Randomly charged for att navigation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone else randomly get charged for att navigation? I got a text the other day saying that I was charged 9.99 and every month I will now be charged that. I haven't used att navigation app nor do I even have it downloaded. I have to call up att so they'd refund me and cancel the subscription.
"AT&T Free Msg: Your subscription purchase was successful. AT&T Navigator for $9.99 will auto-renew on 01/10/13. Need help? Visit att.com/mobilepurchases"

Have you ever opened it up when you first got the phone? Att apps are installed by default.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium

Nope, deleted all the bloatware ASAP
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium

Yeah, AT&T (and others) like to do that. They load up the device with tons of bloatware. Some are free, some require a subscription. When you first launch the App, you get a Terms of Services notification and most of us simply hit OKAY to continue without reading the part (this is true) that says something like "Upon launching this app, you have 7 days before you can cancel this service. If you wish to continue using this app, do nothing and you will be charged $X.XX per month thereafter." This happened to me before and it wasn't until 2-3 months later when I found out. They were nice enough to refund most of the fees.
Call up and find out what other subscription-based apps you (inadvertently) signed up for. There's a section in the bill that says so.

I used to work for at&t as a Call Center CSR. I remember getting at least 15 calls a day regarding subscription charges. Most of those harges were due to kids using the phone or people just dont read before using the app. However, they have this rule of thump policy that accidental subscription charges will be waived the first time.
I really doubt they will charge someone if they never used/opened the application.

Sprint changing things on the fly

Heads up to those that upgraded with an available upgrade to the ET4G...
SPrint is trying to charge me a prorated charge for my plan after upgrading. So not only are they charging me for my plan, but they are charging me another 129 as the prorated amount to upgrade the phone.
You mean the cost of your phone? What you're saying doesn't make any sense...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
They were trying to charge me first and last month for the line since I upgraded it.
I was on the phone with account services when typing, I got them to credit my account for the charge as the person from account services said it was definitely an error.
Funny thing was how much the chat agent tried to lure me into accepting the charge with a discount (because it was an acceptable charge) And then upon calling in how the CS said that's how things are when upgrading a line. Whenever a line is upgraded, Sprint charges a prorated amount on the upgraded line... which is complete bunk.
Stupid Sprint...

I could see them doing this if you were frequently delinquent on your bills.
If your phone required a plan switch, they actually do cancel the old plan and pro-rate the amount that is due. Then they sign you up for the new plan. It is convoluted the way it is accounted for because it looks like they are charging you the full amount twice, but then their are credits to account for the pro-rating (ie the portions of the month you aren't using on each plan.

Simple Mobile Questions

So ****in tired of t mobile bull****.. looking for other options.
has anyone here used their galaxy s2 on simple mobiles network?
how is speed of your 4 g?
is it straight up 60 plus tax or are there any other hidden fess...
I'm glad you asked! You're in the right place! I've been with Simple for almost two years. Absolutely wonderful Service. The speeds are really good for 3g and 4g. I used to be on the 3g plan and switched to 4g to check it out. It's really good but when I had the S2 on T Mobile it just seemed a little quicker. Probably because Simple hasn't leased the higher or faster speed towers? Nonetheless i've converted many of my friends and family to it and never experienced a drop call. I've been all the way to Ohio and new York city with it and works amazing. There are no taxes with the program. You can even pay online and they will never charge you any "Service fee" or whatever nonsense. You'll love it. Trust me. No need to let your phone unlocked either. Let me know if you have any other questions! Sorry if I sound a little excited, I'm just glad someone has seen the proverbial light and is thinking of switching.

im so sick of the bull that happens with tmobile...ive been charged 10 extra a month for something ive never signed up for past 3 months..just got credited..
returned a black sammy s 2 ...they sent me a white one. with no back. and not even notifing me of the color change.so now i have a black back with white phone...its like me sending the check this month with no dollars and just the cents ...****tards i swear
Yes you can port a number to simple mobile. However, they have the worst customer service ever. I used to have 2 phones with simple mobile and they charged to $40 to recharge my account but the pin number that was sent to me via email was invalid for both of the accounts and they won't believe me. They could check that I have used ZERO msgs, minutes, data in 20 days because my phone doesn't work but they failed to help me out. They would hang up on my when I would ask for a supervisor and when I finally got hold of supervisor, she emailed me another pin numbers for both of the lines and they didn't work AGAIN. I ended up paying more to simple mobile then I saved.

Had simple mobile for about 2 months and there speed on the gs2 is nowhere near the same. T-Mobile customers have a higher priority on the towers, I now use the $70 monthly 4g plan for 5gig of data
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Sorry for the late reply. Customer Service DID suck in the beginning. I had a nightmare porting my Number the first time only to find out it was a bad SIM. But now they have improved a lot and could use some improvement but I always tell people, it's a prepaid company so never expect them to bend over completely backwards for ya. They have limited resources to help out their customers compared to postpaid companies that have boatloads of capital behind them. I'm saying all this because i've worked at many of these local Cell phone stores and my friends own many.
And like I said earlier, t mobiles 4g speed was faster than simples but it's so worth it considering no surprise charges and headaches. They will port your Number when you call them. Make sure you have your previous account number and passwords and it should be ported asap. I've never had to contact customer Service after I ported my Number so take that from me. Best of luck.

Any of you been throttled yet on simple? I'm positive their 2gig plan is the same as T-Mobile's $60 2gig plan. Why would T-Mobile give simple customer (a tmobile reseller) a better deal than they give their own customers?
Sent from my Hercules using XDA App
The worst customer service has to be AT&T. I ended up paying over $1000 thru a year for a phone which I had returned and service I never used. They would tell me to fax them a copy of return and when I would fax it to them, they would tell me they couldn't find my fax due to thousands of faxes they get everyday.
I could care less about the money but the special team they had handling my case was also very rude to me. Then I created a Facebook page complaining about how bad their service is, and very next day I received an email from one of their customer relations manager. All the sudden she was able to find my faxes and reimbursed the money. By that time I was so upset by the fact that they treated me like a thieve. After getting all my money back, I called T-Mobile so I could switch. BEST THING-> T-Mobile even paid for my ETF for 3 phone lines that I brought to T-Mobile, in addition to free phones.

Why? Simple, look at Boost Mobile. When they first came out and initiated the unlimited trend many people we're skeptical and people who had Sprint used to ask what was the catch? I told them there was none. People don't realize you are not on a contract and pay for your phone up front and taxes are usually included in the monthly bill. With a contract they tend to give you more privileges and tend to make sure your problems are dealt with them instead of the manufacturer, like give you a replacement phone instead of sending it to Samsung. But with no contract you have to usually send it in yourself. Sprint and other postpaid companies make lots of extra money selling you all sorts of erroneous services and stuff. There are many people blind to the way of prepaid and foolishly think it's better to stick paying an outrageous bill instead of saving money on the same thing without contract. It's the stigma really. And many people are stubborn too. That's why.

anyway to use nexus still locked by verizon?

my friend had billing issues with verizon they started double billing him got like 400 behind so he said screw it and went to sprint he gave me the phone but im 99% sure it will be locked because his contract was not up
If you weren't able to, I'm pretty sure that stealing phones to resell them would be a whole lot less lucrative.
Just need to ask Verizon to activate it and you should be set.

excuse me stealing? my friend showed me he even showed verizon his receipts he had PROOF of FULL payment every month all of a sudden his bill went up like 400 bucks he is only person on account they asked him to send in his receipts he did they refused to fix it, they are the theifs 412 bucks he does NOT owe and they said pay it off or we shut you off so he told them to f**k off
He's not accusing you of stealing, he's saying that if it was not possible to activate it the entire market for stolen phones would not exist because they would be useless.

I highly doubt they denied him after he sent in receipts... if so he needs to try again at a different location. I've been able to get months of free service from Verizon by threatening to cancel (I do have 7 lines for over ten years though and 3 lines are in the top 1% of data use age.. still unlimited ).
However, as the previous poster pointed out and you ignored, call Verizon and just activate it. They won't say no to a new line with 2gb data cap.
I think its stolen but whatever I need ten posts in newb central.

The phone won't be blacklisted for non payment unless its reported stolen or fraudulent. Cancelling an account with an outstanding balance doesnt meet the criteria.

Exactly. They think he owes them money. Just because he left for Sprint doesn't mean they're just going to give up trying to get it from him...
Plus you understand he's screwing his credit. And they probably won't activate it because there is a bill attached to that phone. So technically it's blacklisted until you pay for his share. I've worked far too long in the cellular industry to know. Unless they're desperate for customers then I don't think so

Sprint and roaming- disconnect no etf (my story)

Sprint apparently has a roaming department now. And I have been "targeted as a roaming customer". I couldn't believe it when she said that. Not only was she fairly rude, but I'm now being treated as if I was somebody who hasn't been with the same carrier for years! I literally responded with "targeted? For what?" She didn't care to explain much and actually went through all my details and account history as I sat on the phone in silence just waiting for some sort of response or direction. After being in silence and hearing her mumble, cough, and what I thought to be her eating snacks, she quickly stated (so fast I couldn't make out what she said the first time) "you have the option to terminate with no etf or port your number with no etf". It literally sounded like this: youhaveheoptiototrrmijdETFporthsbsETF.
I thought about what I should as those were the only options presented to me... I finally asked, can I just keep the same thing I'm doing now? She basically said I could but threatened that my phone could be disconnected for no reason at all whenever they feel like it...!
I was too frustrated to deal with it anymore and told her thanks (nothing to thank her for, dunno why I did that) and ended the call.
Turns out I used approx 500 roaming minutes (phone calls) according to their records in six months. They claim that's excessive and sent me a letter 2 months ago that I still haven't seen. Either way, considering flashing to boost now. Only problem is, how do I get the other two phones on my account over there and would those be without etf as well?

Only sprint can answer those questions. My guess would be if they are allowing you to cancel 1 line with no etf, they should let you cancel other 2. If not, force them too.

If they want you to cancel your line, make it conditional on them releasing the others as well. Otherwise, change the PRL to constantly roam on your other two devices. You'll receive a call in about a month telling you that they want to cancel those lines too.
This is easy to do on an android phone, but I'm unsure about iphones.

Well, I'd say it's nice to see you posting again on XDA but what odd circumstances.
I'd say call them up and get a clarification on it. If they don't drop the ETF already you could pressure them to do so and as another posted make it an "all or none" situation with your account. Remind them that it's not the only phone on the account. They'll either fold because you're costing them too much, try to give you the proverbial middle finger or drop the issue and let you continue as you have been. And if you don't get the answer you're looking for I'd take ask for a supervisor or find another way to escalate.
BTW, still sporting the LG as one of the other phones?
Lol. I do have the LG but kind of as a backup... My other phone is an HTC evo 3d which I need to find out if I can flash to boost as well...

I'm going to venture to guess "mumbles" the CSR meant to say you've used 500 roaming minutes a month for the last 6 months, but wasn't articulate enough to spit that out properly. If I were you I would call into the customer service number and try and get a hold of a rep who can properly convey what they are trying to tell you and escalate it from there to retentions. You will probably end up with a few options, 1) keep all 3 lines and try to get below a certain amount of roaming a month 2) terminate the offending line with no ETF and keep the other lines active 3) cancel all 3 lines with no ETF or 4) get the offending line terminated ETF free but have to buy out the other lines at the prorated ETF if the contract is over a year into agreement.
We are legion, for we are many.

Don't want to sound like an idiot, but no roaming on Boost?

How long have you guys been on the verizon prl without sprint contacting you? I've only been on for about a week or two but I'm at 9gb and my wife is around 2gb.

Slow down big fella or Sprint will come calling. I barely went over 300 mb of roaming for one month and the have me a call. I'm glad since it allows me to cancel my plan whenever with no etf..

Sprint's service in my area is horrible now... I'd rather go tmobile or verizon, even if it costs more at least its service that I can use.
How do you use a PRL from another carrier? I have not seen that option anywhere.Sprint's coverage is pretty horrible and I could use some Verizon love when I am at work. Much better signal from Big Red and none from Sprint while there.

Just found out tmobile rep signed me up for jump

So I just checked my account and found out I am signed up for jump protection. When I bought my note 3 she asked me if I wanted to sign up and I specifically said no. I bought my phone outright full price. If I hadn't checked today I would have been paying for it. I'm going to call the store later today or tomorrow. What should I say and demand

It could have been a mistake. Its probably a check box when you sign up. IMO, tell them to take it off and ensure you aren't charged for it on your bill. If you have payed for it at any point, get a credit. These are high school grads here usually with their first job that has actual responsibility. I don't keep my expectations too high.

My salesperson explain to me that for the protection of the phone and peace of mind. Insurance to be exact...but he also told me that you can cancel it anytime online...
Yes I can cancel it online but why was it on there. She repeatedly tried to tell me to get it and I said no. So I don't know if it was a mistake or if it was on purpose. Should I demand anything or just get it off and not make big deal.

Just get it off. If you're really that butt hurt complain to the manager. The manager might be shady and tell their employees to do it.

They did the same to me. .. Just got the text that I had it and I told them no. ...I put half down and over the next 4 months I'll pay it off. ..I mean this is the best phone and the note 4 won't be out for a year from now so I don't need the jump either. ..

My sale man said that the system automatically add Jump to new phone purchase and the first month is free, if I don't want it then I can cancel anytime within 30 days.

It happens to me too. I just asked the sales rep what does the jump thing means and what does it do, alas! Already added on my account, but when I went back to the store to replace the phone I told them about the jump added on my account and I do t want it they took it off my account right away no questions asked. Jump is not mandatory ots just added benefits if there is to those people whose buying their phone on monthly basis payment. Hope this helps.

Its no Mistake, T-mobile reps get Commission pay for signing people up for Jump, I went through this same, I specifically told the Girl, i DO NOT want the Jump, then she made a comment " well its required with the note 3 when buying " so i told, thats BS (in a funny manner ) and told, i know how this works, i worked for a phone company then she laughed. If the rep get u signed up for Jump its an additional bonus they recives when they get the commission check. So if you do not want the Jump, REFUSE it, they even demand it, its required for Note 3. dont fall for that BS.
hope this helps
FYI, i did signed up for the Jump after 10 days, because i later found out that, note 3 have lot of faulty issues, including freezes, crashes and touch issues, since spending $700 bucks and being a phone fanatic who changes phone every 3 month, this move seems like a good idea,
PSA and Fyi, if you have insurance on the device without jump, it's $11.99/mo
If you have jump, which includes insurance, it's $10/mo
I almost never opt for insurance on anything, but I think it's usually a good deal (temporarily, at least) to have it on a $700 phone.
The reps make very little on jump incentives. It's more about quotas and there's ridiculous pressure to be above 80ish percent (e.g. they can be written up for having a low %)
That's not our problem though. However, I'd recommend getting it, and cancel if you don't want it a asap. Keep in mind, phone payments don't start for 2 months.
Either way, the main acct holder will always receive a text if it's added, so keep an eye on that if a rep is shady.

What are you gonna demand? It was a mistake, and if it wasn't, worse things happen in the world. Absolutely hated customers like you when I worked in this field long ago.

This. Jump is a great deal IMO, insurance for $1.99 LESS per month even if you don't want to use the upgrade option.
Either way OP, if you don't want it just call and have them take it off or go online & remove it yourself. Don't "demand" anything, you're not suffering any ill effects because you accidentally got signed up for Jump. Don't be that guy who storms into the store demanding recompense for a simple mistake.

These kind of comments should be kept to your self. Most of the people that work for T-Mobile are not just high school grads. I have a 4 year college degree in Law Enforcement and am unable to find a job right now. I also work as a T-Mo RSA in a Corp store. Yes it is a check box and also you have to get 90% of all customer you help to get jump or you get fired after 3 months. So keep your crap ass comments to your self. No one wants to hear it here.

Yup the I work in a T-Mo Corp Store as a RSA. Because of how much my manger is pushed to get jump on accounts. We have to get 90% of all the customers that buy phones to get jump or we lose our jobs after 3 months if we are under 90%. Some mangers will tell reps to put it on for a month and the manger will credit it after month is over. The system still sees it has a add and the rep is safe. This is how bad T-Mobile is now when it comes to stuff.
I also work for T-Mo and he's right, our goal is 90% of any phones sold, but only for customers doing an EIP (payment plan). JUMP is $10/month and along with insurance bundled in (lost, stolen, physical, liquid damage) it also allows you to trade in the phone after six months, wiping away anything you still own on it, and making a new down payment on a different phone. You can do that twice per year after the first six months. If you plan on keeping your phone and paying it off, standard insurance without the JUMP will cost you $8/month. Just FYI Shady sales people are in many industries, so please don't assume every cell phone sales person is out to get you. If you leave the store not understanding everything you have signed, you don't have anyone to blame but yourself. At my store you have to sign a form that says you are enrolling in JUMP, not sure if every store has those though. That being said I do highly recommend insurance for this $800 phone. If something happens to it, $175 deductible is way better/cheaper than repairing costs or re-buying the device.

You should go to the store and complain to the manager. When I bought my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone at full price, I specifically told the sales rep "I don't want insurance". The next day I get a text saying that my contract changes have been made. When I checked my account, it showed insurance. This pissed me off that they try to slip in insurance or other option just to get commission out of you. Next time before I leave the store, I will have them write out with a pen on the receipt "no insurance or other paid options or changes to the contract" and then have them sign their name and date it.
Could someone tell me where it would state "Jump" on the bill? I've been looking my bill over and I can't seem to find my insurance coverage or jump.

The 6 months starts from when you add jump. After that 6 months you can do it twice a year with no wait beyond that initial 6 months as long as you don't remove jump
