Probably going to get a Note 2 soon, coming from an S3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am running CM10 on my current S3. Can I export my SMS/MMS from the S3 to the Note 2 or will I loose them? Everything else on the phone is either in the cloud or a program that I need to re-install so it's not an issue. Thanks!

Pretty sure there is a app that backs up sms

I have titanium backup and I know that does, I just don't know if it restores to a different device correctly

Search for sms backup+
Backups to gmail account just like email.
But then again you are on cm10. That might make a difference.

Use sms backup+ for texts and as for apps and such drag your titanium backup file over and restore

It will work. Titanium backup. But besure to restore asap. It will disorient the order or wipe the newer stuff. I brought my stuff from my samsung infuse. The note 2 and s3 are damn near the same phone software wise. Especially if you go aosp to aosp.
You can cloud the titanium backup via dropbox. But its a bit weird. Id just save it to the sdcard and swap.

Good info, thanks. I'll probably go to the CleanROM once I get it. So not sure its aosp to aosp, but I'll still give it a shot.

Goback up works well too, it also backs up MMS and call logs

I'll take a look at this too. Seems like there are many tools to get the job done!

ive been using gosms for a while and it also does the sms backup work. has switched betwwen roms & devices and still keeping my 10,000+ sms without any issue

I run clean rom and love it. Clean stock is my gaem. Just wrote a bluetooth tether mod for it too.

SMS backup?

So I use this program to backup all my SMS and mms but it has a bunch of SMS I don't want. Does anyone know of a way to erase everything and then back up again?

You can look in the market for a file manager. I prefer Astro File Manager and its free. Kinda works like when you click "My computer" in windows, you can find the file that the messages are backed up in, delete them, then just backup your new ones to replace it.
Would you know where they are kept? Have root explorer and was looking for anything called SMS backup but didn't find anything. I looked on the SD card and in system/apps. Appreciate the help.

Generally the app will make a folder on the root of your sd card. I can't say specifically what it would be named, but look for any indications like the apps name. I can guarantee you though, that it will not be in system/apps because apps that have the backup functionality would not designate them to where they can be gone alone with the app if you uninstall.
What app are you using? Maybe I can replicate it and help you find it.
Its called SMS backup + and I believe it may cost a little money I could be wrong though. Again any help is appreciated thanks

From what I see... It may just be backing it up to your GMAIL account. I'm doing a backup now so I'll check for you.
Yeah I just figured it out it snycs to your gmail and if you open your lables you will see SMS. From there you can just delete all then redo it. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Restore all ur sms to ur phone.
Install go sms, and backup using that, its much simpler.

I'd have to disagree. SMS backup + is the easiest one I've ever used. My main reason? No files to keep since it all goes to gmail.
SD card goes bad no big deal where a you could lose your backups otherwise.
You can also restore certain SMS by using the star feature

You myst be rooted for this. Use titanium backup to backup everything to your sdcard on the old phone. Then put that card in the new phone and restore. DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM APPS OR DATA. That will only lead to major headache.

^^^like he said. Titanium backup. I have gone thru 6 phones in the last 2 years and always restore my games data with this app. Totally worth the price.

Seems like it could be quite useful. What about data? Will it retain data for apps, or just the app itself? And do you have the choice to retain data for certain apps or not?
Maybe you could create two zip files, one for just apps and another for apps+data...

Well, and yes this backups data, 12 of my 39 applications that required uninstalling and redownloading.
Depends on the the tool though. MyBackup Root still works beautifully for all data restoring needs.
This was such a better option though. I was excited. I wish there was an option for no data :/

i know what i said, i'm saying that in the MyBackup Pro App you backup/restore apps and if you want you can backup the data that the app contains, you can backup/restore regualr data like txt messages, system settings, MMS, contacts that are saved in the phone, call logs.

So, if I am understanding correctly what this app does, it will create a zip file of JUST your apps, and when flashed, will restore the backed up apps to /data/app
I use TB to backup my data, and HATE to restore any data for apps until AFTER I have fully tested the ROM with my apps and no data restores, so this would be awesome!
And yah, I know TB does this, but if this is a simple one click thing, would make it super easy for me, and the price couldn't be better

Very nice app and much needed.

The most efficient method for backing up playlists/apps?

I've used Wondershare MobileGo. Doesn't seem to back up the playlists on the music player application of choice. I need something that's going to restore my playlists on Google Music and Poweramp and put the specific tracks on those playlists back, as well as something that can restore all applications and SMS/Call logs to my phone after a wipe. I can't seem to find a good application that does all this (correctly) in one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Titanium will do sms and call logs as well but I've seen some people have issues. However, you can use "sms backup and restore" and "call log backup and restore" from the market. They work pretty well. I use them all the time.

[Q] best way to back up personel

before i take the red pill and flash the wicked rom, what is the best method to save personal data phone #,contacts, calendar appointments, email passwords, alarms, etc.?
the wicked rom says not to backup system apps, does that include app data?
thanks
Titanium Backup. You can restore app settings, say alarm clock settings, Temple Run accomplishments, etc.
I just export my contacts to my sd card and import back on a new rom. You can also link your contacts to a Google account.
I run Wicked, never had any issues at all.

Search your internal storage, it shouldn't of been deleted. Go through a file manager and if you can find it, go to titanium >preferences >and restore location.

yeah, you have to change backup location in titanium settings. In the S3, it uses your internal memory as an internal sdcard. That is where it saves all your personal junk by default. When you wipe though, it is possible to wipe without wiping that data, a factory reset should be enough. If you change in settings though, you would need to configure it to use your external sd card.
