[KERNEL][GPL] franco.Kernel - r17 - Nexus 10 Original Android Development

Hey all. I hate bloated OP's so this is a simple one. I don't post changelogs in here, only when I released new versions so you'll have to search for it.
Just for general awareness this is compatible with CyanogenMod based roms.

F.A.Q.
1. My tablet exploded, halp!
A: I don't answer to problems without a log. The log file is in /proc/last_kmsg. Retrieve it from your device and attach it to your post.
2. This kernel works on Y or X rom?
A: This is one of the worse questions you can ask on my threads. This is a Nexus, it works on every rom you can possibly imagine.
3. OMG BETTARY SUCKZ, IT DEAD IN 45 MINUTAS, HALP!
A: As you can imagine I don't build kernels to decrease battery life. All the battery life problems come from your apps, either Facebook, or Maps, or some Location Service being enabled etc etc. Check your damn wakelocks and fix them, the kernel is not responsible for them.
4. How do I flash this?
A: Reading the OP, theres a reason why I added instructions on it.

What exactly does the thermal throttling patch do?

First! Excited to see your kernel making its way here. Love your kernel on the Galaxy Nexus. Thanks again!

Basically just ensures that after that constant is true the thermal_throttle function call is called.

Hmm, if your phone explodes after trying a new kernel on a tablet, you might have bigger problems on your hands
Joking aside, awesome This was my kernel of choice on the Nexus 7.

AW YEAH!

Yea!!! Now I need to buy a Nexus 10. Thanks Franco for supporting the Nexus 10

What kind of features do you plan to try and add to this kernel?

I see. Sounds good. Overclocking is pretty useless on the Nexus 10.
If you haven't already read around, thermal throttling is a big issue on the Nexus 10 which makes it seem a lot weaker than it is. So hopefully your kernel can cater around that issue.
Thanks!

How? Throttles too much?

Won't boot on aokp. I know the op said cm, but I tried anyways. So for the others that will ask, aokp is a no go for now.

Throttles too easily. Run stability test app on the stock kernel and you will see the clock drop from 1700 to 1500 after a minute or two.

Yeah. When playing games at stock speeds, it'll start to throttle and lag.
People have been fixing this by undervolting, underclocking to about 1.2 ghz, and raising the thermal throttle temperature.

Have voltages been tweaked to allow you to run it at these speeds and it still be stable?
Edit: Have you compiled the new wifi driver to go with the kernel as well?
I think it would be best if you just posted it anyway. Those interested will download it, use it, comment, etc. Those uninterested will ignore.
Sounds crazy. How would it effect bacon bits if you have that installed?

Yes I have the wifi driver and no it wont affect bacon bits. It is actually now 1.9Ghz and I'm reaching for the big 2.0. I am using coolbho3's source code and 1.8 worked on 1400Mhz and 1.9ghz is at 1500. It gets a little warm but setcpu profiles are a must

What have the voltages been tweaked to? If the Cpu isnt getting enough voltage and you continue to overclock your gonna begin to get negative effects followed by freezing and rebooting. Not really concerned too much about battery life as much as stability.
EDIT: Oh NVM i see what your saying the Mhz after the 1400 threw me off

Just want the best performance and best screen off battery savings. Great work though. I was hoping a dev work run with the source for sense once it was out(sort of apperently)

No, you will have to wait for a kernel dev to tackle it, or do it yourself. I am not a kernel dev, and this was more or less a test to see if we could get it compiling (since it was missing files from source).

got a hard lock simply typing a text message on google voice. maybe my DINC2 can't handle 1.6 ghz.
Thought i was alone with rhe lock up. Had to go back to stock kernel until i better understand how work with overclocking.
Edit: reinstalled this kernel. This time i also installed Setcpu. All it well and right once again. It appears as though my dev doesn't like running at 1650 but is happy at about 1350. Will see how it goes. May tweak it more.
Don;t clock to 1.6ghz then
Does this disable perflock? I have no clue about sense kernels I'm just wondering if I can use things like Juicedefender to regulate clock speeds without having to rely on SetCPU unlock it on every boot.
Installed this and no my wifi doesn't work I will keep playing with it, but it will not let me connect to my wep network.

There is no need to have it on. That's nexus 102.
It does nothing bar force gpu rendering for apps that don't utilize the gpu because they aren't optimized for ics. And for stupid, pointless benchmarks.
Try flash Franco's latest nightly, r98. It has an oc'd gpu to 460mhz.
Try that and report back.

Okay yes, I realize it doesn't do anything for ICS optimized apps but OP asked why quadrant was reporting 20fps instead of 60fps, and this is directly correlated to gpu rendering being on & off.

My kernels are more about removing waste than adding stuff (Although i do grab features that are worth while, i am more referring to patches fixing issues noone knew they had, just to inflate git logs)
Things i do add is tweaks to cool overly Yellow panels.
And it's usually possible to benefit both ways, keep Max Freq low and grab all voltage drops and other savings, or raise it up and enjoy the extra power.
Morfic, would much rather see you over on the Sprint version, but glad to see you on the SGS III. Used to use your kernels on the Nexus S and they were the best around. Hopefully once you get everything settled in, we might see you branching to other carriers.
