How many have Battery life thats shortened since Day1? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mine has. Sure I have a custom Rom (wanam )but I've gone from averaging 12hours first month to about 8-9 now.
How bout you all?

You've probably installed something that's chewing battery up

Yep I still get 19 hours with 6 screen on time
Sent from my GT-N7100

I don't get 6 hours of screen time, but I do always get between 4-5 (since day 1) and that's with all the IM apps I have (everything I do is over the radio).
I did notice that the first day I didn't have anything installed I was going to get crazy hours! Because everything I did was in the menu, play around with options, etc etc.
But after installing ALL my apps, my battery life has settled down on with WIFI & 3G on most of the day, and tons of instant messaging over various apps between 4-5 hours of screen time average.
It depends on your apps and what's going on with your phone. Your phone should get about 500 charges before getting to 80% charge capacity. The phone hasn't been out that long to get to 90%!
I'd suggest looking at your apps (not the battery consumption list, because it could be a combo of TONS of apps that do very little and don't show up on your battery list).

Download "Carat" from the play store, run it and give it a few hours to a day. It'll tell you exactly what's going on.

Greetings,
Mine got better after updated to official 4.1.2 ( Poland version ).
I am very satisfied with battery life .
Vatis

If anything mine has gotten better as I've weeded out the apps that were keeping it awake. Easily going from 6 am to 10 pm, 5+ hours of screen time, and still have 30-40% battery left.

i got 23h total on with almost 9 hours screen on, this was on heavy usage although with powersaver on, lowest brightness and most of my work involved the screen being aorund 60% black so it helped a lot

Desire battery life

Any pointers for increasing battery life? I've disabled live wallpapers, picked a dark background, set friendfeed etc to update every 4 hours, and it's still not great. Phone is new, should I expect battery life to improve as battery gets used a bit?
Are task killers worth using? Seems to be some debate that they might actually cause more problems than they solve.
I've gone through forum and found lots of generic advice but would appreciate any ideas people have tried on the Desire.
Do I *really* need to wturn off wifi when I'm not using it? Isn't the phone smart enough to not use it when a known-network isn't present?
Cheers
From my experience i would advise against having a task killer running.
I used to have one running on my N1 and thought, "Great, i can free up memory". But you really don't need to do that with Android.
Having disabled it from running, I get to teh end of the day and I have between 75 and 85 battery, after having done a fair few phone calls, some net fun and data access.
I still have a task killer but I use it infrequently and dont have it running - i let it "kill" itself after running it.
I found they take up a good deal of battery life. But that's just my opinion.

Of course!
The classic task killers kill services that are sleeping and do no eat battery.
A few minuts later, on some receivers ( connexion to internet, message or SMS received) these services will restart, and that's where they are eating battery.
If you hadn't killed them, they would have done that without eating battery.
Waking up and then going to sleep is really less battery-eater than restarting the whole service.
So, please forget about all these task killers or do that in a smart way. Only kill your game or the latest app you used!
Battery life will improve over the first weeks use. Needs a few charge cycles to achieve full capacity.
Although the battery life might not be as good as some other "imore ipopular" handsets at least you can buy a second reasonably cheap battery if you know you will be a couple of days away from a possible charge (camping etc).

You serious? I am guessing you're referring to the iPhone, the smartphone that is on charge more times than its off charge?
My Desire hands down beats an iPhone for battery life by almost 100% - only ever got 1 day of an iPhone at best - Desire is approaching nearly 2 days full usage, I am no lite user either.
For battery life the Desire is one, if not the best out there at the moment.
thank christ for that, i presume it improves after a couple of charges. mine was new on friday and the battery's pretty uninspiring so far...

My Desire has been up for 21.5 hours and has 3 bars left (according to the settings battery meter) but I've been driving around most of the day with spotify on listening to music, quite a bit of surfing, emailing, calls and a few texts.
I reckon it's probably got another 5+ hours to go yet.
My phone is quite new and battery life is starting to improve daily now.
Hmm... struggle to get more than 5 or 6 hours out if mine under relatively light usage, maybe 20 mins calls and 3 or 4 texts, if I use browser it flatten quicker still, the battery use status usually says Android OS itself has used most battery.
Hoping it will improve, at moment it is poor compared to my TD2 with a smaller battery
P.
had mine about 6 days and my battery is ver poor at the moment. however i remember thinking that about the G1 at first and it got better.
still was luck to get a full day from it. however i went to europe the other week (from uk) so turned all roaming data and syncing off and it lasted 4 days.
fingures crossed battery life increases on the desire, gor a car charger on orded fron fleabay so i should survive
i loved my G1, and found it hard to upgrade, first time thats ever happend, but wow this desire is differnt class, my wife has the iphone and is green and my 16 year old son is gutted he got the hero only 6 months ago.
Re: desire battery life
I've been running my desire for nearly two weeks now.
As usual WiFi & gps are the main culprits.
On average, I have exchange & GMAIL push on 3G all day with a bit of Facebook, sms & several min long calls without going past the three quarter mark by 5:30pm . However as soon as I switch on WiFi at home for browsing, reading news feeds, market etc, bang goes my battery!
Turn off 3G and sync and use it as a phone.......great battery life!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Yea not sure how you guys get good battery out of it. I have everything off, dark background, no synching due to having mobile network off (only thing setup to sync is email every 2 hours). I take a few phone calls maybe 30-40mins, do about 15 mins of surfing, 30 mins of music through headphones at low volume, and a game for 30 mins. That pretty much concludes my battery life for the day (is usually at around 20% left by the time I get home).
I find if I browse the market and download/install apps, my battery will go down very quickly.
Got my desire for a week now and it lasts me 2 days woth some movies, wifi and messaging. if i go even lighter, only messaging and calls it lasted me almost 4 days. it has great battery in my opinion, better than my old hd2 and even better then my old old diamond
Over in General we found an issue with the calendar app keeping the phone from going into sleep mode - That could be a cause for poor battery life.
The thread is here (remove spaces please):
h ttp:// f orum. xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666404
My Desire have no problem on battery so far tho, 1½ day with normal use is no problem. litle use i can use it around 2 days, but with alot off things running i would say for sure it works over a full working day.
Mine has been running for 20 hours now, I have mainly been calling, texting, surfing the net (mainly facebook), and playing a game a couple of times.
I'm not really sure whether this is good or not, I would rather it lasted longer than this, as it is due for a charge within the next few hours, and this is a bit of an awkward time to need to charge it. If I wasn't off work today I'd have a dead phone before I got home.
I don't like to charge mine before it tells me too, I like to think it'll improve the battery life over time? Is this right?
those batteries are not affected by memory effect. charging everytime you can is better than drain battery to 0%
HTC have said there is a software issue with battery levels hench the charging issues. Fix in the future they suggested.
Weather this effects the actual life of battery not sure.
I have just come from the HD2
At the beginning, everyone agreed that the battery life was god awful, and a month or so in everyone reported that the battery life was outstanding!
I can confirm this, to start with it wouldnt last me a day, by the end of it i could leave 3g and wifi on all day with everything running in the background and get a good 2 full days out of it!
I just received the desire yesterday, i gave it a full overnight charge and i must report that for the first charge the battery life looks very promising
I have used the phone VERY heavily even for me with about 100 texts, an hour talking, an hour on the internet and syncing every 15 mins or so and i have 2 bars of battery left, and i said, the battery is only going to get better!
You should look at power management tips for the HD2 as most of them apply, for example disabling 'automatic backlght' and setting it yourself because that alone can add about 30% to your battery life.
currently at 2 days 15 hours with 6/10 battery bars left.
i have gps/wifi/internet disabled and turn them on with the settings widgets when i want to use them. screen brightness at about 20%
the battery is great IMO
Guys could u please tell if I should when receiving my phone charge it directly (full charge) or it's better to empty it completely and then charge it ?
Thanx

[Q] Awful battery life. Should I replace my phone?

As I posted in another thread:
I am lucky to even get 12 hours with minimal use. No calls, just some texting and maybe browsing my bank website. Screen is always the killer for me, even on 20% brightness. If I go lower the screen actually flickers.
I bought the red HTC Chichitech batteries and they didn't help me at all.
Tried overclocking module, didn't change much.
The only app that ever shows any significant battery use (over 5%) is Maps, when I use maps.
Click to collapse
I am rooted, S-OFF, using the Sense Modaco ROM. Battery usage was no better with the Stock Bell Rom before rooting or S-OFF.
My main concern is the screen flickering at low brightness. it's as if it's unable to decide on a specific level of brightness and makes me question if it's actually saving any power.
I set my phone to Auto brightness and I am going to see if that is actually worse of if it's on par with 20%.
Ugh - just realized there is another thread pretty much all about this. I thought it was a different issue. Still, does anyone know if there is a better batch of phones or something? I have a FutureShop warranty so it'd be easy enough for me to replace if it will actually provide a solution
No-one has posted anything, to my knowledge, about a different batch of phones having better battery life. I would check out the other threads about battery life (including those on the G2 side too) and see if you can get yours to last better. But it could just be something faulty on your phone/battery.
Auto-brightness would make it even worse..because there is some type of bug or something that isn't making it function like it should. I was also getting terrible battery life until I followed some of these steps: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life.html
Biggest killers are any widgets that are constantly updating..or facebook/twitter apps that are constantly updating. As well..i recommend SetCPU to underclock your phone when your screen is turned off. This should also help with conserving battery life along with some of the steps provided in that link.

The reason I want to try auto or higher brightness is to see if lowering it was actually saving me any battery life. I am curious if there's a driver or display issues that causes it to use the same amount regardless of the setting. So far I don't seem to be running out any faster @ auto than I was at 20%, but it hasn't been a long enough time to tell for sure.
Also I am unable to do the battery tip for the evo because once I turn off the phone and go to charge it again, it's instantly green. But I am going to try it anyway even though it's green.
Since writing the first post I used the OC module to get my phone to 1.2ghz. I have SetCPU set to run on boot with the onDemand setting. I have a profile that says to slow the CPU when the screen is off. From what I've read it doesn't make a ton of difference with this particular phone, but we'll see...

Yep, that's what I found too, when you try and charge it thinks it's already charged and goes green straight away again. But as you said, worth a try.
I just wanted to report back and say that I had my phone replaced. So far so good:
- No screen flicker issue at low brightness
- Battery has lasted nearly 20 hours with moderate-heavy use (played NFS Shift, setup basically everything on the phone after rooting, installed all my apps, backups, flashed some roms, 20+ texts, 3-4 short calls, showing people random apps.)
If it's not all in my head then this is definitely much better now!
Curious. It seems that everyone who reports the screen flickering problem has poor battery life.
Defective displays?
I feel my battery life is pretty bad as well. I've unplugged the phone this morning at 7 AM. Now it's 2 PM, and I'm at 37%. In between, the only things I've done are: send/receive a few emails and chat on gtalk. Brightness is at 40%, animations are turned off, wifi and gps location off. Using latest Cyanogenmod (6.1.1) and have no screen flicker issues
Edit: 17 minutes later, it's now at 27%
How long have you had the phone for?
Initially the first few days I got the phone, battery life was really bad, could drain in a few hours.
After a week or two of use, I now have reasonable battery life, the phone can last all day with light usage and still have lots of juice left. Actually I think if you make a few calls and a few txts, battery could last 2 days. If you play with it, one day for sure but you need to plug in over night.
(if you're talking to me) It's quite new, just picked it up on Friday actually. Also I've kept on researching, and it seems that poor coverage (like I have at work, from 7 til 3) tends to drain the battery even more, since the phone keeps switching between HSPA, 3G, etc.
I had my first one for about a month at least. This replacement was from Saturday.
Today I've had my phone unplugged since 8am, it's 5:30pm and I have 45% battery left, but the screen is the #2 user. Standby is #1 @ 40% of my battery usage, due to over 4 hours of time without a signal. The screen is only 24% and has been on for 48 minutes. Voice calls is #3 at 23% battery usage, with 23mins of calling.
My other phone would have died by now.
Also I spent an hour of streaming bluetooth audio to my car. Bluetooth doesn't even register on the battery usage. I've never seen it use more than 2% and it's always on. I am not sure why people say it uses a lot.
Just want to share my experience.
I too had poor battery life. Stock Bell ROM. Got to 3:00 pm and it used to die. Use this for work. Pushing data all day from Exchange server, bluetooth on all day because I'm in and out of the car, talk on average 30 minutes per day, texting, surfing, tethering, blah blah. Believe it or not, my old Omnia II would get me thru the day no problem.
I was also tempted to return it. But I decided to try a few things. Installed Set CPU and a task killer at the same time. Shut down as many tasks as possible on start up. Widgets and accounts, except Exchange-push, run and sync every hour. I get about 40% battery by dinner. I am happy now .
I'm quite happy with my Desire Z's battery life, It lasts for about 36 hours with moderate use. I have Juicedefender and Ultimatejuice installed, data or wifi are opened only when an app needs data connection, this increased my battery life by 10 hours or sth like that. Nice app.
I had terrible battery life until I went overseas. It is a stock Bell ROM, but I arrived in Spain Monday and am using a Spanish SIM card.
My battery life has increased from 14 hours with Bell's 3G signal to my current 27 hours and 35% remaining battery using GSM and WiFi always on. Funny thing is that no matter where I am it says the screen is by far my biggest power drain.
Where did you buy your Desire Z and how did you get it replaced? I'm with Bell and they would take mine to send out for "repair" but not sure if that will do anything. This will take 3-6 weeks apparently and I'm not sure if they it is worth it.
I'm running 10 hours with that I consider fair usage (few calls, text, map/gsp, and facebook.) My display is the highest battery usage at 60% and on for about 1:45h. I'm very disappointed.
Hey,
it's the same with my G2.
Max 24h.
I've standard ROM installed.
No WiFi.
Brightness to about 30%.
Juice Defender is installed and I'm surfing and just the regular stuff, but even if it's just in standby, it's taking a lot of power (display takes most)
Best!

I bought mine at FutureShop since I didn't think Bell would let me without buying at least a month of service (or being an existing customer). I also purchased FutureShop's extended warranty which is how I was able to get it swapped for a new one so quickly.
I use the extended battery for the evo. Lasts about 1.5 days with ass loads of use. Just have to trim the plastic edges a bit.

I have a couple of those red chichitech batteries but I wasn't able to notice any improvement with the problem phone.
My Desire Z also has a flickering screen at lowest brightness, and with moderate use it dies after about 12 hours max. Even on lowest brightness the screen ueses 59% battery. I rarely manage to make it through the day without having to charge the phone. Im on stock ROM with latest OTA (1.72) btw.
Gonna have it replaced next week just cause of the flickering screen. Has anyone tried the 1700mAH battery from seidio?

[Q] Desire HD Display draining battery too much...

I've tried everything. And it seems to be getting worse, please help!
It's literally a fresh install, tried with and without JD, lowest settings, gps off, wifi off, 3g off and it's not making a difference - and it's right not to, they are optimised beyond belief and using next to nothing. The display however feels like it's getting progressively worse and at lowest brightness insists on using a **** load of battery.

Fresh installs arent very good on battery life. They take a few days to get up to their maximum. So I would suggest to wait a few days and see what it is like then.
Any idea why? I did the wipe stats but also have had this rom installed for a week or so now.
Which ROM are you on?
And what do you mean by too much? You won't get much more than 12-16 hours out of a Desire HD unless you dont use it for much.
I get around 30+ hours depending on usage, but i don't need to charge it every night if i don't want too (but i do). But i'm not using the crappy stock ROM, but MIUI. CM7 is also good.

I'm on LeeDroid 3.3.3.
That's the thing, I barely manage to reach 12 - 16 hours with low usage; e.g. browsing news/forums - this drains the battery steadily and is depleted in 6 hours or so with lowest settings all around, making for a 'no fun allowed' use of my phone.
Typically the scenario is as follows:
Morning journey 2hr: 100% - 65%, web
Day usage 1 - 2hr: 65 - 50%, few calls, texts, web
Return journey 2hr: 50% - 20% - web
Anything after work is pretty much in the danger zone, power saver makes usage unenjoyable.
I can charge at work, not all the time, but the fact is I shouldn't have to and I am very forgetful/lazy, this phone causes way too much hassle
Could it just be a bad radio flash?
Sent from The App that Time Forgot.
The DHD screen always drain a lot of battery, you really have to play with the screen brightness to keep it for draining your battery in a few hours.
I'm using the rom AR HD 6.1.2 and with the brightness at 35% with the phone last charged 13 hours ago my battery is at 67%, the screen drained 62% of the 33% of battery gone and it was only on for 1h9mn.
It's better than it was on the stock rom but still it could be better...

Hyperion battery under-performing?

Got the Hyperion last week from Amazon and overall I was impressed with its initial performance. It was a huge boost from the oem battery as I didn't have to recharge my phone at all during the day.
My only concern is that I've noticed I haven't been seeing similar numbers as others have mentioned with their Hyperion. I mean, I'm not getting 24+ hrs of use with 8 hrs of on screen time. I'll take a photo next time when its at its lowest charge but I am averaging about 5-6 hrs of on screen time, and thats with basic use, surfing the web, texting, couple phone calls, no games or movies, wifi/gps/sync on, and 30% brightness, non rooted as well.
Does anyone else feel their Hyperion isn't performing as others have claimed?

24+ hours with 8+ hours screen is is down right impossible. The reason people get extended batteries is because they want more than the stocks screen time for 4-5 hours without worrying about their phone dying.
Not really... With the correct kernel and ROM I can push that if not surpass it. Paranoid 2.51 leankernel 1.6 been home all day from the storm... That's 3 hours 12 mins screen on time @ 67% juice left.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For me, not so much. Today for an example, I got a little over 12 hrs until I hit the 5% mark with almost 6 hours of screen on time. Home all day too with wifi on and screen brightness at 30%.
One thing I did notice though is that the "sdcard" used 1 hr and 17 mins of the battery. I've never even seen the sdcard on the activity list before, this is the 2nd time I've seen it since installing the Hyperion battery. Hmm what could it be?
I almost made it.. I'm running Aokp build 4. Not sure what the kernel is.
Plus the batteries have to go through a charging period... I noticed the first day it lasted a long time almost 2 days. (1day22hrs)I forget what the screen on time.

Have you looked at any wakelocks your getting with better battery stats? That is pretty bad for the 4200 batt. Did you do the charging cycles that were detailed in the user manual?
Hey I was just passing by and reading threads, although I don't have this battery, a very possible reason that your battery life might not be as good is that you're still on stock. Notice everyone else who posted is on a custom rom + kernel. The GS3 stock roms are nice but come very bloated with apps. I read somewhere that on stock when you start up your phone, by default it starts a very impressively high number of processes ~50ish. I could be wrong on that but yeah a bloated stock rom MIGHT be the problem. Just my thought.

No I have not tried that app yet.
And yes I did follow the initial charging instructions as well.
It has to be something with the phone because even with the stock battery I had terrible performance, it'd last me only 3 hrs of on screen time where I've heard most users receive around 5.
He is my cpu time, it seems normal since the phone is spent most of its time in deep sleep.
Good at first/No so good after a couple months?
I havce the Hyperion, and have experienced close to 48 hours of life, albeit with very little use. With moderate use, I've experienced 30 hours. My screen time never surpasses 3 hours per day.
A few weeks ago I installed the Serenity 1.1 ROM. I have not been able to get more than 15 hours with that ROM.
This morning, I put in my stock battery, and it has been in for 9 hours so far, and is currently at 83%. I did a reboot about 4 hours ago, so don't have accurate screen-on stats. But I'm never at 83% this time of day with the Hyperion.
ANyone else experience good, then later, poor performance from this battery?
In the beginning I head awesome battery power. Now the battery is horrible I only get 2 hours screen time at 65 percent. Any ideas? Also undervolted and running 1.8mhz but battery still runs hot.

Current battery life?

What kind of battery life is everyone getting now that they've had the phone for a while? I'm down to having to charge the phone twice a day, with less than 2 hours of screen time usually. I'm at 8 hours total, 1 hrs 50 minutes screen time, and down to 25% as I write this. I feel like I got more than twice that when I got this phone 4 months ago. Latest update to MM hasn't made any difference besides it blaming all battery life on screen instead of android system. Total time is almost identical though.
After upgrade to MM my battery is the worst it has ever been. Down to 10% in 10hr with 1hr screen time , this is sick.
Really mine gives me a whole day with heavy use
Sent from my SM-G928T using Tapatalk
Two days for me, on a single full charge. Loving MM.
I just did another factory reset. Going to test it today, but the battery life combined with WiFi issues may just make me do an early upgrade to the 7. I couldn't get two days on this phone even if the screen never came on.
What the hell are u guys running in the background, sheesh. Less than 2hrs SOT is crap. Im at 4:40hrs SOT and currently at 30% battery

That is exactly what these manufacturers and carriers want us to do. Make us wait for a major upgrade, then release a new model phone, then finally upgrade last years flagship but release it with bugs to encourage us to buy the newer model. My .02
My Edge + is currently Stock running MM 6.0.1
(Have a 2nd Edge Plus for rooting and tinkering) heh
I can get 4-5 Screen On time and get around 17-20 hours battery Life.
I'm satisfied with it as I'm a power house user and my Phone is just packed with loads of games and time-wasting apps that take up a lot of cpu power
3 hrs SOT Average. Normal to heavy use. Voice calls with VoLTE on eats more battery than screen! But again, I get good network coverage with VoLTE on. It's a tradeoff!
After 3 resets marshmallow now gives me about 3 hours screen time over a 10-12 hour period, much better. I'll stick with the phone for now!
Two days of light use. All excess garbage like NFC and beaming services turned off or frozen/uninstalled, bloatware frozen or removed with titanium, force doze app (which is awesome).
