Honestly..... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Why does Google do such weird things all the time? I know other people have to think the same thing about why they design an OS the way they do. For instance clicking the clock in the status bar takes u to time settings instead of clock or calendar(when we all have auto time enabled)? And I'm pretty sure(at least I hope) its a bug, but the stupid new camera rotation is beyond dumb. And why they took the so much fun camera effects out, I may never know... I do love Google but just question their Dev team sometimes... sometimes a lot
But that is why we have these wonderful devs across the forums. I can't thank you guys/gals enough!!!!

LOL Maybe he means alarm settings which is inside clock app
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

The slow camera rotation is intentional. The Android Dev team spoke about it. As for camera effects, I don't know how many people actually used them. Sure, Mac users seem to use them quite a bit, but I don't know about Android users.

Yea I meant alarms.. Lol. Or even clock app would be smart
Why on EARTH would u want camera lag when changing the phone orientation... Then u end up missing Ur shot!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

The rotation lag doesn't bug me too much. It usually takes a second or less to rotate. I usually know what orientation I want my picture to be, so I'll press the camera app in that orientation.

Just lock rotation when you want to use your camera, if you are using a rom with toggle rotation it wont be that hard to press a toggle.
I personally always disabled rotation, and only enabled it when i want to use it.

Another thing that bothers me is app drawer. the black background is still stuck in the Gingerbread era.

If I lock rotation to to a pic in landscape its going to take the picture in portrait but I guess u could just rotate it in the gallery... But still useless as fuhk. I'd rather deal with the lag of swiping to my pictures than the actual camera itself... Come one Google... You're better than this... Back to 4.1 camera I am

IMO the black background is nice to quickly identify icons. U know u can always use third party launchers to change that..

lockscreen

i was wondering if there was any way where you dont have to choose a separate lockscreen wallpaper than homescreen one.
im currently on stock and would like to stay on it.. not a huge fan of go locker... i just wondered if there was any other way to get the same wallpaper for both without having to set it twice... slight OCD issue lol ( i swear there was a way around it on the galaxy s 2)
Use Quickpic
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Just set the wallpaper twice.
If it still keeps you up at night, a shrink will be more useful than a dev to fix the problem.
Oh forgot about that on stock
I thought there was an option in the lockscreen wallpaper to set it as homescreen one?
Sent from the cracked screen of my GALAXY Ace.
go to settings, then display, then wallpaper. select lockscreen and choose none. then your lockscreen paper will be the same as your desktop paper. when you change your desktop paper, lockscreen will match. hope this helps
No option to set same as homescreen one, maybe its because im on the i version :-/ mehh shall probably end up rooting it soon, never takes me too long before i do.. Cm7 possibly

there is NO setting to set the same pic for lockscreen and homescreen. all you need to do is select none for your lockscreen in the settings location I told you to go to. simple as that....
No thats what im saying i dont have the option to do.. It literally says wallpaper gallery or gallery.. Trust me if it said none then i would have clicked it straight away.. I just didnt know if there was another way around it but it sounds like not

Wallpaper issues

Is there a fix for this? Im on gb el29 and whenever i do the ics upgrade or jb the wallpaper can no longer go the long way except for the long way. Is there a mod or something that i can do because i like having the full picture instead of the cutoff pixel look to it...it just looks terrible. Thanks in advance.

You're taking about landscape and wallpaper scrolling? That was removed a while ago because Apple claimed it was infringing a patent or some BS.

I know what your talking about but im talking if you have a long picture, you would be able to do it the veritcal way and it would show the full picture. Now on ics it is forced to do the box look and you would on be able to see half of it and its all blown up and everything. Not a huge issue just annoying haha

Switch to a different launcher. GO Launcher EX and Apex both support the vertical wallpaper option.
You can also use Image 2 Wallpaper app from the market. It's a little difficult to use imo just because of the UI but it does the job.

Curious

What do you think will be the next update for the GNII to improve it to be more like a tablet? Any ideas?
Swyped by Me & My GNII
I was wondering the same thing, but to be totally honest with you, it's already like too perfect. I really don't know anything else that can be done to it to make it any better except maybe, being able to use the voice feature on it without being connected to the Internet? Just my 2 cents.

Being able to designate which apps are by default started in full-phone or full-tablet UI mode would be great.

I really doubt they will enable tablet mode, they have tablets for that. That and for most people the screen is still to small from the tablet UI. heck even the Nexus 7 runs the same UI as the Note 2 does

I don't know, I think the whole phablet thing had many hesitant about this phone. I sincerely hope you're right though. I love CM10, PA, and other similar ROMS but they take so much time to get fully functional. I just hope there is Dev out there who will jump in and take it on for our Sprint variant.
the note II is anything but perfect. I have a lot of "gripes" with it.
first 320dpi. seriously? is that a joke I could not root it fast enough to get it going at 240dpi. Ahhh so much better
burst mode is borked. the huge delay built into the implimentation on the Note II renders is useless. as a temp fix use best shot its instant but only 8 shots.
on my S3 I can assign my favorite upload method (imgur for pictures youtube for video) as defaults. just tap the imgur or youtube icon and its going
this is GONE in the NOTE II I have to tap share and scroll to my selections EVERY TIME. very annoying once you got used to the S3 way.
toggles are gone. so I can't turn off mobile data etc.. on the Note II easily from the pull down like I can on the S3.

Lockscreen Notifications

Hey I found his nice app for displaying missed called, email and text message notifications on the lock screen somewhat like the iphone. It's setup as a live wall paper to show notifications in the background, that way you don't need to change our your original lockscreen.

Trying to figure out how to make the widget show on the main screen (under the clock) like in your image. Can't see a setting that does it... anyone else figure that out?

That's a screenshot of WidgetLocker, not the stock lockscreen.

I would like the option of disabling Lockscreen Widgets completely

How do the rest of you feel? I can see why they can be useful to people but to me they are too much trouble, even if the slowdowns and security issues get fixed.
You really have lots of stuff to complain about.
Anyways I find the widgets very useful. Glad they added them finally.
What security issues do you encounter? Besides someone reading part of a text message or email?

They also can help prevent accidental pocket-dials (or whatever else). As it takes a bit more effort to drag to a target, opposed to just tapping on a direct dial shortcut on your home screen.

Solution: Don't use the message/email widget on lock screen.
Seriously, it's one thing to complain about issues that affect the performance of a phone and how it's used and another to complain about completely trivial matters that are purely personal taste. Your complaints seem to be the latter.
You don't have to use the lock screen widgets. Sure, you'll get the screen edge reminders that there are pages on either side(for about a second), but they fade away.
I personally don't care for the lock screen widgets. I usually forget they're there. Would I want them completely removed? Nah, Google might have something in mind for them later down the road.

There's no reason not to disable them completely except your issues with me complaining. Get over your bias and see that this OS should be about having lots of options. If we don't want to use lockscreen widgets, we should be allowed to disable them entirely, simply because we don't need them enabled if we don't use them at all to begin with.
What we need is a single widget with clock weather missed calls etc. It should be here soon. If not then use widgetlocker or a ROM with 4.1 style lockscreen. This is android device there are always going to be options.

Unless you do what certain people say and keep Android as a base with very few or no options and having to depend on 3rd party developers to give you something else to do with your phone.
Android shouldn't follow this iPhone model when doing things. It should have plenty of built-in options as well as 3rd party options, not a lack of the former.
