Flashing ATT ROMs on the T999? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

If I flash an ATT ROM, will I still get data and signal or would I have to change the APN? Thanks for your time!!

Its not recomended but you can, otherwise it will brick. You can still get data and signal ive tried that before, you might have to change the APN to actually fix MMS/SMS/Data isues.

Some people says that it works like charm. That you can flash att s3 roms to your tmobile s3 and everything works.
I had flashed the jellybam from att and it works like charm. also look at this thread that came out on the verizon forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069850

I've flashed about 4 different at&t roms all without issues or having to change anything after for things to work properly.

Thanks everybody. You guys helped out a S3 noob very much.

at most after wards I change bild prop stuff from "d2att" to "d2tmo" just incase it may cause any issues but sometimes I don't and didn't see any issues. I always refer back to T-Mobile rom cause if I'm going to use a TW rom it's only for Wi-Fi calling, and we have (In My Opinion) great devs here for our AOSP and AOKP stuff. If you have any questions post here and I'll do my best to help. I'm off for the weekend will be lurking the forums for the day for the most part.

So TW roms from att can be flashed on here too. Awesome!!!

I've flashed three I think and one AOKP (Task & Ktoonez). I had no issues with them though.

Most custom ROM's are without radios. You can always pull the radio and edit the update script.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using XDA Premium HD app
Yes you can edit the update scrip tried a sprint room they have the radio the only ones that dont have it are the cm 10.1 but we have cm10.1 why should we flash a room that we alredy have and we dont have edit the update scrip well thats my opinion

So you say we can't because you are lazy? If you want a sprint or Verizon rom you would be willing to remove the radio file and update the script (honestly 2 minutes of work).
I can confirm I had the 4.1 version of sprints PA ROM (was out before ours or ATT) working, I needed tmobile radio and kernel (took from early port of CM10) and needed an APN app to set APNS as settings APN selector force closed on me.

The radio you get from the development forum. you have a good radio if you get T-Mobile signal. Try downloading HiAPN Global or see if you can change the APNs in the settings menu, I would bet you the APN for T-Mobile is not there.

pegapega02 has been lazy about roms for what feels like eternity, I wouldn't sweat it.
A week ago I tested exactly what you mentioned here... a sprint rom with the tmobile radio. Worked like a champ. Ended up going back to Teshxx's deodexed t-mobile rob because at the end of the day, every single thing works right out of the box, including the themes I want to install on top.
How did you get around the APN force close issue?

In case you need to keep an eye on the ROMs, here is an up-to-date list.

[Q] canadian/bell custom rom

Hi everyone. I've done extensive searches, but I can't seem to find very many ROMs for the bell variant. I'm using sonic ROM, but I would like to start using a more common one that updates more often than not, and I don't feel like using cm. I would like to keep it as stock as possible, as I like the Samsung integrations. If anyone can suggest one or two, that would be great. I tried a couple, but when I tried to restore with tb pro, a lot of apps froze during the process, app only and w/data
Thanks y'all
I'm with Bell also. Dandroid and CSROM both worked great with my phone. Very stable. Wasn't that great on battery but I probably could have tried a little tweaking and they would have been fine.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I tried dandroid, but that's where I had problems when I tried to restore. I was almost thinking of his variant 'blandroid' but I don't want to try and then run into the same restore issues. I think I'm going to try the new wicked ROM. It looks very promising
Sent from my SGH-I747m using xda app-developers app
I'm a noob but in my experience what recovery system you use to flash a ROM will make all the difference. I normally use Twrp but for some reason can't install Cyanogen mod without CWM.
I used twrp for dandroid without any issues.

I've always used cwm and haven't had a problem restoring user apps after a flash

I always though any ROM for AT&T would work on the Canadian variants as all you'd need to do is update the APN settings.
Now I'm not so sure.
I'd like to try Task650 but I'm sure I read somewhere that it's AT&T only.
Generally, yes at&t roms do work on the Canadian networks, most of the time without adding the apns. I was just wondering if there's any Canadian devs out there or someone who's done work specifically for the Canadian networks/variant.
I just flashed wicked Rome v7, and it seems to work well sofar

I'm on Telus running tasks AOKP and they have a telus APN setting. No changes were made.

As you said, generally speaking, AT&T ROMs will work no problem on Canadian variants.
However, you can find some ROMs that are based on Canadian stock ROMs (Rogers, Bell, Telus...). Try searching for VLDLK4-based ROMs (instead of VLDLK3, which is AT&T). Examples of them are Bertiespeed, i747z, I747MVLDLK4_DJJOHNNYBLAZE_MODV1, seeARMS, NexusMod K4, Bacon-JB...

Darthstalker ROM -- All things not development related--

I figured I would start this thread so that we can move all the non-development talk out of the development section. I hope people will use it so that when something that pertains to development is talked about it will be easier to find. We can discuss what kernels gives best battery life, which ones work and which one break things. We can post about our favorite apps, widgets, wallpapers, or how the weather is outside. Maybe someone will get help on an issue they are having. We can discuss anything within the guidelines of XDA, lets just try to help keep Jovy's thread clean.
I'll start, has anyone had an issue when coming out of sleep the screen is dim and you have to go into brightness and tap it to make it work? I think maybe I set my clock frequency to low or maybe I should be using a different governor. Another issue that bugs me is when I have ripple effect set and use a black background for my lockscreen the borders of the screen look slightly grey. I have read posts about this and by turning off ripple effect the color is like it should be. I like the ripple effect and I like black backgrounds, does anyone know about a fix for this, or does anyone notice this issue on their phone.
Here's the link to the Darthstalker ROM if you read this post and want to check out the actual ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442
I am not the developer of this ROM, all credit for this great ROM goes to jovy23 and those he's listed in his OP.

Same here! I find 99.9% of ROM-related issues for us flashaholics stem from not performing a full wipe prior to a flash. I've been fully stable on every DaRTHSTALKER update, with LOTS of varying kernel testing, by using this method. Full data + cache + Dalvik wipe then flash than another cache/dalvik wipe before the boot is always a good strategy!

On another note, has anyone successfully connected to allshare play with another gs3? My girlfriend got hers (completely stock 4.1.1 w/no root) and everything else interacts except for that. I've been a fan of this ROM since the very day the version 9 was uploaded. I got my SGS3 late December (this is my first android device), tried a few ROMs and stopped on this one. (BTW: a suggestion to put a link to the DARTHSTALKER S3 ROM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442 on OP so everyone new to this knows what it is all about).
This being my first post on the entire forum I was not allowed to ask questions on the original ROM's threads (and there are at least two I am following).
Now, if you don't mind a newbie question, here it is:
I am a T-mo subscriber using an unlocked AT&T phone. Currently I am on DARTHSTALKER v9 port for AT&T (here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087164 ). As the most of you I am eagerly awaiting version X1 of the DaRTHSTALKER, but my question is: can I just flash the T-mobile version or should I wait for when an AT&T PORT is available?
Thnks.

I had something happen last night that I've never had happen before and maybe sometime can tell me what it was. I was restoring back after messing with a few mods that didn't work and when my phone booted up in the lower left corner it said "Safe Mode". I went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, and then rebooted and safe mode was gone. What is safe mode?
Thanks,
Todd
Edit: Should have used Google first. Safe mode is similar to computer safe mode. It only loads base os to allow for removal of files. Still don't understand why it happened, but atleast I know it wasn't something bad.

I WOULD NOT DO THAT! Although I cannot answer the question directly, every carrier has modified there own Galaxy S3. They are all completely different. I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

+1. Unlocking your phone only allows it access to a different carriers sim card. It does not change the base of the phone itself. I have a Tmobile SG3 that's unlocked for my travels but any ROM I flash must be a tmo based ROM. In your case stick with the ATT ROMs so you don't end up with a brick, and enjoy this great rom

Just thought I'd add a quick statement to that. Yes you can flash AT&T roms to our T999. But unless you consider yourself experienced with the S3 model T999, I would just stick with what we already have here. You can't just flash and have them work 100%. Often there are different tweaks or changes that need to be made.

Yup, AT&T kernels are compatible with our T999. In fact, some of the custom ones are AT&T kernels just ported over here. At least they were at one time. Haven't looked in a while.

Flashing Instructions:
This will NOT flash a modem. If you are coming from stock MD7, you will keep MD7. Same goes for whatever baseband you have right now!
1. Download zip to your sdcard
2. Reboot into CWM, TWRP, or other compatible recovery(I used CWM 6.0.3.1 Touch)
3. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot
6. Profit
Issues:
I do not claim to be the expert on anything, especially development issues. If you notice issues, please let me know. And if you have a solution to one of the issues I've found, please, by all means, post it and you'll get the credit. Enjoy
Note: It seems when rebuilding this to fix the issues above, I've lost the "rising orange Bs" boot animation. There's still boot-up sound, and the blue Samsung animation, but no Boost-specific. If you want it, you can get it from the previous build If I get time, I'll add it back in manually, but frankly, I like not having it there, it seems to boot a little faster

A little confused.
Is this for Boost or Sprint? Will Sprint users see Boost logos and such? Or is this for people who are trying to use a Boost phone on Sprint service or vice versa?

It's for the Boost Mobile Galaxy s3. Boost has their own variant of the s3 like other carriers now.

Notorious is correct. It's for the Boost variant of the S3. And to answer your second question, yes, it will flash Boost logo, mmsc url, etc.

Glad I asked.
I'd guess that it wouldn't work well on my Sprint phone.

Actually, it'll work just fine. It'll just have Boost signature and mmsc url. Just like Boost and VM users have to change mmsc url, you would have to as well, I think. I say that, because if you check mmsc urlv on this rom, it actually reads "not set." I would be interested to see if mms would send and receive on other carriers with it saying "not set."

Quick ? JD, does my Sprint S3 will have to be on the same MD7(since it was base on that one) or can it be on a different one...i.e newer/older version.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're referring to your modem, then no, it doesn't have to be MD7. This is a Boost build, so you may have to change your mmsc url to get mms

This will not install a modem and should not wipe your device.

So I will not lose any apps or anything if of course I don't do a total wipe I mean?
I did a nandroid just encase but wondered if it would just do the "android is updating" after installing thus all apps would be untouched.
I flashed it once I had some time it kept nagging about wanting to upgrade and was very laggy and slow compared to blazer I was running not ready to be a daily for me at least not till I have some time to remove all the bloat.

Hmmm, that's the first I've heard of that. This rom is completely stock, but yes, not debloated. I just installed es file explorer and deleted all the crap it comes with. And for the other poster, this will not wipe everything if you do a dirty flash. And I'm using it as my dd with zero issues.

Glad to hear it. I have the MG2 tar as well. Anyone interested in a deodex/debloat of that? And silver, how's the build working for you?

Over 300 downloads, thanks everyone! I haven't heard any feedback, so I'm assuming it is working ok. Let me know!
I'm wondering is this ROM a daily driver or are there any kinks that anyone can report on.
