How did you get that FW? I just have 6.1.A.2.50.
Can you upload your FW?
About root: You can flash 6.1.A.2.50 kernel, then root, then flash again 6.1.A.2.55 kernel.
Curious also, I've got the 6.1.A.2.45 stock firmware myself, with a kernel stamp of July 30th.

and do update in build in "update center".
Then update to 6.1.A.2.55 kernel automatically.

You could either unlock the bootloader and flash a custom kernel and/or firmware which is pre-rooted, or try using this tool to root your SL.

Hi!
Can you provide us with the .ftf file of your firmware that came with the xperia SL? I tried searching in XDA and couldn't find stock ROMs for the SL. I just want it in case I need it to revert back to stock for warranty purposes. I flashed an Xperia S ROM without doing a backup. Although everything works fine, the Sony Bridge for Mac is detecting my phone as an xperia S. I know I can root and edit build.prop but flashing a stock ROM of the SL is easier as I don't need to root.

I have successfully rooted Sony Xperia SL LT26ii
His firmware was 6.1.a.2.55 (Unable to root using root_with_restore_by_bin4ry_v18)
so these are the steps to ROOT
1) Download flash tool and firmware LT26ii_4.0.4_DE_6.1.A.2.45.ftf
2) Make sure you have drivers install for your mobile
3) Flash LT26ii_4.0.4_DE_6.1.A.2.45.ftf using flashtool
4) Now use root_with_restore_by_bin4ry_v18 for rooting your device

After doing this means that your firmware now back to 6.1.A.2.45 ?

This guy seems like you just rooted 2.45 not 2.55.

Since we now have Recovery fully working its a lot easier to root the device. I have made a simpler package for easier rooting and installing busybox.
Steps:
Download the: SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip and save it on phone (external sdcard)
Just flash any kernel which contains recovery (for stock based ROM) [e.g.: Advanced Stock Kernel]
Boot into recovery and flash that file "SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip"
now reboot and the firmware will be fully rooted with SuperSU and Busybox installed!!!

Given it's a ftf, and I have 6.2.B.0.200 (leaked with root) already installed, I should be able to use flashtool on my Win7 PC and just flash the ftf onto my XPERIA S.
I'm guessing I'll lose root access.
If I then have a non-rooted 6.2.B.0.200 build, what is the 'preferred' way to restore/gain root access again?
Should I hang ten awaiting a pre-rooted build which one would installed via CWM/xRecovery and a /mnt/sdcard/ located ZIP ROM. (reset, clear caches and etc)
Just thinking I should really start with a clean build to reduce any oddities and move on from the 'leaked' version(s).

the customization for India 4.1.2 is R11A and 4.2.2 is R4B. There is no R4B for 4.1.2.
I made cwm flashable zip as per the above guide now before flashing which steps should i undertake for the safety of my device???
How to join
the files i have downloaded are in parts and are showing file type as 001 & 002
Please help me how to join them into a single ftf file

If you are on stock firmware, just wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing. If you are on other than stock then you have to wipe data also.

In flashtool untick all other flashable files except kernel.
Also untick wipe data n cache.

if you look files name understand write C2004_15.1.A.2.5_GENERIC IN.
but because of several people said it i change title to 15.2.A.2.5

The one with .tft file extension. Use FlashTool and this guide. I also recommend 4.3 Android which you can download with this tool.

just download a new flashtool
and download .ftf firmware...
flash with flashtool bro...

I have the 4.1.2 Original Genuine Sony FTF Firmware file for worldwide usage (15.1.C.2.8 for C1905 - you'll need to make sure yours is the c1905 model) and the flashtool - if you like I can upload them for you and put links up for you to download as well as instructions on how to do a rollback/reset step-by-step.
