[Q] Scrolling lag for some apps. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I have lag while scrolling up and down in some apps and I want to know if there is a fix for this annoying thing.
I've tried a lot of custom rom (samsung based) and kernel so I think is not this the problem. I installed the App seeders too, but nothing.
No lag for contacts, gallery, menu, etc... Only for this apps:
-facebook
-tapatalk
-ebay
-amazon
If there is someone else who have my problem please post here. So I understand is not my own problem.

I'm aloooooone...

that apps not optimized.

i have one. its the stock messaging app from official samsung ROM. this happened after i flashed the official 4.1.2 from France DLL4, since i cannot wait for the OTA updates. i'm from PH btw.
anyone having the same problem after updating to 4.1.2?

Try scrolling cache. It's an option in omega, but I'm not sure if anyone posted it as a standalone mod on xda yet.

Its not matter of ram, its just correct optimization from specific apps developers for our big screen

Its not the matter of big screen also. I have sgr it lags in it also though i m using cm 10.1 in it with projet butter and i have seen s2 also it lags the size of the doesn't matters at all.

So we had to wait upgrade for the applications.
Apple store in this is better than play store. At The moment.
I hope that in the future this will exchange.
But apple had only 3 device to follow. Android have a lot of device to set. This is the problem.

There are seemingly MANY unoptimized apps. The one that sticks out like a sore thumb is WhatsApp which, without fail, will stutter when scrolling through my chat list.

Whatsapp Lag

For all you whatsapp users, do you notice any lag when using the app itself? Whether it be switching between conversations or just loading the app in general? The biggest issue I see is typing to people, it lags really bad and is quite annoying. I've tried several roms / using a clean whatsapp installation but they all did the same thing.
Nope. No lag on 4.0.4. If you want lag (when opening, that is) try the WP7 client.
Be thankful.
Hmm what rom are you running? Did you change any specific settings?
i have a stock galaxy nexus (international GSM) and its also very laggy. especially when typing on the keyboard the keys can't keep up, its pretty annoying and would love to know if there is a fix for this.
imo also lags when typing.
running 4.0.4
Solution.

Did U in Stock Rom or Custom ??
please give any specification detail.. for ur Q..
i don't know if this is related but i had a similar problem on my Nexus One. What happened was Whatsapp's data was getting too big. I had to clear the data and lose all my current chats, but this fixed the unresponsiveness.
No problems so far with my Galaxy Nexus.
When you clear all your chats do you get removed from your group messages as well?

i have the same typing issue/laggs with my Stock 4.1.2 nexus here. Do you found any solutions ?
The laggs starting when i send more then 4 or 5 messages one after another, very annoying -.-
(newes Whatsapp version is installed)
Not for me, at all.
Have you tried turning on forced GPU rendering in developer options? I know it at leat helps making the scrolling smoother in WhatsApp.

Notification bar lags since 4.1.2

hi
as the title says the bar lags as hell if there are mote notifications than maybe 4 or five in it

could any one confirm that ? or provide a fix ??
thanks
Notification bar lags whenever there is something running on background, an app, or an unread notification etc. It lagged in 4.1.1, it lags on 4.1.2.

Well do you think that when your phone has unread notifications, nothing is running on background? It doesn't necessarily have to be an app!
PS: Just watched that video, jeez! That guy has loads of notifications, mine sometimes lag when there is nothing!

I said I have this problem also when titanium backup restored five apps. ...

I wouldnt worry too much, is your phone dying? No
IS your phone an expensive Paperweight? No ^__^
Back to your question. ITs fine, if it lags for whatever reason then its fine, remember no phone software is perfect ^__^, and it sometimes means that it will lag in some areas, notification bar being one of them,
It's because there are a lot of notifications.
eeehmmm
yes ^^
but why does it NOT lag on samsung android 4.1.1 rom ?
can you tell me that ?
4.1.1 many notifications no lag
4.1.2 many notifications LAG
I have lag too in Notifications in the T-Mobile Note 2.

which version of android pls ?
does no one else notice this lag ^^
I'm on 4.1.1 and have lag once i get about 3 notifications..In any combination(Google now notifications, facebook, texts,GPS connected etc..).But some times I have Lag with out any notifications(rare).
Want to bring a quad core beast to it's knees? Get 6 Notifications that go through the bottom of the screen..Want to really cripple it then upload a few photos or videos to Sky Drive and try and open the shade and look at the progress bar(pull down the shade a few times..I can take a few quirks but for a quad core phone I expect the actual "phone/notification" parts of the phone to be flawless.
this issue is only on the samsung roms try 4.2.1 cm 10.1
I got rhe android revolution 9 hd note 2 and it doesnt lag. Even if there is alot of notifications
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II using TapaTalk 2.
Depending on rom in my impressions. Also yes i can say arhd9 gived me the smoothest notif. bar ever i tried , but last builds lags while pinching to zoom (
hopefully its better with android 4.2
i hoped it only was on 4.1.2 and i wanted to switch back to 4.1.1, but as BrianBaker said it also on 4.1.1

[Q] "Stuttering" while scrolling

Hey! Here's what's bothering me..
GT-N7100, JB 4.1.1. - rooted - Go Launcher EX installed (with go keyboard, go power manager..)
When I swipe through the home screens (3) or go to the app drawer and flip through that, it always "stutters" a bit.. the same thing happens with scrolling the news feed in the Facebook app, scrolling some site in the Dolphin browser or just scrolling the app list in the app manager..
When I switch over to TouchWiz, it's perfectly smooth.. I can have 10 home screens filled with stuff, app drawer fast and smooth, so it seems the Go Launcher is to blame.. BUT - the same problem still exists in facebook and the browser etc. regardles of launcher used. Also, there are no app killing managers installed or active, I use go power manager simply to monitor the battery..
There's plenty of free memory, usually 1GB or more, using a HomeManager to kill TouchWiz or to disable the Go Launcher doesn't help.. could it be some lack of hardware acceleration in those apps or something, I'm not really an expert here so.. I won't go crazy over this as I'm more about using it than looking at it, I'd just like to now if it's something I can fix or my fault or is it something else.. Tried killing all but the neccessary apps through Task Manager, but to no use.. Seems kinda silly to have a quad-core 1.7GH, 2 GB RAM phone that has problems scrolling a web site..
Any advice?
Thanks guys!

Just use touchwiz launcher. I don't get why people like go launcher. It looks like cheap Chinese production to me.
Use the stock samsung browser for the smoothest experience. Other browsers, especially chrome, are known for their lag.
I don't use facebook so I can't say anything about it.
In my experience, scrolling on the stock kernel is much much smoother than all the custom kernels.
You can also wait till Google releases the next version of android with improved project butter.
Try using the app called Seeder.

I don't like TouchWiz. I can't get my main homescreen organised the way I want, the page indicator itself take like a row and a half, I don't have the app drwer options go launcher gives me etc. There's nothing cheap looking in Go Launcher, I don't get what you mean? I don't use Chrome nor the stock browser, Dolphin has a LastPass plugin which I use cause for work, cause I have like 25-30 passwords and don't want the browser to remember them.

Installed it, but no improvement, in fact, maybe I'm just imagining it, but seems worse in some cases?
Guess I'll try some custom ROM, like Omega or something. Meant to try out something else anyway, cause of the multiwindow support that can use all the apps, not just some like on stock.

I'm on omega now and I still get stutters. Any sort of scrolling has some occasional lags I've found. Notification bar included.
I notice the same stutters in my One X, s3 and note 2.

To be quite honest with you mate almost all roms ive tried that are based on the stock rom such as omega, ARHD, Wannamlite, etc all have the same stuttering/lag when scrolling around especially in the settings menu, you could try certain tweaks or mods but the difference is almost unnoticeable.. However, this issue is not present in the AOSP/CM10.1 ROMS, they are very smooth.

Xperia Ion 6.2.B.0.211 Bugs List

Hi guys:
The idea is to make a bugs list to send it to Sony talk forum....
I did full wipe for all things before installing the rom so it's real bugs.
Bugs List:
1- WiFi stop working with some sim cards (redions) like Syrian Sim Card.
2- Scrolling up bar have some lags on home screen with default Sony wallpaper (comparing with ICS and Acro S JB).
3- RAM memory always between 220-350 I mean it's less than ICS.
4- Video recording is laggy on HD\FHD resolutions.
5- Album now shows all photos and images for games in Android\data that wasn't show it with ICS Album.
For me it's still better than ICS but it's not realy smoother.
HD isn't laggy at all.

Why would you post that in a "What's wrong with it..." thread?
I think this should be talked about in the DISCUSSION THREAD.
However if you keep the posts STRICTLY bugs/issues wrong with the firmware, I will let it go.
PLEASE DO NOT POST WHAT YOU LIKE OR WHAT WORKS.
ONLY POST PROBLEMS HERE
The DISCUSSION THREAD is for ALL the rest.
That is the whole point I started my thread that was closed. People are not reading the discussion thread and the ones adding seem to be spreading false information. From the looks of it is only a handful of users are even having any issue.
1. I have had zero issue with wifi but that's not to say other countries are not.
2. I have seen zero issue with scrolling after I have let my device settle. Though I do still get launcher redraws coming back home from some apps.
3. Indeed there are scrolling issues in some apps with the Play store being the big one. It seems to me the adds are the culprit on this one.
4. My ram usage is actually less than it was on ICS.
5.Camera is fine for me with the only issue being screen lag with movement while recording in full HD video but it does not effect the recording. Cyber-shot should fix this.
6. There is some extra lag in the power button and shutdown but do not really see this as being a bug.
7. Album is perfectly fine for me.

Nice to see some positive reviews of the new firmware. Personally I'm waiting on CWM to come out for the new firmware before updating, but all the negative reviews have definitely made me hesitant in adopting the new firmware. You would say you like JB more than ICS?
Edit: Also, like you said, if the ram usage really is between 220 and 380 mb, that's about what I'm seeing with ICS. I never see 380 unless I don't have anything running, and 180 isn't uncommon when I've been using it a few days and have something like Skype running in the background while using the home screen. Also is the screen choppy or is it smooth but just a bit behind where it actually is?
To me it seems to run better than ICS. Not having a working recovery I have not been to brave at trying to change things. For what its worth I have been running it from they day it showed up and I don't get near as aggravated with it as I did on ICS. I did a Antutu run today and scored a 8647 and that is quite a jump from ICS.

6- The same that ICS for me, I hardly turn off my phones.
7- Not happening for me.
Overall this update is good, I wont change it for ICS..

I've had a few random hangs. The phone freezes and pushing the back, home or power button does nothing. The phone goes back to normal but it is annoying. Could have been a bad flash though, i wiped data, cache and dalvik but didnt do a factory reset(and didnt format internal memory which i like to do on a clean install).
Also camera takes its sweet time to focus on night shots(plus you need a steady hand or you get blurry pics).Got some redraws here also.
Overall i still like it a lot more than ICS. Rom is a LOT smoother and performance is a lot better, plus i like the new look.
Okay to everyone if you don't want to have a bunch of bugs I would highly suggest you do a full reset before flashing JB. If you don't then your just asking for problems.

1- Yes it's about the regions sims.
2- You just put the default sony JB Wallpaper and compare it with scrolling the up bar in Acro S "I mean the bar for bluetooth - voice - data traffic) you will see that Xperia Ion is laggy.
3- I mean when you press the middle menu bottom , but i will remove it because it is not so laggy.
4- That's what i mean.
6- I will remove it.
7- Just install games like "Draw Race 2" that require download data , after downloading the data to "Android\data" you will see that all data photos are in album , that wasn't shown in ICS.

I wouldnt call it a bug
Btw, you can reduce launcher redraws by adding one setting to the build.prop .
In the themes section is a mod for better camera, which also reduces the time of focus.

Laggy scrolling in browser

Is anyone else have problems when scrolling web pages? My phone laggs pretty much in browser. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Problem can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jttoOoC8k_Q#t=00m07s
Loaded page is http://m.monitor.hr, browser is android default browser (but same problem exists in Chrome).
it is probably a lot of advertisment content inside
in my G4 is same as you - laggy
Yeh, I've had lots of problems using chrome on some web pages. Seems to be advertising.
I'm now using Opera, which runs smoother for me.

It's totally smooth here using UCBrowser (rooted + adblocked of course) :good:
It's driving me crazy, especially because I'm using desktop browse agent. I desperately need root+adblock, tried the adblock plus without root solution didn't work well.
Tried that page on mine. it's as smooth as silk with no lag at all.

Thanks for you replies guys.
It is true that page on video is loaded with adds, but by my old Samsung Galaxy S4 scrolls it without problems same as my 7" Alcatel tablet bought for less than 40€.
From your replies it seems that some of us have this issue and some not. I'm considering to ask for a replacement unit because I tried other unit in T-Mobile center and that one didn't have problems with laggy scrolling.
Will try to do a factory reset and test it again (shame because of lost time for settting it up).
Hard reset did not solve the problem I think I will try to get replacement tomorrow.
