[Q] Invisible apps? - HTC Wildfire S

Hey guys,
I have a MetroPCS-HTC-Wildfire-S-CDMA-A510c-PG763, it is rooted with S-OFF and unlocked.
I wanted to start messing around with Cyanogenmod and Clockworkmod and just wanted to start messing with stuff in general, but I've come across a few problems. With the help of you guys (and girls!) here, and on YouTube, I have worked most of those things out.
However, the time has come again for me to ask for help.
Not knowing any better, I wound up putting Clockwordmod Recovery 5.0.2.6 on my phone, and I have tried a few ROMS...99% didn't work.
What did work was the "marvelUSc_metroPCS_1-1_030712.zip" rom which I believe is fairly stock.
What did NOT work was:
MIUIv4-marvelc-2.8.10-deodex.zip
cm-10-20121220-NIGHTLY-wingray.zip
cm-9.1.0-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA9-marvelc.zip
cm-9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA7-marvelc.zip
cm-9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA6-marvelc.zip
cm-9.0.0-RC1-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA5-marvelc.zip
All of these came up with (mostly) the same error, which was :
"Installing update...
assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "marvelc" I I getprop ("ro.build.product") == "marvelc"
E: Error in /sdcard/cm-9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA7-marvelc.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted." ... or some such nonsense.
Basically the same error message, with all of the above ROMs. I believe I read somewhere that I might need to update my CWM anyway? Is THAT what is causing this?
How would I go about updating my Clockworkmod 5.0.2.6?
What is the latest release for CDMA Wildfire S A510c?
Link?
Is there another way to fix this?
I read somewhere something about Odin? Like its another ROM manager or something that would fix this?
See, it's not just the fact that I can't get these ROMs to work for me. As if THAT weren't enough, the one ROM that I mentioned earlier DOES work, sorta.
I would download a file manager from Google Play, I believe I downloaded Quickoffice as well as OI File Manager, as well as Astro File Manager.
Ok, I downloaded them, and, according to the same screen where you download them, after you download and install it, that screen then says installed"...know what I'm talking about? But when you go look in the apps, it isn't there. No idea if there in my phone or not, or if I even really DID download them.......or even where they would be......I have no way to manage files on my phone...unless...
Using Firefox or Internet Explorer on my PC, I can basically use THOSE as file managers, just type into the address bar something like C:\phone\xxx.txt and it comes up....can I do this with the browser in my phone? I wouldn't know what path to type. I tried \sdcard\ and it didn't work.
If anyone out there can help me with ANY of this, I would be greatly obliged.
Thanks in advance,
alphataxicab
ps. I do read the forums and try researching first, but many times, someone has the exact problem *I* do, but with a different phone, so...I'm afraid I might make my problems worse, lol.
By the way, other than what I described here, the phone itself seems to work, phone-call-wise.

OK I shall do my best to help first off I am unsure if standard gsm roms will work on a cdma device as they require different kernels for the radios. So you had best be sure that the roms you are trying to flash are definitely for the marvelc.
Edit: secondly are you sure that you have a marvelc recovery installed and not the standard marvel? As I think that would not flash a marvelc rom if it believes the device is a gsm phone.
Thirdly if you are having an issue with apps not appearing then look into your settings/apps and see if they are there. If they are not then they are not installed. But you can get a apk file of es plorer (I think that's its name) and use adb to push the app into the phone with adb push *apkname.apk > /data/app I believe. But best read up on that as I am unsure of that command.
Its good to see that people are doing there research before asking stuff, but unfortunately cdma devices tend to be left behind from a development perspective as they require different kernels and works to make them run, and finding a rom that can do both in one zip file is rare....
Edit: herehttp://cm9-wildfire-s.googlecode.com/files/PG76IMG-cwm-6.0.0.3-UNOFFICIAL-marvelc.zip is a download link to the most up to date cwm for the marvelc I could find with Google . Rename it to pj76img.zip and place it on the sdcard like you did to s-off. Then allow it to flash. Reboot when asked And battery pull when you get to the boot animation. Take the sdcard out, then boot to hboot, then select recovery, then re-insert the sdcard

Rooting the sprint EVO 4G

I wish I didn't have to come to this, but I have exhausted every other resource. I need help rooting my EVO. I had to use the new hack that uses a flash web app to root the phone. This was apparently successful, and in the terminal I have super user access. I even booted into fast boot and check the version to make sure I was rooted.
So my phone is rooted, and also cannot connect to 4G which I have not trouble shot yet, but I have heard that is common and there is a fix.
I installed ROM Manager, and it told me I should flash clockworkmod for a recovery drive. I click to install and then it tells me: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" I then clicked on "Fix Permissions" which then throws the same error as before. I am completely lost, and not sure what to do as of now.
If anyone could help that would be much appreciated. I can give you more details as to whats going on if you PM me,
or skype me: sanford787
Thanks in advance if anyone can help,
-Sanford
I really have to bump this....
Any chance anyone can offer some help? or possibly direct me to a place that could help?

[Q] Root help:"Main version older"

Hey ive been trying to root my evo all day it is on version 2.1-update1. I was able to root my brothers perfectly fine using the downloads and tutorial from the idiot-proof guide to rooting by thebiles. But on mine I get stuck right at the beginning, when i try to flash the PC36IMG my bootloader says main version older. I feel like ive tried everything if anyone can help I'd reallly appreciate it thanks.
Try simple root, and keep trying. I got that same error even with simple root on my buddies 3 times before it worked. Don't know why. Maybe try copying the pc36img to the sd card instead of letting simple root push it...gl!
I agree with the simple root approach. Not trying to highjack your post but I have a question back at you if I may. You say you have one root EVO and one not root? If so the the root has PRI 1.34 and the nonroot 1.40? Could you perhaps do a data speed comparison on these and post the results? I am real curious...
sorry man i saw your post like 2 minutes too late the simpleroot worked right before i refreshed this page thanks for the help though guys appreciate it
one more quick question while PC36IMG was flashing the 2nd "tp" file said bypassed next to it rather than OK like all the others and the first tp had a blank next to it...is this a problem i should look into before unlocking the nand and all that other good stuff?
No problem glad you got it working. This was kinda like going to the casino...getting up to go to the bathroom...coming back to see someone hit the jackpot on your machine....hahaha!!!
That is normal....mine did that.
thanks man appreciate it...one more question for anyone that can help, im using the idiot proof guide and im on step 56 but when i try to enter the adb shell i get an error from command prompt saying "error: more than one device and emulator" i entered the shell perfectly fine like 2 steps before that and used it to flash the new pc36img rom but now i get this error to enter shell again how do i fix this error?
Okay I came here thinking this might finally be it... but nope I tried all the solutions mentioned here but to no avail. I am frustrated and still getting the main version is older. Does anyone know what is causing this error. Please I'm using usb debugging I wiped and backed my SD and have ota that came out in June. I installed Microsoft net frame and htc drivers. I updated simple root and the update log said this was to fix the error but still getting the same error. Any suggestions
I have the same issue, pretty much have tried everything with no luck, kind bummed at the moment, hope someone can help
Thanks
I got to work FINALLY!!!!!
So finally i got the main version error older NO MORE. So i decided to share what i did in hopes that it will work for all of you frustrated out there.
1) Download simple root from xda forum, dont download it anywhere else. The first time i tried i downloaded it at another android forum and even though it may seem the same, this version for some reason was not pushing the files as it suppose to. So again download from forum. Search for it on XDA.
2) Be patient and prepare yourself.
3) Make sure you on the 147 ota version. Not froyo. or before any version before ota because you can use old simple root.
4) After you download it extract it to a folder. Choose whatever location suits you i like desktop so i can delete file after i use it and keep zip. Be sure to update the program. Open it and let it search for downlaod or go to root folder and search for the updater.
5) Before running the program check the obvious. Is usb debugging enable, Do i have microsoft netframe, Are my phone drivers correct. Is the usb cable correctly connected to my computer and phone. Did i choose charge only when connected to the computer.
6) Now on your phone, and this step did it for me, go to Settings>SDandPhoneStorage>FactoryDataReset. Brace yourself this will wipe data it will not change your version. But if you want do a backup the folder of your contacts and whatever you have in your SD card, this is the time to do so. Mount as disk drive, and remember to change back to CHARGE ONLY. I skipped this because rooting was more important than my girlfriends phone number.
7) Now youre noobiness is ready connect phone double check Step 5. In case you missed something.
8) Run the simple root downloaded from XDA forum. Wait for it to push files is wont take long but me patient. Think of it passing 180mb to sd card so it takes some time.
9) Phone will reboot in a screen with skating androids Push power button and WAIT. It will find file and you shouldnt be getting "main version older" reboot error you where getting if you paid close attention to detail. Now update push volume up.
10) Why so impatient wait for it to update files. Once its down just push volume up for reboot. First time it reboots after root or when u flash a rom it usually takes longer, enough to get u nervous but dont be WAIT.
11) Easy sailing now but youre not done yet. Hit recovery once your phone reboot. Choose the method you want i chose Clockwork it works just fine for flashing roms.
12) Congrats your fully root and can flash that cool rom youve been reading about. Suggestions: DamageControl or Cyanogen but go ahead and try whichever you like.
13) YOURE DONE WOOF
If for some reason, it happened to me with AvaFroyo, when you flash your rom it goes on a loop and keeps rebooting dont panic that is what the recovery is for just put your microSD on a card reader delete the rom that is giving you problem and place another one and Reflash. Read how to flash rom you have to wipe on Recovery menu everytime you flash a different rom.
I hope this helps...Its in plain english not Dev English so...

Back to stock, OTA update help

I rooted my Mytouch slide this afternoon and loaded another ROM which I decided I didn't like. So, I went back to stock, but its an earlier version than what I had before I rooted. There's are updates on this forum for the most recent OTA update. However, I get a signature error when I goto load it.
I boot into recovery by going holding Vol Down + power, the phone then reads the files on my SDCARD. After that, I go down and select "Recovery" and I goto the screen with the Red Triangle.
I then hit Vol up + Power and load the next screen, I select "Apply Update: update.zip" or whatever it says and I always get a signature error, I have tried the file form 3 different sources with the same result, surely someone has experienced this and can help me. Im using Simple Mobile so I dont think that I will get the OTA request so I need to find a way to get this OTA loaded unless there is a nandroid backup with these updates already in it.
Please help me, Ive read every possible thread on this site without any results.
Firstly you doin it wrong did you flash the eng build? if you are no longer rooted

I went back and went through the root process again, I can tell by the prompt that im rooted. I just cant get the updates applied to update my mytouch slide to the newest radio and system update. I get signature errors on both files. Surely someone on here has had a similar issue.
Any ideas?????
what is it that you want? are you using clockwork? and getting errors whn trying to get in to clockwork? if you havent flashed the ENG build you have to push ota.zip and update.zip EVERY TIME you try and get into clockwork

Im running the stock Tmobile Rom version 1.18.531.1.
I want to update the phone to 1.35.531 and make the sure the radio is updated to 7.09.35.10. Both the newest versions of stock.
I have downloaded the ~25MB update from here but I get a signature error everytime I try and run the update. To run it, Im booting with Vol Down + Power, then to "Recovery" and when the screen comes up with the Red Triangle, (Vol Up + Power). Then I select "Update.zip" but it fails on the signature verification.
Thats exactly what Im doing, am I missing something?

A little update
Ok,
I have a little update and Im hoping someone can put me on the right track from here. I flashed the stock ROM located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713507
My version is now up to 1.26.531.1 and my radio is still at 7.08.35.04S
When I put the full ~25MB update to 1.35.531 on my sdcard as update.zip I go into Recovery and select the update.zip. Now I get past the signature but it errors out with the following error:
"E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) and the installation aborts. Ive seen other people with similar errors but haven't seen a resolution. Any ideas?
Before you can apple the update file that is like 27mb you have to apply this FIRST http://db.androidspin.com/androidspin_developer_display.asp?developerid=63#280

Simple root(compared to joeykrim) for shw-m110s and galaxy cousins

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8406167&postcount=223
So this already has a home. But I'm seeing that it works, very likely in ALL galaxy S cousins, and in fact possibly even in all 2.1 and 2.2 android phones. This is NOT the joeykrim method but it's related (but simpler and better, and obvious to most of you devs). Sadly this slowly gets rediscovered somewhere about once every two weeks for the past couple of months . There's a thread in epic started a few days later with the same trick, and a thread on droid forums:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/re...08-multiple-phones-root-them-unroot-them.html
a couple of weeks earlier with the same trick. And a page on cyaongenmod where they show it for just one of the cousins.
It's nice for anyone who doesn't want to flash, and/or doesn't have a fully working recovery mode needed to use some of the one click methods (update.zip). Moreover... it probably works on pretty much EVERYTHING. The one clicks distract attention from the fundamental solutions because they don't always work on everything and new phones come out like popcorn.
Also I've included some useful related information about how to setup some of the popular initial root tools (with some personal bias, but not unlike a custom ROM), and how to undo it all. Making it a whole package custom ROM alternative (albeit a very lite alternative ). I haven't seen another post with all of this in one place.
I don't know where I should post this though because there is no general forum that I guess is likely to get read much that connects all the devices this may work on. But since it's working on more devices now and probably on froyo too, it seemed it might be helpful to someone to expose it a little beyond the shw-m110s sticky on issue 6. (even it has already been exposed before).
isnt this the same as superoneclick lag fix?
this didnt work for me on my i9000 froyo rom.
Ok.. well, does rageagainstthecage still work? Do you know? Did you try just that? the information "it didn't work" isn't very helpful. But then when you have one button you tend to get one response, and that's partly my point.
If you can get root with rageagainstthecage, the rest can all be worked out. And much more easily if more people in the community start to fear less the internals cause they're given information about what's going on, and it's VERY simple, as you can see in my post.. there's only ONE thing (properly installed su) you need to have root on ANY device. (getting root is a different issue, but the hard part is done) And there's no reason not to be explaining that in the BIG FAQ.
Indeed.. it looks like it probably is the same thing (but it's not really documented) . That did not exist when I first posted it.. hence why I worked it out myself. Personally I'm not a fan of one click anything, not as the primary reference at least. Because, ok.. it seems rageagainst the cage probably works on anything. A decent faq somewhere actually EXPLAINING what's required for root, and what rageagainstthe cage does (losely) and at least an example of how to use it on some device then is a good starting place for new phones.. new froyos.. good reference info.
However instead what happens is somebody else comes out with their latest method.. releases it as the mysupermagiconeclick method.. or even if it's script, without any explanation (and most people wouldn't understand, but maybe a few would). And then what happens?
Joeykrims script gets adopted on like 5 diferent devices where it isn't even needed(no offense to him.. he provided what he knew and got some people going who wouldn't have been otherwise). Multiple problems are created because of it. and that's not even a one click. That's a script for people who aren't too afraid to type script and still nobody noticed it wasn't needed?
Now a big one click comes out and someone just says "this doesn't work".
I see so many people saying "I don't know how to use adb" (even after you just told them "type adb push". It's very different that the winmo atmosphere a few years ago.
Anyway, I rageagainsthecage is the only alternative I know of to flashing or update.zip so it would be good if it got a little more attention I think and if people stopped treating the task of copying in 3 little files with permissions like some mystery work for "devs" to handle and folks to praise on high. I mean it's nice if someone can make a gui(and it takes work).. but it's amazing how hard it is often to just find an explanation of the very simple thing that's actually being done. (edit: even in Clshortfuses superoneclick thread.. he links to an older thread with the commands, but it's in page 49 or so.) There's like 5 commands needed with about 2 slight variations (nand unlocking and the setuserid joeykrim problem) that will root anything without flashing or destroying data, and that's not explained in a simple faq around here.)
By the way another reason it might not work is the rageagainsthecage exploit doesn't always (usually though) work the first try, and works better on some usb ports than others.

Then i tryed the SuperOneClick version.

and I found the same thing on some german site.
maybe /data/local/tmp doesn't exist on froyo for I9000. If anyone was playing with a prompt and had instructions that point out that you only to need to copy it to ANY place where you can write and execute, they might figure out what's going on in one minute, and find another place to copy it to like just /data/local or wherever tmp got moved to. In every case I've seen problems, it was never that the exploit didn't work.
Now ok.. it's possible that somehow they've figured out a way to completely block writing new executable files anywhere from a shell. In which case it would need to get installed through an apk maybe, but it's still possible. Applications do run, all the time; so can this. Knowledge is power... not one click buttons.
ok then ill give you a bit more detail.
you are right, i cant see why it is failing although i can see where it is failing. if i had access to the script to see the steps its trying to take i could work it out but its compiled into a binary as far as i am aware.
the script pushes the file to the device, and it runs for the first loop. it installs the su command and superuser.apk, then loops back to make further changes (i.e. it kills adb and reestablishes a connection). when it loops back it tries to mount something, and fails saying "failed to find mount point" or something similar.
the su command works in shell/terminal until the phone is rebooted, then it is lost. the superuser doesnt work at all (i.e. no superuser requests are generated by apps requiring it, they just fail saying root not available).

Great it sounds like you basically understand what is going on and aren't afraid of a tiny bit of typing. I think MANY people fit that description including myself a few weeks ago. But... the steps are not usually explained as you say. So... click the link in my first post again. It's all explained there. I've started a section there on exceptions.. including what I think might be going on with yours, but your description is a little different from the ones I copied in, so we don't know yet. So go at it, and good luck. I'll be glad to help if I can but my crusade is to get more people who want to to be able to play with it themselves (and to be able to ask questions too, though especially when getting new devices/roms rooted)
I assume you know about adb and and how to run it by hand in the first place. I don't describe that and there are faqs that do, including I think the Big FAQ. That obviously must work first.
P.S. I may add some linux/mac scripts shortly... piece of cake to do.. already did it for the joeykrim method. CLShortFuse is adding linux support but it involves 175 MB of cross-platform compatibality libraries and is at least almost as hard to setup as it is to just use adb. To each his own. It's a neat accomplishment if it works.
For me I push the unroot script to my phone and can unroot when I walk in a store if I want to. I like Rynza's apk for that, but it doesn't work with my phone (3 button, yes... update option, no )
too much verbage for me daddybear...
but anyway ill give it a shot next time i need to root my device and let you know if i come up with anything useful.
The first to admit to cracking the code . But you only get full credit if you know the reference too!
the su command works in shell/terminal until the phone is rebooted, then it is lost.

actually.. if this is really true.. it's almost certainly a joeykrim style problem. The other symptoms are harder to follow, especially depending if superuser never worked or only didn't work after reboot. Anyway, this will certainly get resolved in time I'm sure. If you had su working at all.. then it's just a matter of applying the right tweaks/work arounds (which are likely already known).

[Q] Mac OSX Slide Root Problems

Hello!
I am quite new to the forums as far as posting so don't kill me. I had rooted my previous slide before using one of the mac methods and I was happily running CM7. But a week or so ago my phone just stopped responding (buttons didn't work, unresponsive touch, even after going back to stock). So i sent the phone back to tmobile and got a new one. I am unfortunately having trouble rooting this slide with the Mac OSX methods posted. This is a new slide (opposed to the old one which didn't have a slash between the 0 on the keyboard) and many of the methods are for the old one. I have used almost every method there is out there and I have run into snags which are unfortunately unavoidable for me. Is there a set method on how to root and mount clockwork recovery for the new slide on the mac? or is it an existing one that would have to be modified, i.e. adding ./ before every command or something completely different?
Thanks!
Could you further explain the errors you're running into?
for one, i cannot get the phone to be discovered in recovery mode in the terminal using the loop.sh, it only shows it as offline. That is the big thing that is stopping me right now. i used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705695 method the first time and it worked flawlessly, however the link for the files are dead and I cant find them anywhere. also the new slide method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020 ), really doesn't give clear instruction on how to run clockwork

Here's a link to the latest Mac android sdk: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r10-mac_x86.zip
as for the Slide Root package, I couldn't tell you, since I don't know what the rooter initially had in the folder.
The new rooting method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020 , should work on mac OS just fine. The bit in the end about clockwork recovery is talking about s-off, which you don't need. But, without s-off, you cannot permanently flash clockwork, you would have to reboot into the stock recovery and manually flash clockwork update.zip unless you used rom manager to reboot into recovery.
In other words, following the steps on the New Root Method by nbetcher will work just fine for rooting your phone. If you don't feel comfortable yet working in areas of your phone that could potentially brick your phone if handled poorly, then don't bother with s-off and just use rom manager to reboot into clockwork recovery. It flashes it for you, so you don't have to manually go through the update.zip thing in the stock recovery.
I hope that helps, let me know if it wasn't explained clearly enough, I can try to better explain it.
Unfortunately for the guide you sent me, I type in the last command which is ./exploid and unfortunately it ultimately fails, for example it says i am supposed to see a # sign, but rather i get a $ sign. I have tried numerous times and it just keeps failing. I would of replied in that post but unfortunately i need 10 posts to do that
I have also used the non pc method which is listed in the n00b's faq, and when i come to the last step, I get a permission denied for misc

Does the ./exploid fail give you an error message? Or does it simply just fail? I don't have a mac, nor did I ever have to root my phone as it was given to me pre-rooted, so I can't be of much more help.
