[How-To] Port Your TW ROM to All Major US Carriers - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

This guide has already been used twice (and possibly four times) to break xda rules. I will not enable that.
Sorry everyone. Thread closed.

I have flashed ATT TW AND AOSP roms for my Tmobile out of the box and it works. I then change the build.prop with root explorer.

Going to give this a try this weekend. It's a dumb question but could I use this to say port a Sprint ROM to my AT&T phone ? Just a straight port over but just changing the things you list here ?

I can't say for sure, but it should work just fine.
Though I must admit, Sprint is the worst choice you could make for your first port attempt. You could have problems with both libs and kernels.
And I still haven't figured out how to get MMS working on my Sprint port.

I think Verizon would be a good choice.

Is there any way of porting anything from the international i9300 to the AT&T i747 using a similar method as found in the original post?
I understand the processor and radio differences.

There is going to be a lot more than is listed here for that... I doubt its really possible. Kind like you can't easily port a i777 ROM to a skyrocket

It will take much more than what is listed in the OP. I am not sure I have ever seen a ROM ported from Europe to the US (or the other way around).
As you mentioned, the processor and radios are different, but so are the system partitions. Anything is possible, but I think that would be a huge amount of work.
If you try this please be very careful. Many, many users have bricked their devices flashing a ROM from across the pond.

I wasn't going to try it. I had just wanted to get 4.1.2 without the AT&T bloatware and someone else's build that has additional features that I don't need.

Hey all, I was hoping to get some assistance on an issue that myself and stratatak7 have been having. We're trying to port the Intergalactic ROM over to VZW. Following this guide, I was able to get it to boot and everything is functional including calling and texts, but we cannot get any mobile data. We've gone as far as replacing the kernel with a vzw kernel and replacing the modules in Intergalactic with modules from a vzw rom but mobile data refuses to work. I would be grateful for any suggestions because it seems that we are at a loss. Thanks

OK, I apologize for having to ask this, but are you sure you followed all the steps correctly? I have to ask because my ROMs are the same version Intergalactic. Also, are you sure you grabbed the files from a VZW BLK3 ROM? Libs are the most important for data.
I have attached the files I use for my VZW port. I would change nothing except the ROM name in the build.prop for now and see how that goes. The eri.xml is compiled, so you can just add the file to framework-res with 7Zip. I started adding the csc files recently, but I don't think they really make a difference.

For your own personal use you should be able to get by with just changing your build.prop. Maybe the apn if you run in to any data problems. You should not need to flash a kernel or radio.

DONT WANT A BRICK? Check here

As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
Also wind mobile an Tmobile are interchangeable, just don't flash the modems.
ONLY FLASH THE ROMS IN THIS FORUM!

I second this, guys PLEASE don't risk it. It is not worth it. Right now I think most devs are working on their own ROMs, but we should have a patch soon to allow cross-compatibility.
think some peeps are confused by whats before tmo development. (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III) just my opinion but good idea on thread.
Mr Highway:
Could you start another thread for Windmobile Android Development?
In the past all Windmobile phones are just T-mobile phone rebadge.
In this case, it does not in terms of kernels....(and may be baseband)
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

and not in the Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 thread ?
I keep seeing posts about ROMs that can work on these variants of galaxy S3s. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the ROMs supposed to be specific to GSM or CDMA? When I flashed windows based roms on my touch pro II, that was one of the things to look out for. Is it possible to create a ROM for all carriers?

Yes and no.
With the use of aroma-installer, we could set it up to detect your phone type (well, not we....I don't know that much about it but I saw the thread discussing this) and aroma would be able to install the necessary files based on your phone.
As of now, for instance, mine works across all GSM carriers. clark44 is current working to get everything switched up so it also works for Sprint (mostly appears to be the apk files and XML files) that are specific to the phone. As of now, he has it booting and working fine except there is a large rush of FCs on initial bootup but then everything runs fine.
I wasn't even aware you could make a patch to allow cross-compatibility! XDA never fails to surprise
Just a thought, but maybe they could do it like the SlimROM on multiple devices. He has a common base ROM and another flashable for each device supported. It works out perfectly and multiple ROMs for multiple carriers.
I figure it will be easier than doing it for different devices since I read that all the US variants are essentially the same. Not sure but worth a look.

Will there ever be any SGH-T999V development?
Does anyone think that someone with a SGH-T999V Wind Mobile variant will ever be able to root their phone so they can overclock the cpu, etc?
Why not? I am using a custom rom and overclocked to 1890 at the moment.
Just use the windows way to root. I knbow it works
I have not tried the toolkit.
If you are going to flash a custom rom just make sure it does not contain the boot, modem and amss file in the rom that you are flashing.

What if you accidentally tried to flash i9300 rom and your phone is not turning on.

After doing some research it looks like I have to fix it through jtag.
I think I could do it, but you need some expensive jtag box that connects to the computer(It's called the Riff Box), but it would be cheaper if I just sent my phone into here it costs $60. Not ideal, but not a complete disaster either. Unless there is some other way to JTAG I am out of options.

Do not flash system dump
Hello, everyone.
DO NOT flash the Rogers System Dump, or any system dump for that matter.
It's simply a set of system files from a Rogers unit, which will help developers design a ROM around a Rogers base.
I sent my Rogers system dump to a few developers for this purpose. Hopefully, over the next few days, we'll have a new ROM with all the features of the Rogers ROM, and without the AT&T influence (they have a habit of ruining good features).
If you're looking for a stock Rogers ROM, you'll have to wait.

P.S. To anyone who knows the answer, what happens if I take an existing custom ROM, for example, the DIET ICS ROM, and overwrite the system files with my Rogers system dump, repack the ZIP file and then flash? Would this work? Would this then become a flashable stock Rogers ROM?
Although I'm quite experienced and familiar with rooting, flashing, etc., this is getting a bit beyond me.

go to your command prompt and type
"adb pull /system C:/sgs3/system.img"
C: is your C drive and sgs3 is a folder which you would have to create.
Takes about 15 - 20 minutes and i believe this is a system dump....
I am not sure how to do a modem dump... i guess it would be a folder in there which needs to be pulled.

Is it the modem or the ROM that allows LTE toggle on our Canadian I747M (compared to our AT&T neighbors) ? Based on my experience with modem flashing from Nexus S and i9100M, my download and upload speeds, and latency and overall connection stability were affected.
If this modem is flashable, I want to try using AT&T modem to see if I get better connection stability.

I cannot believe AT&T doesn't offer the option to disable LTE. I guess they are after increased data consumption, but at the expense of customer dissatisfaction due to worse battery life...come on! I guess we really don't have it as bad as we think with Rogers.

Flashing other device roms

So a friend of mine told me i could flash roms from other carriers is this true? He has the gs3 from t mobile but i don't want to flash a rom from t mobile if it could possibly brick or cause problems.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
He's wrong. Unless a ROM is ported, it runs a risk of being incompatible and could potentially brick your phone. Even then, a ported ROM may come with certain bugs &/or stability issues.
This is especially true for ROMS intended for the International GS3.
ROM - OdexedBlue
Baseband - LJ7
Kernel - Stock LI3

.Not true. May come with bugs but flashing roms for another US variant of the S3 is safe just make sure there are no modems in it. As long as its for a US Gs3 than its safe. Open the zip and if all you see is META-INF,system and boot.img you will be fine flashing it. Bugs can be expected tho and your screen orientation in landscape mode will probably be flipped. The part about the intl version is true tho. Dont flash those.

Not a good example as the note 2 has many differences and is alot harder to port(hence the instability). Theres alot to change like screen size, a different processor etc. This will at least run and data will probably work but its not guaranteed. It will not brick you though.

That's good to know. I knew about the baseband part already, but got the rest of my information from reading the sticky thread in Android Development about how not to brick your phone. I've flashed a tmo kernel (Morfic's Trinity) and experienced excellent results - right up until I tried taking ng a picture and discovered that the auto rotate was reversed and everything was upside down in landscape.

Baseband - LJ7
Kernel - Stock LI3

So if the auto rotation is backwards is there a way to fix that? Or is it something you would just have to deal with? I like some of the t mobile roms he uses but if its buggy i probably won't even bother. How can you tell if it is an international rom or us?

If there is a modem in the zip woukd it be safe to just remove it and flash a sprint modem after the initial rom flash or transfer a sprint modem into the zip file prior to a flash? Where would the "META INF" file be located to verify the flash would work?

META-INF is a folder at the base of the zip. If there is a modem you can remove it and replace with a sprint one to make it easier. You could also remove it but that might require a edit to the updater-script and that can be a pain in the ass if ur not real familiar with the process. If you choose to remove it then flashing another is not needed since itll be untouched. but as said probably easiest to just replace. I recommend 7zip if u need to do that

Warning!!! Don't flash non sprint roms

Many users here on the note 2 know me and use my roms or I have helped with their problems. A couple days a user posted in on of my rom threads that galaxynote2root.com has a guide on how to flash verizon roms on sprint device.
NEVER DO THIS!!!!
I ask for him to please remove the post and thought nothing else about it. Then I see a new user posted a need for help. He tried following the guide So now I am making a post to hopefully stop users from doing this. I have ported over a verizon rom already the S5-FEAT and please take it from me it is not as simple as changing the apns. While 98% of both devices are the same there is also a major difference.
All Sprint devices use a special partition called carrier that is located at mccblk0p16. This is the same location that ALL other note 2's use for their data partition. So if you flash any rom/kernel besides one for sprint you will have problems. First is that the install script will try to install to the wrong partition overwriting your carrier info. Then the install will fail due to lack of room. Now your stuck with a messed up device.
Now for those who just say "Well I can modify the install script" I warn you that it takes much more than that. As I stated I havce ported over one verizon rom so I know from experience that it is not a simple thing.
SO PLEASE NEVER TRY FLASHING ANY NON SPRINT ROM!!!!!

Well of course it is a port so is no longer a non sprint ROM. This thread was created because for a little bit galaxynote2root.com was stating you could use Verizon ROMs by only changing the APN.

Thank you, I will try that rom out. Is it stable enough to be a daily driver?
Yes it is.

[Q] Devices Names and Custom Roms

i have the sprint variant dubbed "SM-N910P" it has the SnapDragon chip in it. Does anyone know if all "Snapdragon" Roms in this thread will work on the Sprint Variant or should I be looking specifically for the "SM-910P" Roms?
Thanks
You need a ROM specific to the sprint version. There are only 3 stockish ROMs to date. I am hoping to work with the developer of the x-note to bring that to sprint. We'll see.

I inquired about the N4 Echoe Rom v2 and it will not work because of the lack of mobile data, not sure about any of the other roms.

Is it just the mobile data that is preventing it from working. Flashing according radios wouldn't help would it? Thank you both for the reply. No one wanted to answer
I had ported x-note and got data to work. There are a bunch if file you have to move over from a sprint working base. You have to edit the build.prop file as well. I never got MMS to work and prl and profile would not open.
