[A] Mods without hacking APKs or custom rom (multiwindow any app) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Install and run Exploit apk to get root:
Install XposedInstaller-ICS_JB-rc2.apk, follow instructions on post.
Install XposedMultiWindow.apk.
Open the Xposed Installer app (installed in step 2). Click 'Modules', then check 'xMulti Window Mod', and reboot. (activates the run-time patch allowing all apps to be multiwindow compatible).
BTW, there are more cool Xposed modules (like call recording, per-app dpi, and no 100% battery notification) you can download here. Xposedframework eliminates the need for stock rom chefs imho.

Amazing

So if I installed the new stock deodexed rooted Rom from teshxx (which has the new Tmo multi window update) I can still use the above method to add multiple apps to multiwindow?

Yes, you can use xposed with any rom.

How do I know if the multi-window works? I followed all these steps, but what I got is exactly the same as before. Where is the multi-window and how to call it out? Tried long press the return button but nothing happened. Or it does not work for T-mobile device?

I have completed the installation and have to admit that this made my night. Huge props to the person who developed this. Installing on my partners note 2 as well. Looking forward to seeing what else xposed comesbup with

Did you do the T-mobile update from yesterday? If so toggle multi window on in Settings--->Display. If you've done that then hold down your back button for a couple seconds the multi window should pop up at the left. You can hold back to hide it again.

Updated the subject. As the post above states, you need to be running the newest update.
This situation is an excellent example of why the xposed framework is such a great way to mod.
Had this been a standard flash patch, you would likely have force closes, or worse a soft brick.
With xposed, those problems are a thing of the past. If it can't hook the mod in, nothing happens (just as you are seeing). Hopefully in a future release there will be some indicator if a mod cant be hooked in.

Nevermind... got it working. F'n awesome, thank you!

Thank you for posting this mod. This made my day - I like keeping my phones with stock rom for as long as I can for stability sakes, and this mod is just what I needed.

Are there any draw backs to this mod? I was reading the original Exploit apk post and some are talking about a green camera screen.

If you just root through the app you'll be fine. The green camera screen happens when you check the boxes to actually disable the exploit.

Can someone please answer this? I don't want to get this mod and have every single app of mine show up on the multi window list, I just want a certain selection of apps
edit: nevermind, I installed it and you get to choose the apps to add to the list if anyone is wondering. They don't all just show up on the bar, you get a list of yours app and you edit the bar to choose what you want to add

Maybe you misunderstood him? All apps will only show when you click on edit. From that edit screen, you can then drag specific apps over to the multiview bar. After you're done editing, only apps you dragged over will show on the bar.
So two different things here: edit screen and the bar itself.

Hello everyone.
One question on this root process, can we install and use overclock applications such as SetCPU and TunerPro?
And if we had to, can the process be reversed and go back to stock unroot Note II?
Thank you.

1. Yes, once you're rooted, you can use apps that request root like SetCPU, Titanium Backup, AdAway, etc.
2. Yes, if you're on stock rom and recovery, you just go to SuperSu > Settings > Full Unroot.

Wow thanks that's the fastest root i have done. ALSO easy to be on Stock rom and have multi Window with every single app. Much thanks

SuperSU icon is gone.

I just went to look for SuperSU in my icon drawer and it is not there. I have checked 4 times and rebooted. I am almost sure it was there last week. All my rooted programs work fine, and SuperSU does show up in Application Manager/All, but not in TB. Is this anything I should be concerned with? I went to SuperSU in the playstore, and there is no option to install. Thx.

the only way ive ever seen this accomplished is to have supersu baked into the ROM. If you got it done another way, let us all know please!
I had the same question. The SuperSU settings can be found in the Settings menu. It was kind of frustrating when it happened to me. I noticed that the SuperSU was properly working and prompting for root access when new rooted apps were installed, but I just couldn't find the app icon itself so I can enter the SuperSU settings.

[ATT/TMO/SPR + more] [Aroma De-Bloater] v1.00 Updated 11.17.2012

mrRobinson Note II De-Bloater
This is a fancy little Aroma Installer you can flash in CWM or TWRP and choose all the bloatware you want to remove from your system.
For any Galaxy Note II variant!
There are a few main selections.
Minimal de-bloat will remove everything that is recommended to remove.
Full de-bloat will remove everything that anyone would want to remove without breaking the system.
Individual sections for carrier, ATT, Sprint, Tmobile, More will be added...
Customize de-bloat lets you pick inter-matching between all the sections.
Most of you should choose "Custom". This will show you the lists with Recommended all being selected already and the deeper de-bloat apps being unselected. You can modify as you see fit.
Please take note, you can "flash" this in CWM and it will do nothing until you make your selections and then tell it to. So you can safely flash it, go to custom and peruse around at all the apps it can remove. If you want to do nothing simply bring up the menu and quit the installer.
HOW TO USE:
*Note, this will wipe cache and dalvik-cache for you so you don't have to.
Boot into recovery, from power off [hold vol.up + Home + power] until phone vibrates then release
Select Custom to modify selections of what is removed
click "de-bloat" button
thats it
Aroma info
*scrolling and/or touch can be off at times. No matter where you are volume keys can be used to scroll around, the back and menu keys function as expected and home or power buttons can be used to select.
Download: mrRobinson_Note_II_De_Bloater.v1.00.zip
Feedback: Please let me know if you would like more apps added to the minimal or full list. As long as they don't cause unnecessary FC's I'll add them.

This is good. Tks op
Well yes this is good. I wasn't able to test it and there have been almost 100 downloads now so I assume I at least had no syntax errors in the aroma. :good:

make sure the apps that are still there weren't updated from market. if they were this removed them from system but their update will still reside in /data/app so you will want to remove it from there.
Working on re-bloat option... restoring apps you removed. Might even be able to add "disable" option first so you can safely test what you want to remove.

Great work!
the debloat froze when it got to Yahoo news & weather for me. I had to do a battery pull. when the phone rebooted it seemed fine. I went back into the debloat and did a custom debloat and just unchecked Yahoo news & weather and it worked fine. this was on a Tmobile note II.
Well yes this is good

it will only be able to add if you had debloated them with this tool. in other words it will copy them off to your sd card so anything you had removed you have the option to put back on. if you flash a sep rom with stuff already removed that wouldn't help you in this case. someone can just post that apk for you.
I must be missing something how to use this.
Can we add Rogers to the list so we can remove all the Rogers bloat ware. There's like 6 bloat apps by Rogers.

Yea I can add those.
Will running this delete my personal settings and data?
Great tool, but several apps were not removed:
MediaHub
AT&T Navigator
MobileHotspot
S Suggest
myAT&T
I definitely remember checking mediahub to be removed, but I'm not sure if the other apps are listed in the de-bloater.
None of these apps were updated. Haven't done anything beyond rooting and installing CWM. In fact, my Google account hasn't even been setup. Why? I'm in the process of switching from Sprint Galaxy Note 2 to the AT&T version.
bump more people try this!
I tried it and went to custom. However many were prechecked. For a custom I expect it to not be prechecked. Also, how do I exit? I had to uncheck everything and pray nothing happened when I continued.

How To Enable "OK Google Everywhere" On Touchwiz

I have only done this on custom TouchWiz roms, so not sure if it works on other roms. It's pretty easy, you must have Titanium Backup and Root Explorer(or similar).
1. Open Titanium Backup and find Google Search 3.5.16.1262550.arm(or whatever version you have). Convert it to a System App.
2. Open Root Explorer and go to /system/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk and move it to /system/priv-app/
3. Reboot ur phone and you should be able to see the settings to enable OK Google on any screen in the Google Search Settings.
Enjoy!!
Thanks so much for the info, it did the trick! I already had it installed as a system app, but moving it to the priv-app folder made all the options show up.

Does anyone know a way to remove the su app from showing in the leanback launcher. Can't find it in the settings anywhere.
Pardon my ignorance, but what does this do exactly? ...aside from the obvious "gives you root"...I mean how, what does it do to the system?

Are you referring to the launcher settings or SuperSU settings there should be an option in SuperSU settings to set the SuperSU icon to invisible.
I just happened to check my system today and had the OTA update from LRX21M to LRX21V waiting. I tried installing it but Recovery stopped halfway through the install with an Error. I got back into Android with a power-cycle, so things are fine, but it's still on 21M.
I'm guessing this was due to having rooted the device. Is there a proper way to remove SuperSU to allow for a system update? I see there are 3 different options for cleaning up; does it particularly matter which one I choose? I could just pick one and try it but I'm kind of curious what the differences are between the options. Anybody know?
Update: I tried the second and third cleanup options (new superuser app and full unroot) and neither got me into a state where the OTA was successful. So I just downloaded the factory image and flashed the system.img from it, then reapplied the original root process.

probably a full unroot and flashing the stock boot.img would fully unroot, I wonder when LRX22C (5.0.1) will hit the nexus player
The root is fundamental in all devices for many things, and thanks to Chainfire and others independent developers we can consider Android a semi-open platform. (semi-open because not all is open source)
We don't want Android like the Apple walled garden, but we are not even against the sale of the software, we just want a common garden in which the user can choose and is not obliged.
For example with the root, it was easier to start this project:
Nexus Player with a Full Version of Android Lollipop https://plus.google.com/103019026671039069038/posts/V5XaLxK3vN8
This is just the base rom with all hardware components working, on this base that is very usable, i want add many other options. like external usb webcam and mic, improving the audio part that have fixed volume and many other things useful for the use in TV.
Nexus Player is not just Android TV, but is the first Nexus device with an intel cpu. Is a milestone in the evolution of Android.
This is just the start and I am very open to sharing and collaboration on this project.
Thanks Chainfire for the root and for your "How-To SU" guidelines.
Out of interest will rooting prevent OTA updates from installing in the future?

I did this, despite the warning it gave me. Now although I still get permission dialogs etc, I can not run the main program to delete apps etc from SU access. Is there anyway to go back to the main screen? I went to the apps sections of the NP and unlike other apps it didnt have an open command.
To get it back do I need to uninstall and then re-CFroot?
Thanks. I should pay better attention to dialog boxes but its not a huge deal.

I'd recommend refraining from rooting to prevent Samsung pay from being disabled. You may not care about the feature, but I would imagine resale value will go down. I'm a Sprint employee, and in no way am I representing them in an official capacity, but I would at least hold off until there is some sure way to root without tripping Knox. I would presume that Tripping Knox may also cause some grief some Enterprise features. Just something to think about.
