AC Charger - Galaxy S III Accessories

Just bought an S3 without a charge and now I need to pick one up. Any suggestions for which one to get? OEM or aftermarket? Does the voltage matter or does the phone only allow 0.7A?

The transformer ( brick thing that plugs into the wall) has a Certain limit on the amount of amps that can run through it.
The more amps...more power. ... Faster charging.
I seen them go all the way up to 2 amps for car chargers.
90% sure the nexus 4 has a 1.2 amp limit in the stock wall charger.
I wouldn't recommend anything higher then 2 amps.
You might just be paying for false advertising or just have something dangerous.

I use several different ones
Personally I use the name branded ones but also have several chinese ones as well
Chinese 2.1amp I have several they seem to work
I would make sure to get at least a 1amp/1000ma cause they throttle, peak is actually 1amp so running flat out could be lower
I have several HTC branded chargers they work good (they are 1 amp) I see you sent your message from a Thunderbolt so I assume you have an HTC charger already

I use the charger from my htc incredible. GS3 charger and cable are still in the box. Htc charger works very well with the S3.

Yea I plan on using it for a while, but will probably end up selling the ThunderBolt. Probably just try and pick one up.

Anyone have any luck with the dual usb charging ports? Just got an android phone for work, so I was wanting to use only one charger (two cables obviously) to cut down on the stuff I have to carry around.

If it's a phone charger with Micro usb, it will have standard voltage.
Try to get a 2amp charger so that it has more than enough amps. Sometimes a 1amp charger will only feed .8amps or so. It's best to have more amps than needed especially for charging blocks that have dual usb output and if your charging 2 devices at the same time.
The S3 typically will draw as much as 1.13amps (during peak charge) with a wall charger that can provide that much. Certain Kernels and roms may cause this value to increase.

Battery general questions and doubts

Well I'm little confusing now .
I have 2 charges.
One with out 5v 2000mah
Two with out 5v 10000mah
I noticed by my self but I need to be sure, big cables delays charge?
Before new systems, like ics and others updates on HTC Systems.
I always charged my phones with 1A.
Now even with 2A charger, some times my phone does not charge. Including some times if I use phone while charging battery decreases.
Maybe it is happening cause of my big cables?
What Is the influence of cables on wall charges?
Roms got influencing the charge time?

Charging with 5v 2amp possible?

He Lo, yesterday I bought a Google Asus Nexus7 tablet, with it came a nice charger, with a double amperage compared wit type original HTC One X charger. I'm wondering, can I als use it to charge my OneX wit this charger without damaging my phone?
Thanks for your comments and advices.
Philip
Hi there,
Yes, you can. I have a 5v 2A charger I use in the car and it charges fine, it does take a little longer than the mains charger but otherwise it works great!
Dave
Don't you have any knowledge about electricity? You can charge even with 100A charger, it merely states how much current it's able to provide. Device controls the amount of current it draws.

Yes you can charge with it but you shouldn't, it can damage the device's charging components if the charger's voltage output not very stable(bad quality).
It can also heat up your charger and/or device.

Err... what? Are these Asus chargers known for bad quality or something?
It should be fine. It might take more time to charge, if the data pins are not connected to indicate a mains charger to One X.
yes you can !
I have similar charger for asus transformer and no problem with charging HOX .

That's somewhat harsh don't you think? What happened to the friendly helpful XDA community?!

Yep, my HOX charges just fine on the 2A charger that came with my N7. It doesn't charge any faster, but then I wouldn't expect it to - if the battery in the HOX were able to charge at a higher current, I'm sure HTC would have shipped it with a higher capacity charger!

Does he have to? What's that attitude?
minus the attitude, Presterin is correct.
You're right, sorry about the attitude. But this has been discussed multiple times even on One X forums, and it's getting annoying.

what's annoying is people using that excuse 'its been discussed already multiple times' as a justification for the way you responded.
If you ignore my first sentence, didn't I provide informative reply? This is pointless and off-topic.

Damaged charging port

Have any of you guys experienced the charging port on the bottom of the phone not working properly? Mine is not working reliably with numerous chargers. Was wondering if this may be a widespread issue or if it's just me
Only issue I had was that my phone would lock up using a SG3 charger so stopped using it.

I didn't charge last night and so I plugged mine in at work today with only 8% battery left. I checked it later and was down to 5%, my old Evo 3d charger didn't seem to do anything to it. I powered down, unplugged everything, removed battery and then reconnected and it finally started charging. It charges very slow at 1amp but it's charging now at least.

it really prefers the 2 amp charger... it's a phablet after all... try the stock or tablet chargers (with the stock cable) I bet they work wonders

+1 to this! I was having the same problem until I realized that the charger that comes with the phone is 2amp. As long as I charge with that or my touchpad charger, I am good to go.

I noticed that the port may be a little deeper than some cables allow for. I haven't had a chance to verify this, but you may want to check the cable you're using for a good fit.

The real problem is in the charger itself. I tried using an HTC charger and it was a no go. The stock charger is a 2 AMP version and that is the way to go. It actually charges quite quickly on the appropriate charger.

I've used Blackberry, HTC, Motorola chargers... all worked for me.
I've had my phone for about a week and I am also experiencing issues with the charger port. It happens randomly. I would connect the charger and it wouldn't charge but if I try again moments later, it will charge. I also experienced it go from charging to not charging, repeatedly. (My charger works fine, I tested it with other devices)

If it is not a 2amp charger, it is going to be an intermittent problem!
Using 4 different chargers on mine ranging from .5 amps to 2 amps. No problems charging.

Is it okay to charge GS3 with .7 amp AC charger?

Hello,
I picked up a Samsung oem charger from eBay and noticed it differs in output amps in comparison to the wall charger that came with the phone. The charger bundled with the phone is rated at 1 amp, but the one I just bought is rated at .7 amp.
Is it okay to charge the phone with the .7 amp charger? I'm afraid the phone will think it is 1 amp and miss calculate the charge of the battery. I don't know if this is something to worry about or not so I thought I'd ask. Thanks.
Phone: Galaxy S3 SGH-t999
ROM: CM10 Stable
Charger Model Numbers
1 amp = ETA0U61JBE
.7 amp = ETA0U60JBE
It should work just fine. May take slightly longer to charge though.

Will it really be that much longer in comparison to charging via USB? :cyclops:
Edit: USB via PC
Usb via pc is .5 amps
If it makes you feel any better I just received the OEM dock and it came with a 700mA charger not 1A. I agree that it won't charge as fast as a 1A charger but it shouldn't make that much of a difference.
It'll probably take 30% longer to fully charge with a .7 vs a 1amp

Quick charge mode and older ac-wall chargers
The store owner of where I bought my phone advised against using anything other than the charger that came with the phone. Mine is a Galaxy S4. Supposedly this came down from on high from Samsung. Supposedly, the phone does not differenciate between chargers and will try to pull max amperage when the wiring configuration matches a wall charger (looped data lines?).
For example, I have an old Galaxy S1 charger rated for 0.7 amps and my indicator app shows my phone pulling 1.9 amps through it when the cable is straight as can be. So far, I have not found this charger to become hot and there may be a possibilty of it catching fire since it is not designed for 2.1 amps that the phone is capable of pulling.
Someone I know used a car DC to USB adapter that was rated for under what the phone could pull and in short time the adapter itself either caught on fire or melted. Somewhere in between.
The phone will pull as much as it tests that the power chain can deliver and that is whether or not that power chain can safely deliver it. Proceed with caution.

[Q] Charge 2 SGSIII's at once?

I would like to get a charging cable that has 2 Male Micro USB connectors and 1 standard Male USB connector.
These are supposed to charge 2 cell phones through one USB charger, but I've read that you might need a higher capacity charger than comes with your single cable charger.
Will the standard USB charger that comes with our phone work, or will I need a higher capacity charger?
Thanks
Higher capacity. Need a higher mA charger. I would not recommend this. What would be the advantage? Why not just use 2 chargers

Thanks...saw them while browsing internet. Lots of people have them (per Amazon reviews), and most seem to like them. Cuts out a bit of cable clutter

I guess if you have a limited number of outlets it could just save an extra spot.
