Does anyone else have a problem where screen rotation stops working? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have had the problem twice now where screen rotation stops working (even in apps where I **KNOW** it should work (like Facebook). I try toggling the option in the quick bar on and off to see if I can get it to come back but nothing. I have to reboot to get it back.
I downloaded an app from the market called GyroRotate to see if it is a hardware problem but it doesn't appear to be since the app responds appropriately when it isn't working.
Any ideas?
Stock ROM with root.

Iv had that very same issue a few times. For me it would get stuck in either landscape or portrait. It hasnt happened in a while though. Is smart rotation turned off in settings?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah it is unchecked.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

I have had this happen once to me. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I had not rebooted the phone in about three weeks. Usually I reboot once a week(had an HTC before the Note 2, old habits die hard).

I'm completely stock, I did the OTA update and my screen rotation stopped working. Well I'm not exactly sure if it was the OTA update that caused the problem because i didn't have the phone long enough before i applied the update, so it might have been broken just overlooked it. Most of the time it works but the youtube app does not rotate. I have to restart the phone to get it working again and then after some time, don't know what causes the problem, it will stop working again.

Yup same problem but even when its stuck, samsung apps like email or calculator will rotate, its weird and annoying at times, especially since I cant figure out whats causing it. Im also stock and rooted

Try calibrating in settings then motions and then find gyroscope calibration
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

I have the same problem since the ota update. It happens about every other day and the only way to fix it is a reboot. I've tried toggling autorotation on and off and tried calibrating the gyro and nothing fixes it

I really don't think this is a Q&A issue, which is why I posted it here.
Q&A Issue would be something like - How can I enable WI-FI through a widget.
A possible bug like this one doesn't belong in Q&A IMO.

100% stock and it has happened several times to me as well.

I suspect that it might have something to do with advanced display options. In addition to "auto-rotate screen" there is a "Smart rotation" mode which - if enabled - may disable screen rotation (it checks orientation of your face).

This is a known issue... I had it once before and it's never returned... There's a thread about it somewhere... the fix involves removing the battery and rebooting...

Two questions
Does anyone know of a way to firmly reproduce this error???
How can we report stuff like this to Samsung to get fixed.

I have had that bug too. Only thing that fixed it was a reboot.
I hope they patch it by next release.

Don't know how to fix, i haven't really follow the thread to be honest.
I would start by contacting ATT (611 and ask for tech support), and then Samsung (look in their website).

I would like to be able to firmly reproduce the problem before I contact anyone since they will disregard it (IMO) until I can.

Turn the phone off and then back on make sure you see the little red light in the motion sensor turn on for a second. Rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Sometimes you may have to turn off three finger boot to recovery and reboot system.

[Q] Where did my lockscreen go?!

When I was using my phone today, I noticed that a long press on the power button was shutting down the phone instead of bringing up the menu. Then, I realized that I had also lost my lock screen, which I really hadn't noticed because I don't use the pattern lock. Turns out, even if I enabled the pattern lock, password, or PIN, using the power button still took the phone straight into the home screen.
I don't know if it was an bug in a random app, malware, or what... I spent a lot of time searching for an answer on what might have caused it, but didn't find anything really helpful. I started deleting all my recent apps, but couldn't get the lock screen back, so I ended up restoring the phone to factory settings and starting from scratch.
The only reason I'm posting about it is that I'm not entirely sure what caused it... I'm debating the possibility that it could it could be a touchwiz bug. Anyone else ever run into this?

Yes, its a known bug. I just ran into the bug today and I refuse to do a factory reset to fix the issue since its just gonna happen again. Samsung should be able to fix it with a simple software update.

No, so far the only way known to temporarily fix the issue is to do a master reset.

Ah, that would explain it... I was tearing out my hair trying to figure out what I had done. Funny thing is, I don't even *like* having a lock screen. I was just bothered by the fact something was wrong...
How did you find out that it's a known bug? I must have been phrasing my search poorly, because I couldn't find squat about the issue.
Still, whether I like the screen lock or not, I think this is a pretty decent security bug, considering it removes the ability to lock the phone...

I know because I seen it under "list of known issues". If you scroll down a few post you'll find it. The downside to not having a lockscreen is that if you receive a text message your phone will automatically unlock and you may accidentally dial someone if the phone is in your pocket.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE LOCKSCREEN ISSUE I ADVISE USING A 3RD PARTY LOCKSCREEN. I AM CURRENTLY USING "AGILE LOCKSCREEN" (WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANDROID MARKET). I AM USING THE PRO VERSION, BUT THE FREE ONE WILL DO THE JOB ALSO.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Mine's gone too.... Now that we have root I've a nandroid backup which I believe still had the lockscreen and will try restoring from that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll do a master reset and restore from Titanium Backup. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery will survive the master reset...
I thought that was just me yesterday so I did a master reset

For people having issues of making calls/etc. when the screen unlocks:
Just put the phone in your pocket with the screen facing AWAY from your body.
I had this happen immediately after using the *#0*# test screen, I'm blaming that

Has anyone found a fix for their screen staying on?

I know its been reported with jelly bean that the screen is unable to turn off normally and you have to push the power button to turn it off. Currently the only fix I know of is a reboot. Anyone with any other tips??
Mine works fine, did you flash any mods or some kind of lock screen app?

Yes, I'm on Wicked Sensations v1.2 right now. But i've read that a few people have been having this issue with JB. I just started using XDA so I can't post on the OP yet so thats why I posted here. I'm having the same problem
I am not rooted and running stock jelly bean (ota version that I installed early because I was too impatient for them to push it to my phone). I have noticed my screen randomly staying on, too. It's very annoying because sometimes I don't notice until my battery is dead. A reboot fixes it temporarily, but I'd love a permanent fix if anyone has any additional ideas! Thanks! I've tried all the obvious settings, but can't figure it out. Is there an app that can help me figure out what the culprit might be?
(And can I just say, an edit to a post ought not fall under the "wait five minute" rule for new posters. Just my two cents .)

OFFICIAL BELL JellyBean Screen flicker

Anyone else seeing this ? I am on stock , non modded bell jellybean and getting screen flickering , even after a fresh odin install!
I had some flickering going on the fist time i opened the gallery app while the pictures were loading but haven't been able to reproduce it since. Everything seems top notch so far.
None here. Did you try a factory reset?

Flickers here too. Especially the status bar icons flicker a lot when scrolling, sometimes outright blink. Very disappointed in JB. Scrolling is liquid smooth IF I don't have Power Saving on. If I have Power Saving on, scrolling studders. It never did this under ICS.
Maybe the flickering is because I have power saving on.
Stock, no root.
Just to let you know that disabling hw overlays seem to have solve the flickering issue. :good:

(Q) Super Slow Screen Rotation

I've noticed that if my screen goes off whilst in landscape orientation it takes a full 10 seconds to rotate to portrait. Idon't have any rotation apps or setting turned on so I'm thinking it's native TW issue. Has anyone seen this and/or found a fix?

The only fix I've found is getting away from the stock stuff..

TW framework is big...and I have no idea where to start looking......g
I'm a little disappointed, I mean 10 seconds is flat out ridiculous. Everyone keeps saying that this is one of if not the fastest phone out there, but I'm greeted with this unusual issue that bugs the he'll out of me.

ah damn, ok. mine seems to be ok so far. i can live with the ocassional lag, i just can't stand it when it gets stuck in one orientation no matter what I do.
I saw this in another thread i think, but there is a market app called Adaptive Rotation Lock. I have it set to Force Auto, and my rotation seems to be about normal! At least i am definitely not getting stuck in one orientation anymore. The bad lag seems to be gone as well, i think. And even the lockscreen works in landscape lol.

It's definitely not tied to reboot because when "all is well" I might not reboot for a week or more. My gut feeling is that it's rom related, but posted here to see if any stock users may have experienced this. I'll probably PM @Jamison and ask him or post in the rom thread (now that I have 10 posts-Yeah!!).
