(Request) - NFC w/ screen off - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was wondering if anyone could please port this mod to GNII w/o breaking Google wallet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709586
Having to turn the screen on everytime one uses NFC is quite the pain.

wouldn't that be some form of risk to your phone?

Sure it would be a risk but one I might be willing to take due to convenience factor. Yes, it's simple enough to just turn on the power and unlock the phone but sometimes when driving, I don't have the ability to safely power on the screen and then go through the motions of unlocking. It's not for everyone for sure but I am sure that there is a niche market that would love to have it.

Anyone get this working:

I tried but it didn't work for me on Jedi 6.1
I would be even be happy with just the lockscreen mod.

Yeah that is true, although you don't have go through any motions if you don't want to, there's always the option to select "None" in the Lock Screen settings so you just press the power button and no Lock Screen shows up at all.
As far as allowing nfc goes I think what would be a better option is unlocking with voice, but so far I personally have yet to see that, that would be better and a nifty feature imo.

Right now I use tasker to do this while at home, though I would still like the option to use nfc when screen off.

Just curious. Anyone considered useing the actual task to unlock from the NFC chip? Would issue unlock then whatever else you wanted it to do. Could be something simple if NFC could activate with power button even though its locked.

You can't trigger off nfc while locked because the process isn't on.

Correct
But since going threw the trouble to have the service on all the time. Isnt also just as feasible to activate the process under the same rules as the screen? As an option to not activate it permanently. Im aware of the conditions and rules that govern it stock but I was merely speculating another alternative while the hood was open .

on demand lockscreen?

searched but couldn't find it so hopefully someone can help.....
i always have my phone right next to me but have my phone set up with a pattern unlock security for those moments that i leave it somewhere in a hurry and not worry about someone being able to get into my stuff but since 95% its right next to me i hate having to do the pattern unlock even though i can do the pattern fast i prefer not have too... so is there an app or shortcut so i can have my phone without a lock but for those quick moments that i need it locked i can activate it with just pressing that app instead of having to go into settings and manually setting it up again then remove it?
Not sure if there is an app specifically for that. Best I can think of is you might be able to set a condition using a app like tasker or impel. Basically, "if I press this button then enable this" I'm not sure how well or if this would even work but its worth a look I suppose.

I don't know of any particular app that does that but I just set my security settings to automatically lock with a delay. I generally leave it at about one or two minutes.

No Lock didn't work but a different app from the store call No Lock Screen works like a charm (for the exact problem you described).
hey @Ma$etas , do you found another app or way to solve your problem ?
Same as you, I need on demand lock screen, I lock when I want. I didn't want to unlock using pattern or pin every time I use my phone.
But, I need to lock it sometimes. If I left my phone on desk, when I'm sleeping and any other condition

Which security do you use? Face Pattern Pin Pass

what one do you use i use face unlock because of the speed hby
it varies on the level of security I need. lol
face unlock is sweet but doesnt work in low lighting
pattern is cool but easy for peeking eyes to guess your code (found this out hard way lol)
plus ive got into peoples phones just by looking at the pattern left in the oil on the screen LMAO!
so for me, i use pin more than anything
I went old school with this one. I do not let other people have access to my phone.
Ha yea pattern is easily recognized by a wandering eye and old fashion way works the best
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I use a combination of the old fashioned way, a pattern, and delayed lock with a widget locker lockscreen so I don't get bothered to unlock with the pattern every few minutes when I'm using it intermittently.

either way your lunch I get my phone back and a full tummy
Grrrrr
I don't like it that patterns and passwords show buttons changing color or trails in the direction you're tracing. Someone nearby could easily watch what you're doing and figure out your pattern or password/code. Also, I wasn't pleased that when I tried using a very long string of numbers, you were limited to something like seventeen or less. I put something like my drivers license number and social strung together but the phone wouldn't take 21 numbers. The reason I picked such a long number sequence is in case someone was watching me enter my code, I kinda doubt they could follow and memorize such a long string easily; especially if entered quickly.

Exactly. How is people witnessing me beating someone with my cell phone for security? Reminds me of a certain commercial as well lol. Best way to backup Face Unlock?

I recently trained the hell out of the face unlock feature and now it's working blazing fast and very reliable in almost every environment.
But since I don't feel like doing 40+ improvements to face unlock after every ROM I flash, want to back up the face unlock improvement pics.
Does Titanium Backup include this when backing up App+Data? Did someone already try this?
Didn't think people used face unlock. Ya, as long as you backup app data it should be in there. Titanium Backup has that feature.

Thx for the info! I also didn't use it, but recently thought I'd give it a try and when you improve recognition in different lighting it works surprisingly well, it unlocks a lot faster than i can swipe or type in a PIN. And it still offers at least some security compared to the simple unlock swipe (not the pattern).
There is an entry called Face Unlock in Titanium Backup, backing it up should do the trick.
I'm interested to know what improvements you have made to make it faster? Mind sharing?

Ok I'll give it a try, thank you!
I did nothing special, there's a built-in improvement feature since 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 i think. You find it under settings-> security AFTER you set unlock method to face unlock. It appears directly below unlock method and above owner information. It should say something like "improve face recognition" (dunno the settings names for sure, my phone language is german. But I think you get what I'm talking about).
If you tap it you can train the phone to recognize your face under different lighting, with and without glasses, shaved/unshaved and so on. Just keep improving until you feel face unlock works good for you. Mine is 100% accurate right now if there is enough light to see anything at all

That's the only problem for me, I use my phone too often when it's too dark to see anything. I tried face unlock for a bit but got annoyed with having to wait for it to timeout. The phone has a light sensor, they need to be using it to go straight to the alternate authentication method in low light.

Just wanted to confirm that restoring the Face Unlock data through Titanium Backup (restore Data Only) worked fine in restoring my trained face sessions after they were reset when I disabled the Face Unlock feature. As mentioned in that other thread, the file where the data is stored appears to be lockscreen.gal in the /data/data/com.android.facelock directory.

Screen off and on without using power button !

hi all
first time poster long time reader
I am so tired of trying **** apps.
Could somebody please tell me what app works with the nexus four to allow me to touch the screen somehow to see a text message etc when it arrives??
for the first time ever I am missing the button in my iPhone that let's me hit it to see what is going on at a glance.
I just want a way to toggle the screen on without hitting the power button on the Nexus 4
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The only way to do this is to leave the screen on, which would drain the battery. There's probably an app that would turn the screen off (or dim it), but this would keep your phone awake and drain the battery.
Someone feel free to chime in and correct me if there is such an app.

Just wait for PGM to be updated for Nexus 4 support, OP; I can vouch for its greatness. You can enable double tap or slide to unlock gesture to turn the screen on. Once you get used to this, you seriously forget you have a power button.

I don't really understand why you cannot make text msgs received light the screen up like it does on an iphone. Try Light flow for that... I think you can set a custom LED color and the screen to come on with certain notifications.
Yeah I've got Light Flow. You can set the LED colour and the screen to come on with some notifications. There is a 'lite' version which should cover the basics. But if you dont use the stock messenger or use things like Whatapp, you need the paid for version.
I use it and it has great customisation BUT at the moment I can't get it to work 100% of the time. So be warned!
It will be great though once they update it for 4.2.

I had PGM on my GN and it works very well, the developer is planning on getting an N4 the last I heard.
I'm currently looking into getting the phone to wake using the volume rocker -- I'm reading that it's inside android.policy.jar and removing two lines that ignore the volume rocker button presses.
Anyone want to give it a go? I'm going to look into it this weekend.

I emailed him too! That is one of the best app out there, in terms of the idea behind it. No real battery drain, but still be able to wake your device from sleep. I died a little after getting that email.
Kinda hope someone would do something like that for N4.
You can use Tasker+Secure Settings (pro version) to use the Google Now shortcut to unlock/lock the device, but there is no waking the device.

Unless I'm missing the point of smart lock. Pressing the unlock button and/or using your fingerprint takes the same amount of time and effort.

I used for some time smartlock (because Pixel was paired with a smartband), so if it's connected, it was set to unlock in this case without password or fingerprint.
Otherwise, if we use fingerprint it take half second to unlock, so it's almost the same, but each user can decide what is more comfortable for him.

You may need to use gloves or other conditions where you cannot unlock the phone, then smart-lock might be useful. But as you say, in normal condition takes almost the same time. Then what is the point? You ask to remove a function that might be useful to others? Just don't use it if you don't like.

I'm sure there is, I have no idea how
On a side note, Google changing the screen to wake with a single tap instead of double tap is equally annoying and leads to the screen accidentally turning on all the damn time. Including in your pocket.
This only started on Android 12. Talk about fixing something that wasn't broken
Iv never used smart lock myself

Ty so much for this.. But from his description
"You phone will never be locked"
I see how this is keeping the device unlocked (for a certain period of time) but how does the device auto lock when leaving a trusted site?
For me I have several trustes sites already with profiles made in Tasker.
My default (outside/not at home) would be where I would want my phone locked
