[Q] Updated to 6.1.A.0.2.55 Can't get to root - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

I have just updated my Sony Xperia S from 6.1.A.0.2.45 to 6.1.A.0.2.55 via PC companion, after the update I wanted to root my phone again too allow some apps to have root access. As I went to check to see if my phone was rooted I noticed that it wasn't for my apps weren't allowed super user. I then attemted to root via Bin4ry like I did previously in version .45. It didn't work.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it has been resolved without having to unlock the bootloader / install a custom kernel, I don't want to do either of those, I just want root. Has anyone been able to root on .55 on Stock sony ICS firmware .55?

I've been reading around and they've said Bin4ry's root method hasn't yet been updated too root .55 firmware I guesss we'll have to wat :< I hope someone posts in this thread when it's released.

yup updated mine too. now i have to restart all mods,hahahaha..but the problem is the root, will try to unlock again then install custom kernel then stock kernel to gain root, then relocked again.

Simple, downgrade to .40 , root it, install CWM, download prerooted .55 system, flash via CWM , connect to flashtool, flash stock .55 ftf only kernel and baseband ...

Thanks a lot, it's not so simple but I will try! :fingers-crossed:

its looks hard, but its simple, Flash--root-cwm-flash via cwm- flash kernel and baseband... about 20mins...

the problem with flashing pre rooted system, is the change in region, ive unlocked then flash recovery nozomi then flash supersu, flash stock kernel.sin, flash cwm, then relocked and deodexed my firmware, and now im reinstalling all mods on my previous rom..hahahaha..cause dont want to change region .

So you think its better unlock BL ?

TrackID works after unlocking and relocking bootloader? I thougt it stops working because of loosing DRM-KEYS while unlocking a bootloader.

Download music info works again if you relock you BL, but TrackID (I think) and FB music likes via Walkman will not work anymore, so it's your decision if you want to lose that functions.

and lose your waranty... for this i rootet with my way...

[Q] Anyway to root 4.0.A[...] with locked BL?

I saw a few posts with solutions how to root newest FW (autoroot, root using recovery) but I don't have unlocked BL and I can't unlock it because my phone doesn't fastboot.
So is there a tricky way (I know how to use ADB so I won't have a problem with it if there's a solution using it) how to root newest fw for those with locked BL?
Please, don't offtop if you don't have nothing smart to say.

Yeah but what if we don't want to unlock the bootloader...flashing won't work cuz the update isn't OTA. What is this Recovery mode everyone is talking about?
I don't think you can flash a firmware through recovery AKA clockwork mod
To use recovery aka clock work mod you need to use fastboot to boot recovery play IMG, and flash a custom ROM like Dalvik2Cache

Only way to get root with locked bootloader is by ota if available.
With unlocked bootlaoder you can do by several ways, for example flash pre-rooted DoomLord's kernel.
Thanks for every reply. I don't need root for now, I just wanted to ask if it's possible
BTW newest FW is awesome

Yes you can simple re-flash to 2.3.2 root with gingerbreak and do an OTA update and you'll keep your root running 2.3.3 gingerbread rooted 4.0.A.2.368 R00i with locked bootloader...
You can use the new zergrush exploit, I heard that it works on 2.3.3

It aint a big deal...nothing would happen! More or less you won't be able to update! Relocking the boot loader would do the thing! But if you removed some bloatware then you might consider flashing the same firmware you are using again, wiping everything and then rooting it again! And then doing the OTA update!
Making an nandroid backup before reflashing the firmware is required so that you can restore your apps and settings! Many people ran into the problem where ota update wont work even with locked boot loader and they pin pointed removing some system apps or bloatware for it! Well in that case i already suggested you!
If i helped you, hit the thanks button!

Dude,
Most Xperia S custom roms for unlocked bootloader come with root and a custom kernel.
If you want to remove the root you would have to flash a stock rom using flashtool or relock the bootloader and then flash the stock rom using either PC companion or Seus.
To be honest I don't understand why your friend would want to run an unrooted custom Rom.
Hope this helps.

Xperia Play dont want to be rooted

so... this is my second problem today, the first one was with the FTS, but no its woking~
The problem is the Root. Yeah, the root...
I have tried to root my device using this and others FTS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935357&postcount=2
but dont know why, if i use, for example R800i_4.0.2.A.0.69_World.ftf or R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf, my device dont accept the root...
BUT, if i use :R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World and other lower version, he accept... anyone know what to do? i'm trying to use DoomLords root, tried every version... help, again!
EDIT: now that i have tihnk for a time... the stock rom that came with the xperia play, acepted the root, so, its 2.3.2? the only problem is that i dont remember some stuffs in the 2.3.2, so i thin it is only 2.3.3 that came with the xperia play whe i buy it...
Already solved the problem.
You can only root devices from 2.3.2 down...
The strange is that I tthink may xperia play came with 2.3.4 and I rooted it before it bricks in boot loop...

you can root 2.3.4 until version 58 (enhanced v3) with locked bootloader. just flash the ftf, boot, enable usb-debugging and mass storage device (instead of mtp at usb-connection) and root it via flashtool.
otherwise unlock your bootloader and install a superuser application in any rom you want. flash the latest firmware (.79), flash custom kernel, install supersu or superuser via cwm and you got the newest firmware rooted.

Towel root. Rooting won't erase anything from your phone
Towel works great but not if you've already upgraded to 4.4.4.
i upgraded to android 4.4.4 and i want to root my phone
how do i do that?

Is your bootloaded locked, or unlocked? For LOCKED bootloader, I used the following procedure multiple times with no problems (I don't see why it wouldn't work for unlocked bootloader, but I haven't tried it):
1. Flash .230 kernel using FlashTool (basically, you are temporarily downgrading your kernel).
2. Root your phone using newroot.
3. Flash either .283 or .292 kernel (whichever 4.4.4 build you are on) using FlashTool.
4. (optional) Flash a custom recovery (I use XZDualRecovery by [NUT]
You will need kernels to flash in steps #1 and #3 - either search for FTF files to download, or create FTFs yourself using XperiFirm checker/downloaded and FlashTool. The procedure for creating FTF is described in XperiFirm thread.
There may be other ways; I am only telling you what I tried myself, and know 100% that it works...

can i root without flashing a new rom? just a kernal

The way I understand it, the method I described should also work for unlocked BL.
Of course, you don't need to flash a new ROM -- just a kernel. That's exactly what I said... First, downgrade your existing kernel for rooting, and then, after the rooting is done, flash the proper kernel back.
I wanna root my phone , with locked bl. May I know which website to follow??
