LG Optimus/Thrill and LG Flash Tool shttp hiccup - LG Optimus G (International)

I couldn't post this under the LG Flash Tool Developer Guide where I spotted the a question for a similar problem I was having. The original question was from 'tpoints' on 5 April 2012:
"i couldn't find the "SERVER" folder to launch the "shttp3.exe" file..also after installing shttp3 at c:\, no exe file appeared to launch the program"
I am sure this is a common noob issue in general, but I had a similar one. The server folder was there, but shttp3.exe file was not.
After re-extracting the flashing package .rar a couple of times I noticed MSE removing items as I was doing this. I turned it and other security off, and the file was finally there after re-re-extraction.
I'm sure many are already aware of this. I'm sure this has come up in other threads. Is it in a noob guide someplace? I don't know. But there was no immediate answer to be found to the problem (especially since I wasn't entirely sure what my question was in the first place): modding files sometimes seem to be 'recognized' as harmful by antivirus/ad/malware applications, so these need to have their live protection turned OFF during these procedures.
Hope this helps someone.

Activesync upgrade problem

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so I'm not entirely sure this is the right place to pose this question. Earlier today, I made the decision to upgrade my Dash to WinMobile 6.1 using the resources here at this forum. The upgrade went nearly flawlessly with the excption that I need to copy the correct keyboard settings cab file still. However, I'm unable to do that because of Activesync.
I had 4.2 installed on my laptop and it never gave me any problems. Unfortunately, the phone displayed a message that I needed to upgrade to 4.5 in order to connect to the PC using Activesync. I downloaded the file from Microsoft's website and tried to run the install program. After clicking the "install" prompt, I get the following error message: "The System Cannot Open the Device or File Specified" Retry or Cancel. Retry gets me no where. I have spent at least 5 hours not trying to find a solution to this problem including a LOT of searching on Google, here, Microsoft's site and other places. NOTHING. I've seen a couple of references to this problem but no definitive solution to the problem.
A few things I have tried: Disable Firewall; uninstall Activesync 4.2 (curiously, after using the Add/Remove Program tool in the Control Paner, there was still an Activesync folder and dozens of files on my hard drive...I manually deleted as many of these as I could); Ran a file called "fixmapi.exe"; and I downloaded the upgrade file from multiple sources, all of which were suggestions I came across during the day.
I'm sooo frustrated because I can't update the keyboard map, I cant synchronize the hundreds of contacts and calendar items I have in Outlook, the phone feels completely useless to me at the moment and I cant believe that this is such an unusual problem (which is my conclusion based on such a complete lack of guidance on this issue).
anything anyone can offer will be HUGELY appreciated!

Need help with hp 4700 Upgrade tools and know-how...

Hi, Need some help here....tired of the same whole mix-mash from htc (recycled phones) so going back to basics - htc s620 (wm6) + my just acquired used 4700. Intend to upgrade it to WM6.1, I've been using htc phones so I am used to rom flashing... or so i thought. I downloaded some of the wm6 and 6.1 roms only to find that dont come with an ruu built in. Not a problem I thought, just get a carrier and replace the nbf file. Unfortunately despite an extensive search on brighthand and here and yahoo searches galore i havent been able to find a suitable guide with the necessary utilities to carry out the flash. The "universal bootLoader" no longer seems to be around (404 errors) samething with other Ruu's (from ru websites etc) yet I can still see thru the long 220 - 251 pg threads that people are flashing with something. In the interest of new 4700 owners would it be possible to have a particular "How-to-flash" thread possibly as a sticky? If not at least can someone help me with a how-to guide and any link to the relevant ruu or bootLoader utility for the rom flash.
Thanx all appreciate it.
You can find all the neccessary information on this page; different ROM's, a bootloader, and instructions in PDF format..
Thanks a lot ridolfo. that has helped a great deal. Slight problem that you hopefully know a way around. After downloading the BootLoader.exe rar file, I tried to open it to proceed but it kept on coming up with an error... "windows cannot open the selected path file...you may not have the appropriate permissions to open them" I just cant get past that altough it has apparently opened and expanded showing a whole lot of other files but i cannot basically get past that stage to run the rom nbf file... Any ideas please?
Right sorted!
Very simple but unexpected solution especially since i hadn't seen the issue mentioned elsewhere.
Simply disconnected all connections to the internet especially wifi (for safety/protection etc) and then disabled zone alarm!
Everything went thru as normal, updated and now just waiting for boot-up.
thanx a lot Ridolfo!!!

MightyROM, Energy & Mr X.. All corrupted!!

whats goin on my fellow hackers?..
Im trying to flash on all of the above ROMs from their websites.. oin all the .nbh file is corrupt upon extraction.. or extracts and then gives error code 270 as the reason for incomplete instal
what cud the cause of this be?
I've used on vista an XP with no avail as well as MAC Parallel Desktop...
Help me guys. if u can
thanks...
Since you are the first one posting this, it should be possible in general.
Naming the OS is a good start. But what packer do you use? What browser?
Energy ROM works with 7zip Codec.
Personally I use winrar. You could try this or the 7zip own program.
you don't really need to open a thread just for this. I use NRG, Cell series and every one of them open up for me. If you can't open it check your download was good. Then extract them with winrar or 7zip. Check the filename...if you see any % signs around the file name, you have to take those out. etc...
One thing I do is just try a different computer
Make sure you have the right .NET framework installed for windows. The wrong version will cause a corrupted file on extraction. I have had no problems with 3.5... found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en
Also - disable any anti-virus software you may be using. Mcafee will often block the CustomRUU file from running correctly for whatever reason.
I've had similar problems, it turns out my anti virus (AVG) was blocking the customRUU, adding it to exceptions solved the issue. Only do this, however, if you're sure you haven't downloaded a virus/trojan!
Ridiculous thread, please read about this accordingly instead of posting a thread and wasting peoples time reading this garbage. There is no Virus. Shut off your scanner.

WP7 Unlocking, Sideloading etc. Problems and Solutions

Now, I know no-one actually likes reading threads, and would prefer to just post a new question at the end (I'm guessing partly because the threads are so long, but that's because everyone is doing it) so I'm going to try and give solutions to as many of the issues with ChevronWP7, sideloading and anything else that's not quite working.
Note, none of this is to facilitate any kind of software pirating (we will notice if it gets discussed, and it's in the forum rules - and kinda immoral).
Firstly, Windows Vista (I think SP2) or Windows 7 is required, this won't work on XP without a few hacks/tweaks, and it's not worth me writing the whole process out, plus I don't have an XP machine to hand, so I can't try things.
The most common issues can be fixed with just installing the correct software.
You NEED to have the official WP7 Developer Tools installed, they're a free download from Microsoft, and if you're planning on doing development (which is after all part of the reason for wanting sideloading) you kind of need them.
There's a guide on how to install them (provided by Microsoft) here. You only need the basic toolset from here, but installing the October update won't cause any issues.
This should solve the following exception:
Code:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
as well as a few other issues.
When running any of the tools, if you encounter issues, try either running the tool as an administrator or turn of UAC (for both, do a search if you've no idea what I'm on about), this may solve some issues with access rights etc.
Once you've got that installed, Chevron issues are in post #2, sideloading XAPs in #3.
ChevronWP7 Issues
With Chevron, most things are explained well in the opening post of this thread. Read it.
Chevron works by tricking your phone into thinking it's communicating with Microsoft servers, when it's actually just communicating with Chevron, this means certain web based activities may interfere (Skype for example).
The best way of finding out what's going on, is to use the following guide, it should work, if that fails, then post a question.

Okay so here is *everything* I did to succeed in re-unlocking my Samsung Focus
1. Have Winphone developer tools installed
2. Connect Phone via USB
3. Wait till zune starts and sync completes
4. Verify that zune is not in a guest relationship
5. open a command prompt, type netstat -a to confirm that port 443 is not being used
6. open an admin command prompt, navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ then type notepad hosts and delete any references to windowsphone developer services
7. go to the settings on the phone and turn airplane mode on (so that the phone is forced to use internet via zune)
8. While the phone is still on the settings page, run Chevron with admin privileges
And it worked!

There's no way to know whether a device is unlocked or not until you come to sideloading, which is the point where it matters anyway. Nothing (visible) will change on the device, so don't bother looking for any changes.
WP7 devices occasionally phone home (as far as I know they only do so when connected with Zune) to check whether they should be unlocked or not. If not, they quietly re-lock themselves, and non-marketplace apps will say something along the lines of "This application has been revoked". You'll need to try unlocking again with Chevron and possibly reinstall the apps. There's not much that can be done other than legitimately unlocking your devices.
There's a sideload limit of 10 applications, though there's a version of Chevron that has this limit hacked out of it, I just can't remember where it is. For most legitimate uses, this limit should be fine (and is better than the student/DreamSpark limit of 3).
XAP Installation
A first port of call if Toms XAP Installer doesn't work is to use the official one. It does work.
If you've installed the Developer Tools linked to in the first post, you'll have it already, and should be able to sideload, if your device has been unlocked. If it hasn't you'll have issues, and you should take a look at post #2 in this thread.

A fix for a common problem involving installing the 15 sec adb installer by snoop05

I ran as administrator did everything i saw in the thread but i kept getting an error stating "the system cannot find the path specified" I had no clue what to do. I searched and looked (i was unable to post and ask) although with due diligence I finally found others with this issue most believed it was a windows 10 issue but its not A user by the name of damaph Thank you as i was unable to do so in the thread where you posted this

I don't know if you guys have the same issue but I had a similar "0 files copied" problem and was able to fix it. My issue was because the script trys to save a log file to
%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\adb-installer.log
My desktop was moved to another location so %USERPROFILE%\Desktop did not exist. To fix it, I temporarily created a desktop folder in my user profile (c:\users\[username]\desktop).
Snoop05, I would move the log file location to %temp% instead of %USERPROFILE%\Desktop.

This was the solution to my issue and hopefully anyone else who may have missed that post and your having this issue thank Damaph and Snoop05
I am very thankful for this as I am not very familiar with using ADB previously i always just used an SD card and never bothered with ADB although with the OnePlus 3 that's not exactly an option.
thanks both of you guys! :highfive:
