What screen protector to buy? - Sprint LG Optimus G

I did a quick search and couldn't find much on this topic for this phone, specifically.
For those of you who have bought/used a screen protector for this phone, which brand would you recommend for? recommend against? And why?

ScreenProtector
Hey, personally i just bought the HD Zagg shield for the screen. Compared to other screens out there its a little more expensive, but you cant argue with the clarity and protection it gives. Plus it doesn't distort the picture at all and for a phone like the LGOG screen resolution is killer.

Screen Protector. What is that? LOL, no need with these new phones. My 2 cents.

I too prefer the zagg invisashields

I got the Ghost Armor because it is almost like the HD Invisible Shield.
Full body for $30. Feels like I'm touching the screen itself.
If you really want protection then go for the regular Zagg.

I bought this one from Spigen:
http://www.amazon.com/SPIGEN-SGP-Pr...keywords=spigen+screen+protector+lg+optimus+g
Fits perfectly, easy to apply, high quality, crystal clear, and the price is right.

I bought the Xtreme Full Body Protectors cheap but good really quality, for best protection I would go zag full body.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I've had this screen protector installed since Thanksgiving and the phone is in constant contact with my face all day long and haven't had any oil absorption issues at all with it. Its as clear as the day I installed it.

Awesome, and it's not forcing the edges up at all?
Sent from my Sprint LG Optimus G

The edges come up if I apply really hard pressure to the edges of the case. The key I have found is that when inserting the phone into the case, insert it at an angle under the lip of the case so that you are sure that the lip rests on top of the screen protector and not adjacent to it. Basically, imagine the amount of extra pressure you need to apply (compared to just holding the phone normally) to click one of the volume buttons while the phone is in the case. Now multiply that 5x. That's about how hard I have to push on the sides of the case if I want the case to force the up the screen protector. In my experience, unless I really try, the screen protector does not bubble up when in the Diztronic case and so it just not an issue for me.

I didn't have a screen protector on my phone for the first month, and it got some very light scratches. Also, the center of the screen had its coating rubbed off somewhat (the screen cleaner beaded differently in the center when sprayed on.) I usually use the Zagg HD shields, they covered up the light scratches and protect the phone nicely, I can barely tell that its on.

agreed, can't say enough good about these Spigen screen protectors.
The UQ is amazing but fingerprinty. They are hard to install perfect, but are dry installed. Clean up your dusty environment before you attempted to install one because the tiniest speck will show.

Still not sure how it happened, but I found a few minor scratches on my "gorilla" glass recently. There's never anything in my pocket with my phone, so I really don't understand how they got there.
Anyways, I found a 50% off code for Zagg at RetailMeNot:
feb4
Just ordered a front & back shield for ~$15.50 shipped.
I mean, WTF? Gorilla glass? More like scratch it by looking at it glass. My kid's tossed my HP Touchpad to the ground and smashed trains on it dozens of times and there's not a mark on it. But I put my LGOG in my pocket, take it out, and its scratched. Grrrrrr.

I bought a HD mirror screen protector. I wouldn't advise it. It reminds me of taking your 3D glasses off in the theater and watching the movie. This is while the phone is powered on.
In the sun its hard to see unless its on full display brightness.
These are my findings and opinions. I wouldn't buy it again.

Atrix screen protector

I've been considering getting a screen protector for a while now. The problem I have is my hands sweat very badly (gross I know) and then the touch screen on my phone goes crazy from the water on the screen. I have never had this problem with any phone I've had before now. I think it is because the Atrix touch screen is more sensitive than any other phone I've had. I was wondering if a screen protector would fix this problem and what some good brands were to try. Thanks
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You should always have a screen protector on any smart device you care about. One grain of sand in your pocket can ruin your screen (and your day). That said....
A screen protector will likely NOT fix your problem, as water (sweat) registers as a capacative touch. For a screen protector to "fix" the registration of sweat, it would have to also "fix" the registration of a desired capacitive touch (finger, stylus, or otherwise).
The only manner in which a screen protector could help is if you could find a very hydrophobic one (the repells and beads water), though you would still need to soak up that water with your shirt or a handkerchief or something. I'm not sure they even sell these. Google is your friend, here. Use keywords hydrophobic and/or water-repellent. Good luck, my friend, and let us know if you find anything interesting!

I tried few of a kind and decided to go with Otterbox Defender case which has a transparent front panel.
Refurbished case is about $20-25 and as good as a new one.
No need for screen protector. No mess with applying one...
What if I put on an average screen protector and then sprayed it with some form of water repellent?

Water repellent spray wouldn't work because the screen protectors are vinyl or polyurethane and are not absorbent. Those hydrophobic sprays only work with an absorbent material like cloth or real leather.

only one way to find out...!
I have to disagree with the statement that you have to have a screen protector, we have gorilla glass! I have never had a protector and my screen looks great! As for this situation, a protector that has a little rubberized feel might work well. I would read reviews on Amazon and buy the one that people complain the most about it sticking!

FWIW, my wife has been w/o a screen protector since April and I've been with / without one on and off since June.
Still not a single scratch on either phone, however, without one the screen is too smooth, so I'm thinking of going back installing one.
Hope this helps...
I went without a screen protector for a few months. I took the phone outside and noticed TONS of very fine scratches. You could only see them in direct sunlight, but it bothered me enough that I got a screen protector shortly thereafter.
I was thinking to buy a Vikuiti ADQC27. Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have to second the rec for the Otterbox Defender case. Having the screen protector built in is pretty awesome and in my experience, it has withstood all kind of liquidy stuff on it and plenty of goopy stuff as well. Like those technical terms?
It hasn't hampered my touch screen through various roms with various sensitivities and my glowing review hasn't even hit all the protection benefits it gives.
Best part? I got mine for about $10 'used' on ebay and while the silicone part was a little loose, a quick email to Otterbox got me a free placement in the mail without any hassle.
I haven't used one myself, but if they make one for the Atrix and if it's what you are really looking for, Zagg stuff has made some of my friends really happy.
You should look into a Matte one where is almost smudge free
altho it looks slightly foggy and scratch easily, but its worth it
make sure u get like a few togehter on ebay so you have backup ones

Can you suggest any brand? Something like the GreatShield Ultra Anti-Glare (Matte)?
I have one on mine, steinheil (SGP), while the protector gets scratched its better than the screen getting scratched.
Can't really tell the SGP ultra crystal protector is on the screen either, other than the few scratches that are on the protector now. Comes with 2 in a package if you get them.
They have an oleophobic one that is suppose to be oil resistant, maybe that one might be ideal? The ultra fine is their matted one.
If you look at the product on their webpage the 'Select a Color' changes the type of protector they have (took me a min to find the different versions they had when I looked again).
Last while the corning glass is tough, with a vickers hardness of 622kgf/mm2 in the unstrengthened and 701 in the strengthened stuff is pretty impressive.
Spec sheet for the glass can be found from corning's site using a google search, made me curious to check it.
While pretty hard something as simple and common as sand can scratch it which has a vickers hardness of about 1000....
Keys, lighters and the like are unlikely to scratch it though as unless its hardened tool steel its hardness will likely be below 650, an edge on a tungsten ring could probably do the trick though.
Anyhow I keep one on my phone, though maybe not really necessary I'd rather have a scratched screen protector than see the glass get scratched.

Zagg and Skinomi are quite nice. I like the Skinomi on my tablet maybe even a bit better than the Zagg on the Atrix, but the difference is very minimal. I'd say the Skinomi may slide slightly better than the Zagg, but you're splitting hairs.
I agree with BeakHill. SGP is great except they scratch easier than Zagg. The Ultra crystal is so clear that they don't even have a cut out for the front camera. The Ultra fine is their matte model and it is good and smooth, the crystal is nicer IMO..
The problem with SGP is they spoil you to the other brands, and they are more expensive.
ive always put a total body skin on my phone in addition to a case

Review :Brando Workshop Ultra-Clear Screen Protector (PICS)

I decided to try something new and went with the Brando Ultra Clear. The protector retails for $13.00 and. There is also Anti-Glare one also but the one I chose was Ultra Clear which maximizes clarity.
The installation is straight forward and requires no liquid to apply. Simply peel off the front film, peel off the back film, and apply. The fitting is close to the edges of the screen as possible there is cutout for earpiece grill but not for ffc. Due to the screen protectors high clarity it does attract fingerprints but can be easily be rubbed off. I highly recommend Brando Ultra Clear as the price is affordable, the quality is great, and the fit is amazing. when i watch a video on my phone my expression was HOLY S**T i didnt know my phone screen was this good and how beautiful and crisp the picture was. and i have used martin fields this 1 compares really good and for much less $
Inside the package it comes with :
1 Screen Protector
They shoudve at least include a cloth in the package.

Your Clarivue peeled off? I've had mine on for more than a month and no signs of lifting anywhere.
Still waiting for mine to arrive, I've always used Brando, they're very good. Some of the cheap (and expensive) crap that my wife has bought for her phone really has made the Brando look good. I'm sure there are better out there but it's not too expensive, and no water !
When you install this screen guard, you will not feel a thing sort of invisible. Though at the back of your mind, you know that it offers protection on the display. It is also very easy to install as it kind of clasps the screen when you apply it. Some experienced bubbles on the edges but this product comes with a mini card that lets you push the bubbles away.

I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

[Q] Screen protectors that don't make the screen look grainy?

I finally broke down and got an S3 today and also picked up a pack of the ridiculously expensive stick-on screen protectors that Verizon sells as I didn't want to take any chances in between buying the phone and getting some cheap ones. Anyway, the screen looks very grainy with the protector, especially when displaying lighter images. I really don't mind that much but when I'm taking pictures it really bugs me. I was wondering if anyone knows of a screen protector for the S3 that is durable but doesn't make the screen look all grainy.
Thanks!

I'm not a fan of cases in general, so I bought an Armor Shield full-body protector - essentially it's like screen protector film, but they send precut pieces to protect all of the phone rather than just the screen.
I'm really really impressed with the whole package - the body parts are cool in that they really just give a great grip (the stock phone is really slippery), but the screen protector is really impressive in all the ways screen protectors have disappointed me in the past.
This one doesn't feel rubbery (interestingly, since the body parts add grip), in fact my finger glides on it better than the glass surface. That was surprising.
And, this one doesn't collect fingerprint grease.
I'm betting armor shield sells the screen protectors solo... and probably affordable, I think the whole body package with the screen protector was only $15.
And it's clear, I think for your original question, just avoid "matte finish" screen protectors. Those are the ones with the hazy/grainy finish.

Screen protectors?

Is there any company out there that makes screen protectors like SPG? Currently I have the Verizon screen protector with the diztronic tpu case and it's already peeling. I know Skinomi makes one but it's a wet application and I really don't like the feel of it. I know Skinomi has a sticky feeling to it like Zagg when you glide your finger on the screen. I have searched across the Web. Seems like no love for the Maxx.
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
No, Skinomi is the best protector. Zagg is a piece of crap! I have used multiple Skinomi protectors (never the whole body ones) and loved all of them. I have the Skinomi on my MAXX right now and my fingers glide like on polished glass. You have to be in a dust-free environment and have an assistant help spray your fingers with the applicator. There is a science to doing it right. Also the lifetime warranty is awesome.

She even used scotch tape and everything to eliminate dust. Well...I'm on day 6 of use, and now my protector is peeling off. Why are so many things going wrong with my purchase! I'll call it bad luck and have her put a different one on and hopefully week 2 of my trial will go better and the notification volume issue will be resolved.
Wow those are pretty cool!

I agree with skinomi being on top, still have a skinomi on my original droid razr maxx for almost 2 years and you cant barely tell its on there.
I bought a skinomi and I think it sucks. When I think screen protector I think of something hard that can not be scratched. These "tech skins" are some kind of soft gel. I actually gouged it with my fingernail while swiping.
I use the xtremeguard. Feels rubbery and not as durable as I expected. I scratched it intentionally using my fingernails and it failed me.

using skinomi.. it is a soft type material but protects well.. and the items it comes with just makes it easy to install. if you gauge it with any small scratches or even your fingernail.. dont worry about it, it heals itself back.
Here's a follow up on the verizon anti glare 3 pack. I'm still on my first one. It's got quite a few tiny marks but not visible when display is on.
Once in a while my defender or Trident cyclops cases will make the edge bubble ever so slightly but no dust has accumulated and upon removal of cases with built in screen protectors it goes away.

So has anyone found any glass screen protectors for the Droid Maxx? Phone's been out for a while and I still can't find any sellers..
nitro glass doesn't make one yet... im South New Jersey..and our mall has a kiosk called ClearCoat... pretty sick screen protector...
Another +1 for Skinomi. I am currently using it. Application was a cinch. And they have an application video to aid. It is applied and I put a Otter box on top. Feels and looks great. Not as stick or gelly as I expected. Perfect.
Friend still insists best buy sold tempered glass screen last year. Still searching.

Long story short, my mother just got this phone a few days ago and I know the amount of abuse she inflicts on her phones. She normally just throws it into her purse with all the other stuff. I'm trying to find a protector that can handle whatever may hit the screen. I've used Skinomi and like them but I've used a tempered glass protector and I like those a lot more. Do any of you have a recommendation for what type to get?
P.S. I already have found her a case, so the body of the phone should be safe.

I haven't seen any of those for the Ultra series yet. I have a Skinomi, and have had it on the phone for 5 months now - it's just fine. Occasionally the case will start to peel the edge a bit but it's always easy to get it to adhere back down. In fact, I haven't seen that happen in weeks.
So yesterday I removed my anti glare screen protector (verizon 3 pack) because it was due for a change. The screen was so hard to see, very shiny and reflective, but it did look slightly clearer.
But I became weary and installed another one. Lol.
Anyone have clear full body armor?
