After OTA 4.1.2 Update, having wifi issues/problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was using MrRobinson's stock rooted rom. When OTA 4.1.2 came out, I unrooted, installed patch, ran CF-Autoroot then I'm back to rooted again. However I did notice, every now and then, my wifi stays connected but connection dies. Internet connection is simply dead. So I don't get any email notifications if ever I get new emails. To fix this I have to turn wifi off/on and internet is ok again. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I wipe cache/factory reset, odin back to full stock non-rooted, installed OTA then use Exynos Abuse/Exploit to root. I am still experiencing the same issue. Att Smart Wifi is disabled. Wifi is always on under sleep policy. I have scorched the net and I can't find any solutions Any help would be much appreciated.

Mine is on the oem update no root even, and my wifi sucks now. The signal and connection will be good but it can't up or download anything. Wifi speed and cellular data speeds are all sub 1mbps also. ATT wifi is disabled also.
The only thing that helps me is to just pair to another wifi source, and go back if needed. Annoying! I'd love to find some solution also, I don't mind rooting if need be for it also.

Already have the phone more than a month, don't think I can swap it out
EDIT: Btw, no issues on custom roms, only having issues when using stock rom

You can still do warranty to get a new one just call att and tell them your situation with it. This would be my best recommendation to you. Or just root and keep running roms. This is one phone that I havent had the urge to customize with a rom or anything yet

Thanks for the recommendation but I also felt the same before. I thought the phone was fast enough that I didn't need to try custom roms. After trying Scott's ATT CleanRom SE, that idea was simply change. If you haven't, you should try running custom roms. Although, I would still want to know if there is a solution to this problem when running stock rom.

I've had similar issues since OTA upgrade to 4.1.2... Wireless auto connects to my wireless when i walk in the house, shows connected, but cannot actually download/upload/browse/etc unless i manually turn off wireless and then turn it back on, it reconnects, and works fine. Seems an issue the phone is having transitioning from celluar network to wireless...

Perhaps it's a minor bug somewhere and the custom ROMs happen to pull that wireless code piece from something other than official 4.1.2 where the bug (if it is one) is located.

Yeah but hopefully it will get fixed soon. As I was looking for solutions, some people think it's their wifi routers that are having issues.

True, but 4.1.1 didn't have this issue. They must have changed something.

I don't know if it is related to the issue in this thread, but I had a problem with the phone since I got it of the WIFI constantly connecting, then disconnecting, then connecting again. I solved it by changing the security model of the router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP128.

Yeah saw that thread somewhere but this is a whole different issue. Wifi stays connected but no connection to the internet. You get connection timeout.

Yeah mine just quits. A note 1, a note 10.1, 2 ipads, 2 iphone 4's, and xperia ion and three separate computers have had zero issues on any of the wifi networks here. In fact, if I leave it be, it will not work on the phone, and it now seems to block all the rest from access! If I turn the wifi off on this, perfect immediately afterward. Strange.

did you try just simply reset your router?

I had all the problems in this thread after 4.1.2 A factory reset fixed it.

I'm using the international ROM (custom but fairly stock) and started experiencing the same issue when I switched ROMs.
Toggling the wifi always fixes the problem, but it's not a permanent solution. The problem seems to happen when the device goes into sleep mode for me.

Wifi connectivity issues

Hey all, I was hoping someone else has had this issue and has fixed it. I'm running a stock unrooted phone and when I connect to wifi, it connects to the AP and obtains an IP, but I cannot go out to any website or use any app that needs a connection (facebook app, etc). Things I've done:
Restarted phone
Factory reset phone
rebooted router
Tried other roms
Sent to samsung (they did a SW update) x2
Forgot the network, then reconnected
This is getting extremely frustrating as it's been this way since I've had it, but it got worse with the ICS update. Anything that anyone has tried and actually worked? The funny thing is, when you reflash the phone or do a factory reset, it works for about an hour then stops. Thanks in advance!
Have you ever connected that phone to a different wifi?
I encountered an issue a few months back where something went wonky and i had to completely reset my router and set it back up. Have you tried that too?
sent from my T989 full of CM awesomeness and a touch of Venom from the Darkside!!
Yes, I've tried different wifi AP's and none of them have worked, while others are on them including mine at home. I have not reset the router and reconfigured it because it's a cisco and as such is a pita. I have looked through my config and cannot find anything obvious. But still, others are able to connect just fine.
Same issue here. Never noticed it until recently. Reflashed LE1 and it worked for a couple of days. Going to flash the galaxy note modem tomorrow.

Try to disable the "UPnP" in your router.

premiatul: I can't find anything in my router for upnp. If anyone knows how to disable it in cisco ios 12.4(11)T1, I'll gladly try it.
Autx: please let me know how that goes and if it works. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up that the note radio didn't work. Also, the new official update didn't fix this issue either. Maybe I'll just have t-mo replace the device since it's not happening to everyone. Thanks all for your input!

Home WiFi not working on E4GT

I obviously have the Sprint S2, and I continue to have issues staying connected to my home wifi. I have no problems connecting to other wifi networks. It will connect, then after a few minutes, it disconnects, even though it shows I'm still connected in my notification bar. I've searched high and low. It seems many other people are having the same issue, but no one seems to have a fix. Anyone here know of a solution? Thanks in advance.

So I finally figured out what the issue was. A lot of mobile devices have a hard time connecting to highly secured networks such as wpa2. If you have a wpa, or wpa2 protected router, you can only use numbered passwords. Up to 10 characters. I tried this, and it's the only solution I found. If that still doesn't work, change your wpa2 security to wpa, with a numbered password only.

if you have to use numbers and only 10 chars, it sounds like a router config issue. sounds like you have WEP on rather than WPAx
Wifi busted
I actually have the same issue. Wifi worked flawlessly on gb. On ics every time phone goes to sleep it drops, notification says connected. Toggle wifi off and back on works, phone sleep back off. Tried wifi never, only when plugged in. Switched to 2.4 ghz only tried 5 ghz , too. Linksys ea4500 wpa2/aes(setting) brand new. None of the numerous other devices in the house have any issues. Speeds seem awesome.
Tried factory reset nothing works. Even got sprint to get me a new phone, still no solution other than going back to el29. Currently, running fi03 stock rooted. Scared to try latest fi25. Any other suggestions would be great.

still sounds like a router compatibility issue. See if it happens on a different wifi.
The only way i can successfully stay connected is if there is no security or wep is used. Same router nothing had changed. Again worked flawlessly with EL29 update comes to FF18 and it no longer works. Sprint has said it is a known issue with ics on samsung and htc but no fix. Don't want to give up my security just to use wifi. If i roll back to gb everything works again without changing anything in the router. So i don't believe that is it. Plus, i know all about router settings not a noob. I beleive it to be something in the phone update.

My wife runs fully stock newest release and its fine. Try a different router. routers can have compatibility issues with devices. Also you say "its a known issue" but can you give a source?
I'm not saying its router settings. I'm saying it can be a compatibility issue between router and phone chipset.

I guess i should've mentioned there are 2 of the same phone in the house. Wifi works fine on the other device. Source? As in sprint tech support told me over the phone it was a known issue with samsung and htc devices, not all are affected. This is why sprint decided to replace my old non working phone for the new one.
Not sure why of it were truly a setting inside the router why would one work but not the other? Seems highly improbable to me, just saying. I do appreciate the feedback though.

So two of the same phones. One connects and one doesn't. Interesting. About the tech, seems a pretty wide declaration of an issue. samsung and htc phones. lol. There are a ton of those and its a 'known issue'. If it were a known issue, they would have it tied to a specific phone and wouldn't say 'well err um some phones work and some dont'. lol. Anyway, I don't usually trust those techs.
Back to the issue. If one works and one doesn't... Then it sounds software or still compatibility type issue.
Have you tried these things? If it were me, this what i'd try....
1) I'd reflash your phone's ROM fresh and try again. Full wipe. It's possible the update boinked your wpa_supplicant settings.
2) DHCP: stick a static IP on your android and see what happens. (dont confuse this with a static dhcp lease) DHCP does some interesting things on android phones as far as wakelocks and such.
3) In the router, turn off all the bell and whistle crap... Some of these routers have things like 'afterburner' and things like that. It can cause issues at times. Keep track of what you turn off and obviously if it don't work, turn it back on again.
EDIT:
This is interesting as well. Your not the only one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847889&page=4
Try the things I posted but ultimately, you may need to just flash a different ROM version... Doesn't mean you need to go all the way back to EL26. At least you know its not only you...
So I initially called Centurylink, and they told me to change security settings. I did this, and it worked for a short period, but then dropped again. I couldn't figure out why this kept happening, and it had become quite frustrating. Then I realized that I had created a new network with a personalized name and password. My laptops connect fine to that network, but my phone won't, so I connected to the initial network created by Centurylink, and have had no issues. So I can suggest trying that as well. Hope that helps

Same issue for me too, since moving from gb. Running S710.10 S.FI27
I see this on both of the WIFI networks I connect with regularly. Home is worse. Every other device at home, including phones, PCs, TVs, tablets: mine and guests, can connect and stay connected just fine. My Epic 4g with ICS can't stay connected to save it's life.

Set up both home networks using WPA/WPA2-PSK and no issues. Did have issues at work with WEP so perhaps that's the offending solution? If so try TKIP instead.

Have you even bothered to troubleshoot your own issue? Obviously since wifi works fine for almost everyone including me it's something with your setup. What do you have your wifi sleep mode set to? Try changing your frequency mode to just 2.4. Have you tried any different networks?

It's a known bug to some. I had a thread about this issue I believe. It had left for a few builds and then reappeared to some on the FI25 build. At one point we narrowed it down to a certain routers but no real evidence. It doesn't matter what your settings are in, even if you keep your settings on "keep awake always". The WiFi just stays as if connected but really isn't. It'll show greyed out bars or not active. I gave up and ignore it.
Laughing at some of you comments here. YES, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. Different routers, all kinds of wifi settings, even used a root explorer to change some wifi settings. Still issues. I am ignoring it now and was hoping for a fix and it's pissing me off. Looks like it may be a hardware issue on some phones

What exactly should I be looking for in my router settings? Btw, wifi still disconnects on Parandroid JB...wtf. Everything worked fine on GB.
I still have the issue where wifi just sucks down my battery worse than 3G when it idles, but the phone gets plenty of deep sleep. It's happened across roms, fresh wipes and only on ICS and never on any gingerbread setups I've used. I've tried 3 different routers, on different frequencies. I've spent countless hours combing through battery and cpu monitors. My final verdict is that ICS was for the most part a total **** show for this phone, and it's only usable because of the selfless devs who devote their free time to tweaks and builds that get the best they can out of it.
Sorry op, but in my anecdotal example, there is no answer for particular wifi problems on ICS with this phone.

I just sure hope that the official JB rom for this phone will fix my wifi issues. It's weird, but some users have no issues with wifi and some do. I wonder if hardware is different. I'm not eligible to upgrade till July next year..kinda want to check out that LG Optimus..but at the same time want to see what GS4 (whenever it comes out) will have to offer

What channel and encryption type are you using (for your main connection)? Also what brands of routers have you tried it on. I don't think it is you, but I am just curious.
I use to use Linksys routers, but the last 2 I had were turds different models, and sent them in for RMA to verify the unit wasn't just a bad unit, now I won't use ANY Cisco product unless I have to (after the routers overheating in the middle of winter in my basement with proper ventilation and sending them back a few times, and their new 'secure' firmware that only allows you to connect via their website back into my local router).
lol don't listen to these people telling you to check the router settings...
It is a bug in ICS (most roms i have tried), i suggest downloading an app called Wi-fi keep alive.

i'll try that as my phone got this bug also.
I didn't happen in FH13 Stock rom, but when i upgrade to FI27 this bug is starting out!
weird thing is this bug only occured on my office wi-fi (Linksys WAP54G). No problem occured when I use wi-fi at my home.
I heard if you stand on your head while doing the macarena your wifi won't disconnect.

Ya the app seems to work, most of the time...Just make sure you launch it after a reboot? - Good enough for me though, also i have all the work arounds checked in advance settings, didn't have the patience to experiment.

[Q] yakjuxw 4.2.2 update?????

I got a samsung galaxy nexus with a yakjuxw build?? is the 4.2.2 update ever coming??? i keep on pressing check updates but says that my
system is up to date.. Should i root my phone???? or is there an OTA update coming?
I would just root it and install either takju image or a custom ROM if I were you, seeing Samsung's track record at keeping the yakjuxw build updated, I don't think it's coming anytime soon.
All guides to unlock, root and install all are in the sticky, read it all through and you should be fine. Good luck.

Hi thanks! im new to this. Ive never rooted any phone in my life. so this would be the first, is there one specific thread that i should look at?
Efrant has a very good guide covering all of the basics stuff.
It's quite a lengthy read, but it covers most of the important subject you'll need to know, so it's highly recommended, about flashing your device to takju, use this guide, it'll walk you trough all of the manual steps needed to unlock and optionally root your device.
Keep it mind there's a faster and easier method, I.e. mskip's toolkit. But it's generally believed that you better do things manually, step by step first, before using something automated like a toolkit. Because then you'll at least know how the commands works, and if anything goes wrong, you can fix it manually yourself, instead of resorting to a toolkit without knowing how do they work, and why did you fail.
It'll takes more time with more trial and error than a toolkit, but hey, at least you'll learn something.

Just Google wugfresh toolkit, you can't brick a gnex anyway even though some people in this forum think u can with a toolkit but I have never seen any proof of such a thing happening.

As ^ mentioned use a toolkit If your new to it. I was on yakjuxw like u ,and I used the wugfresh toolkit to flash to Takju and Im on 4.2.2. Be advised Im facing wifi issues when the phone sleeps, This is a common issue with many users and has got nothing to do with flashin from yakukxw to Takju

Not to sidetrack the thread or anything, but what's the WiFi issues you've been having? Mine constantly turning itself on while sleeping despite setting the 'Keep WiFi while sleeping' to never, wonder if both are related?

Glad I'm not the only one, I thought it's an rogue app on my part or something. It's ridiculously annoying, I have bad wifi signal in my room, so I set it to turn off after sleep, but the damn bug keep restarting it and I lose like 2-3% per hour. Ridiculous.

Damn, if only we can switch our issues lol. Mine randomly wakes up and creating wakelocks, it stays up just fine, maybe it's your router? I remember having issues with WEP and b/g, switched to WPA2 and n and it disappeared. And shouldn't the phone automatically switch to mobile data once wifi signal is lost?

I really wish we could switch issues.. , when im home I usually turn data off, but the problem is that the wifi doesn't drop(a few times it does) , it active jus that the bars are not blue, they're grey, indicating limited connection, ive tried all possible settings on my router, reset it but no luck. Damn you Google! I had this on 4.2.1 too. Were you facing the same issue on 4.2.1?

Not that I know of, but it started happening in the last few weeks, so it could be a kernel problem or something, since I haben't switch kernel in around three weeks, so it could be that. I just flash another one, hoping it'll fix it.

[Q] wifi calling not working

I've had my Note 3 (SM-N900T) for a few months. Wifi calling worked up until a few weeks ago. I don't know what I could have done to break it, but it's busted. The phone is connecting to wifi (the internet works), but the wifi calling icon never appears, even if the setting is changed to only use wifi calling.
I've tried forgetting/reconnecting to wifi, worked with T-Mobile support, they verified all the settings on their end, and eventually gave me a new sim. They tried to blame my router (which hasn't changed in the last few weeks). I went to a friend's house and wifi connected fine, but no wifi calling. I went to a T-Mobile store and their wifi didn't work. Probably not the router...
My phone is rooted with the DeLaVega root (knox not set) with minimal changes. The T-Mobile store blamed this issue on the root, of course. This was working for quite a while after the root.
Before I do a factory reset, is there anything I'm missing?
Thanks!
Nope note 3 wifi calling sucks

Do you think it's likely that even after the factory reset, this will eventually happen again? Should I just get used to the fact that I don't get wifi calling? That might send me crawling back to AT&T.
I had WiFi calling issues on Note3, updated router firmware, works like a champ since then (close to 2 months). Since my old GS3 worked well before router update, that was little tricky to figure out.

I looked up the model of the router, found the manufacturer, and downloaded the firmware file. Then logged into it and found the advanced features and updated the firmware. This process is slightly different for every router, but that's the gist of it.
It shouldn't impact the router settings. The only impact will be the brief downtime as the router updates and resets.

Yeah, could be the ROM for you. I'm using the stock ROM. And I'm already on the latest firmware on my current router, so I'm having Frontier send me a new model of router. Maybe that will help?

Fixed
Sadly, I did a factory reset and replaced my router, neither of which were the root cause.
This was the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599509
I replaced the file specified in that thread and wifi calling is working now.
