[Q] Damaged USB Storage OTG device - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 128gb USB stick - pre-formatted as FAT32 - which works fine in any PC. However when plugged into the Note II via OTG cable, it comes up as 'damaged USB storage' & I can't access it.
I have seen reference to a workaround on other devices so that devices can correctly recognise the storage. Has anyone managed to find a fix on the Note II?

[Q]GN is not supported by OTG connection USB flash drive

Why I use OTG after you connect the USB flash drive, USB disk could not be found in the phone directory?
USB Host (or USB OTG, On The GO) is a documented feature in the manual but it does not appear to work. Someone figured out how to eneable it if you are rooted but I can't find the thread.
USB Host is working with stock 4.0.2. However, this is only for things such as mice and keyboards. If you want to access USB storage, root your device and install Stickmount from the market.
I can confirm that my GN GSM with the stock 4.0.1 rom doesn't recognize my keyboard and mouse using an OTG USB cable. A bluetooth keyboard does work however.
you need a true OTG cable, root and stickroot from the market. Also sometimes a custom rom, but usually not.
This is my setup and i've tested a usb microsd reader, 4 and 8gb flash drives, 2 mice and a usb keyboard.
Like I said, USB host was enabled by Google in 4.0.2. If you have an earlier firmware version, it won't work without a custom kernel.
Google did not however provide the ability to access USB mass storage. To do this you'll have to root your Nexus and install Stickmount.

[Q] Cannot mount SD Card via USB OTG and stickmount (root) - works on Galaxy S2

Hi,
I recently bought a USB OTG cable and an "Integral USB 2.0 Single Slot SD Reader " so that I could use my Nexus 7 to view photos from my camera.
At first I tried using Nexus Media Importer to view files on the device, but this did not work. I have successfully been able to use this application to mount a USB thumb drive via the USB OTG cable.
I then rooted the device and installed stickmount. This did not seem to work either and there were no signs that the device was recognised by the tablet (the red light did not come on). I configured stickmount in SuperSU so that it has root access. I did not copy any data or apps back onto the device after unlocking it, and I am using the stock android 4.4.2 ROM.
I tried mounting the SD card using the card reader and USB OTG cable with my Galaxy S2 running Cyanogenmod. This mounted as soon as I plugged it in so I doubt there is a problem with any of the components.
I have tried mounting the drive both with USB debugging enabled and disabled. Is there anything else that I can try?
Thanks,
Ciaran
Reboot your device while keeping the OTG cable connected.

Thanks, this does allow the drive to mount successfully; however, if I remove the drive then re-insert it it does not remount, nor does it show up in Stickmount. Is there a way to remount the drive on-demand - just like my Galaxy S2?
You can press the 'thanks' button if it helped. Till now, I have not come across any such method to mount the OTG cable on demand. It's a cheap ploy by Google and Asus that they do not allow native OTG support on the Nexus 7 2013. Just to promote the cloud services. Mounting OTG cable is so easy on the Moto G and Samsung devices. It's a given these days.

It's gotta be the connections your using. Either the Integral SD Card Reader, or the OTG cable you are using. I never have any issues using stickmount with my Meenova MicroSD card reader. Have you tried other adapters?

^This, stickmount mounts my meenova as well as my OTG+USB thumbdrives on demand, no issues whatsoever, no need to reboot or anything, it just automounts and it's ready to go.

Does this tab support OTG on stock?

I plugged in an OTG cable and USB stick. The tab said USB storage was found but in fact it did not see the USB stick nor what was on it. So, no OTG support for the stock ROM?
OTG works!
Seemingly your stick uses unsupported format.
Thanks

HTC One M9 Android 6.0 USB OTG question

Per HTC support, the HTC One M9 has USB OTG features "suppressed". Is there any relatively easy way to get this phone to recognize and support a USB connected device via OTG cable (external hard drive, Flash Drive, Card Reader, etc.).
I have the Developer Options turned on and have also changed the USB setting in those options to MTP (it does seem to revert back to Charge Only periodically). I have also tried turning USB debugging on and off. Every device i've tried works just fine on other Android 6.0 devices (Samsung Tablet, friend's Samsung phone, etc.) and even on my wife's 3 yr old HTC phone, all without issues.
For the record, I'm just a newbie. I simply want to be able to move files to USB connected external storage and use a card reader to view pictures, etc.
I have ES File Explorer loaded. When I plug in a USB card reader or flashdrive it pops up ES File Explorer but then fails to open the USB drive. Also, under Storage - the USB device is never listed when plugged in.
Any guidance would be appreciated. It ticks me off that something so simple is not easily plug and play on this phone.
Thanks,
Scott
That's weird. I'm on 6.0 but I've got otg working fine with my SanDisk USB 3.0 otg drive and my portable hdd with a otg cable and I can transfer files just fine.

OTG support foe Flash Drive after updated to Android 10 and One UI 2 on Note 10+

After updated my Note10+ (Exynos) to Android 10 and One UI 2.0, I found one serious problem:
Problem: When I inserted Samsung USB-C to USB-A adapter to the phone, then attach a USB drive (which work fine on the same phone when running Android 9, and the device was checked to make sure its functioning), Note10+ fail to auto-mount the USB drive. There are no response, and Samsung My Files app do not recognize the USB drive
Workaround: To make it work, I have to install Sandisk Memory Zone app from Google Play. after that, when I inserted the USB drive, Sandisk app detect the drive and I can transfer file using Sandisk app as usual. However, Samsung stock My Files app still do not show the USB drive as it should be
Another work around is to mount the USB drive with Paragon NTFS eFAT/NTFS for Android, then browse or transfer file with Total COmmander file manager. Still, Samsung My Files app do not show the mounted USB drive at all
I think there must be a bug with Samsung firmware or My Files aapp that need to be fixed. I have reported this to Samsung Support staff over the live chat
Any friend experience the same problem? Or it is just me?
I have always had issues with the native file managers from samsung, exactly Those you are here posting, I use xplore, I first used it from my Symbian days, when migrated to android samsung devices, it was natural for me to use xplore, zero problems, and it is really straight forward to use and much more flexible
After testing many times, more workaround solution is here. It is repeatable
1. If I restart Note10+ without USB drive attached, and then insert USB drive via Samsung USB-C to USB-A adapter (it came with Note 9), the USB drive will not be detected
2. To get USB drive detected and work, I have to insert the USB drive, then reboot. After reboot completed, Note10+ will detect the USB drive, and the drive will show up in Samsung stock My Files app. Manage files can be done. When I inserted and reinsert the USB drive, it will still work fine.
2. But if I start Sandisk Memory Zone app, it will detect USB drive, and file management can be done via Sandisk app built it file manager. But in this case, Samsung stock My files app will stop detecting the USB drive until reboot with USB drive inserted
Before upgraded to Android 10, Note10+ running Android 9 will hot swap and always detect the USB drive. Also, Samsung stock My files app and Sandisk Memory Zone will work without problem simultaneously
I think this is a bug that need to be fixed by either Samsung or Google

Native USB support seems to be working fine on my N975U from T-Mobile(USA).
Both using a native type-c flash drive and also using the adapter that came with the phone.
