Speaker question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Was wondering before I go to best buy and return my note. Does anybody else's speaker sound distorted almost like its blown? Ring tones are by far the worst. It was something I noticed like 3 days ago but didn't pay attention to it much, but after like 3-4 people mentioned it last night I think the speaker might be borked
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

Mine distorts sometimes if the volume is all the way up on certain games or songs. Otherwise I don't have any issues.
Edit: For the centaurus ring tone, it distorts on the highest and second highest volume settings. This is my third note, they've all had similar issues. I just think Samsung amplified the speaker to more than it can handle and is only noticeable on certain songs

Mine too, but it's barely there.

I can't say I've really noticed much in terms of distortion on my Note II... the speaker is definitely louder than my S III though.

I just traded my Nexus 4 for a Note 2 and the only thing I don't like is the speaker 90% of my ring tones now sound like SH*T... I thought for sure the person who traded my the Note 2 blew out the speaker. But now that I read a lot of people having problems at max vol I guess i shouldn't try to replace the speaker...
FYI best trade I ever made for a phone

Well I have been given the chance to return my photon after the 30 day window but once I get the E4gt, I can't return it, no 14 day trial and ill be stuck with it through thick and thin. This will be a huge gamble because the only thing I don't like about the photon is the screen and lack of development support.
I am mainly concerned with GPS, and call quality and reception. I've seen a few bugs but not much compared to most new releases.
My girlfriend has a captivate and it never gets a gps lock where as my photon is instantaneous and I mean literally a second or less.
Speaker phone is not a big deal as I don't plan to host any parties with the phone lol. But id like it to be louder than my EVO 3d that I had because that speaker was absolutely horrible and strained bad even at low levels. Im hoping the "strain" im hearing about with this phone isn't like the EVO 3d.
Photon screen looks brilliant in sunlight which is the only positive about the screen....I been seeing reviews that say the epic touch is good in sunlight. Is this true?
Thanks for any feedback on this.

Im honesty having no problems with it except for swype which fixed its self as I used it more. GPS locks fast inside my house where my epic and evo can never get a lock.

Aside from somewhat inferior 3G/4G/WiFi range performance, the E4GT will be superior in every other way. Definetely a worthy trade.

That a plus. How's the audio out on the head phone jack? My EVO was extremely low and photon is almost as loud as my ipod....

I did the same thing. Returned 2nd photon for the touch and have no regrets. They will try to hit you with a $35 restocking fee. They didn't charge me an activation and I got 20 of the restocking fee credited with customer service Samoled + is amazing anytime including whilst in direct sunlight.

Any word on the head set volume with head phones in?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
the only things i think you would be disappointed with in your switch would be the feel of the phone build and the radios in the photon > ET4g. photon is definitely more solid in terms of feel in-hand (thickness and material) and motorola has some of the best radio tech out there.
however, the thinness and lightweight of the ET4g are better to me personally and the build is not at all bad. i place the radios in the ET4g better than evo 3d and below photon. they definitely did a good job with the ET4g, its getting reception where i never thought it would
you dont have to worry at all about the dev community for the ET4g. root was established 2 days after release. for the evo 3d it took weeks (if i remember correctly). i'm not worried about the development at all
I myself have just come from ATT with a captivate so i understand your hesistant feelings when coming over to the next generation of galaxy s phones. I would have to say that NONE of the problems fromt he original Galaxy S phones are here. Theres none of that terrible filesystem lag, and the GPS in this thing is just short of god tier lol. So id have to say DO IT, I love this phone SO MUCH.

I read that due to the gs2 hvibg a Yamaha dac, it won't support voodoo but its nice to sometimes leave the ipod at home and just use my phone while at work to listen to music. I prefer to just leave my ipod in my car

I can't compare those phones but I will say this. One thing I didn't like about the Epic was low audio on headphones. I am a bit hard of hearing. The touch is very loud and clear. Using the same headphones as the Epic I can't turn the volume all the way up without hurting my ears. And that is saying a lot for me.

It was nice for ead buds but I will avoid any volume hacks from now on when hooking my phone into my car system or home audio as it distorts the fack out of it... Obviously turning the volume down on the reciever or cd player would be the only fix to stop the destortion but voodoo was nice while I was at work with my headphones ( I work at a factory)

Ive had the touch since Friday, I couldnt be more pleased. Ive messed around with a Photon, but by no means a long use. 3g/4g is quick, super responsive, and the battery life on this phone is the best ive seen yet. Signal strength is better than my iPhone-y coworkers. Wifi only makes this snappy phone super-quick accessing web pages and downloading doesnt "load", they blink. Voila! Im pretty scrutinizing of my phone,, and this one doesnt disappoint. ;]
the headphones are amazing on this. Anyone complaining about the sound being distorted when you turn it up all the way is lying. There is no way anyone can listen to music with headphones with the sound turned up all the way. It's extremely loud hence why people think its distorted. When I listen to music I usually have it around 10, anything louder than that and it starts to hurt my head, and i bet people 20 feet away from me can hear it as well.

Speaker quality?

I haven't received my GN yet, but I'll be getting it in the next couple of days.
I was curious about everyone's experience so far with the rear mounted speaker for notification sounds and ringtones. Coming from a Samsung Infuse, I've always hated how quiet the speaker on it was.
Hate to disappoint you, but from what I have read the speaker volume is on the quiet side. However, the audio quality is pretty good.
Coming from an iphone 4s the speaker is incredibly quiet and sounds like crap lol. volume+ helped make it louder so i can at least hear my notifications (kind of a joke it takes a pay app to do that). Luckily the rest of the phone is great

I had a listen to my sister's galaxy s yesterday. Coming from a Nexus one, I found the loud speaker far superioir both in terms of volume and quality. Can anyone compare the galaxy nexus to the galaxy s so I cab build an image of.its performance please?

I bet ya if you choose a ringtone similar to the ones in the iPhone 4 it will be the same
The speaker's volume is quiet and not loud.
Would love to know if there is a way make it louder without ruin it.

Pretty quiet, especially coming from a 4S. I might have to look into the volume + app.. hopefully not at the expense of the speakers though

Philips Fidelio Dock Speaker

Just read this article and ran out to Target. Target has the Philips Fidelio speaker docks on price cut AS140 for $49.99 and the AS111 for $39.99. Out of stock online but you might find them in store. Looks like its been posted in a few other device forums also. I grabbed the AS140 and am impressed.

Sweet! Will check out my target tomorrow.
Picked the last one of the bigger versions from my local target on my way home tonight. I would have been disappointed if I paid $100 for it but for $50 it's very nice.
Picked one up as well. I saw it a couple of days ago on a normal trip to Target. I was shocked. Its basically 50% off I got the AS140/37. Its pretty sweet.

Anyone else have a problem with the quality on Google Music playing through this? I tried the same song on songbird and it sounded so much better. Anyone have a fix?
Edit: I found out it was the app Volume+ making it sound like garbage. Heads up to any of you that use Volume+ to boost bluetooth volume.

Only complaint so far is that the Alarm volume is tied to the regular volume, so if I have it quiet enough for me to fall asleep it's not loud enough to wake me up.

Audio Quality for those with the phone already

Just wanted to enquire with those who already have, specifically the ATnT phones, how loud is the loudspeaker? and is it true that if the phone is laid back down, even a incoming call is hard to hear if the phone was away from you?
Thank you
The speaker is great it's louder than my skyrocket which also has a good speaker audio ids clear and I listen to music all the time... I've also gotten some of the best sounding audio through my car via aux... due to the design laying the phone flat on its back will muddle the sound but doesn't make it impossible to hear

It's a bit muffled... I'm a big audiophile. So I'm pretty disappointed its only mono not stereo and if you lay the phone down to watch a movie it gets pretty distorted... Sound and touch sensitivity. Are two biggest disappointments of this amazing phone

Thanks so much guys! I read your other post on touch screen issues with the phone, do you think you got a lemon? Maybe try getting a replacement, since no one here seems to be complaining about the issue?
I dont like smartphone speaker, and lg speaker is poor than galaxy s3... but i like audio chip of lg with inear headphone, korea version with quadbeat. Its ok, better than galaxy s3. Sound is more details, bass is normal, light sound compare with s3... but i think i like iphone audio chip

apparently the only phone that came close to matching iphones DAC was the first nexus with Voodoo.
The new Note II has a Wolfson DAC and hopefully will get the new voodoo app when it is finished. I still have my nexus S and have held out for a comparable audio quality device.

Speaker hype

So I have heard lots of great things about the speakers on this phone and I'm trying to decide if it's a lot of hype or if I got a phone with bad speakers. I have had the phone for 10 days now and while the clarity is good I'm not impressed with how loud the speakers are. Example is 4 of us were standing around a table watching you tube video yesterday and I wanted some more volume but it was all the way up. We could all hear ok but it wasn't overly loud. Another example is I turned on music player and cranked it all the way up and took a shower, phone was about 3 feet from the shower and I could barely hear the music. So I'm looking for your opinion did I get sub par speakers or am I expecting to much from these speakers?

I have not had a chance to compare it to another HTC one,but I just compared it to my old droid incredible 2 and the incredible 2 is every bit as loud if not louder. The one sounds a little better but like I said it is no louder than the old incredible 2. Hoping someone that used to have a incredible 2 can let me know what they think also.

I just compared my old dinc2 with my One, playing the same songs on each phone separately and at the same time, and the One was a little louder than the dinc2. Not by much, but definitely louder. However, the audio quality of the One is much, much better. Though I will happily listen to audio on my One while working, I never did that with the dinc2 given its speaker audio quality. As far as max volume is concerned, mine is plenty loud and I don't need it to be any louder.
Maybe stop by a Verizon store and compare the volume of yours with the display phone.
Mine isn't that much louder than my wife's iPhone either.

I stopped by Verizon today and did just that. I loaded a pearl jam song on both phones on youtube and they sounded the same. But I do agree with you that the sound quality on the one is far superior to the incredible 2, I just wish it was a little louder.

And this is the kind of thing I had heard about the phones speakers before I got it to lead me to believe that the speakers are even better than they are. You must have some better acoustics in your shower than I do. Over all I am happy with the speakers so I wont complain to much.
I've basically found that while this phone isn't all that much louder than other devices I've had. I came from the S4 and that was pretty loud.
However, the One has infinitely better clarity when it comes to the audio. I'll take that. Now if by some crazy magic they can figure out bass, but given the space available I'm sure that will never happen.
I have and have had a lot of android devices. Some of which (Galaxy Nexus) the speaker volume was so low that is required many tweaks via the kernel and third party apps to make it even reasonable. I agree with you that there is a lot of hype in the "boom sound" of the HTC One. Personally, I don't find the volume to be extremely loud but I do find the quality of the sound to be better than any of my other devices. The thin devices we all love jam so much into their size that the speakers often suffer. If you prefer loudness over the quality of the sound there are third party apps you could try. For me the sound is plenty loud and sounds great.
Loudest phone i've ever had. Some things don't seem like they're are that much louder, if noticeable than other phones, but obviously you have the clarity. Youtube may not be the best test as the audio isn't always the greatest. One thing i can note is when volume is maxxed, the notifications are ridiculously loud.
Seems pretty loud to me. I use it to listen to music while I shower and the fan is on. Still hear it fine. I'll be damned if another phone could match that performance.
Seems to be hit and miss with people. I think some had unrealistic expectations. Honestly for me they are perfect. You have to realize in any noisy environment nothing will hold up short of a real larger speaker. These things are outstanding when compared to any other phone.
With beats enabled the volume seems a bit quieter but the quality is much better out of the speakers. If you need a little louder try turning off beats.
?
So which phone would everyone say is the loudest?
If I remember my specs correctly, since there are two speakers, the One can do stereo audio.
My droid DNA was louder than the One but you had to have the phone on a flat surface as a reflector.
