
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

I really, really think its gots nothing to do with Samsung, and everything with TMo. The international S3, Note 2 (note 1?), the Verizon note 2, the sprint note 2 and now the S2 have all got it, or about to get it.
TMobile? Not a word.

Yes it is tmobile its not samsung. I just find it amazing that we cant get an update period and all these old phones are getting it...I mean its just backwards. I understand that it takes time for tmobile to port over updates and what not...but this is stupid.
I mean the note 2 is where multiview CAME from and we dont have it ON OUR NOTE 2'S
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

This is getting completely stupid and I'm generally a patient person. I'd still be patient but for the fact that the other carriers have released multiple OTA's while T-Mo can't manage to pump even one out. Hell, it would be cool it they even leaked it so we could unofficially beta if we so desired.

I contacted T-Mo's support on Twitter, and they responded with something like "we are working closely with Samsung, etc and stay tuned."
I reminded them it's not Samsung that's the delay - it's T-Mobile. They conveniently didn't respond.
I'm new to T-Mo and don't like the way things are going so far. WTF is their delay??

Cospiracy theory ? Watch this video bro. Iq agent queried https which is supposed to be encrypted and was successful and also reported a text the guy sent in plain text on the report which T-mobile said they don't do . And *I* can't disable it because im not rooted. So it is a definite concern for me. Serious watch this . Dude runs a real time log cat and CarrierIQ runs code for every button pushed as well as each number dialed on the dial pad . This is even more than *I* thought it did. Scary stuff.

Not nearly as bad as Verizon and Motorola..... Had a Bionic that took a year to get ICS and had a bootloader with military grade encryption.

They can actually cut this back on when you clearly unchecked it. Don't know if it was because of reboot or they saw it when I was arguing about my bill.

1) you should be scared if you are doing something that you aren't supposed to be doing
2) They really can't use any personal information (that's against their privacy policy and if someone did find out, they'd get the **** sued out of them, especially in this litigation-happy country).
3) You can turn it off... which, if you did a simple search on these forums has been posted at least 5 times by now (I've personally seen at least 3 posts about it)
4) The video you posted is by the original "discoverer" of CarrierIQ. The software itself is programmable, meaning we don't know exactly what T-Mobile is collecting, many phone simply have it to note mundane things like signal strength, etc. Also, here's an article on the guy who blew the whistle:
http://www.dailytech.com/Carrier+IQ...hart+Works+for+Tracking+Firm/article23511.htm
As many have known for a while now (it's been almost a year, and no one has died). It's hype and poor implementation by HTC (which has also been discussed on previous "OMG CARRIERIQ" threads).
I'm just tired of the sensationalism that surrounds CarrierIQ.

Hmm, interesting, mine's still checked off, since the day I bought the phone (10/29). I don't think T-Mobile has the power to be able to re-toggle a switch that a user explicitly un-toggled... not to mention this is one phone that has it, imagine having to code that up for all phones and adding it to their system, etc. Even if they did, the information they collect really has nothing to do with you and you should have no worries unless you're doing something "illegal" like tethering your laptop without a hotspot plan, although that's probably caught by their backend servers sniffing your packets using pattern recognition software which is the same software that Google uses to direct ads to you on gmail based on your e-mail contents, but I don't hear many people complaining about that... maybe because it's "free"... (Go here to see the real "price" of Google: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb, it's google's ad preference manager which tells you who Google things you are and what you're interested in, so they can sell that info to advertisers)

Ok my issue with lack of updates is lack of communication. T-Mobile clearly has an agenda for when it plans to release the update. Perhaps one big update turning on LTE, 4.2, etc some have speculated, but to reply something so generic is what's annoying. Finally people this is America's, hell this is planet earth. Do you REALLY think carrier iq is preventing companies and government from seeing or doing anything that they choose? Please don't be so comfortable in your false safety nets.......Lol at removing and disabling carrier iq lol trust if they need to know something, record audio, take pictures from your phone without your knowledge it's been done

I think they are talking about the internatinal s2 and s3 in that article. From what I heard and I could be wrong the international note 2 already has the multiwindow thats how we got it ported over. Everything over here in the good old U.S. of A ( land of the free home of the brave) bulcrap always comes way after the rest of the world. If google went with samsung for there newestr nexus device I would have went that way but I just cant do lg. My first android phoine was the g2x and I lucked out and got one of the good ones but with all the problems and lack of support by LG and tmo left a bad tast in my mouth. BUt I really with samsung would make a AOSP note 2 like the g2x but it will never happen.
The flip side of this is we have some real kick ass devs in the tmo fourm alone and I am sure that the rest of the carriers have them too a phone like this is bound to attact the best of the best. If you look in the dev only sub fourm we have some eleite recongnized devs working together now. So with that and the fact that all the different varents are so close in similarity we will have some real good stuff. Dont worry about what tmo and samsung does we will do what we always do which is do it ourselves. Or i should say the devs will do it themselves people like me will support them in any way possible.
\peace

I spoke to a representative from Samsung today, and a rep from Korea. They said we should be getting the multi window update very very soon. Basically waiting for tmobile to shoot out the OTA.
Check your phones over the next week or so, because it should start coming out.

Wifi problem SOLVED (acc'd to sprint rep)

I just had the best conversation ever with a sprint rep. This was an in-store tech person, mind you, so all of my facial expressions were more than obvious.
The conversation went like this:
Hi, my E4GT is having some wifi connectivity issues. When I try to connect, it says connected but then keeps scanning, and in fact, it's not connected at all because I can't get a webpage to...
(Interrupting me) WAIT RIGHT THERE...let me see the front of your phone, turn it around! (I do so.) Yup, that's the problem...you downloaded something to make your ANDROID phone look like a WINDOWS phone.
You mean a launcher?
Yes, it's an unapproved app, and you corrupted your whole system. You need to delete that and hard reset. Don't make it look like it's not an Android phone...otherwise you corrupt the system.
(My face has a wtf are you serious look on it at this point.) Oooooh-kay. Um, are you sure?
YES! ABSOLUTELY! Also, I bet you have checked off install apps from unknown sources, don't you?
Yes...so?
THERE YOU GO AGAIN --- COMPLETELY CORRUPTED YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM. Now, anyone anywhere can just go into your phone and access everything. That's why you can't get online.
(Now my face has the wtf look on it as well as a little bit of anger from this rep having somehow survived this long in her life, and in doing so, disproved darwinism.) So, you're telling me installing the amazon appstore breaks our phones?
YES, it's an unapproved app, just like that one that made your phone look like a windows phone!
But, that app's from the google market...??
I BET YOU'RE TETHERING TOO, AREN'T YOU?
(Damn, she got me there.) No! What is tethering?
Someone will come up and tell you to tether...go right ahead and do it if you want, but you'll be corrupting your entire phone again and it won't work.
Ok, thanks, this has been a big help.
You bet! Thanks for coming in!

I once had a verizon droid incredible with a screen that literally moved when you touched it (this screen hardware itself physically moved, not anything on the screen). Took it into a Verizon store and the rep seriously asked me "did you try doing a battery pull?" I was just like wtf does a loose screen have to do with a battery pull.
I don't know where they find these people. When I apply for jobs there I never even get an interview, I think I fail their personality testing during the application.
I don't even understand how people like that can get hired. You would think they would require at least some basic knowledge of the industry and products. I am actually looking to change careers and would like to get a position managing a sprint store but I can't seem to find an opening in my area because they keep hiring people like this. I have been to four stores in my area and every single one has not one person who seems to know much of anything. Maybe its just the central florida area.

Normally, I would say this story seems too far out there, and that there is no way someone is that clueless as an employee at the Sprint store.
However, I have dealt with some of the Sprint store employees and I guess it is feasible.
Either way, thanks for posting as it was an entertaining post.
Thanks op that was classic, I seem to run into these people all the time. Awesome
I had a similar thing happen at Radio Shack. I had bought the Photon there and before my 30 days were up I wanted to trade it for our SII...on launch day they didn't have any so I told them I wanted to return it and go to Sprint to get the phone. The salesman said why...the Photon is dual core and a much better phone...I immediately told him it was none of his business and then proceeded to rattle off the specs of the SII..he went into the back room. These people are clueless!
Haha I purchased an app called HVAC Buddy for work and a sprint tech told me it broke the gps in my Moment. Wtf

All of FL, bro...I'm in the ft laud area myself, and it's harder to find a glimmer of intelligence in the general population than it is to find a guy who doesn't shave his chest here.
anyway, just fyi, it's an absolutely true story. the worst part, which I forgot to mention in the OP, is that a couple minutes before this dolt began "helping" me, I was talking with another customer who had an E4GT with some crazy problems (phone with a mind of it's own...would just randomly open up apps and close them and restart...) and I was telling her about this forum and how her problems were atypical and how she should just get a new E4GT...and then every time this stupid, stupid customer service rep talked, I had to just look over at this lady and hope she knew how completely retarded the rep was.

No need to apologize on their behalf...it's the same at every job and every profession. It's just a shame that people don't say, "sorry, I don't know," when they don't know. But, on the bright side, it does sometimes make for some funny ish when they talk out their ass
Walked into my local repair center and showed the Guy my OG Evo, told him that I was having some issues with the fact that my $400+ phone had a crack in the casing near the volume and power buttons. He immediately told me "you dropped your phone and it cracked. that's not covered sorry." and proceeded to the next customer. I walked up, showed him again my phone was in an otterbox defender case, had NO signs of damage... mind you I kept the case on since day 1 and I had never dropped the phone....
He looks at me with the straightest face and says "it is because you are using a Facebook IM application which causes the problem." at this point I laughed in his face, left the store and proceeded down the block to the next repair center.
This Guy still works there....

TMO Galaxy S2 "Not part of our replacement program"?

Well i went back to stock (at least tried to) for the preperation of ICS and the maintenance update. That was a disaster. I have had over 25 android phones but i guess i thought it would be a good idea to check re-partition in ODIN cause i thought it would be an *extra good* flash. Ya now i have a FULL brick. Before i tried to reboot download mode, it said PARTTABLE missing or something like that. And yes it was a full brick there was nothing i could do.
Whats even BETTER is that TMOBILE told me to shove it! "Oh this phone is not part of our replacement program." WTF. So they directed me to call Samsung which i did and it is now on it's way there. Since when does a phone i bought on the account less than six months ago not qualify for an exchange. Bastards. Well hopefully Samsung fixes it in a timely fashion and sends it back!
My wife recently broke her screen on her GS2 and they replaced it...
Geeze man, that's a major screw up. It's posted everywhere not to check repartition. and tmo has been replacing these phones for people.

So Tmobile has con another person. I think that you should tell Tmobile to shove it again and again after the lie they told you. The are the practical joking wireless company, don't be fooled by one representation of Tmobile, you have to keep escalating the situation until you find the hard to get truth with Tmobile.

For future reference you cannot and should not ever check re-partition with out a valid PIT file. It will always result in a brick otherwise.

dude I have done two replacements on this phone You should never ever ever call tmo on the phone to get anything done period. Go to a corporate tmo store not one of those dealers a full tmo store and deal with them face to face. Those idiots over the phone are stupid and they dont care, but when you are face to face they will respect you more and try harder. And they dont just call the same number we call when you go to a corporate store they actuall get to the right people. Hell I dont even call them to change my plan I go to the store. You know how many times I just wanted to make a small change in my plan and they gave me a problem or they did the wrong thing and then I went to the store and they fixed it without a problem. That's funny, we've had the reverse experience.
The T-Mobile store people have frequently lied to us. When we signed up during their Valentine's Day deal they lied about the plan requirements, they lied about transferring our old phone numbers to T-Mobile that day, they told us we could downgrade from unlimited talk and 5GB data in two weeks, then two weeks later they said we couldn't.
In the end we just called T-Mobile CS the next day who transferred our numbers and changed our phone plans with no fuss at all. Now we never bother dealing with the T-Mobile store in person, my girlfriend gets pissed off just thinking about them.

I heard about the update this afternoon so I ODIN'd back to UCLH9......wishful thinking.
I'm staying up tonight.

Bet this is gonna end up like ICS for the S2 series. AT&T is gonna be the last to get JB.
Stock ICS on my S3
.... i'm not even a Sprint customer.... but am i the only one who noticed in the screen cap of that message where it says:
"This software update will be pushed to existing Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 customers over a few week period."
Think if you're staying up all night.... i wouldn't recommend it. haha

Well yeah, that's typically how updates roll out. Or at least over a few day period. Not sure if it was that article or another similar one I read but it stated it would likely be week before everyone had the update. On the bright side we will have a solid release for roms, and maybe JB source.

I didn't confirm but someone else did say this on the sprint forum

+1 I think Xmas, maybe. ATT is probably going to make sure it performs worse than the iphone now that it has lte.
I have to say though, I'm fairly happy with a mod'd tw and the Google Now for ICS... But I still think the wifi stinks even with uchl9.

I call BS, there have been ZERO reports of Sprint users actually getting the update on their phones yet:

Really? You think AT&T is going to voluntarily make it perform worse than the iPhone? Soooo.... AT&T is the ONLY carrier with the iPhone? I did not know that. Not to mention that i don't recall ever really going into an AT&T store and having an employee walk up to me vigorously promoting the iPhone trying to force me into buying one as if it's the JesusPhone. If they did, i'd walk right the hell out.

BS... It was the complete opposite. Their profit margins off of the iPhone are slim to none as compared to other phones they sold at the time. Still is that way to this day...

Yes, I do. I know for a fact that that iphone customers are the vast majority of the customer base, have been for years now, historically 20 Iphones are sold for every other phone combined. In the last quarter with three months of Android sales with great models like the HTC and GS3, they still sold 5x as many Iphones and the new model was only available for one month.
In addition att tweaks the network and the build.prop in Android to insure that the iphone outperforms other devices (so long as there is capacity). There are known cases where android phones were miss-identified to the network as to their speed capacity. Iphones don't have the new pat apn and using it on a LTE apple device won't get you a network connection.
Simply put ATT doesn’t really care about android phones and only sells them to satisfy a niche market and to fill out price points. They don't have much pull with Apple for bloatware or the timing of updates. The gs3 l9 firmware patch removed 2.4/5ghz switch shows that they want to reduce customers calling to the call center and any confusion people had about the bad wifi performance of the gs3 where one of the fixes was to not scan both bands.
Look at the reduced pricing for the Android phones across the board, they want to move them out. The Sony TL will be released in a couple weeks for $99, already less than the ion was at release. Ion was free at Sony's stores and websites in the last weeks. BB has been selling gs3 for $99; the TL doesn’t stand a chance.
ATT likes to pee into android firmware claiming that it doesn't meet the network standards. Every att branded android firmware update has been delayed by this excuse. Serious bugs, they will fix, it's bad publicity, updated firmware? They rather not, if they don't have to, and the longer they can string it out, the more likely you will upgrade your phone.
It's been reported that they have already gone through 3 firmware betas.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Calm down. Lol. I don't know what you are talking about. I get great/excellent network performance out of my gs3. I pull 30+ on LTE easily. Soo many conspiracy theories.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Interesting points, but it seems odd that they would continue to get so many exclusive android devices if they didn't really care about the market or keep that market happy. (galaxy Note, original SGS2, and now HTC one x+ just off the top of my head)

While stan.s seems to be pushing the theory farther than most, I am glad his theory doesn't include "AT&T is updating their bloatware, blah, blah, blah."
I recently realized that AT&T already released the Galaxy Note II, which comes with Jelly Bean and includes the same three teensy bloatware apps: AT&T Messages, AT&T Hotspot, and AT&T Navigator. They've all been updated for Jelly Bean already.
Something network related seems plausible and that's what the AT&T reps indicated ("a strain on the network"); in fact, they explicitly noted that Sprint's network was much smaller, so the rollout came quicker.

Lets hope Samsung doesnt start this

This seems to be really poor timing on HTCs part, as they are trying to rebuild a public positive image, regain market share.
Killing this kind of resource is only shooting themselves in the foot. It pisses off the geeks that would otherwise give them good recommendations and reviews.
This kind of website costs HTC no money, incurred no losses. And, imho, actually Saves them money (in man hours) for tech support, as XDA does.
Foolish, HTC. Hope you're reading this.

That isn't what the OP is about...it is about HTC issuing DMCA takedowns and then domain seizures of websites that host HTC firmwares and ROMs....meaning XDA might get punked.

My bad
BTW it doesn't matter if you don't switch carriers, and just unlock your phone. Unlocking your handset without the branded carrier's permission is easily grounds for ETF and being kicked from said carrier if not getting legal action brought against you. For example, the SIM mod being worked on to allow us Sprint users to use GSM towers with a 3rd part SIM card is illegal on any phone purchased after tomorrow....as you are technically unlocking the phone. You can still have your Sprint contract and Sprint service, but that mod is illegal as of tomorrow on any phone purchased starting tomorrow.
AAMOF, that SIM card mod thread will probably be deleted and disappeared before too long.

Ok I ordered a new glass *also*, but now it's just going to be a garage music player, google, and obd2 scanner device, or maybe a netflix / "smart tv" box for the bedroom. What will not be is my phone that gets carried around and seen doing neat stuff.

I am so happy they are shooting themselves in the foot like in Blazing Saddles. It makes me so giddy! I dumped htc 4 years ago. Last device I bought was the tp2. I was so disgusted how poorly it ran and how the xv6700 out performed it. Plus remember the whole htc missing drivers deal? That set my hair on fire. I said to myself. ... "nat juan moar penny shall this dirty hor get fro thy!". Ever since I have been only buying samsung. Now I can actually rub my phones in apple fans faces. With htc, I was embarrassed to take it or if anyone had aiphone nearby. Thxs samsung.

[Q] Why do us U.S users get the VERY short end of the LONG stick ???

I've had a gs2 and a gs3 all T-mobile. Why is it that we U.S users get done so dirty when it come to updates, fine tuning lol customer service etc etc. We pay as much as the next guy (most of us) for our "high end" phones If apple does do one thing well it's delivering their boring IOS updates to the rest of their devices. I still know people with a galaxy s, and if you think we are going to get a 4.1.2 update before the s4 comes out you are sadly mistaken. If i pay 500 + for a device I at least want it to be relevant for some time. Even the specs of the international why is it we are the mentally challenged little brother. I know each carrier has to add their bloatware and stuff on to the updates but that never even happens.Things need to change call me a crybaby but I work for my money like every one else and am tired of it being a great investment for only 6 months. Do they all want us to go get an iphone before they stop treating us like sheep with wallets. Let me know if i'm wrong or what you think.
What does iOS have to do with US vs Non-US customers ? iOS is made for ONE family of devices, all with the same hardware per iteration and Apple only have to worry about that one family, with is like... what... maybe four different phones being actively supported at this point ?
If OS updates are your priority, get the Nexus 4 or another "nexus" device - then you'll get updates with iOS frequency and support. It depends on what is important to you.
I'd rather have the 2Gb RAM than the quadcore.
Developers do a great job of keeping a phone "alive" and making it even better than stock so I think it's a safe bet that any popular device (like the S3) will have a long "second life" in development even after official updates are no longer pushed.
Reason why I was coating iOS was that international or us you have the same specs as the next guy and they still update their iOS on outdated devices my s3 can't even get an update an we aren't even outdated yet. Yes developers do a lot and I love em, but you can only do so much example multiwindow. Imagine if our u.s developers had a premium suite to play with. They are teasing us showing us what our phone are supposed to be.... There is a diff in thinking you can be better than knowing you can be better. On that note the international s3 just got a 4.2.1 leaked update where is our 4.1.2 official update. Imagine when the devs get a hold of that update.. And ppl think we are going to see key lime pie when we can't even get 4.1.2. Even int s2 can compete with the u.s s3 smh

I think to sum up what the other guy said, id say not a lot of people know about sites like xda , while others who do choose not to root because they are scared to mess up their phone or dont want to deal with it. I do feel his pain that here in the us we dont get as much love as others do that own the intl version. Id say its a pretty sad response to say "get a nexus". 0people get a certain type of phone for a reason. Id love the nexus for the updates but screw tryinf to cradle that thing like a babt bwcause of the glass back and no sd card support. If the sgs line gor frequent updates it would def make it a more killer phone. Samsung really needs to do something about that if they completely want to wipe out the competition. Regulate the us counterparts a kittle better as to bloat and such.

If the OP is arguing that Apple is the ideal, I think a comparison to the current Nexus line is accurate. Lack of choice is one reason for faster updates - Apple doesn't have to implement it's OS with vastly different processors between US and International versions like with the S3. And Samsung makes a TON of different phones. Pros and cons. If a person doesn't want to try custom ROMs, I'd argue that the majority of customers don't even know or really care what Android version they're running. I think "knows what flashing I'd, but too afraid to do it" is a small camp between xda and the average consumer who only cares that the phone "just works".
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
But for the ppl that do know what version they are running and the miilions of videos that broadcast and promote specs that go way past the phone just working. Yeah I know u.s and int have diff specs, and what is the valid reason for that because I never seen one. I've been pimping my phone since I had the wing. Tech spec and rom vids are not for people who are satisfied with just a working phone. If all the phones had the same specs and then the carriers make their print it'd be cool.

Because they bring new phone for new software. And we buy new one because its their policy to sell new phone and they know we will not wait for updates.
Outside US they stick with same phone for years.

Yeah, the subsidy model in the USA is growing outdated and I think we're seeing the carriers realise this, albeit slowly. If a person is doing contract service and expects a new phone every 2 years, it's a very different market than if people are paying lower service rates, but buying the phone outright.

Well ive been flashing roms since the mytouch. Now that I actual have a career and family ibdontbhave hours to backup every text (theyee all business related) and picture ofy daughter, backup apps, etc, flash roms until I find a stable one and then restoew it all. It really does take a minimum of one hour + I finally gotn used to rootbox and rhen started playing a feq games. Complet glitches everywhere. So yes I fall ino the category now of "I jist want it to work the way it is supposed to and not wait for bugs to get squished" . And I dont believe im alone. I jnow there arw loyal crack flashers out there that have no problem doing all thatbstuff and flashing all the roms on this forum. It comes down to time and whats really important. Ive had all the sgs variants for tmobile and feel ive been taken for a complete circle ever year. They hold updates unril the new sgs version comes out then its another 6 months until we get one leak. When the next nexus phone comes out jm jumping ship for sure. Need to get off this wheel.
