[Q] ATT Note on Tmobile network - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi
I have a ATT Note 2 with a t-mobile sim in it with ATT rom/modem/etc. The HSPA worked for like 2 minutes and never worked again. 2g works fine.
Has anyone gotten 3g/3g+ working one ATT note 2 on the tmobile network?
I know note works but couldnt find an answer for Note 2.
Please advice!
Thanks

^^^^^^ 2nd this.
ready to acquire GN2 ATT from local CL. but since i use t-mo cheap 5gb data plan, i am not sure how to benefit the plan. just a thought, you said HSPA worked for 2 mins (or so..) ? did you do any browsing/data usage and get result ? or just monitor the signal bar switching from H+ to E ?

I did a speed test and got 5mbps download. I also have the 5gb plan. There must be a way to get it to work!

Check and make sure your apns are correct.

Has anyone tried flashing a t-mobile modem?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium

I did - it gave me no service

Did you tried flashing a T-Mobile ROM??

yes didnt work either..

@ vish :
another shoot in the dark, do you think it has a relation with the phone being unable to toggle to 3G / UMTS mode ? will you please flash the t-mo radio back and tried :
1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring. It won't come all the way out as it's blocked by the battery. This seems fine - I didn't bother trying to force it out as I didn't want to break anything...
2) Once you see the message that the SIM card is removed, go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
3) You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic". If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G). If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Press the SIM card back into place until it clicks. For whatever reason the phone will not recognize it until you reboot. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.

so with jedi ROM x 6.1.2, 4g signal stays intact ? can you please do speedtest & post it here ?
btw : this 4g signal, supposed to be H+ in t-mobile ? or is it just UI issue ?

Sorry for the late reply - i tried flashing tmobile model and I got either bootloop or no service. Even with the sim card out.
Any other ideas?

Are you sure you are in a refarmed area? Cause if not you will ONLY get EDGE

^^^ what he said. T-Mobile is refarming their network to be compatible with AT&T's 3G frequencies but only in certain cities right now. Check their website, it tells what cities. They may be testing in your area. Otherwise you'll only get edge because the note 2 can't do what the note 1 did. It's an exynos thing.

Has anyone tried this SIM card release thing to force 3G on t-mobile network on a AT&T Note 2 phone? did it work? or did I misunderstand this post to be a solution to getting 3G/4G on tmobile network?
Please help

Only edge will work. Get a t mobile device or switch to att.

[How to] disable LTE on AT&T S3 (you can disable HSPA+ too)

I have read that you can change your APN settings to turn off LTE. However, I found another way (with the help of carefreelife). Use at your own risk! I am not responsible for any harm you may do though it seems fairly safe to me!:
UPDATE: THERE IS NOW AN EASIER METHOD TO DO THIS WITHOUT PULLING THE SIM AND REBOOTING (check out post #47 below or use this link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37310325&postcount=47
[OLD METHOD]1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring.
Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.[/OLD METHOD]
I was attempting to follow this procedure for the S2:
{Trick} Get Around "RAT SELECTION RESTRICTED" on i897 modems! - xda-developers
...but I couldn't get the SIM out easily so I left it in...and followed the steps. It wouldn't recognize that the SIM had been reinserted so I gave up and rebooted...and it worked! No need to mess with airplane mode or anything just follow the steps above.
I was then able to follow the same procedure and turn back on the default setting which was "1) Automatic". After a reboot I am again connected to LTE.
Reason I'm using this: I'm testing a major battery drain issue that might be related to LTE/HSPA+ switching.
Reason you might want this: If you have poor LTE signal or even poor HSPA+ signal and want your phone to stop trying to connect to that network, this will stop it.
UPDATE:
A little bit of bad news here:
I have been on "WCDMA All" (HSPA+ aka 3G4/G, with LTE disabled) for 10 days now with ZERO problems whatsoever.
However, I am pretty sure that whichever you choose, if not "Automatic", you will be locked to ONLY that band:
i.e. if you choose "WCDMA All" you will not only be disabling LTE, but also 2G (EDGE) as well. You may not need it (and if so, it will not effect you) - but if your phone loses the HSPA+ signal, it will not fall back to 2G unless you change the setting.
I tested this theory by setting my phone to "LTE all" and trying to call myself from another phone. The call went straight to my voicemail. LTE is data only (for now) and when you receive a call, it switches to HSPA+. Unfortunately, since I had set my phone to "LTE All", it stayed on LTE and could not receive the call.
This may not be a deal-breaker but it's something to be aware of, for sure. I only tested "LTE All" because it was easy to do so, but I am assuming the same applies for the other settings...only "Automatic" would seem to pick the best available network.

Edited OP and changed thread title. Please help me test this. Thanks!
Just out of my curiosity, can you not do this:
settings > wireless and networks > more settings > mobile networks > network mode > GSM/HSPA
I have the Bell version, which is similar to ATT's, wondering if ATT disabled that option.

Yes, it is disabled on AT&T versions. If you try the method I listed above without removing the SIM card, it will be blocked as well.
AT&T does not want us to have any control over which network we connect to. It's been speculated that they want us forced on to LTE to take strain off the HSPA network. Honestly I think that's fine - though I prefer to have a choice - except that I suspect LTE switching is causing my battery drain issue and I need to turn it off in order to test that theory.

carefreelife at Android Central forums showed me that WCDMA All is the proper setting to disable LTE and stay on HSPA. It's working for me and seems to be perfect!

My battery life is great too - there just seems to be a bug that causes it to suddenly become terrible and drain fast until it's rebooted. This is just a method I'm using to test it.
It's possible that disabling LTE can increase battery life but I'm not sure there's any evidence that LTE uses more battery than HSPA+. On older phones the LTE was not integrated into the SoC and thus was a power hog...but it's integrated on the S3.
For users who are on fringe areas and receive poor LTE or HSPA+ coverage...the phone will use extra battery trying to connect and stay connected to those...even if it's [mostly] unsuccessful. Using this method would be a good idea for people who would rather just stay on the bands with strong signal and stop wasting battery trying to get on LTE or HSPA+ fruitlessly.
Thanks a lot for this I've been wanting to switch to 2g only THANKS

Hey what's up. I don't know what combination bands are - haven't ever used the Captivate.
And yes I'm still working on those battery issues...I'm hoping that THIS fixes it...even though it would meaning losing LTE for the time being...at least I'd know what's causing it!

You can mix the different bands between wcdma and gsm and their frequencies, that way you can get the best signal in your area.

I can't guarantee this works with any modifications to stock as I have only done it on my unrooted stock AT&T S3.
CM10. I just learned that you can only use dialer codes on stock roms. AOSP roms don't recognize them. There's a small few that work. obviously this one doesn't. Where can I find the APN info?
Nice find!! Works perfectly with my AT&T Galaxy S3. Going to test it out for a few days. I have 4G LTE where I live but when I go to college in the fall there won't be any LTE. This will come in handy!
However, with the WCDMA option enabled, does this mean you only have access to 3G and not 2G? Sometimes when I am in rural areas there is no 3G so I need to use EDGE or GSM. Hopefully with the WCDMA all enabled 2G is still accessible.

That's a great question. I have looked at it like a hierarchy but there's plenty of reason to believe it could be otherwise. There's not really anywhere in Miami I can go that doesn't have really strong HSPA+ so I don't know how I can test it. If anyone can do this test themselves and see what happens when you leave a 3G area please post results here.
Actually, once I am done testing the battery drain I could switch from Automatic to LTE and find somewhere in Miami where there's only 3G and see if it switches down to 3G or just loses signal entirely. Someone could also switch to LTE mode and try to receive a phone call...if it is truly locked on ONLY LTE then it won't be able to take a call...
The more I think about it the more it seems like this could be a major drawback of this method. I look forward to testing this later and hearing what you guys find as well. Thanks!

I'd also love to know if 2G works, but I can't while in North California. There isn't a single place within a 20 mile radius of where I live that doesn't have full LTE and HSPA+ coverage since so many people live here. I go to college in a fairly rural area in California though so in late September I'll be able to confirm if we can get 2G with the WCDMA method.

Tmobile S4 on AT&T cannot connect to LTE help!

Hey everyone!
So I picked up a tmobile s4 to use on ATT since I read it was the most unlocked due to bands / bootlocker. I unlocked it via the method described on this site via the debug menu.
Popped in ATT sim, everything looked fine initially.
1. I'm only getting 4G in an LTE area. device hasn't picked up any LTE anywhere yet.
2. When I go under "Network Mode" and select "LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) the signal dies out and it always reverts back to GSM/WCDMA"
3. I've called ATT a few times and triple checked that I'm on an Android LTE data plan, so that's not an issue. ATT techs suggested it could be a device issue and maybe I should take it into their tech center.
4. Tried to set up ATT Visual Voicemail, that failed also.
So can it be a Sim issue? Maybe something on tmobiles side? Since device was never active on their network. A lemon S4?
I've run out of options
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA!

I only got edge at first too but I know I live in a refarmed 1900 MHz area so I went under settings to network operators and searched networks manually and chose tmobile rat:14 when it gave me my options. Now I get 4g umts- hspap. I use wifi while home and after I leave sometimes it will revert back to edge. I went into the hidden menu but I didn't see how to select band prefence anywhere so im lost on how to get lte to work.
I know at&t and tmobile use the same lte band I just cant figure out how to select it to make it work. Try selecting setting>networks>tethering and networks>mobile networks>network operators>search networks. A few different tmobile ones should pop up with rat:2 rat:3 and rat:14 underneath. When I selected rat:2 it only stayed on edge but all other options gave me 4g.Hope that helps to at least get you 4g working.

I am pretty sure for LTE to work on T mobile, you have to make sure the apn is set to fast.tmobile.com. Your Sim might be setting it to the default epc.tmobile.com, which will only give you HSPA+.

I appreciate the help but for some reason it still wont get lte. I have tried all the different apns I can find and after I enter it if it still only goes to 4g then I reboot. Is there anyway to select lte only from any hidden menus or an app or something?

on other phones, the following menu lets you pick what you want your data to be: *#*#4636#*#*, then pick lte/gsm auto from there.

I tried but it doesn't have the option to change the network mode. I actually just edited my build.prop to enable network mode under settings and it worked!!! I finally got lte by choosing lte/wcdma option. When all the options appeared my lte appeared to be shut off .So all I had to do was turn it back on. Huge thanks to MrDSL for the help.
After changing my network mode to lte wcdma my phone kept saying roaming notification off at the top of the status bar and all I could use was data ( lte at least) and wouldn't make calls and the network mode menu actually disappeared. So after putting in a at&t sim card and rebooting my phone about 20 times the network mode menu popped back up and allowed me to change my preference to gsm/wcdma/lte and luckly its working perfect now.

LTE Connection problems

For those of you have LTE connection issues when in the past LTE worked fine I want to share what I did and it worked. I am not in a Spark area and after getting the update from Sprint I lost LTE connection at work. I previously had LTE a 100% of the time at work. I noticed that a lot of folks on the Sprint forums were having the very same issue. After researching with Sprint to solve my problem (They were no help at all), and the combination of things I read here on xda (I can't find the forum So I take not credit for this) I want to share the solution that worked for me.
1. Call Sprint and obtain your MSL code
2. In the phone dialer enter ##3282#
3. press LTE and enter edit, Enter MSL code
4. Click on LTE, then bands 26 and 41 and disable both of them
5. Phone should reboot and LTE should work as it did before
If someone would be so kind if I can't find the threads on here I would like to link them and give credit were it is due.
I just wanted to share what worked for me.

Then this mod doesn't really pertain to you. It just turns off those connections for Sprints Spark system.

Just a note if you get a profile or prl update that you did not initiate you will have to turn off bands 26 and 41 again following the steps above.
Disabling bands 26 (800mhz) and 41 (2500mhz) seems counterproductive to the gains that Sprint Spark is supposed to bring. I'm guessing it's probably region specific to those having LTE issues where disabling these bands "fixes" whatever issues you're having (maybe Spark is not fully deployed, etc). I'm not having these LTE issues by the way, and LTE coverage here in NYC has improved to the point that i even get LTE in some underground subway stations.

That's the exact problem, the roll out is far from nation wide. So if you are in a non spark area, the phone constantly seems to search for it. My battery life significantly decreased on ZVC. Once I shut off those bands, my LTE was much more stable and battery life improved greatly.

SOS. my phone stuck on EDGE

Since i changed a new rom(cm11) for my unlocked i747, I could not receive any hspa+ internet(I am using h2o). at the begining, i thought it was because of the lost imei, so i fixed it, but it was not working. then i opened *#*#4636#*#*, and selected wcdma perfered, it changed to h+, but about 1 min later, it turned back to Edge. if i select wcdma only, I can use h+ 1min and then no more signal even edge. also cannot make phone call and texting. i dont know why. the APN setting is right. and anyone tells me what should I do. thanks very much!

i had tried some other rom. i even regressed it to the originally official rom. it was will EDGE. I wonder the possibility is that some important files has lost. but i didnt find any solutions.
These seem like pretty routine questions but have you checked to see if another phone has the same reception problems?
