[Q] Senior members; Experienced users! Can anyone of you assist me with rooting? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

I have (ORI) Android GB 2.3.6 & Kernel 2.6.35.7 and I wanna root to CM9B4.. I don't really have the time to read the long intructions, so is there anyone who can guide me step by step as I root my phone? It would be my first. Please and thank you!

With all due respect, we ALL had to do our research before we achieved our end goal if flashing a custom ROM.....
However you get started, nobody is going to do it for you....we will help if you run into difficulties......
But you really need to help yourself. Nothing annoys *some* members more than a new join who isn't prepared to do the legwork. Luckily I'm answering your post instead of one if them......
If you look at this thread I created....

It will answer all your questions, and if you follow it EXACTLY and IN ORDER you will achieve what you want.....

Hehee, I guess so.

download the "update.zip" which is the root file, from the main root thread, then put it on ur internal storage, while ur phone is off, keep pushing volume up,home button and power button, when phone lights up just remove the finger over the power button and wait, strange mode will appear like the pics on the thread of rooting, tap over the menu button "touch sensitive button on left of home button" then ur recovery mode is working , now press volume down to to select apply update from sdcard then push home button to enter ur choice "navigation through options is done by volume buttons, touch screen isnt working" then apply ur update.zip file then from main menu choose reboot system, when ur phone wakes to normal mode just look for superuser icon (if u have it then ur rooted)

you don't want read carefully...:laugh::laugh:
don't worry it happens me too, sometimes even if you do the right things the process don't go well
format your card in a pc with FAT32 format and retry to do the backup... if something is wrong you must reinstall CWM (how do you install? with odin or with terminal mode?)
as you can see even if the things are simple... you must read... guides or threads don't be important... you must read
I hope you can solve yr problems
edit: and please be patient... don't touch anything when the phone is still making backup or flash any custom rom/CWM... wait the result it show in the screen before touching any key

dont format ur sdcard from ur phone, instead, plug ur sdcard to ur pc and check if it is readable (may or may not be readable) if its readable then u can salvage ur very imp data (dont copy the whole sdcard just ur imp data only) to ur pc then format ur sdcard
press thanks if i help you

It's nottt readable.

I have the same problem with my first CMW flashed: 6.0.1.2
I download and flash it with odin... the backups are even corrupted or simply not good...
I decide to flash (with odin too) another version (6.0.1.9) and then it works fine...
don't desperate... try to download (for me it's better with pc instead directly with the phone) another version of CWM or simply the same... it is possible do you have a corrupted file
reinstall it (with odin or terminal mode) and retry to do a backup
first of all as you can read above format the SDcard in a pc with FAT32 format and set "predefinite" the allocation unit size

i assume you have clockworkmod recovery flashed? rom manager did the same to me with froyo, i assume you know how to push a recovery from a command prompt? when you get the recovery error (After reboot) use the recovery-windows.bat command to push this recovery to your device and use that one to partition ur sd card
Thank's for the help but how do I do that? I haven't got a clue mate :/

right unpack the rar and copy to the root of your c drive, when rom manager reboots to partiton ur sd card and u get that error picture, connect your fone to ur pc, then open a command prompt as admin, type in the command prompt, cd c:/pushfiles_windows/pushfiles, then just type in recovery-windows.bat and your device shold show a recovery screen where u can partiton ur sd card
I get right to the end and get device not found :/
EDIT: Forget that did it in normal mode (not admin) and got it! Thanks

lol ok try this:
go here and download this recovery image - http://rapidshare.com/files/410520770/recovery-RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5.img
then go to www.unrevoked.com/recovery and download the recovery flasher, when you unpack the recovery flasher and that, look in one of the menu options at the top, one will let you choose a custom recovery, pick the .img u just downloaded and flash it, that one will let you partition ur sd card, if you dont like it you can always flash back

if you have apps2sd it will take a little time to load after you partiton your sd card, it only because the dalvik vm has to rebuild the dalvik cache on your sd card
If it's just partitioning you wanted to know about. Try partition magic live cd, works great for a fat 32 and ext 3/4, and swap partition.

Partitioning the SD, Changing the Recovery Image... I'm getting nowhere.

I've searched and read guide after guide and I'm getting absolutely nowhere. I have tried to partition using ADB, I have tried to partition using a new Recovery image but I can't even change it.
Am I the only person who is having this trouble?
Can anyone see where I am going wrong....
Phone was modified using unrevoked3 and has Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 on it.
I have downloaded the SDK for windows package and extracted it to C:\Android I then run CMD in administrator mode, go to the directory and type 'adb shell'... works fine so I then disconnect and then type 'adb shell reboot recovery' and I get 'reboot: no such tool'. I have also tried rebooting the phone into recovery mode myself but when I try to connect to it via 'adb shell' it tells me there is no device (It shows in the device manager just the same as it did before). Screeched to a halt there.
Next I thought I would change the recovery image to "RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5". According to the comments in the thread I can use unrevoked to install this image. I run the program select the image, plug the phone in and away it goes. After 10 mins of it saying "waiting on root, you can safely reboot" or something like that I gave up and took the battery out as nothing was happening.
Where am I going wrong here? I am only trying to get an EXT3 partition onto the phone so that I can put the apps on there and having it run faster.
This is a VERY brief runthrough of what I have done. I have been searching for about 10 hours in total, reading guide after guide and trying to follow them. I don't even get past the first couple of steps and there is an awful lot of wrong and old information out there.
Oh, as a side note. Is there any way to have the OS boot up in 10 seconds like Sense on the desire z?
Thanks for any help, I'm at my wits end.
if you r rooted download Rom manager from market and select partition SD card
secondly u can get fast boot if you flash the hd Rom in Android development section
'adb shell reboot recovery' written in only one line leads you to nowhere, you should open the shell with 'adb shell' and then issue the command 'reboot recovery' (never used that last one so I don't know if it works).
Appart from that you should do what is said in the above post, just download ROM Manager and partition your SD from there (you will need to go back to clockworkmod, but I think you don't need to do unrevoked again since you are already root)
Thanks a lot guys. Will give this a go tomorrow.
Sounds so simple too, can't believe the way I was going about it.
if you have a cd rw on your pc, just download the gparted live cd ....... its awsome
i'm also struggling with this...also followed the methods OP has posted and getting no where..dont want to use ROM manager because i want to have around 1/2GB space for partition...ROM manager only allows a maximum of 512mb
Worked flawlessly, I can't believe how much searching I done and the answer was so simple.
Off to see what I can do with it now

installed ubuntu on my USB how do i partition the sd card?
Woowww 157 pages lol. My head SERIOUSLY hurts.
I managed to get the fast boot thing to work by selecting "Hibernate" rather than "Power Off". Going by the desire Z demo, it can shutdown and restart in approx 10 seconds without going into hibernation (Can't remove battery/power).
Still, I'm going to have a play around with the HD firmware you liked to. It seems to be getting very good reports
Fingers crossed on the camera getting sorted out soon.
Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for responding. Everytime I choose recovery, it just brings me back to the white screen with hboot, bootloader, recovery, fast load, etc...
Is there something that I am not seeing? I tried downloading a rom on another SD card from a different EVO and then using that SD card to flash on my EVO...but still stuck on the the same white screen....
That is not what I meant. Go to the link below and download the PC36IMG.zip file for amon RA recovery v2.3 and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Afterwards, shut down your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text will scroll across the screen and then the bootloader *should* automatically detect the zip and prompt you to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, reboot into your new recovery and then go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it EXCEPT your SD card. After that, flash the rom you want to use. Be patient during the initial boot after flashing the rom.

It doesn't get any easier than the instructions posted in my previous post. All you have to do is download the file from the link I posted and put the file on the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader screen. The bootloader will basically do it for you. Anyway, I hope everything works out for you. If not, let us know and we will continue to try to assist. Take care.

Thanks...It sounds easy enough. The only thing I do not know how to do is put the file on the root of my SD card...Is that what ADB is for? Do I need to do anything special to install ADB? Sorry, just brand new to this.
Attach your device to your computer via USB, when your computer recognizes the device, you should see an additional disk drive showing in your computer's file explorer. If you have a Mac, a disk drive will appear on the desktop. Simply copy the file over to it. Do not put it in any folder. It is that simple, my friend.

Yea I can take over...also, have a safe move.
you could also take the sd card out of ur evo... and put it in a micro sd adapter and stick it right in ur computer, (thats if u have a card reader and a microsd adapter) but then u can put the file on the sd card that way, then stick it back in ur evo and bam, follow the instructions
Thanks again for your help...I'm a lot further than I was last night. I installed the htc drivers and still cannot see my SD card anywhere on my pc. I don't have a micro SD adapter.

System Restore / Fix booting loop

Sprint Logo repeating and repeating on you? Mine was too, here is a set of instructions that even a n00b like myself can follow to fix that. We'll simply be restoring the system software/ROM on your phone. There are other instructions listed, but don't include step-by-step instructions.
Keep in mind that this requires bubby's recovery, which is the ACS version. You can not mount USB on other recoveries (yet).
Boot into CWM
(Hold down Power and Up arrow until it appears)
Connect your phone to your computer with the data cable
Go to mounts and storage
Then mount sd card
Then do mount usb storage (second to last option)
and download the files linked inside this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272186
unzip it into a folder in the following location on the root of the phone's sd card:
/clockworkmod/backup/(any folder name)
so it would look like clockworkmod/backup/folder/ (files)
This is IMPORTANT, it must be in clockwordmod, then backup, then ANY folder name. If you leave the files in just "backup" it will give an error no files found.
Then do a wipe your data/factory reset
Then do a wipe cache
Then go to the backup and restore menu
and then the restore, will be whatever you named the folder that you unzipped the files to.
Let it finish, choose reboot and you should be good to go!
If you want to avoid losing your data in the future, follow these steps to make a full system backup as often as you'd like:
go back into cwm, goto the backup and restore menu again
then press backup
You can keep multiple backups
Again, I take no credit for this, just passing along the information. Hope this saves someone else's day!
All the credit goes to kse91holydiver, he helped me, now I'm trying to pass along the instructions to others who may be in the same spot.
Double post ? maybe
Also, you have to be on bubby's recovery, which is the ACS version. You can not mount USB on other recoveries yet.

You should put "For Noobs", or "Noob Friendly", or "Idiot Proof" in the thread title so people don't think you're double posting.....Bromigo.

Going to repost I resolve my own issue, there are two things I did to finally get my pc to see my phone so I'm not sure which resolved, First which is what I think solved it was be sure you don't have a drive like and dvd-rom drive or flash drive with a assigned letter of E: or F: if you do Google how to change it. And the second thing I did was reflash with zedomaxV3 and let it restart to the boot animation automatically then I unplugged and pulled battery and put battery back in and plugged usb back in and boot to animation again, then restart and mount in clockwork mod.
I hope this helps anyone else.
I made a nandroid backup in cmw v5, installed AE mod rom, didnt like it, booted, and I got cwm v4? ...and my restore/backup file no longer exists.
I cannot unzip the files to the phones folder: /clockworkmod/backup/folder/ (files) because I dont have a folder understand name at all.
This is my first time rooting, Iam still stuck with a looping SPrint loop boot screen.
Any suggestions?

Never mind, got it. : )
This saved my phone! I love you all!
OMG! Thank you so much! I had bricked my phone and this worked when other methods did not! It only took me 16 hours to research and try different methods. You are awesome! Back to factory so now I can hopefully find a good root and rom.

Recovery mode and file transfering

Hello.. I accidentally erased all data in both internal and external card. I can boot recovery mode. Is there a way to trasfer files from pc to the phone on recovery mode in order to trasnfer a rom to flash? When o connect it apperas adb interface, something like that but i cannot see the phone.
Wouldn't it be easier to just take memory card out and use a card reader to put a rom straight onto the memory card. Think that should work
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
ADB in recovery mode works fine for me.

If your using cwm. Make a folder on your sd card like this
Clockworkmod/backup/ then copy and paste your file in there.. reboot to recovery and choose restore from external. You may need to do a full wipe if its an older backup.
GT N7105 with XDA Premium......that is all......

Read through that. It's basically an interface for you to plug your phone via USB to your computer and pass commands to it (and read info). By running ADB logcat, you can then see what's going on in your phone, in real time.
Doing so, you should be able to find out (or at least paste here) what errors are occurring.
It's a sensible first step, before resorting to wiping or imaging.

I installed a rom by using odin and everything works ok. I will read about adb, it might come in useful sometime.. Thank you.
