Are they all 4.2 roms? I've read that 4.2 android has problems with wifi just like you describe. Do some googling for that.
Edit: I mean 4.1.2 roms are where I've seen the issue discussed. Check out the note 7105 forums.

Im having no wifi issue running Clean3.3 with PK29

I've been using the 4.1.2 ROMs that's been posted like jelly beer and notorious ROM and the international ROMs for the note 2 but every time I flash those using twrp I always have a hard time catching WiFi.....it justs sits at obtaining IP address and then goes to poor network error......any help?

My wifi issue is that every time that i restart the phone the wifi doesn't reconnect automatically. Very irritating.

Yeah mine would rarely connect ...idk what it is or whats going on......

First get rid of that smart AT&T wi-fi crap that is loaded...then load up Jelly Thunder Blackout...
No wi-fi issue with mine at all..

there's no wifi issue on my Rom. I use it everyday just fine, both 2.4 & 5 bands
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium

I had some issues like that. I configured my home router to assign a static ip address to my note 2. Then I went to the network settings on the phone and changed it from dhcp to static and put in the other info required. Now it connects instantly.

sorry, no. I gather you want to know either way.
I used NOTEorious for 3-4 days, absolutely 0 issues connecting to WiFi at home. I'm using a Ubiquiti Power AP N
It also worked with my MikroTik RB751G-2HnD
DHCP, no static...
Albeit it's only been a week since I've had this phone. My current ROM is also working fine. I've been using Perseus kernel since I got it. I have not used any other kernels, including stock. I used Perseus or Siyah on my S3, so I continue to use the kernel I preferred on my last phone...

Well its just that when I turn off and on my WiFi then it gets stuck at obtaining IP address and then doesn't automatically connect like it typically should

At least it's consistent.. Hmm, what kernel(s) have you been using?
if you're doing full wipes and what not it'd be odd if just the dhcp daemon of the system was corrupt across multiple roms.....but i could be wrong, i'm no expert lol

im using the PK29 kernel

Apparently there are issues with 29, as he updated the WiFi driver. He reverted the driver update on 29.1. If you are still on 29 I'd recommend updating. Hmm...

Static ip won't help, yes you can connect to wifi, but cannot get connection to internet. This is a bug of android, and ITs in Princeton univ. had some investigation. 4.2 should have fixed it

Mine must have been a different issue. When I went to static ip I was able to get to the internet very quickly.

Looks like a good place to ask....where the hell is wifi scan interval set at on Note 2?? I looked in my build.prop where it normally is but didn't see it. Its usually set low (around 20) by stock and I always up that to 150-180 so I am not constantly scanning for other Wi-Fi when I am at home or locked on a good network.

GPS patch for CWM

A GPS fix for folks with GPS issues. I've noticed GPS breaks with every flash of a new rom so I figured I'd post this link as I've noticed I'm not the only one. Just flash through cwm. Absolutely no wiping WHAT SO EVER is needed. Works flawlessly every time. I get locks within seconds. The screenshot below was taken in my home which is built from brick and mortar. Not too shabby!

Incorrect. Wifi triangulated. Which is why I posted the GPS status screenshot. See the 7/19. Yea that means I was locked onto 7 out of 19 available satellite signals.
Ugh.

Never said its solely depended on your wifi. Google keeps a database of wifi locations to help with triangulation which in turn help you lock faster. Turn wifi off and see how fast of a lock you get. Thanks for reading

Looks good. Appreciated.

Uhh not sure what you mean
Wifi tether is when your on a mobile data connection (4g/Edge) and you don't have Wifi...you turn it on and it acts as a router or hotspot and lets your laptop connect to it.
If your in an area with Wifi that you can connect to you don't need to use the app. The apps pretty much only for when your in a location w/o wifi.
Thanks man it works great, I was getting errors at first but after switching to the galaxy nexus gsm profile everything was all good

Tether on Jelly Bean

Ok So i'm running the New Jelly Bean Update and I am Rooted. I have noticed this is very buggy but it works. I don't know if other methods work this is the one i used. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this but if you download WiFi Hotspot / WiFi Tether from the market, i believe its INNODROAPPS, then open it and click Tether, then Click USB Tether. It will say invaild user name if you keep turning this one and off randomly eventually it will still be checked and you will have your 3g still. Sometimes i can do it in the first try something it takes like 50 but at least its a tether option for now. Unless someone knows a better way, would love to hear it.

Is anybody able to connect with Clockworkmod tether
I used clockwork tether before but it's been a while.
After the JB update I updated the Tether app (had to DL clock clockworkmod because gogle play says our carrier does not support).
I can connect and use clockworkmod tether as long as my phone has WiFi enabled. However, when I disable the WiFi and try to connect using sprints network, it does not connect and I see the PC driver (Linux) opening and closing the connection continuously.
It seems like Sprint has figure out how to stop this?
I'm in the Orange County Ca, area.
Anybody here able to use cwm tether on the sprint network?
BTW: EasyTether Still works and can still get it from google play but I guess that's because Sprint can detect this one...
Update: Nevermind, it's now seems to have started working. Don't know what was going on but I've never had any trouble with this app before.
Now, If I just figure out how to get my premium license back...

If you do a google search for clockworkmod tether on the web (computer) you will get the google play page amoung the items.
Go to the Google Play page then scroll down a little to the description and click MORE.
In the full description there are links to download the app from clockwork and the drivers for Windoz, Linux and Mac.
I don't know about OSX but for linux, you will need a compiler on the system.

It is not just modding an app. There are dozens of network and registration checks scattered throughout framework.jar and framework2.jar and they are very well hidden. This is the same reason the guy on the Droid forums never got the Verizon NFL app broken the second year...too many reg checks throughout the ROMs. Either keep an ICS nandroid backup or a CM10 backup for when you need to tether.

WiFi Hotspot Hack discovered by T-Mobile

I am starting this OP because this has become an issue across all custom ROMs at this point.
T-Mobile knows it is happening and their detection is actually impressively quick. They are very quick and have actually blocked my tethering within seconds of being warned.
I think it makes sense to have a forum where people can explain the situation instead of in the ROM thread where we all can state which ROM we are using, how we set up the hotspot, what device we used to connect to our phone and how fast we were detected by T-Mobile.

Happens on Macs a lot easier for some reason. Go get chrome and get the user agent switcher. Change it to android and you're set.

Yea its here. Just install as a normal app and use the app for tether. Do not use the phones toggles or anything already on phone use the app.. Its here http://db.tt/BKG1Cigj
If it works for you let me know.. And no it requires nothing, at least for me and I have zero tethering plan just unlimited data and 500 mins.
I just turn on.. I don't use fall back or anything else. For me no user agent switch whatsoever..

sending mms over wifi

So I just recently made the switch from the MyTouch 4g. I never had issues with 4g or sending mms over wifi. Now with this phone, I can no longer do it. I have searched and searched and can't find a viable solution/reason why that is. I also can't get 4g in my apartment either. I tried to send mms over the network and I'm always showing E with greyed out bars. What am I missing?
Nino
Are you using stock messaging app or third party?

Check mms settings. There is special section for mms and large size mms are aviable for 4g networks only. Limit the size and that may work for you

Thank you for the link. I've been to that thread a few times. I don't have an ad blocker installed, but I'm going to try the manual apn change for the ip address and see of that helps.
I can't believe this phone can't run wifi and the network at the same time without problems.
I haven't had issues with it. Though it only works when I have wifi calling enabled. Otherwise it sends through the network.

I'd like to know this also, I have a crappy coverage area in my house and I have to rely on my wifi for data and I have to walk outside around the corner if I have to send an mms.

Do you have the Wi-Fi calling feature active on your phone? Carrier sms/mms should only be able to work on carrier signals or T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling. Plain Wi-Fi won't work iirc.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Bro T-Mobile can't even get this to work. It just not gonna happen. I have heard so many people say it works. Then I tell em to shut off data part of phone and leave WiFi on and nothing. It just not gonna work the way we want it to.

For all those non believers mms over wifi only works when calling over wifi is enabled here's proof, im in a crappy coverage area right now so I'm relying on wifi for data switched on wifi calling sent a pic and viola worked! Before it would activate my mobile network and start sending like that but since I have edge here right now it would have taken forever.

I can confirm mms via wifi, using stock messaging app.
I tried the method that dwitherell suggested oh his Tweaked ROM thread pushing the gba-service-TMO-Signed.apk to /system/app
That did the trick for me.

MMS via Wifi or MMS via Wifi Calling? There is a big difference.

MMS via WiFi with WiFi Calling enabled. Using the stock messaging app. Tried with GoSms and it didn't work.
Mms over wifi only works with wifi calling enabled. Also make sure it's on wifi preferred. Otherwise you cannot send mms over wifi.

Okay folks. Seems it just doesn't work in my apartment. It will not send over wifi, but it does switch over out in town. Guess that's just the nature of the beast. Thanks all for the assistance!

You never mention if your phone has Wi-Fi calling and if so is it running? As have been discussed, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling are 2 different things.
Most of the Note 2 roms here do not have Wi-Fi Calling built in if you happen to install a different rom.

Wifi calling was disabled. I just enabled it and will see how that works out.
