[Q] Is it possible to backup my internal SD contents to external SD without a PC? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I cannot mount my internal phone storage to my PC. I've tried multiple PC's and after taking it to Sprint have determined that I need a phone replacement. I've created a Nandroid to my external SD card but want to be able to save the rest of the contents of the internal SD card. Is there any easy way to do this without a PC? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Move all folders from internal SD card to external SD card?
Upload them to dropbox? Get a dropbox account here - http://db.tt/yXLnHuOn

Yeah that's the only way I know but was thinking maybe someone on XDA knows an easier way. Uploading 4GB to Dropbox would take an eternity.

copy and paste

I’ve used AntTek to copy all my folder except "external_sd" which is your micro SD and copied into the "external_sd" folder. Create a folder in your external_sd folder called InternalSD and paste into there to keep files separated because there are similar folder in each as is Clockwork.

My Suggestion
First, download and install the free app, X-plore, from the market place and go to the configure/setup page and - only if rooted already - show hidden and give yourself root access, and then transfer files to external SD. Once done, set up a Box.com on from an iDevice - that way you get 10GB free versus the typically 5GB of everywhere else - and then download, install and register that account on your Android and then upload to via the program. If Wifi is too slow for you, look into Android Reverse Tethering. If done right, it shouldn't take you too long.
Or just grab a Class 1 64GB SDHC/SDXC - or whatever it is - and just back everything to it, and then use a program like Directory Bind or Lucky Patcher to bind those directories to the internal of the same device or whatever device you plan to move to, that way you never have to worry about transferring all that information back. Just a thought. :fingers-crossed:

You don't even need to download anything. You can copy and paste from internal to external with the regular stock my files app. Just make sure you go to settings and select site hidden files to get every file..

How to properly swap over to new SD card

Hey guys, about to purchase a 32GB SD card and was wondering what the process was. Do I connect both the phone and the SD card to my laptop and just pretty much drag the whole "Removable Disk" from my phone to the new SD card and just swap them? Or is there a more complicated process?
If ur old SD card is not partitioned then just make sure u can view hidden files and copy full contents straight over to the new card.

Can you explain that in a way that an idiot can understand it?
I will be replacing the stock 8GB SD card.

Greetings fmedina2,
That means that insure that what ever file manager your using (no one knows what OS your computer has), find the settings that allow you to decide what is shown within each directory - owner, permissions, date/time created, date/time modified, etc...
Just make sure that the "show hidden/system files" option is shown - extensions too, if it's available.
This will insure that you will not overlook any files, when you attempt to copy them over to your new sdcard.

Unable to read SD card

Just switched over from an Evo 3D and swapped my old 32gb sd card. Opening the native file manager, or Astro, or es file manager have all come up empty when exploring the sd card. Weird thing is that my pictures still show up in the gallery as well as all my music in the music app but not in any file managers.
Another strange issue is that I am unable to download anything from the browser, k don't know if this is related to the sd card so I am hoping to hear if anyone figured out how to get around this. Also, I am unable to mount USB dried when plugged into the computer. I appreciate any help you guys can provide.
Try exploring external_sd. SD is the phones storage and not the card you put in.
....
I am trying to get used to this as well! I think the folder named "sdcard" should ACTUALLY be the sdcard!

Does this mean done apps that utilize the sd card will have issues or even not work at all?
same question here...i have a sub dir called /sdcard/external_sd But if you want an app to use the SD card it will use /sdcard, not the external_sd...so is it a total waste to put a microsd card into this phone, since I will only be able to utilize the space if i manually copy **** to that directory????
If you move an app to the "SD card" in the manage applications it will move it to the actual SD card. It won't put it on the internal storage.

Internal/External SD Cards

Just got my GS2 today and I must say this is the easiest phone I have rooted to date! I have been working my way around the OS and found that apps are not seeing my files on my External SD Card. Is there a way to sort of sync these? I guess I dont mean sync, but have apps search both internal and external storage for files? Take beautiful widgets, I have a ton of images on the ex sd card. When I launch the app to apply one of those images it looks in phone storage and gives no option to search the ex sd card.
Thanks

easiest thing would to move everything to the internal sd card. i dont like how the phone sees SD card (internal) then from there i have to navigate to the folder called 'external sd' to look at my microSD files.

Exactly, but what good is it to have an external card if the apps dont use it? If I have to move everything to the internal card, what can I put on the external card and be able to use/access? None of my apps recognize the external card, lol.
i use my external sdcard for music & movie business and use the internal for everything else. i sync back & forth between pc & cell a lot so having a CLEAN (aka, none of those extra android folders) sdcard makes browsing and syncing much easier, cleaner, and organized. also, without that android bloat i can tell exactly how much goodies i have just by looking at the size of external sdcard
ps: external sdcard is more or less just a subdir on the internal sdcard.... its /sdcard/external_sd if i remember correctly.
i just slap my movie files onto thte internal sd since i delete them afterwards... didnt realize 16 gb is a lot of space lol
I removed some movies from the internal memory but when i go to storage, the available free space is the same as when the movies where there. I held the movie file down and selected delete when the pop up menu came up.
Any suggestions to clear the inetrnal memory or do i need to format the usb storage which will delete everything from internal memory?
Thanks,
Ian B

Transfer files to SD card

Hi all. Just got myself a SanDisk 64GB uhs1 memory card. Do any of you know how to transfer all my pics, vids, etc to the card? And how do I get everything to save to the card from now on instead of internal memory? Im stock rooted btw. Any help is greatly appreciated

To move vids and pics go to your my files app, select the files or folders amd move them to your sd card. Not sure how to automatically make them go there.

For pictures, go into settings when you are in the camera app, and tell it to save to your external microSD, should be apparent in the settings where this is set. Regarding moving the rest, I personally like using Root Explorer to move files around, especially when moving quite a few files. It's pretty self explanatory once you use it.
Now, to take this a step further, I use Titanium Backup Pro and have moved some of my larger programs off the internal memory and run them from my microSD card, to save even more space on the internal memory. Haven't had any problems running any of my games off the external microSD.
An even easier way to move files is to install the drivers for the phone from the samsung site, and simply do this in windows. One drive will be labeled "phone", the other will be labeled "card".
And make sure your 50 gb dropbox account is saving to your new microSD as well.
when you take a pic or open the camara ask you if you want to save youe pic on the sd card
and to move then just go to my file a select the file you want to move and move it to sd card

SD Card

I can see my 64g sd card and I can transfer files from it to my phone's internal memory and vice versa but when I download a file or back up my apps with titanium backup or back up my Rom it goes to my internal hard drive. I have rom manager and titanium back up set up for my sd card but it still goes to the internal memory.
Because of this my phone memory fills up and I get a message saying I'm running out out memory. I have a Samsung 64g sd card and its fat 32 formatted. Does any one know how I can fix this?

For Titanium Backup - go to preferences and make sure your backup directory is /storage/extSdCard/{whatever_directory_you want}
For Downloaded files - make sure whatever browser you use downloads by default to a folder within /storage/extSdCard/
Remember, /sdcard/ and /storage/sdcard0/ are both pointing to internal memory, NOT the memory card slot.

I have titanium backup set up to save to ExSd card, rom manager is set up to save to external memory but they both still save to the phone's internal memory. I use Google chrome and I went to setting but I don't see where it gives an option where to download to.
I also have k9 mail and I have it also set for sd card but it also saves to the phone memory. I guess what I'm saying is that it saves to the phone memory by default, what am I doing wrong
