Sightly strange WIFI issue - HTC One X

Good afternoon XDA HOX owners,
I'm having a really strange problem with getting on to my wifi AT HOME ONLY.
The phone sees the wifi, registers the strength of the signal, but loses connection all the time. it's the first time I've had this issue with a gadget, and this is the 4th smart phone that's been owned in my household, while using this particular wireless router. there's also 2 laptops, a NAS and an iPad (EEWwwww ) ... and my mates that have my wifi password get on without an issue...
If I turn the wifi on the phone off and on, it works for maybe ten seconds to a minute, and then drops connectivity, but not the signal. I know this because of the little 'up and down' connectivity arrows that run in the CM10 wifi indicator. they go either up, or down or nothing, but the signal is still there.
Any help would be massively appreciated as it's ruining my love for the awesome device the HOX is, especially running CM10.
Thanks :good:

Gonna bump this thread up because I'm home and it's driving me batty!

I had this issue with my homehub on the 'n' setting. Something just didnt work between the phone and hub. Try changing it to 'g' if its not that im at a loss. My.x would work everywhere else but home properly
Now works flawlessly
My nexus used to fly with the hub. Slightly irritated i had to lower performance purely for my phone. Its npt a massive difference but theres a reason theres a g and a n lol

Thanks mate.
So I've tried that and no luck. Virgin phone support says it must be a 'hardware issue with the phone'.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks

I'm having similar issues with my Wi-fi at home, tho my connection lasts longer, sometimes 10 mins, sometimes 5 hours+ sometimes all day. The strange part is that when i use wi-fi on the phone alot like some sort of heavy stuff youtube, downloading etc. then my connection drops. I've tried using only N connection and BGN Mixed on 20 and 40HZ channel and N seams to give me the best results, never tried B and G connections since i think those reduce the range of your WI-FI , too bad i didn't go for A B G N router. Anyway could be up to my router or something, every device that uses my WI-FI has same issues with this router. I even took it to the repair center they've done some ping tests and showen me that router works perfect. anyway back home still does those buggy things. If anyone has any good idea please feel free to suggest us.

I'm also having an issue with mine, although slightly different.
My phone connects to available wireless with no problem and stays connected however when I leave that location it stays connected instead of switching back to mobile data. I have to turn off wireless and then turn it back on to get it to switch to mobile data.
Kinda a pain in the arse and really annoying. I've missed allot of important emails since I got this phone due to me forgetting to turn wifi off everytime I leave somewhere with wifi.
None of my previous smart phones had this issue. I'm hoping that if I get custom rom on it, it will work properly,

[WIFI] Browsing works, market etc doesn't

Hello everyone,
My phone is doing good so far, i have some of the known bugs, but i'm very satisfied!!
But.... when i'm connected with wifi at home or at my gf's home (different locations, different hardware) I can use my browser but I can't use Market, Zedge etc. I'm a system administrator, so I already checked everything network-related that could cause the problem(Encryption, channel, toggle between g/n, ports). My HD2 doesnt have any problems.
Is there something changed on the HOX in how it handles a wifi connection?
Like to hear your ideas and suggestions!!

Mine is currently connected via wifi, and was also connected using the Mobile Network, and have had no market/email/browsing issues on any of those. Have you done any modifications on it? Are there any port lockdowns on those wifi signals you've been using?

The phone is still out-of-the-box. I only installed whatsapp and a few apps but nothing big.
I tried it with no security at all, port 5228 UDP/TCP are open, tried a different router.. no luck so far!
No such problems here.

I have the same problem with all Android devices. Enable the Data and connect to Market once (Accept the terms and conditions). Once Market authenticates then it should work with WiFi. I have spend hours trying to find out the cause but no luck. I tried to DMZ the router to make sure there is no Port being blocked. In case you find out let me know how you fixed it.
just make sure the date and time is ok
Posted the following in another thread but thought it would be worth posting in here:
Might sound strange, but try rebooting the router. I was having problems with my One X, almost the same issue as you. My HTC Sensation would be fine and my Galaxy S and my laptop also fine, but my One X would have terrible WiFi performance, even tried deleting the wifi settings and re-connecting, and also a factory reset, to no avail. At this point i was ready to take it back as I thought it was faulty.
As a last desperate attempt i rebooted the router (unplugged it for 10 seconds then plugged it back in), and my One X has been perfect ever since. Doesn't quite make sense why one device but not others would have a problem, but worked for me anyway!
I've actually had a similar issue, in that TuneIn kept refusing to stream, even after restarting the phone. Power-cycling the router fixed it, although other devices on the same network were having no problems.
Ok, Im starting to think this phone is killing my WiFi network.. having ip issues with all my laptops now everything is set to static now so lets wait and see..

Haha 9/10 times rebooting helps, but this is something different ^^
Kind of having the same issue here. Please let me know if you find any solution.

Wifi dropouts

Is anyone else having sporadic issues with wifi on the One X?
I have two One X's, both running T-mob rom 1.26.110.5.
Wifi will work fine for some hours, then problems start. I usually notice this when returning to the browser - where the progress bar sticks at about 10% and goes no further in downloading a page.
This can happen to either of my One X's. At the same time, my other One X and both of my HTC Desires will continue to operate perfectly on Wifi. This situation can continue for quite some time, and usually I have to cycle the wifi power on the offending phone, whereupon that phone will connect fine again.
The good connection has lasted anywhere between 2 minutes to several hours.
This is intensely frustrating. When I got both phones home new the other day, I set one phone up first, and later in the evening first experienced this wifi problem. Thinking the phone had a fault, I continued and set up the second phone. But that also exhibited the same fault.
Note that all the time this is happening, I have 2 laptops, 3 other phones (included the other One X), and a media streamer, all connecting just fine to my same wifi access point. I doubt the access point is at fault - it has worked for years with the other equipment without issue.
Only the two One X's have intermittent problems connecting to it, and then not both at the same time.
So does anyone else experience this?

same problem here, the solution until an update, is to take out the pasword from router, leave the wifi network without password

Are you serious? WiFi without password is an absolutely NoGo. I contacted today hTc with this problem. They said they know this problem, many users have reported it. They said to me I should let exchange my phone by my provider. That was not the the answer that I wanted to hear, but I hope they can fix it with a patch and it's not an hardware issue. But if you say deactivating the wifi password can temporaly fix this problem, it should be possible to fix it with an software patch.
I was having wifi problems as well and had lots of other devices which connected just fine. I reset the router and it seems to be going well...
Couldn't try it on another router to see if the router was the problem or it was the phone.
Otherwise love my new one x!!! YAYYY!
Got the same Problem. I just signed the device a fixed ip in the Router config and have no Problem since...
Maybe u should try some like that.
I have noticed WiFi drop outs. Have assigned a static ip, testing to see if it makes a difference

Mod or Die
Mine was showing the loop on connecting, authenticating, obtaining ip. That is a common problem in Android (and nowhere else), but I worked around it by connecting to a different router, then re-connecting to my own router. (In addition to all the other rebooting router, rebooting phone, rebooting refrigerator suggestions). Yup, static IP too. Still would get the problem.
Tracked it thru alogcat and can see the exact point of failure, but still cant fix it.
BUT IT GETS WORSE: My phone stopped scanning. It can't find ANY routers.
If you manually enter a hotspot it shows as not in range.
Mine is getting a little better with static ip and improved wifi performance ticked, but the issue is still here.

UPDATE:
Rebooting the phone didn't help. (It would still not scan for routers)
In Power Settings, there is a checkbox called FAST BOOT.
It came from the factory checked.
I unchecked it and now wifi scanning works again.
I still get the connecting, authenticating, obtaining IP Loop, on some routers. Rebooting the router will solve that as a temporary fix.
There is also a setting called Best Wifi Performance, which some suggest keeps the wifi chip from entering a deep sleep mode, making wake up faster. I checked that too.
Still not happy with the wifi problems. (no, its not my router, 7 other android devices connect to it just fine. Laptops and printers also).

Thats exactly what I found out too. Therefore it would be necessary to give the One X a own IP but in its own config. Not only on the router.
Do you know if this cn be done?

Hey all,
recently i've been having some issues with the wifi on my kindle fire. when i put it to sleep and put it back on, the wifi will show as connected but nothing will load until i switch wifi off and back on again. i have wifi sleep policy set as "never switch off"
also sometimes the wifi will randomly disconnect from the router, although i'm well within range. when this happens, i can't reconnect unless i switch the wifi off and back on again. i'm using cm7 hellfire, any suggestions?

Which rom?
When I am at home (netgear WNR3500v2 with DD-WRT) I have no issues.
When I goto work (AeroHive Enterprise access points) I run into the exact issues you describe.
I ran into this with the stock rom and all roms I install. ICS with Kernel 3.0 has this issue, but it is less common. With everything but a 3.0 kernel, I can use the wireless for seconds before it dies.
Googling the issue I found that it is pretty common for any android system when connecting to a corporate wireless access point.

I'm experiencing same problems with stock and CM7 Barebones 9-2-2012.
Searched a lot, and beside nonsense advices for routers resetting (how can I reset the router at public hot-spot?) given to the users of PORTABLE device that Amazon customer service is pushing trying to hide their own problems, I found only two explanations that are reasonable and reported to improve things:
1. One reported that deleting/forgeting all remembered networks in Kindle's WiFi settings and creating new connection that is used later on makes problem-free connection. Please do not blame me during entering SSID and passwords all the time. Blame Amazon. As far as I remember, when I unpacked my Kindle I had WiFi connection without problem at my home. Problems started when I connected it first time in my office. Intermittent disconnects continued at my home also. Searches show that a lot of people had problem-free period of using Kindle's WiFi. Makes sense, but I will do deleting/forgeting only under gun pinpoint. Or when I decide not to move my Kindle around.
2. Other reported that making Access point to use g-only bandwidth instead of mixed mode improves things. You can do it at your home, maybe in your office and sure not at public hot-spots. I did it at one place, I will do it in another, looks promising on first try. Do not blame me if you have now trouble free Kindle WiFi only at your home, maybe at your office and frustrating internet access in public areas. Blame Amazon.
3. My way. Installed WiFi Fixer and saved frustration to slide up, WiFi off, WiFi on procedure, back. Doing that automatically. Magic. Anyhow, there are moments when it is doing his job, so You get no connection reports from browsers or other apps that need internet connection. You already know about blaming....
Waiting for daily use kernel 3.0 and ICS, I believe that developers here will not let us down. Long live XDA-developers community!

Wi-Fi Issue

I have an issue where my Wi-Fi will stay connected but lose communication (icons are grey). Now the odd part is that this only really happens with my home wireless router (its a wireless N router). When I go back to my parents for a weekend or something (i.e this past weekend was thanksgiving) and use their wireless (wireless G) my phone stays connected AND the data stays working the entire time. A good example is that if I'm at home connect to my wireless network and I go to bed my phone will lose internet at some point during the night (sometimes it can lose it after just a few minutes) so when I wake up in the morning and turn my screen on (which always causes the Wi-Fi to communicate again) I will get a bunch of emails/whatsapps, etc. At my parents place I go to bed and the emails/messages are received right when they are sent and I will hear them (if my phone is not on silent).
The sleeping part isnt that big of an issue but I use my phone for work connected to an exchange server and it will quite often either sit in my pocket for long periods or sit on my coffee table at home without being used. Its frustrating when I think its a slow day and all is well then I turn on the screen of my phone and emails come flooding in

Oh sorry, I should have specified. This is the case with almost any ROM (stock or not) that I use. I suspect its an issue with the wireless settings in my router though I'm not sure which ones it could be. I've been playing around with it a bit lately to see if anything helps but so far no success. I have another wireless N router sitting around that I may throw in to try out as a test but just thought I'd see if anyone else has this issue at all as it would affect anything that uses data (whatsapp, etc.)
I imagine it definitely has to do with either your router (some just don't work well), connection, or some router setting.
Try toggling 'Avoid Poor Connections' off.
Settings > WiFi > Advanced.
If you have an extra router a highly recommend trying it out and seeing what happens. I have owned several routers that simply refused to work well with specific gadgets, but other gadgets functioned tremendously well.

I have the same problem, or eventi worse.
Yesterday i was using my phone connected to my university wifi and even if i was using Tapatalk and the screen was on it didn't receive whatsapp messages. Only when i came home and I've go back to mobile data i received them.
I dont want to jinx it or speak too soon but it seems so far that simply changing the preamble length from Long (default on my home router) to short has made things much better. Last night my phone continued working throughout the night (its happened before so I'm not calling it solved yet). I also notice my phone has rarely been losing connection over the last 2 days as well.
Hopefully thats got it!

Sudden WiFi problem.

Please help.
Suddenly I have weird WiFi problem where, for instance, it won't even connect to my home WiFi. Sometimes it is saying 'Saved' sometimes 'Obtaining IP address' and sometimes 'Connecting'. When I finally get connection, sometimes it just disconnects for no reason (well, there have to be a reason), and again wouldn't connect. For instance, while I am writing this it is Obtaining IP address the whole time.
I couldn't find the pattern in these problems, but someone might be able to help.
Tried resetting modem, phone, clear cashe...
I didn't notice that my MacBook have any issues, nor my LG TV. It works fine there. I'm on 7.1.2.
Hope someone can help.
Cheers.

The 5X's wifi sucks. I travel with my Note 4 also since that always connects to available networks, like at hotels or at airports. The 5X will often just do what yours did. I have access to Time Warner hotspots since I have their internet service. But it almost never connects and when it does it usually takes many attempts. My Note 4 would connect so easily that it would connect when I was stopped at red lights or even stop signs. The 5X takes lots of messing around. Adding and forgetting the network. Turning wifi off and back on, etc.
I have the Time Warner app to assist in connecting and that helps. I thought that app interfered with the wifi, so I remove it when travelling, but found it makes no difference.
I did find that Skype Wifi, which allows someone to connect to hotspots around the world and pay using Skype credit, did interfere with the wifi like your apps did. So some hotpots would work without it installed, but wouldn't with it installed. I took it off, but of course I can have in on my Note 4 and have no problems with any wifi hotpots.
I would agree that the 5X wifi sucks. I have issues on my home wifi as well & know it's not the network. My older Nexus 5 connects & stays connected fine. and the 5X will be setting right next to it & be 'obtaining IP" or say "No Internet" -- anyone have any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Enjoying the phone - but not this issue.
I've been having wifi problems since I got mine months ago, my internet connects for 0.5 of a second then disconnects even if I stand beside my router

I had forgotten about an issue with my router, but it affected the router. The 5Gz signal would just disappear after about a day, which would require rebooting the router to restore. I went on vacation and the router made it 3 weeks without needing to be rebooted. So obviously it was the 5X causing the issue. The router manufacturer was going to RMA it, but one of their engineers sent me a beta version of the firmware that ended up fixing the issue, but I can not use any official firmware release. My 5X now, if I put it on the 5Gz signal, will just stay for a while, then I'll look at the phone and it'll have switched to the 2.4Gz signal. So I just let it stay on that. At least the router signal doesn't completely disappear anymore, but the core issue with the 5X is still there.
One of the steps in trying to fix wifi problems used to be setting it to 2.4Gz networks only. 7.0 or some version of the OS took away that option. Someone in the Google forums requested it be put back in, but it doesn't look that that will happen.
It's the phones connectivity it's messed up, and u are able to get it replaced if u got warrienty
I did a factory reset and it does not resolve the issue as I have been having issues for the past month or two. i think its one of the updates that borked it up; but until i roll back idk
If anyone can make your 2.4 band a G type or mixed mode router and leave your ac band alone. I noticed that leaving the connection to G type keeps the connection solid for me and drops go away. I know this is not a solution but until this can be resolved. This didnt happen before and for the like of me it is IMPOSSIBLE to flash older firmware and system images on the POS device. It get stuck on the Google logo.
There was a post awhile ago in a different phone thread for HTC ( yes, i know its not the same ) but there apparently appears to be WiFi 'drivers' or 'radios' if you will and the solution was easy there, but here I think someone with some experience might have to point those out to us. ( its on this page https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...tock-m-firmware-nand-recovery-t3330972/page32 )
I am wondering if using a set of WiFi drivers from 7.1.1 would resolve this issue or not, but I am unsure where to go to find them; anyone?
